Obama gets Time’s nod

No surprise that Time’s Person of the Year is Barack Obama, the incoming 44th president of the United States and the first African-American to hold the job. It’s difficult to think of a bigger newsmaker than Obama, with the possible exception of some nameless Wall Street crook. Time’s runners-up were Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Zhang Yimou, the filmmaker behind the Beijing Olympics’ amazing opening ceremonies. Apparently when Time asked for public nominations via YouTube, the biggest response came from supporters of Ron Paul. Maybe next year.
Any forecasts for 2009?

TIME magazine also reports, in other news, that the sun has routinely risen over the eastern horizon for near on a week now.

See how cutting edge we are?

Exactly 70 years ago, Hitler had the same recognition in Time.

Who cares what Time magazine thinks. They even fired the two conservatives that used to write for their magazine, Kristol and Krauthammer, so the magazine could carry on with their pure progressive liberal butt kissing.

Whether you like him or not I think that he deserves the title…Time does not ‘endorse’ the person of the year. Whom else GMC would you pick?

“…the first African-American to hold the job.”

I don’t think this is entirely correct.

Perhaps ‘person with the darkest skin ever to hold the job’ would be more accurate.

I was going to write first mulatto, but I think there are some Presidents before who actually have a small part African heritage (though they were white skinned and identified themselves and were identified by others as white.)

a little nugget on madoff’s niece.
“Madoff’s niece, Shana, was a compliance lawyer at his firm and last year married Eric Swanson, a former assistant director of compliance and examinations at the SEC. Swanson left the agency in August 2006 and is currently the general counsel of Bats Trading Inc., the third-largest U.S. equity exchange by trading volume.

    Hey Chaplain,
Obama whipped the Clinton machine, he whipped all the slime the Republican machine threw at him and was elected to the most powerful office in the world.

More than you’ve ever done in your sorry life.

I’m so old I remember way back when Time Magazine used the title, “Man of the Year.” That was way back when we didn’t see women or persons of unusual ethnicity running or bidding for higher public office. Those people weren’t exceptional newsmakers because the media just ignored them, as did everyone else. We’ve come along way.

She was Madoff’s compliance atty., who married the compliance attorney at the SEC (Where Madoff was considered like almost one of the agency), I see very little separation. Considering that madoff had two sons working for him, one might have suspected a little collusion.
