Not so fast, Sen. Franken

It used to seem so simple: Gain a U.S. Senate seat by election or appointment, then take that seat. No more. “Al Franken is falsely declaring victory based on an artificial lead created on the back of the double counting of ballots,” Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, who is chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, said Tuesday, reacting to Franken’s double-digit lead in the recount over incumbent Republican Norm Coleman. Cornyn added: “Minnesotans will not accept a recount in which some votes are counted twice, and I expect the Senate would have a problem seating a candidate who has not duly won an election.” Any bets on how long it will take to seat all three new senators from Minnesota, Illinois and New York?

Let’s just go with openness in government and put ‘em all up on Ebay.

“What Cornyn didn’t mention is that in January 2007, the House, then controlled by the Democrats, did provisionally seat Vern Buchanan (R) of Florida even though there was a lot of evidence that something was wrong (large number of undervotes in Democratic counties that used voting machines but not in other counties).”

    Great post, Linda–

That’s exactly what I was thinking too.

There was zero outrage when Bush won in Florida by not counting the votes at all.

BTW, CONs, say hello to the new SENATOR from Minnesota, the author of Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot and other observations.

BOTH of these guys only got about 42% – apparently a large number on MN residents did not like their choices.

    _________

    hehehe

Let’s see, democrats stealing a Senate seat in Minnesota; democrats selling a Senate seat in Illinois and a democrat trying to buy one in New York.

Who cares how long it takes? It’s great to watch no matter which democrat pant loads end up in Washington!

  8. Posted December 31, 2008 at 1:11 pm | Permalink

Well Hank – since there is no evidence of theft in MN that part means nothing. I agree with you on IL – for some reason the governors there have been bipartisanly corrupt over the years. That is why I with Blogo had gone for a ‘neutral’ as I noted. As for New York – I’m not a big Kennedy fan either.

I had been somewhat neutral on MN until I read Coulter’s rant. Now I want Franken to prevail.

I think the dems should seat the Il. appointee. So far there are only accusations against the gov., and since it’s his job to fill the vacancy he should. Unless there’s evidence/proof that the job has been sold.

Here’s a thought – let’s let the MN people handle their own recount – okay? If the winner is Franken – then so be it. If it is Coleman – then so be it.

But isn’t there some accusations of financial problems surrounding Coleman? Maybe Mr. Coleman should take care of this little matter before running off his mouth about Franken ’stealing’ the election.

Is stupidity passed by casual contact by left wing bloggers? No I’m serious. The Dems on this site remind me of school children. Your responses are so juvenile and unintelligent it is even beneath school yard arguments. Are there any intellectuals out there? Not in “hate world” which is where most of you reside. Al Franken actually is the perfect Democrat Senator. No intelligence (for real, not imagined like your claims about GWB), no intellect, no character. Just pure hatred. A man totally devoid of any morals.

It is reported that at the beginning of the French Revolution, a Street prostitute was brought into the National Assembly Hall. She was given a robe and a crown and proclaimed to be the Goddess of Liberty. An orgy then began with most of the distinguished Legislators of France partaking right on the floor of the Legislative Chambers. It is not hard to imagine a U.S. Senate populated with the likes of Al Frankin doing something similar.

I think you better get your facts straight p-momma. It is the entire Democrat caucus of the U.S. Senate that has said they will not seat anybody appointed by Blago.

As for New York, that too is a Democrat show with Democrats like Gary Ackerman leading the charge against Caroline Kennedy.

As to Minnesota, well until just recently, nobody imagined that even the Democrats would attempt to seat someone as tainted and who obviously did not win except by out and out fraud like Franken did. Even so, if the Democrats stick together, there is no way the Republicans can block it.

The people of Minnesota deserve better than an asshole like Al Franken
