Merry Christmas

Warm wishes to all you bloggers on this Christmas Day. Special blessings on all those who gave their time and money to area charities during this period of economic uncertainty. And comfort to those who are dealing with sickness, loss or who are separated from loved ones this holiday, particularly those with family members serving in the military overseas.
May this day be merry and bright.

    I guess my family and I are falling into the category above, my son in Iraq and sadly my mother-in-law is in the hospital awaiting surgery. The details are long and tiring but last month she was found to have cancer on the brain. It has been a worrisome time and on this day the family is there waiting for yet another test to try and just deal with a side effect. Mom is in good spirits but it has been that roller coaster ride that such things always are.

    I have been receiving text messages and the following is my seasons greetings in response:

    Merry Christmas to all, this will be a memorable Christmas though not for reason we would want.
    I would gladly trade all the lights, music and gift for only two wishes be granted by God.
    One is that he grants the Doctors the wisdom, skills and knowledge they will need to keep our mother, grandmother and friend with us.

    The second wish is that we make next Christmas a memorable Christmas too and one so memorable that is fades this Christmas’s memory. One where we have also gathers with family and friends like this Christmas day.
    One where we celebrate the gift we were given with the first wish being granted. Where we share the fellowship we share today but with the only thought being the gift that was given several thousand years ago to a weary world. And the fellowship that comes together in celebration.

    Merry Christmas
    Rick

    Merry Christmas!

    Our prayers are with you this morning, Dog! Nathaniel got home from Quantico yesterday after being gone most of the month so our Christmas is very happy. We know what it’s like to have a son in harms way at Christmas, it sucks.

    The Boy has to work today so we had our Christmas dinner and celebration yesterday. Joyce is Sicilian and we had and Italian meal. No one can fix one better!

    It looks like Santa Paws came for the dogs last night, it’s little Nikki’s first Christmas. A little extra hay and kibble for the horses and a pumpkin or two for the goats!

    So, Merry Christmas to all today! May the blessings and joy of the season be with you and yours!

    Hank

    Merry Christmas everyone!
    This is my favorite time of year for one reason…my kids and grandkids are all home with Dave and I for a brief time and I know they are all safe and sound under our roof. I guess we’re parents until the day we die.

    Writerdog,

    I pray for your sons safety in Iraq and I hope you both still have a Merry Christmas as well. God Bless your mother-in-law as well during her time of surgery and sickness.

    Merry Christmas and all other holiday celebrators!

    I did all the prep for the tiny family gathering last night for our noon feast today, so I get to sit and relax till a tad bit later. Normally we have multiple feasts. This year I’ve only had two. My son is with his grandparents and my daughter with her new…uh..in-laws kindof? So I’ve had a few nights of total peace and wow I feel so much more happy and relaxed. My home is clean, my oven full of good food and I don’t feel like I’m frazzled beyond belief. I do miss the kids today though, but it’s ok, they’ll be back lol.

    Spent one of THE most romantic evenings with the hubs in a long time last night. It was so long overdue. I should just start scheduling that sort of thing.

    It is so quiet today, all I hear is the bubbling of the fishtank. Normally my home is the hub of chaos.

    Tomorrow we’ll go to Wichita to pick up the son, enjoy time with the family there, and probably gain another two pounds. What’s two more?

    So anyway, ya’ll enjoy your day. I’m glad Nathan is home for you Hank. Dog, good luck.

    Writerdog, last year my son was over in the sand, so I understand and pray not only for his safety, but your peace of mind. THank you for his, and your, service.
    To all those with whom I have disagreed or argued with, and to those with whom I have agreed, may you have a very Merry CHristmas, and even if you don;t believe, may the spirit (non metaphysical) of the Holiday, peace and love, be with you.

    On this Christmas morning all seems so calm at our house. The kids were here last night with the exception of our middle son and his family who are in Virginia and couldn’t make it home and our oldest grandson who is in Iowa and didn’t have enough time off to make it home. He does have 3 feet of snow on the ground so will have a white Christmas without family. Fortunately he was adopted by a member of the staff where he attends school so he will be with family sort of.

    We adopted a family this year for Christmas. If you have never done this I will just say it is one of the most rewarding things you can do. The grandkids went shopping with us and we were able with some help from things we had in our home to get the two boys everything they had on their lists.

    Merry Christmas to all and to all wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year.

    Cosmos,

    I heard this coal industry joker on NPR trying to argue if we are in the process of working towards “clean coal”, then it is okay to call coal, “clean coal”. It was nearly as amusing as some of the Anti-AGW posts here.

    As my boss would say “language is a powerful thing”, but as I retorted “not so powerful as to conceal one’s true/evil motives.”

    [Only mentioning this on this thread, due to Cosmos' 11:34 a.m. post.]

    Thank you all the son is doing fine and said its boring for the most part. A lot of playing cards and watching videos. As to mother-in-law, as anyone whom has had a love one going through something like this. You will understand that today is the typical roller-coaster today. spent a good part of the day there today and they have known she had some internal bleeding but did not know where. Finally they found some ulcers in her small intestines and one was bleeding. The problem being to fight the swelling of the brain she takes steroids but they also cause the ulcers. Can not stop the steroids but the bleeding is also life threatening.
    She had lost nearly two/thirds of her blood and her blood pressure is running low.

    You know I believe in all sorts of bizarre things as I’ve seen some very unexplainable things. However, a miracle would be to cure that little girl, or to let her go.

    And lets face it, there are so many who need miracles. I don’t like the idea that only some get them and some dont.

    Christmas what a joke — we stopped celebrating Christmas and started celebrating retail about 5 decades ago —– see any commercials celebrating the birth of Christ? How many celebrating 50% discounts ? Even the Disney World Christmas Day parade is one big ad for Snow White and her seven pimps — no floats showing a manger —- Capitalisms fineat hour —- turning a religious holiday into a holiday for excess spending ….

    I got an interesting and very funny gift from one of my daughters. When I opened the package, I thought it was a copy of Goodnight, Moon. Instead, it’s Goodnight, Bush, a parody on GM. What a bedtime story!

    Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. I’m grateful it’s over for another year.

    VERY good post, Monkey… I appreciate your tenacity…

    I guess I still like to fit the “song” by Neale in with perhaps a poem of this sort:

    When the Song of the Angels is stilled;
    When the Star in the sky is gone;
    When the Magi and the shepherds have found their way home —

    THEN the work of Christmas is begun!!

    Too often, the only times many folks relate to Jesus, is when he is a helpless infant in a manger, or when he is the helpless victim of a vicious public execution on a Roman Cross…

    Too often, folks forget that Jesus stood up to Class distinctions; persecution of the downtrodden; and religious hypocrisy…

    Perhaps the “Wenceslas” song can be a reminder that those in power CAN reach out to the lowly and lonely, and encourage others to do likewise… Perhaps….

    “Chas” offers –

    “When the Song of the Angels is stilled;
    When the Star in the sky is gone;
    When the Magi and the shepherds have found their way home —

    THEN the work of Christmas is begun!!”

    Now THAT’S the work of a true preacher!

    Nicely done, “Chas.”

    We just got through a small family Christmas and were reminded frequently along the way of my late father and my sister’s husband who died just last summer.

    I’m pretty much a skeptic most of the time regarding “spiritual” phenomena. But remembering those two men, and the times we had with them… the laughs and their quirks and the wistful moments when you realize you didn’t realize how important those moments were when they were… Hell, I’ll take that as good enough for spiritual.

    The nights are getting shorter. The days are getting longer. That’s the reason for the season.

    But even for a lapsed agnostic such as I, the Jesus thing works for me, if sometimes merely as a metaphor.

    I don’t care about the parlor tricks — the walking on the water or turning water to wine or rising from the dead — what impresses me about the whole Jesus lesson is He represents what we could be if we lived lives as God’s emissaries on earth. Yeah, we have human frailties, but so did He! And he pissed off a lot of powerful people by standing up for righteous but unpopular causes and people.

    And He was crucified but (and I guess some people need the parlor trick of resurrection to be impressed) it was worth it in the long run.

    “So mote it be.”
