Layton wants to be manager after all

Robert Layton has finally decided that, yes, he wants to be Wichita’s city manager. The City Council offered Layton the job two weeks ago, but he couldn’t seem to make up his mind whether he still wanted it. His main concern seemed to be that three of the seven council members, including Mayor Carl Brewer, didn’t vote for Layton. But as Brewer has said, that divide was a reflection of the quality of the finalists for the job. Here’s hoping that Layton does well.

I bet the job is like being gov. of Alaska, except you know, you really have to make decisions and can’t be gallavating around the U.S. trying to further your political career.
In other words, anyone could do it.

    Yay!
Here’s hoping he doesn’t get run over by Cathy Holderman like is predecessor did.
Who knows? Maybe he’ll grow a pair and fire her and Rebenstorf.

The city law department works under the city manager and therefore supports staff. The county law department works for the commissioners. Having the city law department under the council would benefit us more.

Best of luck, Mr. Layton, and bring your sense of humor. Kansans are a lot like Iowans, but more Republican.

Not to change the subject, but, hey, whatever happened to Phil Gramm and his mental recession?

The Eagle desperately needs to get a new picture of Layton – one where he doesn’t look like a deer in the headlights.

Good question. Maybe Paul/Econ101/Franklin/TheShrillShill can tell us. After all, the economy is doing fine and those who say we are in a recession are idiots. Just like Nobel prize winner Friedman is an idiot.

Hey Ben, with all due respect, it was Paul Krugman who won the prize, not Friedman.

Did you see this? I didnt realize Bernanke was an MIT grad. Long read, and kinda wonky, but I found it interesting.

Economic policy wonk that I am…

Oops – thanks ksfg. But – he is still an idiot according to our missing economics expert.

I think I had seen before that Bernanke was an MIT guy. Unfortunately it is looking like he didn’t do a particularly great job.

Yeah, it looks like he came in with one tool, a hammer, so to speak, and now everything looks like a nail to him.

He’s not a hammering kinda guy, but you know what I mean. He had an untested idea he likes to defend, and he applies it to the problem, whether it fits that problem or not.

Sounds like a good and decent man who’s just not equipped to do the job.

He needs to go back to academia.
