High praise for Obama transition, but will it last?

The response to President-elect Barack Obama’s Cabinet choices remains very positive, with 83 percent of respondents in a Marist survey Wednesday saying they approved of his performance so far. Politico.com called the Cabinet “a middle-of-the-roader’s dream.” Even Bush guru Karl Rove has called Obama’s choices “reassuring.” Some perspective, though, can be gained with two flashbacks:
George W. Bush’s initial picks looked good, too, especially all-stars Colin Powell, Donald Rumsfeld and Christine Todd Whitman. (Though reflecting the contested election result, an Associated Press poll in January 2001 found that just 52 percent approved of his handling of the transition.)
In a Gallup poll in December 1992, 67 percent approved of Bill Clinton’s transition. Yet, as the Washington Post’s Chris Cillizza recalled, “most politicos believe that to be the most unorganized – and mismanaged – handover of power in recent memory.”

Rhonda, you are up early, as I suppose you are most days with so much to do keeping things at the Eagle running.

Pastor Rick Warren defends invite to inauguration
    Dec 21 03:29 AM US/Eastern
    By CHRISTINA HOAG
    Associated Press Writer

“LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) – Under fire for opposing gay marriage, influential evangelical pastor Rick Warren said Saturday that he loves Muslims, people of other religions, Republicans and Democrats, and he also loves “gays and straights.”
“You don’t have to see eye to eye to walk hand in hand,” said Warren.”

Sounds like a very good, if not perfect choice to give the invocation at the Obama inauguration.
What are all the gays so up in arms about, what do they expect from the president elect of a nation that so firmly believes marriage should remain between a man and a woman, just as it’s been for millenia.

“83 percent of respondents in a Marist survey Wednesday saying they approved of his performance so far.”

THIS means that he is reaching into the 28%ers.

The scum who still approve of bush.

I don’t WANT those people on board. I don’t want them happy. I want them frightened and backpedaling and given back some of what they’ve given.

No pass for Obama here. I warned about him. I hope I wasn’t as wrong as I am almost sure I was.

Many in the media are claiming it was Warren’s supporting of the ban on Gay marriage is the reason for the outrage. The true outrage is that he has stated that being Gay is equal to child molesting and incest. That is the issue with him . But to say it is only his opposing Gay marriage glosses over the real issue with him and an attempt to make those oppose to him as petite.

What a GREAT editorial in the Salina Journal this morning. Kind of applies to having ANY prayer said at the swearing in.

I am looking forward to January 20, 2009, as the beginning of a much better time for America and her citizens, in fact better for the entire world. bushco was / is a disaster for all of us and just to know he and his will be gone is worth celebrating. I can’t find anything about our country that isn’t in greater peril, greater disarray, worse off now, than when bush took office. He and his did great harm and NO GOOD!

It will take all the experts and talent Obama has chosen to surround himself with — an experienced and capable team. Everyone is needed, the challenges are great!

I’ve never known a person I agreed with on every subject or 100% of the time, and I don’t expect miracles. If Obama can maintain an even keel in these rough waters I will consider that a success! I do feel assured that our country and each of us will be better represented, our challenges in better hands, and our future safer and more prosperous.

In an interview in 2007, Whitman stated that Vice President Dick Cheney’s insistence on easing air pollution controls, not the personal reasons she cited at the time, led to her resignation.[33]“

Obama is putting people who believe in education in the department of education, people who believe in enforcing regulations in charge of the SEC, who believe in the environment in the department of the interior, who believe in helping the working man in charge of the department of labor.

Gee, no wonder the CONs are confused. Competent people doing their jobs . . . who knew?

It has been interesting watching the extreme vitriol spewed by groups like “American Family (sic) Association” and OneNewsNow about the Obama picks. I think the fact that Obama is choosing middle-of-the road professionals has them scared.

There are some disturbing stories about his EPA pick, and I don’t like having all the generals in national security positions.

But I am very impressed with his most of his picks in the area of science and the environment (though I wish he had picked Grijalva for Interior, and let us keep Napolitano–AZ Governor Brewer? Yikes!).

    Steady as she goes.

“I think the fact that Obama is choosing middle-of-the road professionals has them scared.”

Add the fact that he is telling Americans the truth about the ruined state of the economy and how serious the challenges are. It’s so refreshing to have honesty and to be acknowledged as adults capable of understanding. Moreover, bushco is still hiding what they can so no one will be completely aware until after January 20, 2009!

There’s still a month left for bushco to do further harm!

I love these bet-hedging threads that Rhonda starts–”Obama rational . . . for NOW . . . ” “Obama gets high marks, but when will he crumple like a crash dummy?”

How about just admit that anyone not Bush is a huge improvement.

Possibly part of the ’scare’ is that Obama will make adequate improvements to our state of the union during his first term to ensure being reelected. Further, if adequate improvements are made and Americans begin comparing how poorly Republicans govern, the Republican Party could be looking at a long time in exile.

Worst that can happen is Obama serves only one term. And as Capn noted, “anyone not Bush is a huge improvement.”

What is intersting is the “extreme vitriol” that is being said about the CONS by “fill-in-the-blank liberal website” that I read daily. It is full of “extreme vitriol”.

Of course, I like bth, can not manage to reproduce anything showing that what I claim is substantiated. However, is if fun to simply throw mud at organizations I disagree with even if it doesn’t stick.

RFL – I’m not sure just how but I have gotten on their email lists. It is interesting to read their daily emails. They seem especially fixated on anything that seems remotely ‘Muslim-like’ (Obama’s name) or relating to gay rights. They are now calling for an email assault on Campbell’s Soup company.
