Give it a rest on in-state tuition law

The new year apparently will bring another quixotic attempt to repeal the law allowing some qualifying children of illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition at state universities and colleges. Rep. Lance Kinzer (in photo), R-Olathe, and some other conservative lawmakers plan to take another charge at the 2004 law next session despite the fact that past efforts to repeal it have failed. Or that costly court challenges to the law have failed. Or that Gov. Kathleen Sebelius would veto any repeal that happened to make it out of the Legislature. Or that the state universities support the law. Or that law benefits the state’s economic development efforts. The only encouraging news is that Kinzer and others don’t plan to revive — at least not next year — this past session’s failed attempt to turn employers into immigration police.

Yeah, everybody knows how important it is to keep legal citizens who didn’t get here by way of the violation our laws at a disadvantage, particularly while the economy disintegrates and jobs are disappearing.

And God forbid we expect employers to help keep our nation safe. Just doesn’t appeal to you, eh Brownlee?

We’re talking about kids who’ve lived in Kansas most of their lives or were born here, and graduated from our High Schools. Some of them were homecoming queens. Heysoos.

Phil you just dont’ get it do you?

    Illegal = criminal.

Kansas has become the refuge for the criminals because bordering states HAVE enacted legislation, supported by the majority of voters to crack down on illegal immigrants.

But neither law nor democracy matter when your bleeding heart is beating.

And THINKS he is a blog monitor (self appointed).

But he is an idiot. All he has to do, is check with the editor of the WEBLOG on this.

Instead, he puts on his shiny armor and parades around as if on a white horse.

    I’m not Regular.

This whole issue has run out of steam. Once the sanctions against employers was take out of the equation there is little left but to go around and pick on the kids.

Liberal, Garden City and Dodge City (and parts of Kansas City) according to a story earlier this week are now at least or more than 50% minority. I see this when I visit my family in Liberal. It reminds me of the trips I took into Mexico when I lived in SW Arizona.
It is the result of the breaking of the meat-packing unions in Wichita and other cities when the meat companies moved to the boondocks and hired all the cheap Mexican and Asian labor (Vietnam was just over and the world was awash in Asian refugees) they could get who would work for any paycheck no matter how small.
Liberal was so thrilled they built a National Beef plant on the northeast side of town, which makes it easy to tell which way the wind is blowing by the stink.

Unintended consequences. Ain’t they a bitch?

Not that I would want to confuse anyone with the facts, but 80 percent of aliens with “illegal” status entered this country LEGALLY, but lost their status because the Feds didn’t process their paperwork in time.
Having ICE stop processing paperwork for 8 months because all the money in the budget was being used to build an invisible fence doesn’t help any.
I am trying to get someone into this great nation LEGALLY.
All you immigrationoids do is make the situation worse with your uninformed blathering.

You state “the children of illegal immigrants” in your liberal mush of an attempt at gathering sympathy for border jumpers. It is not the “children of illegal immigrants” that the laws are targeting, it is ILLEGAL ALIENS themselves that are the target. Yeah, that’s right…ILLEGAL ALIENS. Not only should illegal aliens be forced to leave, they should not be attending our colleges and certainly not receiving any in-state tuition breaks. Not only should they not be “in-state” they should not be in our country. Forget about comprehensive immigration reform, let’s get busy on comprehensive immigration enforcement.

With the current unemployment at around 6% (500,000 and more) on its way up, the issue of Amnesty is just a start. We will now be asking them to completely stop ALL immigration of any kind. There has not been a need for ANY immigration of any type for 40 years.

We have not been an agrarian nation for a long time.

E-Verify should be immediately instituted for all work sites , loans of all types and licenses etc.

Some of the punishments should be elevated to include the Death Penalty for hiring and transporting Illegal Aliens. Once some spank is put in the equation , things change.
