When members of the House GOP caucus recently rejected their leaders’ proposal to put a brief moratorium on members’ requests for earmarks, the special spending projects often referred to as “pork-barrel,” it was following the lead of Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, who had “offered an amendment to strip the requirement for an earmark moratorium,” reported CQ Politics, characterizing Tiahrt as a “staunch defender of earmarks.”

For someone who campaigns on smaller government and smaller taxes he sure does like to spend a lot of tax money on government programs.
True dat MP. Saying one thing and doing another just comes naturally to Mr. Pork. Kinda like saying one thing and doing another on term limits.
Hey, it’s the gop way!
My question is; why is anybody surprised? The GOP has made a fine record for spending these past 8 years. Republicans wring their hands about “tax and spend” Democrats. They’ve introduced us to a whole new era of borrow and spend. Let’s not forget that Republicans have roughly doubled the national debt in the past 8 years.
We need to get the pigs away from the trough.
Staunch defender of earmarks huh?
Yeah well very little good will that do him. Even less good will it do anyone in Kansas.
In the unified Democratic government, Tiahrt is a bench warmer and Kansas will be forgotten. Elections have consequences. Kansas chose not to be part of the future.
“Kansas chose not to be part of the future.”
It always does. That’s why it has no present AND no future. It’s been voting that way for, oh, almost 150 years.
How’s that worked out for the state?
hehehe. AHHAHAHAHHHAHAHAAHAH!
Actually, I should modify a bit.
MOSTLY Kansas chooses not to be part of the future.
By fighting and defeating the Holcomb coal plant expansion, Kansas actually set an important precedent.
For one shining moment, we were AHEAD of the future.
Tiahrt needs to literally realize which way the wind is blowing. Kansas CAN have an important role going forward.
Thing is, those earmarks are only called pork if they’re going to projects in other districts. If they’re to be spent in the 4th district, they’re called economic development. It’s politics and all the politicians do it. It’s called getting re-elected.
Yep. It’s like I’ve always said, “Tiahrt is the best Congress critter money can buy. Once Tiahrt is bought, he stays bought.”
BTW, what happened to all the wing-nuts on the WEBlog tonight?
Is ION having a “Truck Stop Women” Marathon on television tonight or something . . .
