Solar Wind Rips Up Martian Atmosphere
ScienceDaily (Nov. 23, 2008) — Researchers have found new evidence that the atmosphere of Mars is being stripped away by solar wind. It’s not a gently continuous erosion, but rather a ripping process in which chunks of Martian air detach themselves from the planet and tumble into deep space. This surprising mechanism could help solve a longstanding mystery about the Red Planet.
“It helps explain why Mars has so little air,” says David Brain of UC Berkeley, who presented the findings at the 2008 Huntsville Plasma Workshop on October 27th.
Billions of years ago, Mars had a lot more air than it does today. (Note: Martian “air” is primarily carbon dioxide, not the nitrogen-oxygen mix we breathe on Earth.) Ancient martian lake-beds and river channels tell the tale of a planet covered by abundant water and wrapped in an atmosphere thick enough to prevent that water from evaporating into space.

LOL well I will find I have more time this week than usual as for once again in less then a month the plant has had a week long shut-down due to slow sales and lack of commitments. After dealing with repeated attempts at contacting the unemployment office. I think maybe the real growth industry in this country is the processing unemployment claims.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Henry Marcum has nothing but kind words for the dog that shot his 23-year-old son this weekend.
Marcum says his son, Matthew, was standing in Tillamook Bay at the start of duck-hunting trip when his dog jumped into the boat, setting off a 12-gauge shotgun.
The blast blew a hole in the aluminum boat before hitting Marcum, who is recovering from injuries to his legs and buttocks at Portland’s Legacy Emanuel Hospital.
Henry Marcum says he’s not angry with the dog, and neither is his son.
The elder Marcum says the Labrador named Drake is a good dog and the shooting is “just one of those things.”

AlanB the stem cell thing was a no brainier, if you were finding money left over in your billfold at the end of the day. It still has value even though it is time to go to bed and you will have already paid for everything.
Does it make sense to burn it? No if there is a benefit from the end result of abortion then why not use it.
As is these children’s lives have been ended, at least through their deaths their existence could have meaning if it will cure deadly illnesses. As cold and unfeeling as that sounds, it is no more cold or unfeeling a thought than their ending is to be placed in a furnace and burn to ash.
I have not seen where Obama is expanding abortion, what words is being taken as him doing this?
I would rather he take the time to look at the problems with the economy and come up with a sound action.
So far the only one giving a snap answer is to extend the credit of those companies whom are failing because of them reaching their credit limits through bad practices. Gee that a sound solution huh?

Deb that is something that has always befuddled me about pro-life and the whole issue of stem cell research.
There is such moral outrage about the using of these embryos for medical research to cure illnesses and genetic abnormalities.
Yet where is that moral outrage about their fate when they are thrown into a furnace like so much garbage and burnt like the unwanted leaves in the yard? Where are those demanding that they be given a decent Christian burial? I have yet to hear a self righteous Congressman or Senator pronouncing on the floor the outrage and demanding a law be pass to give these children a human burial!

It isn’t necessarily just the use of the human embryos in research WD. Suppose that science finds a cure that only embryonic stem cells can effect. (Unlikely because it is becoming increasingly clear that embryonic stem cells from human embryos are not necessary to effect the promise of stem cell research) But let’s just suppose. Then what? The demand for embryonic stem cells would go through the roof. Are we then talking the chilling prospect of embryo farms? Where embryos are created so that the born can feed upon them?

Have you never read comments by pro-lifers who have stood outside Tiller’s abortion mill and had the ash of the aborted landing on them? They are sickened, outraged, grieved about the whole situation (woman and child).
Outlander I am not up on the latest count of abortions in America. But the number I heard and it may have been for pure shock value. But it was a million, at least far more than we as a people could care for if allowed to be born.
The prospect of what you mention sounds more out of science fiction then reality though we may reach that point as it does in a cold unemotional aspect makes sense.
But as has been explained to me the reason for the desire to use embryonic stem cells over adult stem cells is that adult stem cells is a one shot deal. where embryonic can be use many times. I do not know other then that the differences but I approach it from the opinion I express in an above post. These embryos are being just burnt and destroyed, if there is a value and something about them that could improve the livings health and well-being. Would it not be better that their end meant something other then a puff of smoke?

Yes I have read them and yes the mere thought of being covered by the ash does sound sickening.
But I find that different than how stem cell research has been opposed and the burning of the embryos.
Granted that much of what the elected officials is saying is playing to the base and is not something they really care about. The only exception is Brownback I find him genuine in his stance and I do applaud him for standing strong in his beliefs.
When talking about the subject of abortion I do not mince words it is the ending of a human life. Let to nature more often then not a human child is born and a human life is established. But on the subject of stem cell research it is no long a discussion of human life as that life has ended.

What type of person is it that can kill a defenses unborn child? I have held many a new born baby. There is no way that I could do any harm to them just because they have not yet exited the birth canal. They still feel pain. Especially horrendous is partial birth abortion. Just how cruel can one be? To me, anyone that can kill an unborn after it has reached the development stage where it can feel pain has to be one sick person. If there is a God there has to be a special place in hell for the late term abortion providers and their staff. Even if I were an atheist, I could not kill a defenseless unborn baby.

If you do, then using the remains of an unborn child to experiment on is highly inappropriate and may very well lead to it being profitable for the destruction of the unborn to take place.
Imagine making the argument that we should go ahead and exeriment on the dead bodies of the Jews which Hitler had killed, well, because they were dead.
Could you imagine the outcry? It would almost legitimize or lend a kind of condoning of the actions of Hitler in killing the Jews.
The argument made by those in favor of experimenting on the dead unborn child is just the same. Ignore the circumstances around why the unborn is dead, just let us experiment on them because they are dead.
As I said, if you don’t think the unborn child is a human life worth protecting, then it doesn’t really matter. Just as Hitler and others in his regime didn’t think that the Jews were worth protecting.
Now, I am not equating the unborn child to a Jew during the Holocaust, merely comparing the two situations to provide you an example of how those who believe the unborn child is a human life worth protecting see the situation.
We don’t want to condone the killing of the unborn and legitimize it by saying that it is profitable and ok to experiment on the dead bodies.

Mary is a friend and a neighbor. We live in a very unique and rather eclectic community. We have a lot of hard working folks and Mary is one of the hardest working in the neighborhood.
I drive by her house twice a day on my way to take care of the goats, horses and ducks. Usually around 7am and 7pm. Many times Mary is at work at both times. She also works most weekends.
I have a list of various things you can give her crap about, her irrational fear of guns, her ridiulous support of a one payer national health care system, the fact that she insists on having cats as pets instead of dogs and of course the fact that she puts absolutely no thought into her selection of national political candidates . . . typical liberal democrat.
But you can’t give her crap about work. She is a hard worker, good neighbor and a good friend.

Nathan I do not dispute whether a fetus or for that matter a human embryo is human life.
On this we will whole heartily agree partial birth abortion is murder once a child and yes by the third trimester it is a child. At that point the only decision to abort is the hard choice between the life of the mother or the child. Or that the child is so malformed that its life would be a living hell. For any other reason is the wrong decision and to be honest I do not see if the pregnancy has reach that point that the child would survive outside the womb. That anyone would choose to abort for the same reason as within the first trimester.
But this is a different issue than stem cell research and the disposal of the aborted embryo. I can see some would object if the call was to give the embryo a funeral/ burial on the issue of it would than cloud the issue of whether a embryo is a human being. But I would support the move to give the embryo the proper resting place. As I said it is a human being and yes that confuses the claim that I am pro-choice.
My reasons are very complicated and lengthy and I will admit they are unemotional but pure logic.
I have address them before and if anyone wishes to know I will explain them but only if they are truly interested.
As a Marine you are willing to die for your country agreed? But you do not want to die also agreed?
But if the cause is meaningful and your death is in the defense of the country you love. Your death has meaning and the scarifies is not in vain. So to these embryos are being killed for reasons that is in disputed.
But they are being killed and there is little comfort or immediate meaning to it. Their deaths are for the common good though that is hard. But to then deny their deaths having any meaning other then they are for a public good in the long run. And simple burn them as I compared the leaves in the yard is also as wrong and without logic or reason.
Abortion is the symptom and not the illness, it is preventable too but will take a major change in human nature.

If you were an atheist, you would not believe that the fetus was alive until it was born. Thus abortion would not be killing “a defenseless unborn baby” it would be akin to removing a growing lump of cells.

He is doing about as well as can be expected. Trite expression, but I don’t have better words. He is with his two daughters.
He said he’ll be around as time and circumstances allow.
This is one of those times when we realize most that no man is an island and we really do need one another.
Thank you for sharing that sad news with us linda.
Times like that are always tough, but can be especially so during the holidays.

Jessica Mae Betts, 19, was arrested Thursday in connection with the death of her newborn girl found in a Turlock, CA garbage bin on November 8, the tiny body still warm. Betts is charged with first-degree murder. In light of the legal safe infant surrender location a mile and a half from the garbage bin, there would be no reason for leniency in sentencing.

Berwick, PA police are investigating the abandonment of a newborn girl in a plastic shopping bag left outside a house Saturday morning, covered in blood. Fortunately, emergency treatment was summoned for the infant only a few minutes after the illegal and cruel abandonment, as outdoor temperatures in the teens would have likely soon caused death by exposure without a quick rescue. The girl, whose fingers were blue with cold when rescued, was taken by ambulance to Berwick Hospital and then flown to Geisinger Medical Center near Danville.

All I can say is I lost someone who was really dear to me due to cancer. I know something about what you are going through and I know how bad it hurts.
Every Human life is precious. Every individual has the unique capacity to add much joy to the lives of those around them. It is a joy to be loved and it is a joy to love. The more we miss them when they are gone, the more we can look back and be thankful that we were blessed to have had them in our life to begin with.

Early last summer I was called upon to give the eulogy for my brother-in-law. And the damnedest thing it wasn’t a sad speech, because there were so many moments of his life that delighted all those who knew him.
Somewhere along the line you get past what you have lost and realize what it was you were given.
I’ve observed couples over the years and the best of them always secretly hope the other one dies first, because they don’t want to be left alone.
That turns out to be one helluva gift.
A gift that will long outlive the loss.
Still, I’m sad for your loss.
But the next thought in my mind is to rejoice in the gifts she gave you.

giving you guys a hard time is how I wake up in the morning and prepare for my day, it’s sort of taken the place of my morning paper and it’s how I often unwind at the end of the day.
I hope you get back to work soon, too.

Yesterday’s Washington Post Magazine had a feature about a “pro-choice” medical student, Lesley Wojick, deciding whether to become a professional abortionist. Even with Roe v. Wade giving legal protection for “abortion rights,” the number of doctors willing to perform the procedure has been declining. And no wonder. The article describes in graphic terms how the young student was introduced to abortion techniques-beginning with practice abortions on a papaya, a fruit roughly the size and shape of a woman’s uterus. When Wojick observed an actual abortion, “[t]he patient was in obvious pain. Her screams gave Lesley the chills, and she thought she might throw up.” When one woman sought an abortion at 20 weeks, Wojick realized that on her neonatal rotation “she had tried to keep similar-sized babies alive.” In the end, Wojick decides, “Vacuuming out a uterus and counting the parts of the fetus did not seem like a desirable way to spend her work days.” Pro-abortion groups would like to force medical schools to teach abortion and ob-gyn students to learn how to perform them. Fortunately, regulations that will soon be issued by the Bush administration should reinforce the freedom of conscience of medical students and doctors, even the pro-choice ones, like Lesley Wojick, who simply can’t stomach performing abortions.

At some point every OBGYN will come across a woman who really does need an abortion, and he/she should know how to perform it. We deal with nasty things all day long, things we don’t want to do. But we do it anyway, because its for the good of the person.

No, if the doctor feels that performing an abortion is against his values, he can refer. Most OBGYNs don’t do abortions, they simply refer women to the abortion clinic where Tiller will happily do it. Doctors who believe abortion is taking a life won’t be convinced to do it for the “good of the person”. there are other options available. Me? I’d give up my nursing license before I’d participate in an abortion…thankfully I’d never have to make THAT choice…isn’t that what “pro choice” is all about?

General anesthesia is an option but it is more rarely given, you uninformed dope. Most are given local anesthesia for first and second trimester death procedures.
