Global Warming Is Good
Here’s another way of looking at things: global warming is good. And if there’s any bad news at all about global warming, it’s that it might be about over. The debate about global warming will go on forever. But while we may spend the rest of eternity trying to figure out where our weather is headed, one of the best ways of finding out where we’re going is to simply look at where we came from.
When you look back across thousands of years of weather, climate and climate change, many stories are told. Some of these deal with the end of civilizations. Others with the migration of entire nations. But whether it’s good or bad, they all deal with man’s reaction to his environment. Or they’re a consequence of it.
Some years ago I stumbled onto Charles Perry with the US Geological Survey in Lawrence KS when I was trying to track down some information on climate. In the scientific community, Charles has established himself as a firm believer that the harmonic cycles of solar output have huge cause-and-effect relationships with not only our short-term weather but also our long-term climate. In his work, Charles has connected events in world history with climate fluctuations-and has correlated those fluctuations with increases or decreases in the amount of total radiant energy reaching the earth.
In brief, there’s nothing really constant about the amount of energy being emitted by the sun. It’s almost like the sun has a heartbeat-with waves of energy coming in on a roughly 11-year sunspot cycle. Those short-term cycles then make up larger and longer-term cycles. And in those cycles, which have been going on for thousands and thousands of years, Charles has documented alternating periods of warming and cooling.
While global warming has gotten a lot of bad press today, Charles feels events in history show warmer climates have been accompanied by more rain, longer growing seasons, more crops and more land to settle on-times in which civilizations have prospered. Contrasting that are periods of global cooling-times in which human populations probably declined because of cold, drought and war.
As mentioned, Charles has correlated those alternating periods with events in history. For instance, there was a warming period from 33,000 to 26,000 years ago which may have allowed the Cro-Magnon Man to migrate northward and populate Europe by blending in with or eradicating the resident Neanderthals.
Another warm period ushered in the Bronze Age,which began about 3800 years ago. During this favorable climatic period, people migrated northward into Scandinavia and reclaimed farmland with growing seasons that were at that time probably the longest in more than 2000 years.
The great empires of the Bronze Age came to an end with the Centuries of Darkness chill, but warming returned during the Greco-Roman Age. During this period, philosophy made its first important advances with the thoughts of Aristotle. However, when the climate cooled again, the Roman Empire ceased.
A flourishing Viking culture in Greenland met the same fate during the Little Ice Age, which ran from about l280 to l860. The little ice ages are cooler periods, which last several centuries. They occur about every l300 years.
By the year l000, the Vikings had discovered Greenland, where their settlements started producing wheat and livestock. But after l200, the climate began to cool rapidly. The frozen harbors of Greenland failed to open in the summer-thus, trade with Europe dropped off sharply. By l400, Europe’s contact with Greenland had been lost. A slight warm-up about l500 allowed ships to make it back to Greenland, but by then the stranded Viking population had starved to death-with their graves becoming shallower and shallower as the permafrost returned.
Many today say our current global warming is because of increased carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Charles disagrees. He says while we do have global warming, it’s still not to the same level as when the Vikings were farming in Greenland. “Therefore, the magnitude o f the modern temperature increase being caused solely by an increase in carbon dioxide appears questionable.” On the other hand, solar output variations to climate change may be significant.
So what does all this mean? Let’s assume that Charles is right. If so, his projections show the current warm period may be ending and that the earth’s climate may cool to conditions similar to the Little Ice Age between the years of 2400 and 2900 following a slight cooling between 2000 and 2l00. Between 2l00 and 2400, cooling picks up steam.
But as you’d guess, time doesn’t stop there. And neither does the weather. Charles further predicts that l500 years from now, the climate will again become much warmer, entering altithermal conditions on a global scale-similar to Bronze Age weather. He also predicts the weather then may be warm enough to possibly melt the polar icecaps and flood the world’s coastlines. “There is evidence this happened during the last interglacial period when sea levels were 3 to 5 meters above present sea levels.”
But don’t worry about the ice caps. They’ll be back, further on out when we cycle back into another full-blown Ice Age. And finally, your words of wisdom for the day come from Dean Bark, former Kansas State University climatologist, when asked if he thought global warming were real: “We’ll know l00 years from now.”

A Note for those who would boycott Target because they did not allow Bell Ringers in front of their stores… here’s the “rest of the story”.

Target Donates $1 Million to The Salvation Army to Revitalize Educational Facilities Across the CountryAll Forty Divisions to Receive $25,000 Grant to Provide Kids with Educational Resources
MINNEAPOLIS (November 12, 2008) –Target today announces a $1 million donation to The Salvation Army to revitalize the organization’s libraries, media centers and educational facilities across the country. The retailer announces its commitment, which includes $25,000 grants to all forty divisions*, at the unveiling of The Salvation Army Bushwick Community Center’s newly transformed library. The introduction of the Center’s updated library will serve as the kick-off of forty more library, educational and after-school facility renovations to take place throughout next year.
Chris and Malaak Rock, along with Target, will host more than 250 Brooklyn children and staff from The Salvation Army Bushwick Community Center to celebrate the announcement, as well as the opening of the Center’s revitalized library, which features new books, furniture, shelving, and carpet, all made possible by a 2007 Target grant. The library also includes donated Dell (PRODUCT) RED computers and design elements by AARRIS Architects, LLP. As a child, Chris Rock attended The Salvation Army Bushwick Community Center after-school program and summer camp and continues to be involved with and show his appreciation to the Center year after year. Said Malaak and Chris Rock, “We are so thankful for Target’s continuing support of The Salvation Army Bushwick Community Center, but we are even more proud to help announce Target’s generous and important grant which will bring needed educational services to young people across our country.”
“We’re proud to expand our ongoing partnership with The Salvation Army to help update library, educational and after-school facilities throughout the country, providing children with an inspiring place to read, learn and most importantly, grow,” said Laysha Ward, president, community relations, Target. “Children are the heart and soul of our communities and we want to ensure they have the valuable educational resources they need to be successful at school and in life.”
Each of the forty divisions will choose one library, media center or educational facility to receive the $25,000 grant for design elements, furniture, shelving, books, computers and carpet. The selection will be based on compelling need for improvement, potential to increase community use of the renovated space and long-term ability to sustain the space. Decisions will be made in February 2009, with the upgrades being completed by the end of the year.
“Target is helping us provide people with the tools to become self-sufficient adults and to fend off homelessness and poverty, which we feel starts with education and community at an early age,” said Major George Hood, national community relations secretary, The Salvation Army. “Target’s commitment is truly synonymous to ours – to help create safe and healthy environments for families, and increase educational resources for our children – and we’re happy to continue to grow our partnership.”
Target and The Salvation Army have a long-standing partnership, working hand-in-hand throughout the year to help families who need it most. The partnership includes grants to local chapters, volunteer hours and in-kind donations, totally $2.4 million in 2008. In addition, Target works with The Salvation Army to support the organization’s disaster relief efforts in local communities by providing grants, pre-positioned products and the Family Preparedness Guide. Target’s partnership also extends into the holiday season. Since 2006, Target has donated more than $1 million annually to support the organization’s local chapters during the holidays and throughout the year. In addition, for the past three years Target has created an exclusive holiday product collection where a portion of the purchase price is donated directly to The Salvation Army.<<<
Doesn’t change the fact that the Salvation Army discriminates.
I vote for “the scream” to represent all open threads.
It is certainly fitting.
And just how does the SA discriminate? They have the lowest administration cost of any charitable group in existence, they work quietly behind the scenes while other groups go for the headlines. The SA has been working tirelessly everywhere they go, regardless of color, religion, gender, national origin or anything else of the recipients.
How can you claim discrimination? What do you base that on?
The Mission Statement of the Salvation Army USA
The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

its a ruse in order to preach.
is preaching discriminatory? And its mission statement clearly says “without discrimination”
Where does it discriminate? Is praying for someone while giving them blankets/food discriminatory? Do people have to accept the beliefs of the SA to be helped? Not that I have ever seen, and I have seen the SA in action in many different states for many different disasters.
What do you base your claim of discrimination on? Any proof/evidence/facts?
The world has never seen such freezing heat
A surreal scientific blunder last week raised a huge question mark about the temperature records that underpin the worldwide alarm over global warming. On Monday, Nasa’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), which is run by Al Gore’s chief scientific ally, Dr James Hansen, and is one of four bodies responsible for monitoring global temperatures, announced that last month was the hottest October on record.
Yet last week’s latest episode is far from the first time Dr Hansen’s methodology has been called in question. In 2007 he was forced by Mr Watts and Mr McIntyre to revise his published figures for US surface temperatures, to show that the hottest decade of the 20th century was not the 1990s, as he had claimed, but the 1930s.
Another of his close allies is Dr Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the IPCC, who recently startled a university audience in Australia by claiming that global temperatures have recently been rising “very much faster” than ever, in front of a graph showing them rising sharply in the past decade. In fact, as many of his audience were aware, they have not been rising in recent years and since 2007 have dropped.

Raptor, Are you so blind that you can not see that anything that has to do with religion is according to some is bad. Never mind the lives they have changed. Religion is bad. The Union Rescue Mission is Bad. Never mind that many have gotten their live in order because of these groups. They are bad because of who they are.
KFG, has the civil war started yet?
I’m getting antsy….
Ahhhh..got it, RA, thanks for the reminder. I couldn’t help but think of the work I saw them doing in Punta Gorda immediately after Hurricane Charlie devastated that area. The SA was providing blankets, coffee, food and clothing to anyone who needed it. They were feeding the first responders as well as the homeowners/victims.

Yes, let’s kill them - lead them to the lion pits, off with their heads!
Off course, I might lose a few cousins that way, but hey - you know all those “goody two shoe” Christians doing the Lord’s work is just not tolerable!
Raptor, can you not see that “its (sic) a ruse in order to preach” God’s second greatest commandment. You do know the two greatest commandments do you not?

The perfect home defense weapon: A Cougar
AP-
Teen Girl Hospitalized After Surviving Cougar Attack
MIAMI — A 16-year-old girl was mauled by a cougar — but survived — when a neighbor saved her from the animal’s cage at a northwest Miami home.
A Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokesman says the girl sustained some significant wounds Saturday and she was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Miami-Dade police say 21-year-old Anthony Zitnick, a friend of the girl, illegally entered the wildlife collector’s home with the girl and was later arrested. Inside, the 150-pound male cougar, named Chaos, pounced on the girl and clenched his jaws around her head.
Authorities say neighbor Richard Miralles heard screams and wrestled the animal away. Wildlife officials say the owner of the home has legal permits to keep two cougars and several snakes, tortoises and alligators.
Um, yeah.
Let’s bail out the automakers because the bank bailout worked so well.
Credit is still frozen and now this?
Sure. Let’s bail out detroit and “save” their jobs. Just like the first bailout “saved” these jobs.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081117/ap_on_bi_ge/citigroup_jobs
Congress needs to take back any of the first bailout money that hasnt been spent, and look into getting the rest of it back that HAS been spent.
Then they can study this as a lesson learned on socialism and BELIEVING what that pos bush and paulson say.

Just how many times CAN lucy pull the football away from charlie brown?
If it is bushco as lucy and the democrats in congress, apparently, there is no LIMIT to the number of times.
A very sophisticated robbery. Sophisticated, but a heist non the less.
Who was it that said “the man with the briefcase will rob you as surely as the man with the gun”?
Cougars kill people so guns don’t have to.
Hank,
Can a guy get a conceal/carry permit for a cougar?
I want one.
May I be the first to add Mark Holick to the (un)holy trio of Fred Phelps, Joe Wright and Terry Fox? I guess instead of a trinity of fools, we have four of a kind.

Mary,
I think you are thinking of Woodie Guthrie’s The Ballad of Pretty Boy Floyd:
“Through this world I’ve rambled.
I’ve seem many funny men,
Some men will rob you with a six-gun,
Some with a fountain pen.”

Darn! I agree with Farm Girl!@#$
The initial 700 billion was to pay off the rich bankers and financial mortgage institutions which supported both democrats and republicans.
This latest venture: To provide 50 billion dollars to cover the big three automakers “operating costs” is a payoff to the union for their support of the democrats.
(NOTE: This is NOT a loan to be paid back. It might include Congress buying stock in the big 3. Stock which will be worthless after the companies/unions spend it.)
We don’t need a manufacturing economy, we’ve got the ’service economy’! Too bad Citi group is cutting 50,000 heads, guess they’ll have to join the ranks of the insurance salesmen industry.
Murdoch to media: You dug yourself a huge hole
http://news.cnet.com/8301-10787_3-10098194-60.html
“With newspapers cutting back and predictions of even worse times ahead, Rupert Murdoch said the profession may still have a bright future if it can shake free of reporters and editors who he said have forfeited the trust and loyalty of their readers.
“My summary of the way some of the established media has responded to the internet is this: it’s not newspapers that might become obsolete. It’s some of the editors, reporters, and proprietors who are forgetting a newspaper’s most precious asset: the bond with its readers,” said Murdoch, the chairman and chief executive officer of News Corp. He made his remarks as part of a lecture series sponsored by the Australian Broadcast Corporation. “
Of course: Congress HELPED the big three fail. As did past and present presidents.
How?
By sucking up to labor/big business and creating WORTHLESS CAFE MPG standards. Started in the 70’s, and the big 3 have been paying off Congress and presidents for decades to NOT enact TOUGH EPA/MPG standards.
So what happened? The big 3 continued to build big gas guzzling cars. Meanwhile, Honda, Toyota and others began selling hybrids and economic cars (not to mention MORE reliable).
So who is to blame for the big 3 going broke?
Yep. You got it, whenever government gets involved in business, it’s a disaster.
That was refreshing to watch Obama on 60 min. giving reasoned and intelligent answers during the interview. Such a change from having to cringe every time 43 opens his mouth.
No, it’s Don Henley’s “Gimmie What You Got”

I bet you make a lot of infomercial purchases.
With the price of oil getting back to more reasonable levels, I predict the urgency of developing alternative energy sources will once again be relegated to the back burner, on simmer.
Until the dems get the economy flourishing again, and the oil companies and mid-east once again start the gouging.
Remember this?
Renewable Fuels, Consumer Protection, and Energy Efficiency Act of 2007
The Corporate Average Fuel Economy, or CAFE, standards are increased to a fleet-wide average of 35 miles per gallon by 2020.
That’s a fleet AVERAGE. Not every car. As I posted many times before: Congress set standards LOWER than exist today (Honda/Toyota/others).
Gave the big 3 thirteen years to have their average car have 35 MPG.
Worried about Global warming?
Pollution?
Saving oil?
Nope the Dems’ and Repubs’ patted themselves on the back as they had Bush sign this one.
And the Big 3 threw them ALL a party in thanks.

No doubt the anti-intellectuals misspelling words as well…
Mary,
Spelling errors equal “anti-intellectualism”?
You must be one of those picky Port-O-John Intellectuals, huh?
Mario Puzo, in the Godfather novel:
A lawyer with his briefcase can steal more than a thousand men with guns.
Anti-intellectualism…that’s how it’s spelled according to my dictionary.
“Spelling errors equal “anti-intellectualism”?”
No, the rejection of educated or intelligent ideas and thought is the dicription of “anti-intellectualism”
Obama is an intellectual…many on the right absolutely hate that. After 8 years of Dubya, I think it’s pretty refreshing to have elected someone who can speak in complete and coherent sentences.

You know, I don’t recall ever saying that there were 57 states like Obama has - even in any state of being drugged, drunk or falling asleep have I made such an error.
Obama’s ability to speak, does not mean intellect.
The ‘magic negro’ will get tested when he takes the oath of office and then everyone will see if he can deliver all those campaign promises he made.
I wouldn’t be holding my breath for any ‘change.’.
There will be a lot of ’snake oil’ drank in the Democratic Party after January.

No one beleives it’s going to be easy to turn things around, in fact I’m not waiting for it in my lifetime…that’s just how f**ked up things are in this world.
Your parroting of Rush Lamebutt really reveals your racist side. Shame on you.
“believes”…I know how to spell, sometimes my fingers don’t.
Well, given the choice between someone who is smart, thoughtful, and is capable of thinking outside the box..and someone who depends on trying to make his opponent look bad in order to look good, who followed Bush with his blinders on into the quagmire that is Iraq, and who had no new ideas for turning things around…I’d say the better man won the election.

Yeah, of course one can get full Social Security benefits as long as it doesn’t exceed your pre-determined cap.
If one’s cap is $2400 and you receive $2000 in military compensation, one will only receive an additional $400.00 not an additional $2400
“No, the rejection of educated or intelligent ideas and thought is the dicription of “anti-intellectualism”
Perhaps Mary what you really intend to do is debunk those of us who can see through the Obama Emperor/God and his shining knights with your antidisestablishmententarianism?
So, according to Mary, it is ok for Obama to mis-speak about something as basic as the number of states in this country, but it was a mortal sin for McCain or Palin to make a simple mistake about anything?
One sided acceptance for being human is the rule, yes?
Ha! That used to be the longest word in the dictionary, I learned it in the fourth grade.
No, I just prefer to see the glass as half full…anything would be better than what we’ve had the last 8 years..and Obama has the potential to be a great leader. But he can’t do it on his own and the problems are overwhelming. I fully expect things to get worse before they get better…but eventually they will get better.

Now just hold the door, sir, just hoooooold de door a minute here for me to catch up with you Regular.
Are you maybe referring to disability social security? Not the regular SS you will receive at age 62/67?
There may be circumstances for those drawing benefits on behalf of a disability that I am not aware of.
I’m trying real hard to follow you, without being judgemental.
Please explain. Because one of two things has to happen here:
Regular: Gets a pleasant surprise at age 62/67.
American_Way: Gets a nasty cut at age 62/67.
And my money is on the former rather than the later.
I don’t ever remember blasting McCain or Palin for misspeaking. Anyone can make an verbal slip when they’re tired and worn out…McCain opened his speech by saying “My fellow prisoners” rather than “My fellow Americans” during the campaign…it was an honest error.

Thanks!
Mary,
Now I know you don’t bother to actually get the facts, but Limbaugh was not the one who coined the term “Magic Negro.”
Limbaugh was merely using the words to point out that the liberals didn’t get upset when the LA Times was the one who published them here:
Obama the ‘Magic Negro’

“But it’s clear that Obama also is running for an equally important unelected office, in the province of the popular imagination — the “Magic Negro.”

I WANT! I WANT! I WANT!
Must this discussion be had every day? You WANT what others have, but you do NOT want to WORK for it as they did.
Why don’t you just steal it then?
I can’t imagine drawing both pensions at the same time. I know that my clients on disability who reach 65 can’t draw both full disability and social security. They usually get a little more, but not much. I suppose the rules are different for career vets.
And that WANTING from a woman who couldn’t get a nursing degree, but wants what someone who served 20+ years in the military EARNED!
AmWay–
Now you’re getting the picture.
Words have meanings, important meanings, like how much retirement someone can get.
To ReguLIAR, words are only a way for him to occupy his otherwise lonely and meaningless existence.
Anyone else would have long ago just admitted they didn’t know what the hell they were talking about.
But not ReguLIAR.
People are not people to him. They are playthings to be manipulated for his puerile sport.
So when he lies to make himself look the victim and in the process makes you start worrying about YOUR retirement.
Hey, that’s a bonus.
His wholly wasted life just took a major uptick!
Darn It!
I want what Bill Gates has too!
But it ain’t mine! I didn’t earn it! Bill did.
I work three jobs, Jim….and I don’t get a pension other than my 401k.
I have been a registered nurse for over 20 yrs. I’d say I earned my way. Nitwit.
So if you work for a company for 20 years and earn a pension, why would you NOT get the pension AND Social Security too?

What a paranoid moron…
” can’t imagine drawing both pensions at the same time….
Hey Mary, if you think that’s something, this will make you postively want to puke:
1. I have and am drawing my military retired pay.
2. I will draw Social Security in full
3. I am close to achieving another defined pension plan.
4. My wife will have a defined pension plan.
5. My wife will have her social security.
7. My wife maxes her Roth contribution (over 50 = 6,000) every year.
8. I maxed my Roth every year, until I now no longer qualify.
9. We both have 401K, which if Obama can pull it off, will actually be worth millions more for us.
Now, think of a way of stealing it from me and my hard working spouse - because we don’t deserve it.
You have 8 years.
ANSWER: The Socialists are already planning to MEANS TEST Social Security.
WRONG.
The “socialists” meaning FDR Democrats made sure that Social Security would never be means tested by instituting payroll taxes.
Means testing won’t work anyway. There aren’t enough “rich people” who don’t need Social Security for it to make much of a dent.
We socialists know this.

Life ain’t fair btich, and your stealing money from others ain’t fair either.
Get your hand out of my back pocket!
I’m not depending on anyone for my retirement bonehead…why do you think I work 3 jobs? I’m just envious that someone can draw a military pension AND social security at the same time. You talk about self reliance…but it looks to me like the government (ie my tax dollars) is paying your way!
Damn right, Am_Way.
Triple dip, Quadruple dip.
Hey, you paid in, you should get back.
And for those pensions, you have UNIONism to thank. Even if the military isn’t unionized, it has to compete with gov’t which is . . .
The thing is, “Jim,” using your logic, the most unproductive poster on this board and the least worthy of funding is YOU.
Old crippled worthless McCluer.
He’s “better than me?”
He can’t even get a job.
But that’s okay, because unlike YOU McCluer, I’ll fight for your right to not starve in the street in the richest country in the world.
Lucky for you AM…looks like you’ve made the systemn work for you. I hope you investments hold their value.
I’m putting my money into real estate…I feel like I have more control and the markets can’t affect myy rental income that much. All those Americans having their homes forclosed on need a place to live!
” You talk about self reliance…but it looks to me like the government (ie my tax dollars) is paying your way!”
Slow the truck down Mary (although I expected this).
You have no idea the hardships me, my wife, and our children went through during my over two decades of military service. It’s not just about me. The times spend worrying by my wife. The times the car broke down and I wasn’t there. The time all the kids got chicken measles at the SAME time (boy did I hear about that one). My kids never staying in the same school district with friends (not to mention quality school districts). And me? Oh boy, don’t get me started. But just imagine what goes through your mind the first time you do the australian repel looking down a 300 foot cliff at the rocks below. Rifle and 782 gear all strapped on. Sorta makes your nuts suck right up into your you know what.
And it’s not about me. THINK about the young men and women TODAY! I thought I had it bad? These kids are on their third and fourth tours in combat zones! The strain on the families must be enormous!
You are a nurse. Go to the nearest VA hospital and walk onto any ward. Tell them they don’t deserve to draw their military retired pay AND the social security that THEY ALSO PAID IN TO!!!
BTW, I’m happy for you, Am_Way.

We’re just talking about how the rest of society “earns” their way too and should have something like what the military has too.
O.K., it was only 130 foot cliff. Got carried away.
CapnAmerica,
Your definition of “earn” and ours seem to be two completely different things.
Real estate and our 401Ks for our future….except my husband’s company quit matching his 401K contributions. Didn’t all the corporations jump on that bandwagon!
“All those Americans having their homes forclosed on need a place to live!”
That’s right Mary. You can be the slum lord! But a nice one who issues first aid kits for every home.
Since corporate rank and file workers are subject to global pricing pressures, it stands to reason that corporate executives should be subjected to the same pressures. American bus. leaders should not be compensated at a higher rate than all the other developed countries.
The workforce at Spirit were quite upset that at the time they were being put on a three day work week, Turner was being awarded an outlandish stock/pay bonus.
Spirit is a public company and not the private playground for the executives.
Conservatives. Working hard…
So you don’t have to.

“You are a nurse. Go to the nearest VA hospital and walk onto any ward. Tell them they don’t deserve to draw their military retired pay AND the social security that THEY ALSO PAID IN TO!!!”
I’m not saying you don’t deserve what you’re getting, I just get a little tired of certain bloggers saying that others should be independant and self reliant as they’re cashing their government checks. The rest of us would like to have some of the same access to retirement security and health care benefits. I think I work just as hard as anyone, yet if I lose my job, I lose my benefits, also. Most working Americans can’t afford to get sick.
Correct, Nathan.
Your definition of the military is this mystical place where all kinds of suffering and deprivation take place to serve the country, and afterward the country is forever in debt to their service.
My definition of the military is that it’s not much worse than Wal-Mart on a bad day.
Everybody’s got it rough, in and out of the military. Everybody deserves a decent pension to live on and a decent pension plan to make it happen.
For being this tough marine etc., you sure do whine about how tough you had it . . .

That’s complete BULLSIHT!
You ABSOLUTELY ARE talking about taking from somebody else. Raising taxes on the rich to pay for the poor.
Oh, and the rich will wind up being those making more then $42,000/year.
Already, the bottom 50% pay less then 3% of the income tax. You are wanting the top 50% to pay 100% of the income tax.
Forcing one group to pay for another group - is taking away, no STEALING from one group to pay for another.
Your DoubleObamaSpeak Lies Capn don’t fool anybody, but the fools.
That is the thing about these liberals.
Instead of giving from their own pocketbook to help others, they want the government to force others to do thier charity work for them.
CapnAmerica, KFG, and the rest of the liberals here could all buy JR health insurance if they really cared about him, instead they want to wait around and support the government doing it.
CapnAmerica and Mary could be out feeding the starving people right now.
Instead they want to sit on a blog complaining and waiting for the government to do it.
And you Socialists want MORE FEDERAL SPENDING for National Healthcare.
You’ll get the top 50% to pay for that too!
Taking even more from one group, to pay for another.
There are no money trees you fools!
GREAT 11:46 POST, MARY!
Megadittos!
You hit the nail right on the head.
“That’s right Mary. You can be the slum lord! But a nice one who issues first aid kits for every home.”

CapnAmerica,
I must have missed where I was complaining (about how tough I had it). As usual, you can’t argue with the facts, just create your little strawman and argue against that instead.
What an intellectual fraud you are.
The biggest expense for the VA is not medical services and treatment, it is the disability compensation. It is one of the most abused govt. programs in govt.
JiMcCluerJohnson–
No way.
We’ll use the money that is now being wasted on paying for private administration of health care to pay for a streamlined and efficient plan.
My company and I spend some 700 dollars a month on my HMO plan.
If that could be rolled into a giant gov’t backed plan, we could all get a lot more health care at the same or reduced price.
Taxes are wholly unnecessary. We already spend about TWICE the GDP on our healthcare that other countries do . . . and it’s all going to top management.
Careful JJ, Mary will start typing antidisestablishmententarianism on the blog. And her spelling indicates a possible overdose of caffeine….. (She must have had a double shot from Starbucks!)

Simple solution Amway.
It’s already been debated and decided by the Leftists here that Social Security is Payroll, not a tax.
Lil Chas baby argued that until he was blue in the face.
So that 7.65% coming out of your back pocket ain’t money AmWay, it is P A Y R O L L.
LOL - Puking my brains out - Blasting gas through the walls! Yuck. Yuck.
So, on what Constitutional basis can the Government collect P A Y R O L L since it is not a TAX?
“CapnAmerica and Mary could be out feeding the starving people right now.
Instead they want to sit on a blog complaining and waiting for the government to do it.”
How do you know what we do and don’t do? And aren’t you sitting on the blog complaining about the libs right now? Typical con…bitching about everybody else while doing the same thing.
Nathan lies, I must have missed where I was complaining (about how tough I had it).
*****
Okay, then how do you define “earned benefits” in the military?
It’s a simple question. Just answer it.
For once.
No it IS a tax!
No it isn’t!
“but there is a fire extinguisher in every kitchen!”
Not good enough. Smoke detectors. Not cheap photoelectric models. You need ionization detectors in every bedroom by newest code (used to be hallways/stairways).
Better start spending…..
So Obama will be raising taxes on those earning over $102,000.

So Obama won’t be raising taxes.

You mean 15.3%. That’s money that could be in MY pocket, but the government takes equal shares from me and my employer to pay for todays general fund.
And the socialist also know that the real money will come by lifting the cap of social security withholdings. The wage cap is presently $102,000

JiMcCluer–
Why don’t you wait until Obama actually proposes changes to Soc Security before you get all frothy at the mouth?
Both Mary and CapnAmerica voiced a concern here today, I will have to think about.
Both indicated that everyone deserves a nice retirement. They both in a way compared it to someone drawing more than social security (in this case a military pension). I do hear what they are saying.
I’m leaving now. I have things to do. But I really have to think about what they are saying so I can better understand them and their cause.
So I can fight it.

“However, SS cannot be taxed on all income.

Well CapnAmerica, at least you can see the light.
You can see that it would NOT be fair to payout any less to those who paid in more. Even for the rich.
There is hope.
CapnAmerica,
The average person in the military makes less in salary than his civilian counterpart would.
He works 40 hours a week like any other job. Wakes up and works all day.
He also trains. Beyond merely working during the week he will spend time over the weekends out in the field. Training to win wars.
It doesn’t matter if he works 80 hours in one week, he still get paids the same.
When our Nation calls them to do battle, they go into harms way and often work even more than a mere 40 hours a week in hostile conditions where they are fighting practically for their lives.
They do all this and much more and still many of them would be what we consider to be below poverty as they have a wife and 2 kids living in base houseing with just enough money to pay the bills and eat.
So, yes, they work all day and fight for their country. They EARN the money and benefits they have.
And if they stay for 20 years? They get retirement with benefits as well.
That is 20 years of working, fighting, training, and doing it all in the worst of conditions sometimes.
Then you have the gall to compare them to someone doing nothing? Say that they are getting welfare?
CapnAmerica, you are an intellectual fraud. A true liberal idiot.

SS is a tax then, Capn admits it.
SS cannot be taxed on all income or the Socialists can’t justify everyone getting about the same benefit! But the Socialists will find a way to do this!
Those who pay in more, will get less.
Those who pay in less, will get more.
Perfect Obamanismspeak!
Not even including the stress on a family as their lvoed ones are away from home, fighting, or merely on deployments abroad.
Nevermind the fact that as you stay in longer and gain rank your obligations change, you have to move to where the military needs you.
All that stress on the family, all that hard work, all that dedication.
That is EARNING the salary they get, which is often times far less than what the civilian market would pay for the skills they might have.
State of the Count
In Missouri, no absentee ballots or provisional ballots were counted during the weekend. Counting will resume today. It is taking a long time because every provisional ballot has to be verified before it is counted. In Alaska, 24,000 remaining ballots will be counted tomorrow in the Senate race. There is a good chance of having a result by Wednesday, although a recount is possible. In Minnesota, certification of the results will occur tomorrow. It is expected that Norm Coleman will win by 206 votes. Then a recount will begin Wednesday. There were 25,000 ballots in which no vote for senator was cast, largely in Democratic counties. In a manual recount, some of these may show votes that the optical scanner missed. In Georgia, there will be a runoff on Dec. 2 for the Senate race. No progress has been reported on the six House races still up in the air.
http://electoral-vote.com/evp2008/Pres/Maps/Nov17.html
“The cap should be lifted periodically to reflect inflation. DUH”
And it is automatically adjusted every year. How much is an eye opener.
In 2000 the cap was 76,200
In 2009 the cap is 106,800
A jump of $30,000 in nine years. Do you suppose the wage earner will reap very much of that back in the way of benefits?
Can’t wait to see the Chasism that occurs when Capn has to tell his lil buddy Chas that he was wrong about Social Security not being a tax!
Those in the military do it for many reasons, often times because they feel compelled to serve their country to fight for freedoms and to protect idiots like CapnAmerica who would turn around and say that they didn’t earn it or try to compare what they do to others who really did not earn it.
That was refreshing to watch Obama on 60 min. giving reasoned and intelligent answers during the interview.
——————–
I bet you make a lot of infomercial purchases.
. . . . . .
Did you watch it, Anti? I just finished watching the first half online and agree with Phantom. I also noticed something the cons will appreciate. Obama said he is soundly in favor of the free market. Do I see smiles all around?
He also intends to have a mixed cabinet, although he wasn’t specific.
I know it’s hard to switch your brains back to intelligence after 8 years of the ridiculous, but open your mind and give it a try. There will be things you disagree with, but I’d lay odds there will be others that you find you are in agreement with.
http://www.cbsnews.com/sections/60minutes/main3415.shtml
Already, the bottom 50% pay less then 3% of the income tax. You are wanting the top 50% to pay 100% of the income tax.
*****
I already destroyed this argument once.
But here it is again:
In 2007, the tiny country of Randonia has 11 households earning income.
10 households make 50K each.
You make 500 million.
Randonia has a 10 percent flat tax.
The ten households pay 5,000.
You pay 50 million. You paid 90 percent of all income taxes collected.
In 2008, Randonia changes its laws, so that anyone making less than 1 million pays no income taxes. However they lower the tax to 5 percent.
You are now the only person who pays taxes in Randonia, so you pay 100 percent of all the income taxes collected.
However, your taxes are half as much as they were the year before.
CONCLUSION–the percent of the taxes collected from the top earners only reflects the fact that they make a lot of money. It cannot be used to argue that they are taxed too much or too little.
Your sacrifices don’t matter Nathan.
CapnChas and the Libs here don’t think you earn your military pay, military pension, or military health benefits.
Actually, they don’t think at all.
They feel.
And they feel like taking from others what they have been unable or unwilling to earn on their own.
Actually Nathan, your sacrifices do matter to some, like me.
Just to clarify.
I believe the 11/11/08 Veterans Day Open topic was very clear, on the differences between Leftist Socialists and Conservatives on how our Vets should be treated.
And CapnChas bashed the heck outta the Vets on Veterans Day.
Health benefits?
Sorry, the liberals keep thinking that I get my health care from the military. I do not.
I am in the Reserves. The only time I have coverage is when I am at drill for 2 days or actively training.
“The average person in the military makes less in salary than his civilian counterpart would.”
Nice try, Nathan.
But I had to quit reading after your first sentence.
Since you believe in “the free market,” obviously there are benefits to working in the military. Clearly, the pay is not an issue or people wouldn’t be working there, just like people wouldn’t be working at Wal-Mart.
If the benefits weren’t sufficient to overcome the “long hours etc. etc. etc,” we wouldn’t have an all-volunteer army, would we?
So it’s just a job like any other.
And like any other, people both in and out of the military should get a pension for a lifetime of service.
Here’s just one Gem, in case you missed it. 11/11/08 was a day full of Vet Bashing by the Libs.

Paying Veterans for services rendered is NOT Socialism.
*****
Okay, feel free to keep saying it, McCluer.
But it is socialism.
The gov’t takes taxpayer’s money and spends it on their behalf.
It doesn’t matter if the money is going to a hard-working grunt on the front lines or a welfare queen who’s job is churning out babies.
The gov’t takes tax money from those earning income(capital) and spends it in ways that it tries to justify as benefitting society.
=================================
HEY VETS! You see this?
No difference between a soldier and a welfare queen, per the Capn.
You all agree with this?
The soldier, fighting for the entire country, the welfare queen, fighting for her next beer and cigarette, same difference?
Per the Capn, no difference.
Nathan - my understanding (and correct me if I am wrong) is that VA would cover you for service-related injuries and otherwise you are on your own (while not on duty). And that when on duty you are covered.
Seems fair to me …
CapnAmerica,
Once again, your idea of “service” is obviously completely different than mine.
“Service” to you apparently involves sitting on the couch watching TV and cashing your welfare check.
That is not “service” and that is not “earning” anything.
People already have access to pensions and health care if they get a job.
Just like someone in the military.
Airborne Ranger Infantry
Walmart greeter (on a bad day)
Yeah, Nathan, can’t you see they are the same?
Nice bone-dig, JiMcCluer.
You were always good at that, no matter what nic you used.
I stand behind what I said. Welfare or military pensions are both a form of socialism.
So is the arena. So is the newest public education bond. So are Blackwater’s SUV parked in neat rows and never used.
“Service” to you apparently involves sitting on the couch watching TV and cashing your welfare check.
*****
Nah, c’mon, Nathan, not even YOU believe that.
I do think that the hard working men and women of America deserve the same kinds of pensions that the military do.
That takes nothing away from the military . . .
Welfare or military pensions are both a form of socialism.
Welfare - couldn’t keep a job/had more kids than I can afford.
Military retirment - performed a job most wouldn’t in conditions not fit for man. For twenty years or more.
Starting to see the logic flaw?
Capn - I must disagree with you on military pensions. They are earned IMO. It is part of the contract.
SolDevVB,
Don’t start introducing things like logic now, not with CapnAmerica.
That stuff goes right over his head.
I do think that the hard working men and women of America deserve the same kinds of pensions that the military do.

And this is the difference between a Lefty Socialist and a Conservative.
Leftists actually think they are entitled to something the day they are born on this planet, and that they can force others to pay for their free ride.
Conservatives know that you must earn your way through life.
No, Sol, I don’t.
The key similarity is that gov’t takes money from taxpayers and gives it to somebody else.
Whether the people that get the money deserve it or not is irrelevant.
It’s still the same process . . .
It is part of the contract.
That nailed it. Great point.
Funny, the Libs who claim to care so much for others, are always the ones who are taking from others.
If they truly cared so much, they wouldn’t be worried about what they are to receive, they would be working their tails off to support themselves, and provide for the ones they care about.
But to the Libs, the Kennedy quote has been ba*tardized into: Ask not what you can do for your country, ask what your country can do for you!
So what, Ben.
Why isn’t it part of the contract in other lines of work?
And sometimes, it is.
It’s part of the contract for UAW workers, and listen to the CONs b! ch and whine about that.
Gotta go.

The military provides America’s national defense and support in times of disaster.
What service does a welfare recipient provide America?

First it was “earn” and “service”

Well, yeah, DUH.
The complete oversimplification of the “process” as the government taking taxes and then spending that money on either military pay and benefits vs Welfare is the same…. technically.
Idiot. That is not and was not your argument nor what we were disagreeing with.
It is your asinine notion that they all “earned” it and performed the same or equivalent “service” for it.

No, Sol, I don’t.
The key similarity is that gov’t takes money from taxpayers and gives it to somebody else.
Whether the people that get the money deserve it or not is irrelevant.
It’s still the same process . . .
———————————————————
Capn’s Corollary:
1. Money from Government should be received no matter what, whether they deserve it or not.
2. Any money from Government is Socialism.
3. Socialism is a good thing.
Another difference?
That pay which the military earns is taxed as payroll.
Is a welfare check taxed as payroll?

Second, I talked about MARRYING him so he could be on my health insurance. WTF more do you want from me?

‘Mountains out of molehills‘

“It was entirely predictable that the denialists would hype up the glitch in the surface temperature record for last month. This opinion piece by Christopher Booker was picked up by Drudge, so the usual collection of global warming denialists have been fulminating about how this proves you can’t trust the science. For example, at the Discovery Institute
But computer modeling is not pure science and at its best it is only as good as the information programed into it. That is true for wild claims made for computer models of evolution and it is true of climate modeling.
While all of this was predictable, it is still interesting to see exactly how Booker misrepresented what happened. Watch Booker spin:
A surreal scientific blunder last week raised a huge question mark about the temperature records that underpin the worldwide alarm over global warming.
Surreal? Some numbers ended up in the wrong column in a table. And the error was quickly detected and corrected. This should increase your confidence in the data, not raise a “huge question mark”.
On Monday, Nasa’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), which is run by Al Gore’s chief scientific ally, Dr James Hansen, and is one of four bodies responsible for monitoring global temperatures, announced that last month was the hottest October on record.
This is a fabrication. GISS made no such announcement.”

The last time I checked, it takes TWO people to have a marriage contract. And perhaps JR would someday like to enjoy a, ya know, real marriage, not just one for health insurance.

And what have YOU done lately to get health insurance for someone who has trouble getting it on their own.
Pay taxes? So do I.

We’re saved from THE GAY topic by Global Warming!
KFG,
The mere act of owning your own business and being self employed doesn’t prove that you are working to support yourself.
JR can’t afford his own health care or that of his sons.
JR sits on this blog rather routinely telling us all how the government owes him and that we should all be taking care of him.
So how is that business going for him?
I know many other small business owners who don’t sit around expecting the government to take care of them or are asking for it all the time.
So what is JR doing wrong?
“Something tells me THE GAY topic will arise again!”
Yep. Everyday until my marriage is equal to yours in the eyes of the law. That is, if you are married, which I suspect no thinking woman or man would do.
You may as well give up now. Resistance is futile.
Nathaniel,
1) Do you believe that the agricultural economist Dennis Avery is a credible source re AGW science?
2) Are the peer-reviewed scientists who say that Avery misrepresents their opinions on AGW wrong?
“The mere act of owning your own business and being self employed doesn’t prove that you are working to support yourself.”
ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So the conservative myth of the hard working entrepreneur is just that? A myth?
That’s because you are a sad little ideologue and not someone who IS self employed.
Jesus. No one but a wingnut can win with you people. If we work for a wage, we are socialist slackers sucking off rich people. If we are self employed, we are not working hard enough to suit you.
Jesus. What a maroon.
“JR sits on this blog rather routinely telling us all how the government owes him and that we should all be taking care of him.”
I’ve never heard him say that.
I’ve heard him speak about economic justice and caring for folks who need the help, but I have NEVER heard him say anyone “owes” him a living.
God nathan, do you even get your head out long enough to look at the real world and not just the one you IMAGINE is out there?
Perhaps if you were not so sheltered, you’d be more realistic.
Since there are already 900 posts on the topic of Prop. 8, I decided to post my opinion here.
If my religious brothers and sisters were really working to protect the “sanctity” of marriage, they would work for a constitutional amendment that outlawed adultry, abuse, and divorce.
Otherwise, how about live and let live; how about using the Constitution to protect a minority group by allowing them the same rights and privileges that all other citizens of our country have.

There is an organization that calls itself
Environmental Media Services. In the “about us” section of its website it states “EMS is a nonprofit communications clearinghouse dedicated to expanding media coverage of critical environmental and public health issues. We build relationships with top scientists, physicians, and other experts to bring journalists the latest and most credible information. EMS was founded in 1994 by former Time, Newsweek and Sports Illustrated journalist Arlie Schardt. Schardt also headed the Environmental Defense Fund in the 1970s. EMS is a nonprofit funded by foundations and individuals working to improve public understanding of environmental and public health issues.”
So, living up to its pledge to provide “credible information” it also sponsors the internet site BushGreenwatch. BushGreenwatch is also sponsored by moveon.org.
First a little research on Arlie Schardt, the founder of Environmental Media Services reveals the following tidbit on Arlie Schardt, senior consultant at Fenton Communications. “Arlie Schardt, the chairman of Environmental Media Services, was editor of Foundation News from 1982-1994, and vice president for communications at the Council on Foundations from 1988-1992, taking a sabbatical to serve as national press secretary for Al Gore’s first presidential campaign in 1988.” For an “unglossed” biography of Mr. Schardt, go here.

Readers of the Feb. 14th, 2005 Wall Street Journal may have gotten the impression that RealClimate is in some way affiliated with an environmental organisation. We wish to stress that although our domain is being hosted by Environmental Media Services, and our initial press release was organised for us by Fenton Communications, neither organization was in any way involved in the initial planning for RealClimate, and have never had any editorial or other control over content. Neither Fenton nor EMS has ever paid any contributor to RealClimate.org any money for any purpose at any time. Neither do they pay us expenses, buy our lunch or contract us to do research.“

Due to network maintenance, we were only able to download our basic file late today. We redid the analysis - thanks to the many people who noticed and informed us of that problem.
2008-11-11: Most data posted yesterday were replaced by the data posted last month since it looks like some mishap might have occurred when NOAA updated their GHCN data. We will postpone updating this web site until we get confirmation from NOAA that their updating programs worked properly. Nathaniel,
The agricultural economist Dennis Avery used the names of peer-reviewed scientists to make his (Avery’s) anti-AGW opinion appear to be more credible.
After reading the reactions of some those scientists on Avery’s list,
http://blogs.kansas.com/weblog/2008/11/open-thread-1117/#comment-470677
do you still believe that Avery is a credible source re AGW science?
If you do, explain why.
Pmom I would challenge you to walk with some Salvation Army workers as they take care of the hungry, homeless, down on their luck, etc…
My son worked with them when he gave up 4 weeks of vacation to go to NO after Katrina to help rebuild homes.
The SA people had on red shirts and the scientology people had on brown shirts. This gave you admittance to the work areas and allowed volunteers to be easily identified. When you finished an assignment you went back to ground zero to be reassigned.
When supervisors came looking for workers they always requested the red shirts because they were the workers and the brown shirts always wanted to talk to the workers and convert them to their way of thinking. Thus they never got much done.
Also he said the Red Cross workers were ‘organizers’ and would never do the actual work. The problem you needed more workers and fewer organizers. The SA volunteers were always out in the field working.
Just a little story. I know it won’t penetrate your prejuidices but it actually happened. Maybe you are fearing the wrong groups.
EMS: a history of hysteria?
In the following week, McEwen’s death was featured in newspaper and television reports in over 30 media markets. Once momentum was established, Environmental Media Services (EMS) went on the offensive. Its press releases claimed that an “epidemic” of a mad-cow-like disease was ravaging western deer and elk, and suggested a link to CJD in humans.
Science Responds
A few news outlets took the time to ask the scientific community for an informed opinion, and the response was unanimous. The Daily Oklahoman ran a front-page story on the subject on April 5, 1999, relying on scientists to set the record straight. Dr. Roger Brumback, a pathology professor at the University of Oklahoma, was unequivocal. “To suddenly call Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease the human form of mad cow disease is incorrect or, at best, misleading,” Brumback said. “Most people get CJD because they’re born with a genetic defect or as a result of a spontaneous genetic mutation.”

A typical AGW denier. . .
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Booker#Criticism
“Booker’s articles in The Daily Telegraph on asbestos and also on global warming have been challenged by George Monbiot in an article in The Guardian newspaper [1]
Booker’s scientific claims, which include the false assertion that white asbestos (chrysotile) is “chemically identical to talcum powder” [2] were analysed in detail by Richard Wilson in his book Don’t Get Fooled Again (2008). (The chemical formula for talc is H2Mg3(SiO3)4 or Mg3Si4O10(OH)2, while the formula for chrysotile, the primary ingredient of white asbestos, is Mg3(Si2O5)(OH)4).
Wilson also highlighted Christopher Booker’s repeated endorsement of the alleged scientific expertise of John Bridle, who has claimed to be “the world’s foremost authority on asbestos science”, but who in 2005 was convicted under the UK’s Trade Descriptions Act [3] of making false claims about his qualifications, and who the BBC has accused of basing his reputation on “lies about his credentials, unaccredited tests, and self aggrandisement”.[4]“
Scam after scam after scam. And still those that believe.
If you’ve ever been advised to steer clear of a food, beverage, or other consumer product based on the claims of a nonprofit organization, you’ve likely been “spun” by Fenton’s multi-million-dollar message machine — and Environmental Media Services (EMS) has probably been the messenger.
EMS is the communications arm of leftist public relations firm Fenton Communications. Based in Washington, in the same office suite as Fenton, EMS claims to be “providing journalists with the most current information on environmental issues.” A more accurate assessment might be that it spoon-feeds the news media sensationalized stories, based on questionable science, and featuring activist “experts,” all designed to promote and enrich David Fenton’s paying clients, and build credibility for the nonprofit ones. It’s a clever racket, and EMS & Fenton have been running it since 1994.

“The salient facts are these. First, the accepted global average temperature statistics used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change show that no ground-based warming has occurred since 1998. Oddly, this eight-year-long temperature stasis has occurred despite an increase over the same period of 15 parts per million (or 4 per cent) in atmospheric CO2.
Second, lower atmosphere satellite-based temperature measurements, if corrected for non-greenhouse influences such as El Nino events and large volcanic eruptions, show little if any global warming since 1979, a period over which atmospheric CO2 has increased by 55 ppm (17 per cent).
Third, there are strong indications from solar studies that Earth’s current temperature stasis will be followed by climatic cooling over the next few decades.”

In response to claims made by Carter that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change uncovered no evidence that global warming was caused by human activity, a former CSIRO climate scientist stated that Carter was not a credible source on climate change and that “if he [Carter] has any evidence that [global warming over the past 100 years] is a natural variability he should publish through the peer review process.”

New York, New York – Scientists skeptical of man-made climate fears meeting at the 2008 International Conference on Climate Change in New York City described the “absolute horror stories” about how some scientific journals have engaged in “outrageous and unethical behavior” in attempting to suppress them from publishing their work in peer-reviewed journals. The March 2-4 groundbreaking conference, which featured about 100 speakers with over 500 people attending, presented the report of a team of international scientists who formed a group to counter the UN IPCC. [Note: The author of this report attended and participated in the conference.]
[snip...]
The conference occurred just months after the release of a blockbuster U.S. Senate Minority Report featuring over 400 prominent scientists who recently disputed man-made global warming claims. (LINK) The more than 400 scientists featured in the report thoroughly debunk the assertions that “all scientists agree” about man-made global warming. But as New York Times environmental reporter Andrew Revkin noted on March 6, science is ultimately not a numbers game. “As we all know, climate science is not a numbers game (there are heaps of signed statements by folks with advanced degrees on all sides of this issue),” Revkin wrote. (LINK)
Furthermore, a Canadian survey of scientists released on March 6, 2008 offered even more evidence that the alleged ‘consensus’ is non-existent. A canvass of more than 51,000 scientists with the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA) found 68% of them disagree with the statement that ‘the debate on the scientific causes of recent climate change is settled.’” According to the survey, only 26% of scientists attributed global warming to “human activity like burning fossil fuels.” APEGGA’s executive director Neil Windsor said, “We’re not surprised at all. There is no clear consensus of scientists that we know of.” (LINK)

I’d bet the EU subsidizes their auto industry even though they are making noises about an American bail out. If not directly, then through their universal medical coverage.
“As the U-S auto industry struggles to garner domestic support for a government bailout…it also faces challenges from abroad. WDET’s Sarah Cwiek reports… SOQ European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso told Europe One Radio that the E-U is closely monitoring plans for U-S government aid to the auto industry. Barroso says if the E-U finds any eventual plan in violation of international trade agreements…it will act to challenge the bailout through the World Trade Organization. Julia Qin (Chin) teaches international trade and finance at Wayne State University’s Law School. She says the W-T-O has rules governing how member nations can subsidize their industries…and prohibiting subsidies if other nations show they will have an “adverse effect.” Qin says the E-U could likely make that case for its automakers…if the U-S proceeds with a bailout: “In light of proposed government aid for the auto industries…the adverse effect could be that the foreign automobiles would not be able to compete effectively in the U-S domestic market.” In other bad news for U-S automakers abroad…the Financial Times reports that three European credit insurers have denied coverage to General Motors and Ford suppliers there. G-M and Ford will be two of the largest companies to ever have their coverage terminated. This is Sarah Cwiek…WDET news.

Marine base bans anti-Islam decals
Chad Groening - OneNewsNow - 11/17/2008 9:00:00 AM
A law firm that defends and promotes America’s Christian heritage has filed suit against Marine officials on a behalf of a veteran who was ordered not to express his opposition to Islamic terrorism while driving on military installations.
Jesse Nieto is a 25-year Marine veteran who served two tours of duty in Vietnam. His youngest son, Marc, was one of 17 service members killed on October 12, 2000 by Islamic terrorists who bombed the USS Cole. Since 2001, Nieto — who is now a civilian employee at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina — has displayed various decals on his vehicle expressing anti-terrorist sentiments such as “Islam = Terrorism” and “We Died, They Rejoiced.”
Richard Thompson, president and chief counsel of the Thomas More Law Center, says on July 31, 2008, two military police officers issued Nieto a ticket for displaying what they described as “offensive material.”
“They decide to make an example of him, issue a ticket, force him to take off the decals — and then say if you keep any decals on your vehicle that have anything to do with the Islamic terrorists, you can’t drive your vehicle on any federal installation,” says the attorney.
Thompson says the ban also prohibits his client from driving his vehicle into Arlington National Cemetery to visit the grave of his fallen son.
The lawsuit alleges that military officials have engaged in viewpoint discrimination, noting that other individuals are allowed to display anti-Christian decals of a similar nature on vehicles driving onto the installation.
“That’s the Darwin fish that they have, which is an anti-Christian decal,” says the Law Center president. “They’re permitting those. But they are saying anything that smacks of criticism of radical Islam — that is, the terrorists — we’re not going to allow.”
Thompson describes the case as political correctness run amok.
“I suspect the next thing the Marine command will want to do is eliminate the Marine’s Hymn since the phrase ‘to the shores of Tripoli’ celebrates the Marine victory over Islamic forces in the Barbary Coast War and the Battle of Derne,” he states in a press release.

EMS? RealClimate? LOL
Prominent Hungarian Physicist Dr. Miklós Zágoni, a former global warming activist who recently reversed his views about man-made climate fears and is now a skeptic, presented scientific findings at the conference refuting rising CO2 fears. Zágoni’s scientific mentor Hungarian scientist, Dr. Ferenc Miskolczi, an atmospheric physicist, resigned from his post working with NASA because he was disgusted with the agency’s lack of scientific freedom. Miskolczi, who also presented his peer-reviewed findings at the conference, said he wanted to release his new research that showed “runaway greenhouse theories contradict energy balance equations,” but he claims NASA refused to allow him.

Oh Rage we did that last week when a meeting was called at a McDonalds in Topeka to decide which day we wanted to make the next national holiday, Barack Obama Day!
We?
Point taken.
One might make a distinction between a church with an established congregation and a handful of activists meeting in a McDonald’s, but that’s fine. I don’t regard foolish, hateful behavior by churches as any more newsworthy.
Except that there are probably thousands in Kansas who approve of that incoherent sign. I’d like to believe otherwise. The 70% vote on an amendment every bit as incoherent and hateful would tend to argue in favor of my view, as would the repeated posts to this forum defending it.
To say nothing of the “Obama Osama” and “Obama the Muslim” crap we’ve seen here.
CNN actually talked to Holick and he said something like “the point is that he’s not a Christian” (untrue and irrelevant, but whatever).

————–
No, not from Heartland.
The AGW deniers fear and avoid scientific methodology.
Al Gore has spewed 1,000 times the C02 into the air than I will in a lifetime. Here is a comparison.
Algore lives in a huge house, I have a small house.
Algore burns tons of jet fuel to give speeches, I have never flown in a jet.
Algore causes millions of people to get into cars and drive to see his movie and speeches. I would never hurt the environment that way.
So in conclusion, change YOUR lifestyle Al, mine is just fine!!!
Isn’t the Heartland Institute a group that studies Free Market ideas? What exactly are they studing climate change for? Maybe I will take my car to my plumber next time it needs work….
I really can’t for the life of me understand why ksfarmgrrl has her panties (or in her case, maybe jocky shorts) in a wad over Prop 8.
She lives on a farm in Where-the-hell-am-I Kansas. How in the hell was her life any worse on Nov 5th than it was on Nov 3rd?
A bunch of nuts in California fail to stop the will of the people concerning gay marriage effects her how?
Was it a shock to her? Anyone following the polls knew it was going to pass. Anyway, the individual states mean little. The federal government matters and that’s not happening either.
Rage I was actually joking about the ‘national holiday’ idea. We all need to lighten up. The election was held and we have a new prez elect. There were 55 million voters that didn’t vote for Obama and we will see some of that opposition in signs, hear it on the news, read it in the tabloids, etc…
That is the nature of our country. We are ruled by the results of our elections. I accept that Obama is my new prez as of 1/21/09. Critics of the prop 8 vote need to accept that it happened. They need to embark on a mission to educate the masses if that is what you think needs to happen.
As for your statement that “The 70% vote on an amendment every bit as incoherent and hateful would tend to argue in favor of my view, as would the repeated posts to this forum defending it.
I think I can draw a conclusion that this blog in no way has a demographic even close to the population of CA. Also that many more rabid liberals post here than conservatives. Interesting.
Geologist Dr. Don Easterbrook, an emeritus professor of geology at Western Washington University who has authored eight books and 150 journal publications, announced earlier this week that he was putting his “reputation on the line” by predicting global cooling. “The average of the four main temperature measuring methods is slightly cooler since 2002 (except for a brief el Niño interruption) and record breaking cooling this winter. The argument that this is too short a time period to be meaningful would be valid were it not for the fact that this cooling exactly fits the pattern of timing of warm/cool cycles over the past 400 years,” Easterbrook wrote on March 1, 2008.

In January 2008, environmental scientist professor Delgado Domingos of Portugal, the founder and director of the Numerical Weather Forecast group, announced publicly that he considered CO2 related climate fears to be “dangerous nonsense.” Domingos, who retired in 2006, has more than 150 published articles in the research fields of Thermodynamics, Numerical Methods in Fluid Mechanics and Meteorological Forecast. “There are measurable climate changes but there is also an enormous manipulation in reducing everything to CO2 and equivalents. The main gas producing the green house effect is water vapor. The present alarm on climate change is an instrument of social control, a pretext for major businesses and political battle. It became an ideology, which is concerning,” Domingos said.

Key findings of the NIPCC’s climate findings:
1) Most of climate change is caused by natural forces.
2) The human contribution is not significant.
3) Solar-activity changes are the main cause of climate change.
Climate Scientist Dr. S. Fred Singer, former director the US Weather Satellite Service and past vice chairman of the U.S. National Advisory Committee on Oceans and Atmosphere, told the conference that the IPCC “chose to ignore these facts, because they conflicted with the conclusion that global warming is anthropogenic (man-made).

Anyway, the individual states mean little.
Actually, they do, and in California’s case we had an audacious action that actually took away rights that had already been granted. No one deserves to call themselves American can be happy about that.
The more states institutionalize discrimination, the more pressure there will be on Supreme Court to render a second Dred Scott decision, wherein one’s fundamental humanity is subject to state lines. The bigots know this: that’s why they didn’t appeal to the Supreme Court in Massachusetts and Connecticut. They want to establish Constitutional discrimination at the state level, so the Supreme Court will be reluctant to reach the conclusion that inevitably follows from Lawrence v. Texas.

It’s part of a civil rights movement. But I agree that there’s not much point in yelling at each other here.
There was a lot of truth to that. Imagine taking offense to it.
I see the old codger is back today. I think Hillary shook him up when she asked him if she could take over the committee on health care.
I wish him only the best.
Rage I think that is the problem with the issue. I watched a black lesbian on a news show the other night. She was debating a white gay man. He was saying it was a civil rights issue and she took offense. She told him that in no way could the black movement be equated with the SSM issue.
She was pretty adamant about it. This is where much of the confusion comes about and could also be a reason many blacks voted for it. They feels it demeans what they had to do to get racial quality.
It was an interesting discussion with a slant I hadn’t heard before.

• The average atmospheric water vapour content has increased since at least the 1980s over land and ocean as well as in the upper troposphere. The increase is broadly consistent with the extra water vapour that warmer air can hold. {3.4}
3.4.2 Water Vapour
Water vapour is a key climate variable. In the lower troposphere, condensation of water vapour into precipitation provides latent heating which dominates the structure of tropospheric diabatic heating (Trenberth and Stepaniak, 2003a,b). Water vapour is also the most important gaseous source of infrared opacity in the atmosphere, accounting for about 60% of the natural greenhouse effect for clear skies (Kiehl and Trenberth, 1997), and provides the largest positive feedback in model projections of climate change (Held and Soden, 2000).
Last Monday, Nasa’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), which is run by Al Gore’s chief scientific ally, Dr James Hansen, and is one of four bodies responsible for monitoring global temperatures, announced that last month was the hottest October on record. Meanwhile, across the world there were reports of unseasonal snow and plummeting temperatures last month, from the American Great Plains to China, and from the Alps to New Zealand. China’s official news agency reported that Tibet had suffered its “worst snowstorm ever”. In the US, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration registered 63 local snowfall records and 115 lowest-ever temperatures for the month, and ranked it as only the 70th-warmest October in 114 years. Later, detailed analysis of the GISS data showed that scores of temperature records from Russia and elsewhere were not based on October readings at all. Figures from the previous month had simply been carried over and repeated two months running, causing false temperatures 10 degrees higher than actual across Russia.
In fact the hottest decade of the 20th century was not the 1990s, as alarmists claimed with their highly questionable date, but it was the 1930s.
You are being scammed out of your coal plants, folks.

Hank, to believe in AGW, one must first believe that everything causes AGW. For instance, you are ignorant of AWG science if you think ice cubes do not cause AGW.
Now replace ‘ice cubes’ with anything you like. Now you are not a denier.
“In fact the hottest decade of the 20th century was not the 1990s, as alarmists claimed with their highly questionable date, but it was the 1930s.”

Of course that is a false statement. We have debated ad nauseum the right of gays/lesbians to have all of the rights that everyone else does because that is the only fair thing to do.
Now you are trying to tell me that taxing someone at a higher percentage rate because they have more is ok. Just tell me how that is fair to the have mores.

Gun-rights group bristles at query on Barack Obama’s job-application questionnaire
Question suggests what president-elect’s mind-set is on weapons, says Illinois State Rifle Association leader
By James Janega | Tribune reporter
November 16, 2008
A 63-item questionnaire for prospective members of Barack Obama’s White House team has upset the Illinois State Rifle Association because it includes a question on firearms that the organization reads as hostile to gun owners.
“Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun?” asks Question 59. “If so, provide complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever lapsed? Please also describe how and by whom it is used and whether it has been the cause of any personal injuries or property damage.”
Richard Pearson, executive director of the ISRA, said Friday that the question was “a pointer of where they want to go” with gun-control policy.
“I thought it was pretty intrusive,” said Pearson, whose group voices the concerns of gun owners. “I think he’s going to talk like a centrist, but I think his activities are going to take him to the left, as far as gun control goes.”

Nice try bth. If you have to ask your employees questions that go beyond the requirements for the job, then you are illegally discriminating against them.
Whether someone legally owns guns or not, excercising a Constitutional Right at home, is none of Obama’s or the Government’s business in determining whether someone can be hired for a staff position.

If someone owns guns, reads Playboy, is Jewish or not, is not a basic job qualification for most jobs I know about.

And I thought ‘oh no’ I could never work for Obama. I bought 4 guns several years ago from a man I was working for. He needed the money and one of them was a really sweet 22 Crack Shot that I wanted. After I brought them home my husband pointed out that the serial numbers on one had been sanded off.
We did break that one down and destroy it but I still have the others and I can’t say for sure they weren’t involved in something shady.

You don’t have a clue do you crapn?
In the 1970s the country, sick of war, carelessly turned its back on its soldiers. Defense budgets dwindled from 6.9% of GNP in 1972, the last big- spending year of the Vietnam era, to 5% in 1980. Pressed for cash, the Pentagon cut back on banal but essential items like ammunition and training. Military pay fell so far behind civilian wages that the Pentagon had to flesh out the ranks with a raffish lot of high school dropouts. On some bases they were such a loutish crew that officers kept them in the background when Defense Secretary Harold Brown made inspection tours. By the time Reagan entered the White House, Congress was ready to oblige his campaign promise of a military buildup. Even Carter had belatedly recognized, , after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in December 1979, that the services had been neglected. He asked for an increase of 5.4% above inflation in the last defense budget he submitted. Congress added 3.6% to that, gave Reagan the 3% extra he asked for, and continued to increase military spending for the next four years, largess never before seen in peacetime.

Dear Hank,
If Avery is a “very credible source”, then what are the peer-reviewed scientists that Avery lists as support for his anti-AGW opinion?
Many (probably all) of the scientists that Avery lists DISAGREE with him.
Are those peer-reviewed scientists on Avery’s list, who are supposed to support his opinion, actually NOT credible?
And Nathan posted his opinion upthread.

You know, after reading this thread, I’ve determined that we need to cut military benefits. I used to think that they deserved to earn a pension, but after reading the aholes on this blog, I think they actually enjoyed being aholes. It was a perk of being in the military.
I suppose that since I’ve seena lot of blood and gore in my works too, that I deserve to have a lifelong pension and then point the finger at others who may not have had the ability or option to go into the military.
Apparently work isn’t work unless you’ve held a gun and wore fatigues. Theirs is more important than anyone. Perhaps instead of valiant duty, we need to downsize the size of these guy’s egos.

No, but I would have loved to have been a part of it. I saw Spirit One profiled on CNN today..under the heading “Ignorance in America”. I tried to call Spirit One today for my daily message to Pastor Mark…but their phones aren’t working. My hope is that outraged people are blowing up their phones. The good pastor seemed a bit stressed in his interview on CNN..and he’s starting to backtrack. If that church is smart, they’ll fire him. Looks like the “Church without walls” has built some pretty big ones with him in charge.
Poor ‘ole Fred Phelps isn’t even dead yet and Pastor Mark is trying to take his place!

Some of you posters would never have had a sperm donor.
“Being a nurse can be pretty challenging.”
Well for one thing, it’s just damn hard work and long hours. I dont know how you do it. When I was at St. Francis, they worked 12 hour shifts or more and ran their butts off evey minute. And always short handed with people not showing up or calling in.
Then when I was at OLOL, one charge nurse worked 24 hours straight with no sleep one night because she was the ONLY one on duty and EVERYONE of the patients was having a bad night. She was there until noon the next day finishing up the paperwork. What a saint. I was also sick as hell that night, and it took over an hour to have her answer the light, but I felt sorry for her, not me. Good thing I wasnt dying, just sick.
Most of the nurses who cared for me were around my age. I sure as hell couldnt do it AND remain compassionate and caring and on the ball at the same time.
And they have life and death responsibilities every minute of every shift. One wrong dose of meds, one unanswered call, one patient left alone one minute too long….
Like I said. You all are the real sheros. You all deserve at least twice as much money as you get.
Before I see a doc, I always consult my nurse friends and my local pharmacist. I get better care and advise from them than I do the docs.

What part of the numbers going up under Carter from Ford did you not understand?
But it does explain why you’re a CON . . . sheesh.
If I couldn’t see an increase when the numbers prove it, I’d be a CON too.
“Marry, maybe if some one was shooting at you ”
Aaaw Anti leave Mary alone. She’s a Florence Nightygail for gods sake. She’s a very conscience nurse who gives her full devotion to her patients.
If she is guilty of anything it’s being too close to the subject matter of health care. She can’t be objective, but that is because it’s the nature of her soul.
I don’t think she said anything derogatory about the military. At least not with intent.
Correct, KFG.
I don’t bash Christians.
I bash holier than thou fundamentalists who act like they’re the only Christians.
And I’ll continue to bash the hypocritical b@st*rds too.
Hee hee heeeeee.
I hope that waaaaaambulance has room for two in it. Both anti and grmie need a ride to the psych ward.
Mary’s husband is a vet. My dad and uncles were vets. I do honor honorable vets.
But some folks want their asses kissed four times a day and a lifetime of perks and snacks for doing what millions of other men and women did without complaining or wanting to be waited on hand and foot.
Get over it, like you love to tell me.
“Yep. Anti definately needs the waaaaaambulance.
IIRC, he’s a crazed Viet Nam vet.”
Hey Anti, how many VC ears on your belt?
Aaaw Anti leave Mary alone. She’s a Florence Nightygail for gods sake.

d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y [hick-up] sorry, I jeez kopied da postin of the farmgal.
Mary, Are you pleased with your new carpet?
Capn,
Don’t take it personal.
BTW, you got my butt on the SS tax.
But I can explain.
Hey Anti, how many VC ears on your belt?
===============
None, at the time I had a flagellum.
I think you are still on the level of one cell with a tail.
Swim away man, swim away….
Good luck gettin’ hitched farm freak, maybe you’ll have better luck using a man like ya did the first go-a-round.
“None, at the time I had a flagellum.”
God bless you. But they don’t understand. They can’t. They never will man.
Come on! And do the locomotion!
Belching helps.
“Mary I would be willing to bet that you make a whole lot more than these young men who are serving. Was there some reason you didn’t join the military when you were young then you too could get a military retirement”
Well, Okie…my husband spent 7 years in the military and we had 3 kids (the first when I was 18) and someone had to stay home and take care of them. I don’t disrepect veterans, I just know that most healthcare providers see horrible things everyday and don’t get so tramatized that they end up on disability. I think there are some vets who malinger in order to take advanage of the system. And it’s also pretty easy to blame your drug and alcohol addiction on PTSD.
Belching helps.

I just farted, that helped. Ok, I will hope the freaks feel the pain someday. But for today, I’ll tip one back!

————–
Come on, show me them big ole’ man teats BJ!!
Mary,
You melt my heart. My mom was an LPN worked hard to make RN. By worked that means also raised four boys while dad did what dads did in those days (which was nothing on the home front). I got a bro Doc’ and two sister-in-law RN’s, and a best bud who’s wife was crazy enough to be a senior RN in the ER.
Nuts!
But take your blinders off. The abuse of the system, or any system is not restricted to veterans. It’s all over the place.
The bums I step over when in the big city are no different with their heroin marks.
Every place people milk it. Don’t single one group out- over another.
“Mary, Are you pleased with your new carpet?”
I LOVE it!!! I worked my butt off these last few weeks getting everything ready. I had to repair and paint my ceilings, paint my walls “pebble stone”, stain and varnish my new windows and all my woodwork, and hang “waterfall” shades…it looks so nice. Tomorrow I’m getting my new furniture delivered!!!
Dave and I have a bet going on what will happen first…I think the cats will throw up on it and he says the grandkids will spill something. Anyway, I’m enjoying it while it still looks new!
Man teats?
Hell, ya gotta have BALLS first!!!!
Well you’re off to a fine start showing your ass and your ignoraced there “ANTII”
As many posters can tell you.
What else ya got sparky?
I just know that most healthcare providers see horrible things everyday and don’t get so tramatized that they end up on disability.
————
Some providers do. The reason most don’t is that they are in a basically controlled environment, they can concentrate on the job at hand without life threating occurrences every second to themselves.
See Anti?
How can you be mad at that?
“Hell, ya gotta have BALLS first!!!!”
You can help Bawksalot Boxlock look for his.
AM, you’re right…there others who abuse the system besides vets…but the military has their fair share.
The best thing for PTSD is work…but that’s the last thing many of them want to do. It’s so much easier to use your trama as an excuse not to function. I spent too much time in drug and alcohol treatment, and I really got sick of hearing it. I admit it made me somewhat cynical.
“What else ya got sparky?”
Well at least he has his own computer, and not a broken down broken dick hand out from XXX.
He also does not go to bed at night dreaming about SAVING THE WORLD, as JR posted upon his initial return with the hand-me-down PC.

I was joking BJ, stop flirting with me. I like the tacos, not the hot dogs. Jeez, can you believe this guy???
You did work hard! This was on top of three jobs, right? Those eveeel libaruls sure are leeches and drains on society. ;-) Glad you’re pleased, sounds super exciting! I’m always the first to “initiate” the new at my house. Then the cats and grandkids get in on the act.
Still perpetrating that hoax Hank?
My friend XXX helped me build a computer.
I’m sorry but not surprised to find you jealous of people with friends.
Well you’re off to a fine start showing your ass
====================
First off, you would need a weed eater to see my ass (got russian blood, kinda woolly), so better get the oil and gas mixed BJ, otherwise I will be warm and un-ass bearing this winter!
I hear Sarah Palin is getting 7 million dollars advance on her book.
I wonder who will write it for her?
And, will it come with crayons and stickers? Or maybe a pageant sash?
“I admit it made me somewhat cynical.”
You may be blue through and through. But gawd damn it! Your big freakin heart means well.
On one hand, you are involved intimately with healthcare problems Americans face every day.
You have compasssion.
On the other hand, you realize that people will MILK a government HANDOUT system.
Yet you want us all to be forced into public healthcare.
It’s a tough row to hoe.
I didn’t intend to come back but I pray everyday that as a nation we don’t let another generations of vets come home to a country that doesn’t respect them and appreciate their service to our country. I lived through this in the 60’s and still see the results in our homeless shelters and look it in the face when I visit the VA hospital.
Whatever anyone thinks we do owe these young men and women a debt of gratitude. When their worth is diminished then we as a nation lose stature.
That’s it for tonight. I do this for fun and a diversion. I shrug off personal attacks but I can’t sit by and watch what was happening here tonight.
Mary I appreciate your service and know how hard it can be. My best friend from high school is an RN in an oncology hospital in Georgia. She works in the pediatric unit and I have cried with her many times. She lost her own physician husband to cancer a year ago this month.
No matter how down she gets she doesn’t put down other part of society. She is so upbeat I don’t know how she does it. You and she have my admiration. I also thank your husband for serving.
You’re kidding, Bluejay, aren’t you? Someone is paying her for a book? Interesting. Will she tell all? Will that help or hinder future political ambitions?
“Some providers do. The reason most don’t is that they are in a basically controlled environment, they can concentrate on the job at hand without life threating occurrences every second to themselves.”
If you ever spent anytime in a emergency room or a psych ward…it’s not always so controlled. I had one of my patients jump out of a hospital window and break her back. I know of one patient who wrapped himself in toilet paper and set himself on fire (I was off that night, thank God…he died, BTW), another who hung himself with a bed sheet. I’ve found my patients dead, self mutilated, even tied up and covered with feces. Sometimes working in a hospital or out in the community seems like working in a war zone. In 20 years, I’ve seen plenty of crazy, stupid, and tragic stuff.
A preacher, really? WTF?

No that’s not what I want…I just want every American to have access to affordable, quality healthcare.

Well, GRANNY you lie again!!! Because I have been asked those questions… on apps… never in person…. Maybe not in those EXACT WORDS… but oh yea, Check out a SEARS App, or a Dillons App… or a Radio Shack App…. And variations of all of those questions are there… except for the FOUR I listed as distinctly illegal….
“You’re kidding, Bluejay, aren’t you?”
Nope, that is what I heard.
Admittedly, she is not the first to do this.
But WHAT does any publisher see interesting in Palin I don’t know. She was in the spotlight for what, 9 weeks?
But, I’m sure there’s enough of a market to at least make back the advance.
Oh how I HOPE so. And not so Sarah can sell books.
I rather like unified Democratic control of gevernment.
The extent of Chas’ experience with applications is with:

Mary,
How many minutes during each day did you realize, “This could be my last minute on this Earth”?
BJ do you dream about this woman at night:
You seem to be obsessed with her - this is the story you ‘heard’.
“Palin, who rallied conservatives when presidential candidate John McCain added her to the Republican ticket, could be the real prize, some experts say.
“There are half a dozen publishers that would zealously bid on a Palin book,” said Robert Weil, executive editor at W.W. Norton. “Some agents say she could sell for $7 million.”
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20081112/en_nm/us_usa_politics_books
Libs are so easy to fool.
“I didn’t intend to come back but I pray everyday that as a nation we don’t let another generations of vets come home to a country that doesn’t respect them and appreciate their service to our country. I don’t think that’s happening. We may disagree on the war, but we all support our troops. Whenever I fly somewhere and soldiers get on board, everyone applauds for them. I have never seen anyone disrespect a soldier.
Government too.
My right middle finger got mixed up with my left.
Using them both at the right ya know.

Hank, I dont doubt for one minute that you believe that is a credible source… I mean, after all, you think the entire creation is only about 8,000 years old!!
———————————-
When does the Christian preacher say the Earth was made?
Oh that’s right, Chas thinks we evolved from monkeys.
Well Mary I don’t think that is the message which is getting out.
Mary you DO know that many Americans, in fact MOST Americans have healthcare insurance.
I will not argue with you that every American needs quality healthcare.
But do not EVER mess up a good thing (which includes being treated by great doc’s and nursese like you) for those of us with insurance - in order to provide for those small numbers without.
Do not throw out the baby with the bath water.
Push that every American is able to show up in YOUR ER. YOUR medical ward, station, or floor.
We probably do disagree on the word “affordable”.
But to me that word is related to life itself.
Healthcare should be rightfully our most expensive expense. How much more is your life worth - than your 50,000 SUV or home?
I said it is what I heard okie.
I heard it from my mom. Wanna take a shot at her?
Like me, she can’t believe there are enough idiots in this country that would buy such a book.
“Mary,
How many minutes during each day did you realize, “This could be my last minute on this Earth”?”
LOL! Everyday when I drive Kellogg during rush hour!
…and sometimes when I venture into the ‘hood!
“But books weren’t Palin’s only opportunity to cash-in, with commentary spots on Fox and CNN also a possibility, The Post said.”
“However, Mr Rubenstein warned Palin against blindly chasing the cash.”
“She ought to keep an eye on what her goals are for 2012. If she plays a game and looks foolish, if she sounds like she doesn’t know what she’s talking about - like saying Africa is a country - she may talk herself out of a political job,” he said.”
http://www.canberratimes.com.au/news/world/world/general/palins-no-loser-with-11m-book-deal/1362216.aspx
JJ having been in management with a large company I attended plenty of HR seminars and can tell you for certain that none of the companies he noted would have anything even remotely like that on their applications. They all have much bigger HR dept than I was in and know what not to ask let alone put it in writing on an application.
Not even the libs on the board could back Chass on this one.

The problem is Chas didn’t qualify for any. Dillions was his last great hope. But they took one look at him, the acne scars, and saw he was not qualified to bring the carts back in from the parking lot.
Poor guy. Don’t push him too hard. This blog is his life. It is his fulfillment. Every man needs his ego stroked. This is the level for Chas.
This blog, and his left fist, are his fulfillment in life. Don’t take that away from him.
No American…there is a lot wrong with our healthcare system…so much I’m not willing to take the time to list everything that needs to change. And having insurance doesn’t neccesarily mean you’ll get the treatment you need either.
Suffice it to say that the whole system needs overhauled…because it’s in crisis and it’s not working anymore. I hope Obama can facilitate the change so that every American can have access to affordable health care.

You may not believe in God BJ, but you sure believe in the Devil.
Boogity boogity boo!!!!
As horrible as that bomb was and it was - its use saved tens of thousands of American lifes. We didn’t start that war. Truman was maligned for doing what he did at the time but history was much kinder to him. Research into dialogue between Japan and the US showed us that Japan was trying to make conditions of the surrender on their own terms. They refused to realize that they were very vulnerable if they continued this ill begotten war.
“The ambassador also demanded that Japan state concrete terms to end the war, otherwise the effort could not be taken seriously. Togo responded evasively that the “directing powers” and the government had authorized the effort–he did not and could not claim that the military in general supported it or that the fight-to-the-end policy had been replaced. Indeed, Togo added: “Please bear particularly in mind, however, that we are not seeking the Russians’ mediation for anything like an unconditional surrender.”
The book ‘Truman’ gives you a good sense of his thought processes at that time. It is a very good book on military strategies.
The job of prez has to be one of the worst jobs in the world. Who would want it?
Good night and Gawds blessing all. (Whatever you decide blessings mean and doesn’t offend)

JimJohn–
I lived in CHINA for a year. All the people I worked with had fled from Shanghai in front of the Japanese invasion.
I heard about Japanese atrocities first hand.
I didn’t say the A bomb drop was unnecessary, although knowing what we know now, it probably was. Eisenhower no less spoke out against having used it.
At the time though, it was total war, and I’m not naive enough to think that I would have opposed it if I were part of the war effort as I would have been AT THE TIME.
What is appalling is that anyone would rub the face of the Japanese in this horrible wanton destruction, whether deserved or not.
I heard about Japanese atrocities first hand.

No you didn’t Jackass.
you know, its awfully telling when germie says not a word about those horrid things Amway and Anti said.
But you jump down KFG and mary’s throats.
The point I was trying to make was that some of the guys on here act like they are some gods because they served. Thankfully not all vets act this way, some actually have some couth.
There are every day heros. Some people do work and don’t deserve the lot they are given. I also feel PTSD is real, not only in military, but in other areas too. They don’t get the help either.
Last night I watched the most sad story about a murderer on MSNBC, raised in a cult to be the leader of a sex cult, he was repeatedly raped and forced to molest his sisters and brothers and others in teh cult. He was so angry as an adult he decided killing them was the only way to get them to stop. He killed and then killed himself.
Yesterday when I said murder depends on why? That was a prime example. That kid should had been given a medal for what he endured and then exposed and ended.

Noted for future reference: conservative “humor” that yuks up about incinerating, melting and poisoning a few hundred thousand people.
Now, understand, I actually like macabre humor. But usually, in order for it to work, the joke lies in the absurdity of the situation. This “joke” appears to not have any irony or clever twist, other than taking pleasure in a horrific act of mass violence. Hmmm. Is that some type of self-referential parody, or is it just the boneheaded celebration of brutality it appears?
Hey, American Way, heard any good 9-11 jokes lately? Or how about this: Did you know that Nick Berg found out, all too late, that he could sing falsetto?!
Yuk Yuk Yuk.
Goodnite everyone, and have sweet dreams of Hope.
Each day going forward will be even more glorious then the last!
Obama will soon build his own kingdom, right here on Earth!
I am so inspired and filled with optimism at the hope the future now brings.
Everynight before I go to sleep, I read this. Obama inspires me oh so much!
“I should like to help everyone if possible; Christian, Jew, Muslim, Buddhist, black men, white, red, and yellow. We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each others’ happiness, not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone. And the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way.
Greed has poisoned men’s souls; has barricaded the world with hate; we live in misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Industry that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge as made us cynical; our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than wealth we need humanity. More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost. Modern communications and technology have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in man; cries out for universal brotherhood; for the unity of us all.
Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world, millions of despairing men, women, and little children, victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people. To those who can hear me, I say “Do not despair.” The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed, the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish.
Soldiers! Don’t fight for slavery! Fight for liberty! In the seventeenth chapter of St. Luke, it’s written “the kingdom of God is within man”, not one man nor a group of men, but in all men! In you! You, the people, have the power, the power to create prosperity, the power to create happiness! You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure. Then in the name of democracy, let us use that power.
Let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world, a decent world that will give men and women a chance to work, that will give youth a future and old age a security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfill their promise. They never will! Evil rulers free themselves but they enslave the people! Now let us fight to fulfill that promise! Let us fight to free the world! To do away with national barriers! To do away with greed, with hate and intolerance! Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men’s happiness.
Citizens of the world, in the name of democracy, let us all unite!
People can you hear me? Wherever you are, look up! The clouds are lifting! The sun is breaking through! We are coming out of the darkness into the light! We are coming into a new world; a kind new world, where men and women will rise above their hate, their greed, and brutality. Look up! The soul of mankind has been given wings and at last he is beginning to fly. He is flying into the rainbow. Into the light of hope! Into the future! The glorious future! That belongs to you, to me, and to all of us. Look up, everyone! Look up!”
“Who really would want to meet a flag burner anyway?”
Oh I should think you would. To tell me off?
“. I have no desire to meet with you and this tactic invitations of yours is ridiculous.”
I borrowed the tac from Hank, who I have met many times.
“And you may now hop off your high horse and quit accusing others of nic switching when you have done the same.”

Everything can be joked about.
I once wrote an Auschwitz joke on a dare.
I remember when those sick Dead Baby jokes were popular. Junior High, as I recall.
They were a genre like the “Mommy Mommy” jokes of my older sisters’ generation.
“Mommy, Mommy! I’m running around in circles!”
“Shut up or I’ll nail the other foot to the floor.”
There are all sorts of yardsticks for “tasteless” jokes.
The key is, Are they funny?
Hell, it’s late at night and everyone’s gone to bed.
So here’s a tangent –

Everything can be joked about.
Agreed. Upon further reflection, I suppose the humor in this case, such as it is, lies in the mundane use of the word “tested”, implying something very routine when in fact what took place was, well, somewhat less than routine! Hence the absurdity. Not a great joke, but I get it. Something like the “Black Death, European Tour” t-shirts.
I suppose my judgment was clouded somewhat by an ugly, decidedly non-humorous subtext, which was enhanced by the self-report of wearing the shirt in Japan. But even that could have been just an unfortunate choice of attire rather than a deliberate provocation.
P.S. MH, you’re right–I went to bed, too. I just didn’t sleep. :(

“Yet you want us all to be forced into public healthcare.”
No that’s not what I want…I just want every American to have access to affordable, quality healthcare

Amen, Mary.
KFG, if your not busy I have a civilized question for you.
ksfarmgrrl: my humble apologies. I was careless in not checking out a little more of the previous blogging before posting. I’ll be more careful in the future.
