Here’s the difference between scientists and creationists. When Darwin challenged the current theory of the day, Lamarkian evolution, he actually went out and did research. On the other hand creationists don’t present other theories, they just whine and demand equal time to air their theology alongside the irrefutable fact of evolution.
Darwin’s specimens go on display
Two mockingbirds, which are said to have helped Charles Darwin develop his theory on evolution, are to go on public display for the first time.
The specimens, gathered by Darwin from the Galapagos, are said to be the “catalyst” for his transmutation theory – how one species changes into another.
A variety of differences between the specimens led to him questioning the “stability of species”.
The birds will go on show at London’s Natural History Museum next week.

Sarah Palin Leaker Outs Himself…and Turns Out to Be a Hoaxer!
By P.J. Gladnick (Bio | Archive)
November 10, 2008 – 17:35 ET
(Check out the update below. Apparently this “leaker” is actually a hoaxer. Did Carl Cameron get scammed with completely false information? I have now added video of the person who claims to be “Martin Eisenstadt” that was uploaded to YouTube on October 28. Why do I have the feeling that this person is a leftwing Democrat engaging in Web guerilla warfare?)
The leaker who “revealed” to Carl Cameron of FOX News that Sarah Palin didn’t know that Africa was a continent or which nations were in the North American Free Trade Agreement has outed himself. First of all the leaker turned out not to be Mitt Romney nor one of his associates as some have suspected. More importantly, the leaker’s own revelation does not show that Sarah Palin didn’t know that Africa was a continent nor that she didn’t know which countries were in the NAFTA. Okay, so who is the leaker? Drum roll please, maestro! And the leaker is….Martin Eisenstadt, a McCain campaign adviser. Eisenstadt revealed himself to be the leaker and his reasons for leaking in his blog:

From your link:
The “hoaxer” “… was one of the foreign policy advisers on the McCain campaign who worked with Randy Scheunemann to help prep Sarah on her debate with Joe Biden. Did we outright give her a geography quiz when we started the prep? No, of course not. But yes, in the context of the prep, it slowly became apparent that her grasp of basic geo-political knowledge had major gaps. Could she have passed a multiple choice test about South Africa or NAFTA. Probably. But it was clear that she simply didn’t have the ease of knowledge that we come to expect from a major party political candidate. Other slights came up, too: Not knowing the difference between Hezbollah and Hamas. Or the difference between the Shiites and Suni. Or when it came to international terrorist organizations, knowing that the IRA was in Northern Ireland, and ETA in Spain.”

Hank – I think it’s next week that Golden Corral is giving free dinner to vets. And today at the Lords Diner they are honoring vets.
true, bth…course, there are many people we serve at the Lord’s Diner all year who claim to be vets. Funny thing, when you ask them their MOS, they have no clue.
Of course, the Lord’s Diner never turns away anyone. It just bugs me to hear people claiming military service who never wore a uniform.
“…when you ask them their MOS, they have no clue.”
That is me. I understand rate and rating but MOS means nothing to me.
Hey Dems and Libs. Bush made the Messiah a big welcome to the White House, that’s a lot better than what happened with the Clinton’s. They trashed the place and stole items of value and had to return it. Bill, did not want to leave and acted with the immature person he is.

Yeah, but they’re not the fake claimants of the Medal of Honor and other awards of honor. Most of those guys were in the military in one way or another, but are so sick or evil to commit fraud.
Although not a claimant of the MoH, a guy I went to high school perpetrated frauds against veterans in Arkansas a few years ago.
Here’s a concise summary of his actions.

I don’t remember my MOS. I’ll bet about half of the troops with service decades in the past don’t.
Here’s the story of a veteran that needs to be remembered every year.
Wilfred Owen (1893-1918)
Wilfred Edward Salter Owen was born on March 18, 1893. He was on the Continent teaching until he visited a hospital for the wounded and then decided, in September, 1915, to return to England and enlist. “I came out in order to help these boys– directly by leading them as well as an officer can; indirectly, by watching their sufferings that I may speak of them as well as a pleader can. I have done the first” (October, 1918).
Owen was injured in March 1917 and sent home; he was fit for duty in August, 1918, and returned to the front. November 4, just seven days before the Armistice, he was caught in a German machine gun attack and killed. He was twenty-five when he died.
The bells were ringing on November 11, 1918, in Shrewsbury to celebrate the Armistice when the doorbell rang at his parent’s home, bringing them the telegram telling them their son was dead.
Here’s one of his poems from the front –
The Parable of the Old Man and the Young
So Abram rose, and clave the wood, and went,
And took the fire with him, and a knife.
And as they sojourned both of them together,
Isaac the first-born spake and said, My Father,
Behold the preparations, fire and iron,
But where the lamb for this burnt-offering?
Then Abram bound the youth with belts and strops,
And builded parapets and trenches there,
And stretched forth the knife to slay his son.
When lo! an angel called him out of heaven,
Saying, Lay not thy hand upon the lad,
Neither do anything to him. Behold,
A ram, caught in a thicket by its horns;
Offer the Ram of Pride instead of him.
But the old man would not so, but slew his son,
And half the seed of Europe, one by one.

Thanks for the link. How sad that someone must fake their service in order to feel important. I am glad he has been stripped of his vfw status, and should face charges accordingly.

No Truth in Clinton White House Vandal Scandal, GSA Reports
by David Goldstein
WASHINGTON — The General Services Administration has found that the White House vandalism flap earlier this year was a flop.
The agency concluded that departing members of the Clinton administration had not trashed the place during the presidential transition, as unidentified aides to President Bush and other critics had insisted.
Responding to a request from Rep. Bob Barr, a Georgia Republican, who asked for an investigation, the GSA found that nothing out of the ordinary had occurred.
“The condition of the real property was consistent with what we would expect to encounter when tenants vacate office space after an extended occupancy,” according to a GSA statement.
No wholesale slashing of cords to computers, copiers and telephones, no evidence of lewd graffiti or pornographic images. GSA didn’t bother to nail down reports of pranks, which were more puckish than destructive.
Among those pranks was the apparent removal, by aides to former President Bill Clinton, of the “w” key from some computer keyboards and the placing of official-looking signs on doors, saying things like “Office of Strategery,” after a popular “Saturday Night Live” spoof on Bush.
But the vandal scandal, tales of torn up offices and items stolen from the presidential jet, was the hottest story in town during the early days of the Bush administration until White House furniture and last-minute pardons pushed it off the front page.
“I think it was this calculated effort to plant a damaging story,” said Alex S. Jones, director of the Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard University. “There was a sort of fertile ground for believing anything bad.”
Typical was Tony Snow, a syndicated columnist and former presidential speech writer for President Bush’s father, who wrote that the White House “was a wreck.” He also said that Air Force One, after taking Clinton and some aides to New York following the inauguration, “looked as if it had been stripped by a skilled band of thieves — or perhaps wrecked by a trailer park twister.”
*******
Proving once again that 1. if Bush said it, it’s a lie and 2. if the right-wing wants to believe it, they will believe it, the truth be damned.

Subject: Those Marines
I wonder how many times during Operation Iraqi Freedom that the phrase “******* Marines” was uttered? Even in the best of times, Army and Air
Force officers have been heard muttering some epithet about Marines, invoking either heaven or hell. Interestingly enough, we Marines find it
all rather reassuring and, at times, amusing.
Most of the time, Marines do not go out of our way to be obnoxious; we are just doing what Marines have done for over 200 years. A good example is the fact that Marines always raise the American flag over mountains or cities
they have conquered. From Mt. Suribachi to the City of Hue, to Kuwait City to Baghdad, U.S. Marines have raised the Stars and Stripes — in the latter examples, much to the chagrin of higher headquarters. You don’t get these
kinds of problems with the army.
So what is it about the U.S. Marines that they stick U.S. flags on everything and do more with less, a less that is either old or an army
hand-me-down? We call it Esprit de Corps , but it goes deeper than that. We learn and maintain myths of the past, which also means living
up to those historical examples. Marine Corps boot camp is the longest of the
services; it is where we mold young men and women into the mythical image called a Marine. You can be in the Army, you can join the Air Force, but
you become a Marine. All of the other uniformed services have songs; the U.S. Marines have a hymn. The basic pattern of Marine Corps uniforms
comes from the late nineteenth century; our emblem “the Eagle, Globe and Anchor”
has remained largely unchanged since 1868. The buttons on our dress blues, whites and greens date back to the founding of our corps. The Marine
Corps is the only service that requires its officers to carry a sword, whose pattern dates back to 1805.
I think that the path of being a Marine was established long ago. On the 10th of November 1775, the Marine Corps was first established…in a tavern. To this day, no matter where in the world, Marines celebrate the founding of
our beloved Corps, much to the confusion of the other services.
A few years ago, a congresswoman from Colorado felt that the Marine Corps was radical and extreme. She contended that the Marine Corps was not politically correct, nor did we seem to be part of the Department of Defense’s transition to a “kinder and gentler” military. She was correct,
and the Marine Corps took it as a compliment.
But the proof is in the doing, and during Iraqi Freedom the Marines demonstrated what Marines can do. I watched with some amusement as a
reporter asked a young lance corporal about being in Iraq and under rifle fire. “Love it, sir!” was his response. The reporter was taken aback and
asked, “No, really.” The Marine then tried to explain that this is what he was trained to do, he looked forward to doing it and was now happy to be doing it. No doubt in boot camp he was told that he was “a minister of death praying for war.” Contrast that with the poor U.S. Army Apache
pilots who said that if they had to take life, they would do so reluctantly.
You are either a warrior or you are not.
Marines are mission oriented. Live or die, the most important thing to a Marine is accomplishing the mission. Whether taking the bridge, river or
town, accomplishing the mission is the Holy Grail of being a Marine. How the mission is accomplished is not so important, as it is expected of all Marines to accomplish the mission with the tools available. This is probably why we heard that Marines in one engagement were fighting with knives and bayonets. This was hardly high tech, but it was effective. These Marines now have bragging rights, for
they have proven that they talk-the-talk and walk-the-walk. I doubt there is a single Marine who is not envious.
Marines are practical, as well. I enjoyed hearing two reporters interviewing each other, one embedded with the army, the other with the
Marines. The reporter with the army noted that the sandstorm had blown down many of the soldiers’ cots. The other reporter countered that the Marines did not have this problem because they slept on the ground. The Marine
learns to live with what he can carry on his back. He expects to be moved around on the battlefield via his two black Cadillacs (boots). If he is lucky and gets a ride on an amtrack, so much the better — but it is not expected. At the end of a mission, the priority for cleaning is weapon, then equipment, and finally, body. When the other services talk about “quality of life,” they are referring to housing, clubs and food.
Marines are talking about better weapons, equipment and training, winning the
battle and coming home alive is considered “quality of life.”
All of this translates into combat power. In comparison to the U.S. Army’s
3 rd Infantry Division, the Marines of I Marine Expeditionary Force were lightly equipped. Yet, they battled through the heart of Iraq, fought to
the center of Baghdad and then moved off to Tikrit, taking that city as well. The press was so enamored with the Marines that in the final days of the war they even credited the Marines with deeds actually accomplished by
the army. Little wonder we heard “******* Marines!” so often.
So we need to give the Marines some slack when they do something politically incorrect, such as raising the flag or appearing insensitive
when killing the enemy. In the field, they look sloppy compared to the army, but are aggressive in the attack and generally unhappy in the
defense.
Marines take pride in their work, even if that work is war. We are just Marines and that is what we do.

McCain, the ‘lesser democrat’.
No apology from George about spreading lies and misinformation?
I am shocked, shocked I tell you.
At the 11th minute of the 11th hour on Nov.11, 1918 the guns fell silent in Western Europe. France had lost 1.2 million dead, the UK 700,000, her Empire in Australia/New Zealand with 5 million total population lost 50,000 and Canada with 7 million citizens sold lost 65,000 dead. Germany lost 2 million dead. The UK became a soclialist nation thereafter, never again would a Brit fight for the “Upper Class”, France was lost for 2 generations resulting the decline and fall of their 5th Republic, the Empire stopped looking to the homeland for it had been too expensive to answer Britain’s bidding, resulting in the break up of the Empire, as Germany sank into National Socialism. Except in Bavaria where the first Soviet outside Russia was founded, and there was a real chance that Communism might take over governments in all of the above…by legal elected methods, so bad was the memory of the capitalists’ war. The Allies said never again, no more war, never again and they meant it and this was on the mind of those at Munich 20 years later, we must understand that when judging the Munich Agreement. I lost an uncle,my wife a grandfather, but my old man made it home and died with German lead in his leg 45 years later.
Phillip, I thought “The Scream” was more appropriate, hehe! But I’ll take the change as a gentle hint.
Sounds like bush wants to link help for the auto industry with the Columbia free trade deal, what an American!
We as taxpayers are spending $Billions$ bailing out mis-managed financial institutions and greedy corporate execs who are STILL attending seminars in lavish expensive hotels.
How much would it cost to bring our veterans home with a little dignity and respect, allowing them to be properly cared for with some hope of returning to a home and a means to make a decent living?
This is not a liberal or conservative issue… it is an issue of Pride in America and simple decency and moral obligation.

Sam and Rage–
Sorry, no can do.
I’m sure that most vets would rather DIE than accept more tax-payer help.
Just ask James McCluer.
If he accepts “socialized medicine,” that means Lenin has won.
Sam and Rage this is something I hope we can all agree on. They have served valiantly and deserve the best care so they back to as normal a life as we can give them.
This crosses party lines. They earned the right to this care. We aren’t giving them anything more than their employment contract with the US promised them.
For those who go back to the time before your SSN was your Service Number (like me), how many of us remember our Service Number?

Why should they have to work for it? It should be free. Paid for by cheap immigrant labor plucking $20 bills off those money trees.

“Seems to me those that served remember their MOSs quite well. Me thinks there be a liar in our midst.”
I do not now know, nor did I ever know, my MOS. My rating was ETR2 Electronics Technician Radar, 2nd class. as far as I know, the Navy didn;t use them back then (1973-1977). Perhaps they did. It was never used as a designation by anyone, save perhaps the beancounters. WHen you called the detailers, for possible duty stations, you gave your rating, not some number. My experience anyway. Perhaps you would like to counter my experience with something because I don’t know a freaking mos?
Hmmm. . .

Is that enough numbers? I’m pretty sure of the first five. It changed to SSN in 1966, I think!
My 82 year old father remembers his service number, for me, it was my social security number.
Any how many of these Libs have any respect for those who serve?
Voting to send them to Iraq, then voting to have them surrendor to die for nothing.

Hey littlejohn,
You had a NEC if you were a ET. I started out as a ETR in my youth. Changes to just ET when you made first class.
Some NECs you get from ‘A’ School others you need to qualify for. To get a 3363 you need to qualify top watch on a submarine nuc plant.
They’ve changed the NEC codes since I retired, I have no clue what they are now.
I started out as an 1833, now I am a 2111.
I also have the 8531 MOS as well.

Depends on what branch, Hank. I was in from 1970-1972 and I started with a service number. Being part of the transition and in typical Marine Corps fashion, for a while my service number was the old service number + SSN. God-awful long thing!
If I posted my Service Number, you’d have part of the password to most of my stuff, LOL!
“They earned the right to this care.”
Okay, fine.
But no one has ever made the case that people who work at productive jobs that are just as important as military service haven’t “earned the right” to not die in the street in the richest country of the world.
The fact is that military service is the closest thing to socialism we’ve got in this country–you sign up, and the government provides you clothes, haircuts, food, lodging, transportation and medical care . . . all on the taxpayer’s dime.
Even booze is subsidized.
Thank God for people like James McCluer who live their beliefs and refuse to take government help.
If I posted my SSN you’d have the secret numerical code to every thing I own!
And the one who criticizes the health coverage provided for Veterans, of course, SURPRISE!, is not a Veteran.
Capn may not care about Veterans Day, but he sure as hell celebrates May Day.
HLP-
I spent 6 weeks in San Diego for basic electronics school, then nearly a year at TI getting my ET rating. Graduated as ETR3. Left the service as ETR2. Funny thing is, my last class at TI was for repairing and calibrating radiac instruments. Spent about 6 months doing that, then rest of my time on a sub tender doing multiple tasks, leaving as a Radiological Controls Shift Supervser (RCSS), qualified at all stations.
I almost forgot–the taxpayer also funds higher education or vo tech training.
Most of the people I know that enlisted just signed up so they could afford college.
Nothing wrong with that, more power to them.
But it is socialism, just the same.
I’m not criticizing health coverage for vets, JamesM.
Not at all.
I’m just calling it what it is in fact: socialism.
To you, that’s criticism. Not to me.
I recently heard on NPR that 20% of discharged Iraqi vets are unemployed. That’s just pitiful!
Thought you folks might want to see how the so called “tolerance” folks
react when things don’t go their way. Pay particular attention to the part where they rip the cross out of the 80 year old ladies hand and stomp on it, as if they could destroy what it stands for.
Also please note that the television station in Palm Springs has deleted the video from their website. It is only on myspace.com that I was able to find it.
http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=46239352
And when I got out, most families with children qualified for food stamps, the pay was so poor. And the medical care was atrocious because military doctors couldn;t be sued for malpractice. SO I guess it’s a good example of how porrly socialism works, if you want to consider it socialism. I don’t, but go right ahead.
LJ,
My rating was ETR2 Electronics Technician Radar, 2nd class.
That would be your MOS with a different title. Military Oriented Skill. I was not referencing you. You remember your ‘rating’. That is the point. The post was directed to –

Maggotpunk,
Thank you for more proof of micro-evolution. Now if only you would get around to showing any shred of real proof for all life developing from some “original life” that you just assumed came into existence.
CapnAmerica,
When you sign a contract to do a job and one of the bonuses is additional money for school, that is not socialism.
I have always thought that ANY veteran of military service — war or not — should be provided with health care for life as a benefit for serving (for all honorably discharged, that is)… Maybe, under Obama, that could happen… :-)
I never realized how long my serial number was until I had to unmask in a CS chamber and slowly repeat it forwards and backwards.
And for spouses and children threough age 18, or untill they complete higher education(of whatever form) — figure a slight co-pay… AFTER the veteran is discharged… FULL coverage during service time…
Boeing provides Healthcare, retirment benefits, money for education, enough pay for housing, etc. Must be socialism.
May Day, for those ignorant of history, has been a day for communist groups to celebrate their message of class warfare and false promises of hope and change in bringing about a workers paradise.
If you read the fanatical facist posts from Capn’s lil buddy Chas yesterday (Open thread), you will see someone with limited capacity who is clearly brainwashed into the movement, purely on the basis of platitudes and vague promises of something better for you.
May Day then, is more important to some here then Veterans Day. Big news items there I know.
My wife does work at the overflow shelter – she tells me a lot of her clients are vets – primarily war vets, not peacetime vets. A lot of the VietNam vets are still fighting their demons and ’self-medicating’ with booze.
Chas,
While you are actively serving you and your familiy do receive full medical coverage.
I prefer THIS May Day:
Traditional May Day celebrations
May Day marks the end of the winter half of the year in the Northern hemisphere, and it has traditionally been an occasion for popular and often raucous celebrations, regardless of the locally prevalent political or religious establishment.
As Europe became Christianized the pagan holidays lost their religious character and either changed into popular secular celebrations, as with May Day, or were replaced by new Christian holidays as with Christmas, Easter, and All Saint’s Day. In the start of the twenty-first century, many neopagans began reconstructing the old traditions and celebrating May Day as a pagan religious festival again.

Again, he proves my point. Capn you see, does not believe that Veterans EARN their benefits by serving their country and putting their lives on the line.
Oh no, not earned at all.
And he gets confused easily, you see, Capn thinks Socialism is something other then getting something for nothing. He somehow thinks people EARN something by doing nothing.
And of course, Capn thinks being a Veteran and serving your Country, is doing nothing.
Feinstein is advising her colleagues to follow a policy that she has put in place to verify the identification of those requesting tickets.

When you sign a contract to do a job and one of the bonuses is additional money for school, that is not socialism.
*****
It is when it’s tax-payer funded.
Sorry.
When the gov’t compels money from me and gives it to you, that’s socialism.
Having a flag waving behind you and a chest full of medals doesn’t change that simple reality.
Next, Capn will say that funding police and fire departments is Socialism.
But again, Capn gets confused by the differene between something that is paid for by taxpayers and benefits all, and something that is paid for by taxpayers and benefits a few.
Remember, I’m not calling it a bad thing that we give vets benefits.
We should give them MORE benefits, IMHO.
But it IS socialism.
Just a fact.
difference
Capn..
These veterans have paid the price for what they receive. Yes, I would prefer that private and faith-based entities would step up and provide for the needs of veterans and their families. But at the same time, they need better pay for what they do. The cost of these people becoming substance abusers and eventually homeless far outweighs the costs of helping them re-enter into the workforce and becoming productive civilians.
What “tickets”????
Providing for the Common Defense is the Primary duty and role of Government.
Free magic fairies don’t provide that service.
Our soldiers do. And they are due pay and benefits for the work they perform on behalf of all of us.
And National Defense benefits all of us, even Capn himself.
But again, Capn gets confused, and jealous, that he sees some Veteran working, and thinks that Veteran is just working from himself – and not providing service to others, and to the country.
I told you, Capn has no respect for Veterans.

Alas, confusion and lack of mental capacity is confirmed.
By all means, stop the scalpers from selling Inauguration tickets… What a giant rip off that would be…
What is the fuss?? You need photo ID to pick up tickets for an NFL, or NBA, or MLB, or NHL sporting event… if ordered in advance…
Why not for the Inauguration??
Chas too, gets confused by the differene between something that is paid for by taxpayers and benefits all, and something that is paid for by taxpayers and benefits a few.
Chas looks in the mirror and does not see that he is a Socialist. But as you can all see, he doesn’t even know the difference.
Change I can believe in
“Obama has promised to lift limits that President George W. Bush tightened on Cuban-Americans wanting to visit and send money to relatives. He also says he’s open to a dialogue with Raul Castro — something the Cuban president has indicated he would welcome.
If Obama really wants to force the Castros to open up, he should push Congress to eliminate the embargo altogether, and allow Americans to freely travel to Cuba, said Smith. “Lifting travel and remittance restrictions on Cuban-Americans just doesn’t get to the heart of the problem.”"
Oops, not going to get real change:
“So far, Obama has said he supports the embargo”
Both quotes from:

CapnAmerica,
The mere fact that the government uses your tax dollars to pay for military service is not the definition of socialism.
Paying Police Officers, Teachers, Firemen, and Politicians is not socialism.
It is a contract you the tax payers have made with someone to provide a service for you.
That is not socialism at all. By any definition.
Socialism:
1. a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.
2. procedure or practice in accordance with this theory.
3. (in Marxist theory) the stage following capitalism in the transition of a society to communism, characterized by the imperfect implementation of collectivist principles.

Or do you wonder why I would even say such a thing?
If Obama says, “I won’t take your guns away”, then don’t you wonder why he is saying that?
And, by the way, what IS the comparison between the number of Chicago Police/Fire officers killed last year, and the number of soldiers killed last year in Iraq/Afghanistan??
Anybody know??
I know Chas, you don’t know the difference.
And I don’t have the time or the patience to explain everything to you.
If you don’t know if a policeman, fireman, or armyman provides a service to all of us or not, then only God can help you now.
Oh, and what’s the comparison in murder rates in Chicago (which has extreme gun control laws) vs say Dallas, TX (which as concealed carry)?

I have always thought that ANY veteran of military service — war or not — should be provided with health care for life as a benefit for serving (for all honorably discharged, that is)… Maybe, under Obama, that could happen… :-)

Well, folks… we are all veterans of some kind of battle…. TODAY, we remember those veterns who served our nation…
I dont think much more can be said for today…
Whahahah, Here’s your man, guys…
WASHINGTON — A Republican congressman from Georgia said Monday he fears that President-elect Obama will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist dictatorship.
“It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he’s the one who proposed this national security force,” Rep. Paul Broun said of Obama in an interview Monday with The Associated Press. “I’m just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may _ may not, I hope not _ but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism.”
First of all, I don’t think that the issue is if Obama is going to take our guns away.
Usually, that is the most extreme case.
What the liberals do first is to prevent us from buying certain types of guns and restrict many others.
They might not try to take what we do have, but they will stop us from getting anything else.
“Whahahah, Here’s your man, guys…

Not my guy, sorry. Too much bs. Buth then, Obamas statement did show a bit of political naivete, in my opinion. Good or bad, we will wait and see
Awww nuts, DavidB… we went through that nonsense last night!! Not again!!
Give that congressman more caffeine, and wake him up!!!
Another example of how “socialism” in the words of CapnAmerica, hurts the little guy.
“The Department of Defense (DoD) pharmacy panel proposed moving certain blood glucose test strips and overactive bladder medication to a $22 co-pay from the current $9 copay. DoD will notify all beneficiaries currently taking the medications of the increase so alternative medications can be considered.”

Paying Veterans for services rendered is NOT Socialism.
YET, Capn Chas see this as some sort of handout Socialist program, and they are jealous because they aren’t getting the “free socialist” veterans benefits, even though Capn Chas did nothing to earn Veterans benefits.
Capn Chas, Hope things will Change, and that they will soon get Something for Nothing.
As for me, a special THANK YOU to all the Veterans out there, and at least some of us understand what you do and have done for all of America, and that you have more then EARNED whatever pay and benefits you receive now for your years of service to the United States of America.
“Thank you for more proof of micro-evolution. Now if only you would get around to showing any shred of real proof for all life developing from some “original life” that you just assumed came into existence.”
I remember a thread about this once. You can’t properly define the difference between “micro” aand “macro” evolution, can you? It’s basically micro if you agree with it, and macro if it’s too difficult for you to comprehend. We never pinned down what a “kind” is, since you say it’s impossible for evolution to turn one “kind” into another “kind”.
I’ve been lurking for nearly a year now, and I’m still amazed you’re pulling the whole “Waah no one’s shown me proof of evolution before!” I’m starting to think you’re being deliberately dishonest!

Tara I have a serious question for you. The difference in the birds is called micro evolution. I have a small lake in my backyard. We have several of those nasty geese that few people like. One of the geese has an orange beak. The others are very mean to him. Reminds me of the ugly duckling story.
Now my question is this micro evolution or inbreeding with a different species?

Correction:
Tara, GET THE HELL OFF OF MY LEAVES!
I read this a long time ago. I think a congressman came up with it.
We could control guns by controlling the ammuntion. Somehow each bullet could be tagged internally or microstamped with an identifying number matching a number on each box. When the box is purchased, the number would be recorded in some way, with information about the purchaser. No restrictions would be placed on how much you buy. People who can’t legally buy firearms also couldn’t buy ammo. Transferring ammo would be a felony. If a marked bullet is found at a crime scene, you’d bust the ass of ther person who bought the ammo in the first place.
You could still reload, but only with marked bullets sold in 50 packs. Now then, I know people make their own bullets, but I wouldn’t worry about that too much, as I doubt most criminals would bother.

Michelle has a jaw line like a bull frog, with bear trap teeth. CHOMP!
The question is: Is Tiffany a wolf?
If not, evolution is proven.
I know Hank but I have to be even handed if I expect the libs to do the same. No she doesn’t get her dresses off a rack. The black and red number was designer and made to her specifications. A higher neckline. They showed the original on the runway.
I know libs aren’t honest in most instances but we can’t let ourselves be pulled down we have to pull them up.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Socialism: a system of social organization that advocates distribution of capital (i.e., money or wealth) for the community as a whole.
First off, this negates McCluer’s false argument that socialism only benefits the few at the expense of the many.
Second, it firmly places public education, highway spending, social security, medicare, gov’t sponsored research, subsidies, police and fire protection and yes, the military within the definition of socialism.
*****
Also, McCluer claims that it is a gov’t responsibility to “provide for the common defense.”
True. But The Constitution does not require that we have a standing army nor that we spend more on our military than all the other militaries in the world combined . . .
The current socialized military is only one form that “providing for the common defense” could take.
Hey Rage,
I suppose you’re right, heaven only knows what she thinks conservative means, she’s having a problem with Macro evolution.

This man needs to know early on that private meeting are just that and he needs to control his staff and his mouth.

*****
Okay, feel free to keep saying it, McCluer.
But it is socialism.
The gov’t takes taxpayer’s money and spends it on their behalf.
It doesn’t matter if the money is going to a hard-working grunt on the front lines or a welfare queen who’s job is churning out babies.
The gov’t takes tax money from those earning income(capital) and spends it in ways that it tries to justify as benefitting society.
Socialism.

Obama Restricts Lobbyists
AP
President-elect Obama’s aides are announcing new rules to govern the conduct of lobbyists during the transition to power, including steps to limit their involvement in areas where they have sought to influence policy in the past year.
According to John Podesta, a top transition aide, federal lobbyists will be prohibited from any lobbying while they are at work on the transition.
Also, if anyone involved in the transition later becomes a lobbyist, they would not be able to lobby the new administration for one year on matters on which they worked for the president-elect.
The rules also stipulate that federal lobbyists may not contribute financially to the transition.

When you personally pay for something, it’s not socialism.
When the gov’t takes tax dollars for you and spends it on your behalf for the common good, it’s socialism.
What the CONs like you OKObs are doing is trying to say that spending tax dollars on the military is not socialism but spending it on helping poor moms feed their children (food stamps) is socialism.
Sorry.
It’s exactly the same thing.
It matters not whether one pays the mom with food stamps to give to the grocer or gives the money directly to the grocer to give free food to the mom (pay for services rendered).
It’s still socialism, spending tax dollars on a gov’t program.
The US military is the biggest gov’t program in the entire world.
Just because you like it doesn’t mean it’s not socialism.
It is said that men are gripped by fear’ and fear, by nature is the enemy of thought. Since the beginning, man has had fear–a primitive emotion. No doubt, fear, along with passion, prejudice and neurosis spring from ignorance and take the form of myths and illusions.
The original of all great and lasting societies consisted of the mutual fear that the group shared. Fear had to do with the unknown and the known. It sprang up in the hearts of men as dangers arose. In fact, the ancient Romans stated how important fear was. “Primus in orbe deos facit timor” [it was fear that first in the world made Gods]. Fear was a major factor in the raids and slaughter by early tribes against the “Other.” Fear arose when someone was different [color of skin, slant of eyes, hair, etc.]. It became apparent that of all the forms of tyranny over the mind of man, none is more terrible than fear. It became the main source of superstition and one of the main sources of cruelty.
In America, many people were victims of fear. Fear played havoc with society as lynchings, mob violence, laws of discrimination, separate facilities all led to a country of contradictions. How shallow the expression “All men are created equal.” The very idea that a person of color would run for the highest office of the land was out of the question! Would the majority of Americans choose this particular candidate and get over their fears?
There are people who remember the horror of the “Great Depression” and the fear it initiated. It took a president to announce that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
Just maybe; we are now confronting our fears and are able to laugh with that intellectual giant W.C. Fields: “I am free of all prejudice. I hate everyone equally.”

Actually, Capn, Lott’s commentary wasn’t even particularly convincing on its own merits. But to the extent it pointed out issues in making sure the count is accurate, this is a good thing.
What we are seeing post-election is some people pouncing on anything they can to show the nasty ol’ Dems are subverting democracy, truth, justice and the American way.
I say let them. To the extent the smoke isn’t coming from a smoke machine, it’ll benefit all of us.
Unfortunately, this will require calmly investigating the screaming headlines from Fox and the right-wing websites to out what really happened, if anything.

Wow. That would have been a lot more persuasive, OKGram, if it hadn’t been written by John Lott, the guy who argued “More Guns, Less Crime” in a book which no one else was able corraborate his findings.

Norm Coleman? Get out of Paul Wellstone’s seat!
Paul would have wanted Al Frankel.
———————–
Wellstone doesn’t have a vote here BJ. It hasn’t been Wellstones seat for years and the voters get to decide not you and Franken. Who by the way in a comedian and joke writer. In the lib camp that probably means ‘qualified’ but not in most camps.
Rage are you denying the fishy smell coming from this holdup. Three precints out of over 4,000 and they have found ‘errors’ that result in over 400 votes for Franken.
Extremely talented error makers. They only make mistakes on the demo side. Please tell me you don’t want the gop to take this laying down. What a farce!
Practice round
After the 2006 election, the first time the audit was conducted, it reviewed votes in about 5 percent of the state’s 4,123 precincts. Among 94,073 votes cast in the U.S. Senate race in those precincts, the audit found 53 discrepancies, an error rate of .00056.
(If that discrepancy rate occurred statewide in the current Senate race, it could potentially change more than 1,600 votes — eight times the margin that currently separates Franken and Coleman.)
The audits are monitored by volunteers for a nonprofit group, Citizens for Election Integrity Minnesota. Based on partial results from 30 counties audited Thursday, Friday and Monday (not including Ramsey), only two errors had been found, said the group’s director, Mark Halvorson.
“From what we’ve seen so far, we’re coming across very few discrepancies,” Halvorson said. “We expect the results to be consistent with ‘06.”
In St. Paul on Monday morning, Sarah Martyn Crowell was overseeing the work of a half-dozen volunteers from the organization, who were observing the audit.
“We’re just acting as a second pair of eyes here,” she said. “This turns out to be a really good practice round for what’s going to be a much larger recount.”
The machines worked
Shortly after 8:30 a.m., Mansky gave the election judges, his employees and the observers their marching orders: No talking by the observers, no interaction with the observers (”Joe’s rule of thumb is arm’s length — that’s how far you stand behind them,” Crowell said).
Mansky told the workers to count, by hand, all of the Senate-race votes cast in the five precincts that were randomly picked. He told them to set aside any ballots that were improperly marked, with a check mark or “X” that the scanners might not have read. “I’ll look at them and decide who the vote should be allocated to,” Mansky said. “OK, let’s get going.”
With that, 12 sealed banker’s boxes filled with ballots were wheeled into the room and the counting commenced.
As Mansky’s staffers sorted the votes into piles for Franken, Coleman and the three other candidates who were on the ballot, the election judges counted and stacked them.
Mansky hand-counted the improperly marked ballots. But many of them, it turned out, had been properly read by the voting machine scanners.
“The machines worked,” Mansky said. “That’s the whole point of this exercise.”
He was writing the precinct totals on a white board, having to correct himself a couple of times because of bad math. “Sorry, my mistake — I forgot the write-ins,” Manksy said. “That’s what happens when you haven’t had a day off since May.”

Rage, Didn’t intend to post the entire link. just the part that showed the error rate in ‘06 when the audits were first started. As you can see this would in no way justified the large swing of votes for Franken.
Rage are you denying the fishy smell coming from this holdup. Three precints out of over 4,000 and they have found ‘errors’ that result in over 400 votes for Franken.
Multiple sources, named by Lott himself, suggest otherwise. But if you’re acting as if there won’t be an official recount under current Minnesota law, well, guess what?–there’s already one mandated.
Now: If you think the recount is somehow going to be “fixed,” feel free to share your view with Minnesota officials. Everyone has an interest in the integrity of the process. But do present some hard facts to support your view.
He was writing the precinct totals on a white board, having to correct himself a couple of times because of bad math. “Sorry, my mistake — I forgot the write-ins,” Manksy said. “That’s what happens when you haven’t had a day off since May.”
You didn’t accept as hard facts the process that handles the recounts and the original test results and the sampling test results from this election?
This is Minnesotas problem but I find it a little strange that he was only tired when writing down Frankens vote totals.
“okobserver” –
Your mentioning the “delayed” recount is like the kid who killed his parents asking for mercy because he’s an orphan.
Coleman filed two lawsuits to stop the legally-required recount in Minnesota. He lost both cases (which, by the way, were based on spurious arguments which contradicted one another). Perhaps, had the State of Minnesota been able to get along with the recount without going to court — twice — the alleged “delayed recount” would have been further along.
And now, the Minnesota Secretary of State is going through every dot and tittle — under extremely close scrutiny (of which today’s talking points from the Republican Senate Campaign committee probably doesn’t qualify).
No guarantees as to who will win the Franken/Coleman race. But watching the Republic Party try to play the reverse Katherine Harris gambit amuses me.
Okie, you’re making a statistical argument that (1) ignores the large increase in turnout from the midterm to general argument and, (2) can, in fact, be explained by human error.
And you seem to think someone is somehow getting away with something nefarious, in spite of (1)no evidence of anything nefarious actually being planned or executed and, (2) a state-mandated recount in the wings and (3) the current statewide tally gives the election to Coleman.
A powerful Minnesota Republican party which will certainly pounce on any hint of impropriety (real or imagined) that helps Franken. So it goes.
Grateful_Dave: McRae was a Lt. Col. (physican/surgeon Canadian Army 1914-1918) who composed that poem after a nights’ surgery in Flanders. To this day if you go anywhere in the British Commonweath you will see people wearing a poppy over their heart, dedicated to Remberance Day. As a boy I recall my father/mother reciting that poem, I hadn’t see it in print for years and forgotten how it went…thanks.
People I know from Minnesota will want there to be a recount since the vote totals are so close as to be a statiscal dead heat. Whoever wins they will want to know that the counting was done as completely and accurately as possible.
Here in Sedgwick County we have provisions for a recount if the margin is too small. I salute Bill gale for that; I believe that he honestly wants a good clean count. And let the chips fall where they may.
This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.
My rifle, without me, is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I WILL…
My rifle and myself know that what counts in this war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. WE WILL HIT…
My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage as I will ever guard my legs, my arms, my eyes and my heart against damage. I will keep my rifle clean and ready. We will become part of each other. WE WILL…
Before God, I swear this creed. My rifle and myself are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. WE ARE THE SAVIORS OF MY LIFE.
So be it, until victory is America’s and there is no enemy, but peace!

Paying Veterans for services rendered is NOT Socialism.
=================================
HEY VETS! You see this?
No difference between a soldier and a welfare queen, per the Capn.
You all agree with this?
The soldier, fighting for the entire country, the welfare queen, fighting for her next beer and cigarette, same difference?
Per the Capn, no difference.

Although, if we take McCluer’s position, soldiers are just people doing a job for pay.
So why should we thank them for just doing their duty?
Obviously, we set aside a day for Veterans because we see their work as sacrifice, not just a job–a sacrifice for the benefit of all.

Funny Capn, point to one post where I ever said the soldier was just doing a job for pay.

Socialism: a system of social organization that advocates distribution of capital (i.e., money or wealth) for the community as a whole
———————–
Capn the only thing I can say about this is that distribution for me defines a handout program. Such as I went to every house in my neighborhood distributing grocery vouchers.
When we pay someone for services rendered it wouldn’t fall under that same category.
===============================================
Amen. But the Libs don’t know the difference. (See my 11:57 and other posts above.)
Capn would define spending tax dollars on anything as Socialism. He truly sees no difference between spending tax dollars that benefit all, and spending tax dollars that benefit a few.

Okay, I’ll play, JamesM.
Give me an example of spending tax dollars that benefit “all” and tax dollars that benefit “a few.”
I’m pretty sure that bales of shrink wrapped 100 dollar bills that were handed out to Blackwater employees in Iraq benefitted a “few.”
Typical Lib, needs his frickin hand held to read a blog even.
I am so inspired and filled with optimism at the hope the future now brings.
Everynight before I go to sleep, I read this. Obama inspires me oh so much!
“I should like to help everyone if possible; Christian, Jew, Muslim, Buddhist, black men, white, red, and yellow. We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each others’ happiness, not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone. And the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way.
Greed has poisoned men’s souls; has barricaded the world with hate; we live in misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Industry that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge as made us cynical; our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than wealth we need humanity. More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost. Modern communications and technology have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in man; cries out for universal brotherhood; for the unity of us all.
Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world, millions of despairing men, women, and little children, victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people. To those who can hear me, I say “Do not despair.” The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed, the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish.
Soldiers! Don’t fight for slavery! Fight for liberty! In the seventeenth chapter of St. Luke, it’s written “the kingdom of God is within man”, not one man nor a group of men, but in all men! In you! You, the people, have the power, the power to create prosperity, the power to create happiness! You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure. Then in the name of democracy, let us use that power.
Let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world, a decent world that will give men and women a chance to work, that will give youth a future and old age a security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfill their promise. They never will! Evil rulers free themselves but they enslave the people! Now let us fight to fulfill that promise! Let us fight to free the world! To do away with national barriers! To do away with greed, with hate and intolerance! Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men’s happiness.
Citizens of the world, in the name of democracy, let us all unite!
People can you hear me? Wherever you are, look up! The clouds are lifting! The sun is breaking through! We are coming out of the darkness into the light! We are coming into a new world; a kind new world, where men and women will rise above their hate, their greed, and brutality. Look up! The soul of mankind has been given wings and at last he is beginning to fly. He is flying into the rainbow. Into the light of hope! Into the future! The glorious future! That belongs to you, to me, and to all of us. Look up, everyone! Look up!”
James is madly trying to rationalize spending tax dollars on him as “earned and deserved” and spending on everything else as “socialism.”
Thank God that the Good Lord didn’t give him enough brains to see the hypocritical contradiction of this position.
Goodnite everyone, and have sweet dreams of Hope.
Each day going forward will be even more glorious then the last!

The silliness on this thread makes me more grateful that I had the opportunity to visit a college campus with my son today. We went to my undergraduate ala mater. We had a good time, ate lunch in the college cafeteria, and the food was not bad (strange, but true).
I am especially gratefult that our culture has produced more than 8th century religious beliefs. We can be more than Al Qaeda versions of the truth.

BTW, Chas, I went out to the Hebrew Congregation and studied the Zohan, Key to the Kaballah.
Whoa, wait until I see Nathan again, hehehehe!
That kid’s head is gonna explode.
I havent seen much of our friend mxyzpltk today… Maybe he was getting pissed at being called me yesterday… I didnt like it much either!!
Which one of the Hebrew Congregations did you go to, CapN???
The Kabellah is a most fascinating arm of Judaism… Very interesting…
Good to see you had a great day, Steven… Did you go to Sterling??? I cant remember??
Correction–The Zohar.
It was my first night.
I’m telling you, this isn’t your Sunday School teacher’s Genesis . . .
BTW, I never did have any complaints about the food at Bethany when I was there… The food service folks were terriffic!!
The one on Woodlawn.
I wasn’t the only “goy” there. They were a very welcoming group.
Shalom.
Far from it, CapN… You should take your class there some Friday evening, for Shabbat..
Shalom, indeed!! I have attended the Congregation on East Central numerous times… A nice, welcoming group there, as well… I remember watching that one being built… We had family friends across the street from it… on Mission…
Ummm… my hunch is that Nathan will “spin” all around the Zohar…. for what it’s worth…
Here is a Public Service Annoucement, as required in order to comply with the Fairness Doctrine:
Kabbalah promises many things to help out your life, by taking away grief, pain, misery, worries, and much more. On the contrary, the Word of God promises us persecution if we live godly in Christ (Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” -2nd Timothy 3:12). Isaiah 53:3, a prophecy about Jesus, declares “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief” John 15:20 reads “The servant is not greater than his Lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you.”
Kabbalism should be suspect for drawing attention to ones own “spirituality” rather than drawing attention to and glorifying Jesus Christ (God Almighty). As Isaiah 64:6 declares, “all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags.” Kabbalist mysticism is the basis for Freemasonry, Rosicrucianism, the Illuminati, Knights Templar, and many other occult organizations. Their holy book is the Zohar. “Spell oils and incense blends produced according to Kabbalah” is the advertisement on this witchcraft website. The Bible is quick and powerful enough (Hebrews 4:12), without the need to resort to extra-Biblical religiosity, occult practices, or Satanism. Jesus clearly said that He was the ONLY Way to the Father (John 14:6). Kabbalah is wishy-washy and fails to present a Biblical plan of salvation through Jesus Christ. Kabbalah is of the devil. I dare anyone to show me a clear Gospel presentation from the Kaballah. Again, the FACT that Satanic occult groups base their damnable religions upon the Kabbalah speaks volumes. The “mysticism” of the Kaballah is demonism.
http://www.jesus-is-savior.com/False%20Religions/Kabbalah/kabbalah_exposed.htm
There’s no way one can explain the huge logical contradictions in the Creation story with a fundamentalist reading.
In fact, the Rabbi pointed out a number of contradictions I hadn’t already thought of.
“Kabbalah promises many things to help out your life, by taking away grief, pain, misery, worries, and much more.”
However, this should not be confused with Obamanism, which is similar, but is rooted in Kenyan mysticism.
Here ends the Fairness Doctrine message of the moment.
Oh my — how absolutely Anti-Semitic!! How UnAmerican!! Tsk… Tsk… Tsk…
If anyone wasn’t sure about James McCluer’s ignorant anti-intellectualism, read the above post and erase all doubt.

jimmymac does not support his craziness.
jimmymac just posts lies, stupid ad hominems, and fictional paragraphs.
Wow. Where to start–
The story of Genesis describes two Creations, the Creation of the Spiritual Universe and later the Physical Universe.
That’s why the first Creation story–the Spiritual Universe–starts with the first letter of the Hebrew alphebet, aleph.
That’s why there could be light with no sun. Light was the idea of light, dark was the idea of no light. In the Spiritual Universe, no time exists. So there is no time lag between thought and action.
That’s why we find the puzzling phrase “Let us make man and let THEM have dominion over . . . ” Man was not Adam and Eve. Man was the idea of humanity.
The second Creation story begins with Bet, the second letter of the Hebrew alphabet. Adam is made from earth. Why earth? Why not wood or air?
Because earth is draws things into it. The challenge for Man is to move from a desire to receive (or take) to a desire to share (or give).
Just like darkness is a lack and light is a fulfilling.
For you all, as a comfort during the present 1930’s melt down:
Big Rock Candy Mountain
One evening as the sun went down and the jungle fire was burning
Down the track came a hobo hiking and he said boys I’m not turning
I’m headin for a land that’s far away beside the crystal fountains
So come with me we’ll go and see the Big Rock Candy Mountains
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains there’s a land that’s fair and bright
Where the handouts grow on bushes and you sleep out every night
Where the boxcars are all empty and the sun shines every day
On the birds and the bees and the cigarette trees
Where the lemonade springs where the bluebird sings
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains all the cops have wooden legs
And the bulldogs all have rubber teeth and the hens lay soft boiled eggs
The farmer’s trees are full of fruit and the barns are full of hay
Oh, I’m bound to go where there ain’t no snow
Where the rain don’t fall and the wind don’t blow
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains you never change your socks
And the little streams of alcohol come a-trickling down the rocks
The brakemen have to tip their hats and the railroad bulls are blind
There’s a lake of stew and of whiskey too
You can paddle all around ‘em in a big canoe
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains the jails are made of tin
And you can walk right out again as soon as you are in
There ain’t no short handled shovels, no axes saws or picks
I’m a goin to stay where you sleep all day
Where they hung the jerk that invented work
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
I’ll see you all this coming fall in the Big Rock Candy Mountains
The above from the Coen Brothers O Brother, Where Art Thou?.
