“If a foreign enemy attacks the United States during the Harvard-Yale game any time over the next four years, we’re screwed,” conservative columnist David Brooks wrote, joking about all the graduates of those two schools who will be key members of Barack Obama’s administration. But Brooks added that “as much as I want to resent these overeducated Achievatrons . . . , I find myself tremendously impressed by the Obama transition,” calling the team Obama has announced so far “more impressive than any other in recent memory.” Said Brooks: “He’s off to a start that nearly justifies the hype.”

Obama’s real problem is that after 8yrs of Bush, our nation is in desperate need of 15 consecutive major miracles. If he can only pull off 14, he’s going to be in deep shit!
I truly believe he’s the real deal…the way he conducted himself during the campaign was evidence that he wasn’t the kind of politician we usually have to endure. Only Bobby Kennedy impressed me as much.
Mary,
I agree with you, he’s the real deal, but in order to save the country from itself he’s going to have to do more than just walk on water- it may take running on it blindfolded during a class 5 hurricane, juggling five running chainsaws and an ostrich plume! He has his work cut out for him.
“he’s going to have to do more than just walk on water- it may take running on it blindfolded during a class 5 hurricane, juggling five running chainsaws and an ostrich plume! He has his work cut out for him.”
I think he’s up for the job! I don’t know of anyone who has the right attitude, intelligence, and tenacity to take on the challenge.
That should read “I don’t know of anyone ELSE who has the right attitude…..”
Obama maybe that impressive or simply we are not use to have someone that thinks before he acts.
After Bush and his 12 y.o. mindset we may have forgotten that we have had some President that did think about problems instead of rushing in with fists drawn.
I sincerely hope he can be successful..but it is a little early for such prognostications. Let’s see how things are looking say, one year from now?
The right-wing pundits are slamming Obama for his choices, saying they’re nothing but re-runs of the Clinton years. The big difference I see is he is making it perfectly clear he will be running the show. That in itself is change, as with the current administration, everybody BUT Bush seems to run their own show.
I have a feeling if his appointees do not follow the Obama script, they will be out of a job. Now, that is a refreshing change.
Obama will own whatever happens from day 1, there will be no excuses accepted.
Big eye roll.
OK, then let’s let bushco own all of their mistakes “from day 1″.
Hell, the repubs here cant make enough excuses to keep up with the devastation bushco creates.
The best thing about this new administration will be the joy of watching republicans marginalized and listening to them whiiiiiine in the corner where they are forced to sit.
Irrelevant. That’s the best thing we’ll be able to say about the republiCONs.

Change…well not really.

From your post to Obama’s actions, I hope.
WHEN the cons start their whining, here is what I expect and hope for from Obama….
“You’ve had…your turn. Now…sit down and shut up.”
Obama’s start nearly justifies the hype
I must have missed the inauguration.
Right Raptor. Way too early to tell anything.
I wish soon to be president Obama well in addressing the pressing problems such as the economy.
A hint to the wacko left. To wish difficulties on our country would be un-American.

Clinton had some very good people in his cabinet, and Obama’s taking the best of them. What would the republican losers have him do, pick people with no experience? I can guess what the right-wing pundits would be saying if he did.
Obama’s making some very smart choices in packing his cabinet with experienced people. That, plus the fact I’m betting he will run his cabinet with an iron fist. I doubt mavericks will be welcomed, including Hillary. My guess is, when Obama vetted Hillary, he made it perfectly clear he is the boss.
Also, by picking his closest people this early, he will be able to walk into the presidency with real planning, rather than stumble in with little planning. He’s looking more and more like a leader every day, which must piss off the limbaughs, coulters and O’Reillys to no end.
And that sounds like a major change when compared to the current administrations blind leading the blind form of planning, if it can even be called that.

What do you think happened when Bush was re-elected? We were given four more years of Un-Americanisms, no wishing involved.

Apply that same idiom to Bush, and there you have it: the worst president ever!
Obama takes the cream of the crop, if they served on Clinton’s admin. with success, so much the better.
Guess Repubs. just aren’t used to someone that doesn’t take all his old friends and campaign raisers and appoints them to positions they’re totally unqualified for, Heckuva job brownee, ad nausem.

All you have to do to answer the question posed in the OP is look at how the Clinton or Carter Administrations responded to terror attacks against the US.
Nothing.

That is so never gonna happen.
Obama has already set him self up in press conferences and media “interviews” to low expectations.
Hey, George.
Get the F out of Obama’s House . . .
Four million people are expected to turn out for Obama’s inaguration.
Quite a few people turned out for George Bush’s, but that was literally to throw eggs at the motorcade.
All you have to do to answer the question posed in the OP is look at how the Clinton or Carter Administrations responded to terror attacks against the US.
Not remotely true, of course.
But considering how relentlessly stupid, destructive, and helpful-to-terrorists Bush’s “response” to terrorism has been, it’s tough to see how any president could do any worse.
It’s about time we had someone who understood brute force is but a tool , that every action has consequences, and the world is not a schoolyard where the biggest bully triumphs by brutalizing everyone else. The legitimacy and moral standing of a country’s actions matter.
It will be nice to have someone in the White House who actually listens to terrorism experts instead creating his own reality.
Yes terrorist organizations did not grow during the Carter or Clinton admins.
For the first time we are on the offensive. I’m not sure why anyone has a problem with that.
For the first time we are on the offensive. I’m not sure why anyone has a problem with that.
Ah, yes, the ever-popular straw man argument. Make a claim not mildly supported by reality, then falsely accuse your opponents of taking the opposing position.
Screw it.
Which claim is that? That the Carter and Clinton administrations did nothing to stop terrorist acts against the United States? Or your argument that Bush’s actions have imboldend terrorist organizations when the inactivity of the Carter and Clinton administrations did the same?
Or is it we are finally on the offensive and you have a problem with that vs. a President that wishes to appease?
Bet those terrorist in India received their training at the new Al-quida safe haven in Pakistan.
Isn’t Pakistan Bush’s ally? Along with Wahabi Saudi Arabia?
“a President that wishes to appease?”
Lets see … we are attacked by alQuada, an organization with its roots in Bush ally SAUDI ARABIA and how do we respond? By trying ot ingratiate ourselves with them by attacking their enemy in Iraq. Now, to go further, we are becoming increasingly hostile toward another enemy of alQuada – Iran.
All this to appease Bush’s alQuada sponsor friends in the House of Saud.

The Blame Bush for everything won’t work in a few days.
It will be time for the ‘m’essiah to stand up and take in on the chin and in the nut sack.
“By trying ot ingratiate ourselves with them by attacking their enemy in Iraq.”
“We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandated of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them.”
- Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002
“Iraq’s search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power.”
- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002
“We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction.”
- Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002
MrKia repeats ad nauseum the endless lies of the CONs.
Clinton successfully stopped Project Boijinka and the Millenium Plot (cf Ahmed Ressam). For that matter, they successfully caught and prosecuted ALL the perpetrators of the first World Trade Center attack.
But since they didn’t hear it on Rush Limbaugh, they don’t know about it . . .
Regarding Obama’s cabinet–it’s been so long since we’ve have competent leadership, the CONs don’t know what it looks like anymore . . .
“But since they didn’t hear it on Rush Limbaugh, they don’t know about it . .”
How weak.
When was the last time the right thinkers on this blog referenced Limbaugh? An easier question. Who is it who links to the kook sites? Answer: It’s not us.
“Regarding Obama’s cabinet…”
That’s change we can believe in.
Okay, Fleettwood.
Why are you called the “blog’s dumbest poster” again?
Refresh my memory . . .
Nevermind, I remember now.
It’s cause you are the blog’s dumbest poster.
Hey Crapn, they have healing cream for those nasty testicle scars you have. Perhaps you can get JunioR to apply the cream for you?
“It’s cause you are the blog’s dumbest poster.”
Good one. Is there a refutation in there somewhere?

Being as Bush has neither chin nor nut sack, it’s refreshing to have a president elect who actually has both. I would also expect the ones who refer to Obama as, “‘m’essiah”, will be holding their own mini-version of a nut sack with both hands by the time Obama’s first year is over, not that they’d ever need it anyway.

More brilliance from the cons? Naaaaaa, that would be a conundrum: some things just aren’t possible.
MrKia’s argument was that Clinton did nothing to fight terrorism.
I provided three examples to prove how Clinton foiled terrorist attacks against the US and successfully caught and punished those who had attacked us.
Then Fleetweed waded in with his puerile non-sequitors.
“Naaaaaa, that would be a conundrum: some things just aren’t possible.”

ReguLIAR–
I have about 50 megabytes of files of you lying your ass off and then lying to cover your lying.
Keep up your irritating cheap-shots and reap what you sow.
I don’t think we have any problem with the stopping of terrorists attacks. The problem is the response. How many times did we see Clinton bite his lip and swear the attacks wouldn’t go unpunished? In the end, they went unpunished.
We all know what happens when something goes unpunished. It happens again. And it did.
“How many times did we see Clinton bite his lip and swear the attacks wouldn’t go unpunished? In the end, they went unpunished.”
Like when?
The worst attack on American soil happened under George W. Bush, worst president ever.
It happened because his best buddies are Saudis and 19 out of 20 of the killers were Saudis.
He refused to take Clinton’s warnings seriously.

And here’s a picture of Bush kissing some Saudi prince full on the lips.
What a sickening POS.
“Like when?”
USS Cole
President Bill Clinton declared, “If, as it now appears, this was an act of terrorism, it was a despicable and cowardly act. We will find out who was responsible and hold them accountable”.
In Afghanistan the bombing was a “great victory for bin Laden. Al-Qaeda camps … filled with new recruits, and contributors from the Gulf States arrived carrying Samsonite suitcases filled with petrodollars.”
The 9-11 Commission Report cites one source who said in February 2001, “[bin Laden] complained frequently that the United States had not yet attacked [in response to the Cole]… Bin Ladin wanted the United States to attack, and if it did not he would launch something bigger.”

From the Franklin school of repetitive nonsense.
Fleetwood first claims that “how many times do we remember,” and then cites as evidence a SINGLE example that occurred in mid OCTOBER less than a month before Bush was elected.
Not only that, no one ascertained that Al Qaeda was responsible until the end of November.
Condi Rice claimed Then-National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice told the Commission that when the administration took office on 20 January 2001, “We knew that there was speculation that the 2000 Cole attack was al Qaeda… We received, I think, on January 25th the same assessment [of al-Qaeda responsibility]. It was preliminary. It was not clear.”
*****
The Bush people were the ones that didn’t follow up on the Al Qaeda threat.
Obamas’ start?
WTF has he DONE yet?
Propganda Press wants to award a Super Bowl trophy before the season even starts!
What kind of morans are writing this crap today?
Slip the koolaide libs and kiss the ass of Obama before he has done a da*n thing.
Why don’t you just give him a big suck to show him how happy you are to be bowing down to him?
