Al Gore or Hillary Clinton as secretary of state?

Washington Post columnist Richard Cohen urges President-elect Obama to choose Al Gore as secretary of state: “Can you imagine a bolder statement about a new direction when it comes to global warming and the general care of our abused planet? Gore has won a Nobel Peace Prize for his work in this area (and an Oscar, to boot), and his appointment would signal a dramatic shift from the indifference of the Bush era with its cold shoulder to the Kyoto treaty. In one stroke, the United States would emerge as the leader of nations in the effort to save the planet from ourselves - and could prepare for the consequences of a changed world.”
Meanwhile, there are reports that Hillary Clinton is being considered for the job.

Why would Hillary leave her Senate seat. She can sit there and set herself up for another Presidential run.

Rhonda you can get over it. Hillary is not going to take anything with the Obama Presidency.

Al Gore did what Republican’s base all of their campaign promises on…cutting Federal spending…which they never get around to doing. He did this better than anyone ever in a high executive office. Obama needs him in a budgetary position on day one. Gore is a master with the “scalpel”.
Clinton is more powerful in a Senate position. And she can stay in it for the next 20 years if she wants to. If she leaves it, she may never get back in. She would be better off as chairwoman to an important senate committee.

Hillary Clinton’s interests tend to lie more in domestic policy, not foreign policy. As a member of the Senate she is in a position to work toward the enactment of her priorities more so than she would as a member of the cabinet. Also, she can do that for the next 20 years - not just one or two presidentail terms.

Hillary will do more good in the Senate and replacing Harry Reid would be a good start. I look for Hillary to keep working and waiting for the chance for a real woman to become president.

As for God help us….I think he just did on November 4th.

    This article just sounds funny.
Can Richard Cohen get any more melodramatic?

“the United States would emerge as the leader of nations in the effort to save the planet from ourselves ”

This sounds like an episode of Super Friends. All the Hero’s are coming together for an epic battle of ages. Barack Obama - The Mediator, Hilary Clinton - Nurse Nanny, Al Gore - The Environmental Case, Bill Clinton - The Great Oralater, The Fate of the World rest in the hands of the Super Fiends.

George Bush gets too much credit for the state of this country. The president may be the leader of the country but, the senate and house are in the mix too.

If congress were doing it’s job, there would have been more bi-partisanship in the direction of our country. Ms. Pelosi seemed too preoccupied with pointing an accusing finger at Mr. Bush and didn’t realize that she had three more fingers pointing her way.

George Bush must be felling a little bit like God. Good or bad, it’s all his fault.

How convenient to forget the fact that George W. Bush had 6 years of total control with his Repbublican Congress. The last two years of democrat simple majority in Congress is a far cry from the total control Republicans had for 6 years!

Rather than trying to find cover for Republicans, why not just bite the bullet and say that your side has screwed up big time?

As for bipartisanship - does this mean you will be advocating for Republicans to be working with President Obama and not against him?

Hillary should get nothing from Obama.

She’s the one who first linked Barack Obama with William Ayers.

Ayers speaks out about the despicible “guilt by association” meme that the MSM leaped on:

“We were thrown together in the civic community to improve schools and to increase jobs in Chicago neighborhoods and housing and so on.

That’s the full extent of our relationship.

This idea that we need to know more . . . like there’s some dark hidden secret or secret link is just a myth.

It’s a myth thrown up by people who want to exploit the politics of fear.

I think it’s a great credit to the American people that those politics were rejected.”

Is this how it is gonna be now Capn? Hillary worked her heart out and her supporters came through and now out comes the knives from some of you Obama supporters?

    I’ll have to remember that.

Before you totally throw your character away? You might want to consider that the long primary brought in more voters. Hillary going after Obama meant all the stories on Obama were old by September.

I’ll say it. Obama OWES his win in large part to Senator Clinton.

Well, Secretary of State seems to have a good travel plan. Traveling to countries most of us would avoid, but it is a way to see the world. Wonder if Bill would accompany her? Kinda like having a twofer! I’m not criticizing! The Clintons are loved and admired by our foreign allies and those who bush has made enemies of. Good for America!

I, too, think we need Hillary in the Senate, need her help in ensuring health care is a priority along with other domestic issues that have been ignored for eight long years.

Then, of course, it’s all speculation now. But exciting, huh!?

I read earlier today that McCain and Senator Lindsey Graham will meet with Obama in Chicago early next week. Subjects like ethics reform and even climate change and how they can best work together to help our country.

Can you remember a time that so much deliberation and thought was put into a new administration so far in advance? I can’t! I admire this thoughtful process, the hard work. Sure beats taking a few months off to cut brush!

And a brilliant move it’s been. Take the best of the Clinton era (who, indecently had a much higher approval rating then the current prez), use the knowledge they have, while bringing them into Obama’s line of thinking.

You can bet they will be working for him, and not the other way around, as is the case, again, with the current prez.

Actually, the economy has a life of it’s own, in spite of what BIG government tries to do.

    Live for the future Phantom.

What has gotten us into this mess to begin with is deficit financing and relying on credit to keep businesses thriving.

We need to make a move back to capital financing using investments from viable sources and building new business.

If we do not moveaway from deficit financing, we will be seeing more of the same that we have seen in the last several months.

Everybody is at the federal feeding trough.
