A campaign to remember

On his HBO show, comedian Bill Maher hit some highlights of the 2008 presidential campaign:
– “Americans were so sick of Bush that seven years after 9/11, they said, ‘You know what sounds good? A black guy with a Muslim name.’”
– “We learned that Barack Obama sat in a pew of Trinity United Church of Christ every week for 20 years, which proved he was a Muslim. And that John McCain didn’t go to church at all, which proved he was a Christian.”
– “The Republicans, who had three candidates who proudly said they did not believe in evolution, which became ironic when their campaigns quickly died off in favor of stronger, fitter campaigns.”

And, while they don’t poll for such things in the US (that says a lot by itself), I would suspect, of the two, the Christian (Obama) has the majority of the heathen vote.

    So much for stereotypes.

Rage – Obama has the majority of the heathen vote? I didn’t know that many Republicans were going to vote for Obama.

Hehe! I take that comment in the spirit of which it was given!

Agreed Rage. I took it as a chuckle and got a chuckle from it. In fact, I would bet that more of us who do NOT consider ourselves ’super-Christians’ voted for Obama while those who make a big deal about being ‘Christian’ voted for the non-church-goer.

    Allow me to translate.

    Super Christian:

-One who actually believes in the basic fundamentals of what makes one a Christian.

    Ben,

So tell me. Do you think it is more important to actually believe in the basic fundamentals of what makes one a Christian or just going to church?

When you get a chance, you might address my question as to why you think that the attack on the Marines in Lebanon was not a terrorist attack, rather a legitimate military attack.

    Nathan,

What made the attack in Lebanon a terrorist attack? Was it the bombers failure to announce their intentions ahead of time? Or something else?

Care to comment on the topic, i.e. the campaign? Didn’t think so.

    Steven,

The topic? You mean several jokes Bill Maher made?

The topic which took a turn and started to talk about Christian and church and I did make a comment on?

    Pay attention. Try to read.

Do you think the attack on the Marines was not a terrorist attack?

Except in Virginia. I saw long lines of those poor people waiting in the wind-driven rain.

I do hope Pedant checks in to give us a report.

Nathan – a question: If Soviet troops (showing my age) were garrisoned here would it be legitimate for citizens here to attack them?

“So tell me. Do you think it is more important to actually believe in the basic fundamentals of what makes one a Christian or just going to church?”

The fundamentals – things like charity, compassion, forgiveness, etc. You know – “feed the hungry and clothe the naked” and all that.

    Ben,

So anyone that is compassionate, forgives others, and gives to charity is a Christian then?

    That is the standard?

    Ben,

What does Soviet Troops being garrisoned in our country have to do with your thinking the attack on the Marines in Lebanon was a legitimate military attack or a terrorist action?

It is not a difficult question.

The only reason I can think of for you to keep dodging it is that you simply don’t have enough balls to say what you believe. That you believe it was not a terrorist attack and a legitimate attack on the Marines.

You will not deny or confirm that statement.

    You are a coward.

But be careful, if you have a bigger leverage (more than 100:1) with many Republicans, you need to take down the heathen vote. What is often experienced in 20 years are many Republicans making the heathen vote that end up causing a currency to act differently. You need to able to prove to yourself that the majority is going to go up significantly more than it is to buy.
