Slattery adman has colorful credits

It turns out that Jim Slattery’s “Hosed” commercial, which has garnered national media attention, is the brainchild of Bill Hillsman of Minneapolis’ North Woods Advertising. Hillsman’s credits include offbeat work for the late Minnesota Sen. Paul Wellstone and former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura, posed by Hillsman as Rodin’s “The Thinker.” Noting Slattery’s weak polling against Sen. Pat Roberts, Washington Post blogger Chris Cillizza called the “Hosed” ad “the definition of a Hail Mary pass.” Chicago Tribune blogger Frank James asked, “Does it get more outlandish than this?”

Compared to Pat Roberts’ “he loves well-scrubbed kids and puppies” commecials, Slattery’s stuff has successfully leveraged Slattery’s financial disadvantages in this campaign.

Roberts follows that grand ol’ party tradition of past US Senators who’d show up every six years and claim he’s “one of us.”

When’s the last time Patsy spent three nights in a row in his supposed Dodge City “home?”

For that matter, where’s Slattery’s “home?”

We don’t have any important voice in the United States Senate. Haven’t had one since Nancy Kassebaum, really.

Slattery’s ads are terrible, and worse….untrue.
He has lowered my opinion of him with those ads.
At this point he is just a name to take up space on the ballot and to be ignored.

Luckily, I’m spared the viewing of any of the ads in question. I don’t watch TV.

    Ok.

Did the pod people take over at the Eagle?

Now, this is a step in the right direction. However, there are ads which are outright lies about Roberts which I am still waiting for you EDITORS to say something about.

Even this thread could hardly be construed as questioning the ad Slattery used as it is more a look at the person who made it.

    Baby steps. Baby steps.

Now if only we could get a thread… any thread… which critically looked at Obama the way you do McCain and Palin every single day.

When they endorse Brown-nose Pat and Tankerless Todd AGAIN we will know the answer is yes.

    Ben,

If the Democrats running against either of them were within distance of actually having a chance to win, I imagine that the Eagle would all of a sudden be supporting them.

Good cop-out Nathan. I still say if the eagle endorses them then the eagle will have endorsed them. 4 years ago Nolla was in striking distance; the eagle still endorsed Tiahrt – as usual.
