This thread sounds like comments taken out of context from the Topeka Daily Capital newspaper. Is this talking about state or federal minimum wage levels?
Actually in this current recession, lower gasoline prices at the pump and, presumably, a lower CPI … salaries of all federal government elected officials should immediately be lowered by 20% to recognize the changes to the economy.
Any U.S. Senators and/or Congressmen stepping up to be first to volunteer?
I’m not sure what the heck she was saying, except for God’s political persuasion. Isn’t that blaspehemy in Kansas? Aren’t there laws against that?
I mean Boyda’s comment makes sense, Jenkins not so much.
I first heard her comments in relation to our state having the lowest state minimum wage in the country. I support raising it and encountered state republican legislators believing and saying it would raise the price of pizza and that union contracts were tied to the minimum wage (untrue).

Lonny – I was just asking the question. There are a lot of illegals hired in construction. I did not know if the plumbing business hired many or not.

Thanks for explaining. I was really feeling I was getting foggy. There are a lot of hispanics in the construction trades particularly in the hard physical labor areas like concrete flat work and roofing. However almost all of them in our area have verified residency. The Federal court came down on a large painting company a couple of years ago almost put them in jail and out of business. Trades like plumbing, electrical, etc requires a couple of years of experience and passing a state examination. We do have problems with out of state contractors coming into Kansas and we support legislation that requires verification of residency.
Well, I was considering voting for Jenkins, but I’ll have to reconsider.
