Her sentences are understandable, her grammar on par with average Americans (abysmal). She is talking to America and doing very well. Remember we’re news junkies and understand that she isn’t answering the questions. America doesn’t know those are meaningless soundbites!

    I’m watching on http://www.youngturks.com

Palin is dodging and lying as expected. Biden is smoking Palin. I’m noticing that Biden is getting asked questions first so dimwit Palin has time to produce a coherent response.

Seems like Biden is successfully gaming the process of the debate.

He makes his most salient points when he has the last word in the pre-determined question-and-answer process.

We’re not a third into the debate and the Moose-Dresser has run out of scripted lines.

She cannot stay on queue with the questions of the moderator. She cannot come back on Biden. She keeps on going back to trying to take control of the topic by talking about Energy issues and her experience in Alaska. The reason is, because she is not informed. She doesn’t know that issues that the questions cover.

It’s not working. She’s done. McCain is done.

Obama will be our next President.

For those who will not be voting for Obama, I suggest another option would be to support 3rd parties, such as the Libertarian Party as to keep them viable for ballot access in coming elections.

Who in the world can determine what would have an effect on that voter? It would seem a myriad of reasons I can’t ponder. I vote. I inform myself. This time around with the attention of many who have no idea I can’t predict who may appeal. What I will say is that Palin speaks like average America and they may identify with her.

I think she’s done better than in her interviews, but she still is out of touch with what’s going on in the country. She’s like listening to a right wing pundit, just rhetoric and spin and she hasn’t really got a clue to what American’s are really going through, especially when it comes to healthcare. I’m so sick of the right wing talking points..they mean nothing.

bushco has left few choices. Our military is stretched very thin. Maybe too thin to handle what there challenges currently are. We must have diplomacy. We must have options. We must know that sending soldiers to war is absolutely necessary. I trust Obama and Biden to understand or search to find the knowledge. Obama is a very intelligent, measured and a curious man. He will seek knowledge and guidance. I trust him more than the man I think is a warmonger.

There are always undecided. I heard a quote one time that as much as 10 percent don’t know who they will vote for, until they go into the booth.

I question that number, but there are a certain percentage of people who are too busy or politically apathetic.

    She survived.

For those watching CNN with the reaction graph, the sampled group was Ohio undecided voters.

Biden consistently out performed her with this group.

The debate was one of the greatest I have ever watched. I think my only problem with Palin was she got off topic quite regularly. That, I think lost the debate for her. On the other hand, she showed poise and knowledge, if not a bit too folksy. That seemed a bit contrived.

Biden gave the best performance of his life. He stayed on topic, gave short, concise answers, and refused to call out Palin on some of her obvious mistakes (general’s name in charge of Afghanistan, for instance). He also stayed away from the “silly season” crap, which I found refreshing. Sarah had to bring up the $42,000 tax, that was by no means true, so score one for Biden.

I would give it to Biden, but Sarah held her own. Excellent job both!!!!

Palin showed she’s good at delivering pat answers, and she didn’t look at her flash cards that often.

The problem: details. Biden excelled in them. Palin, not so much.

I was not impressed with her. She seemed to have an allergy to answering questions that weren’t on her preparation list, occasionally going off on some completely different issue.

And I don’t if anyone thinks that I’m just confirming a bias. I like details. I like politicians to answer my questions. That’s my bias. And, yes, to the limited extent that Palin gave details, I didn’t like what was being proposed.

Palin is good at exuding confidence but not so good at earning it.

But I have to admit, this woman held her own against a 30+ year career politician. She did very well and I found her appealing to many of my own feelings about things. Her non-political speak is almost like a breath of fresh air.

And bless Biden’s heart, but he did turn every question into a debate about the past (Bush). He looked old doing so against such a fresh face.

Biden was calm, cool, and collected and held his own and stood up for the people. But he did sound a lot like a long time politician. I guess his experience forces that impression. But it made him appear a little “good old boy” if you know what I mean.

Damn! How is the media going to keep picking on Palin for her lack of experience, and being a mom out of her league – after this stunning debate?

She smacked the old fart! She positively appeared like a regular human being and blue collar person, while Joe wanted to be one of us – he was obviously NOT.

I liked the “nearly a tear” technique. He must have learned that one from Hillary. It’s a secret emotional tactic used to secretly appeal to the bleeding hearts of liberalism.

But this young politician was every bit his equal. And him with all the “so called” experience! Many others which much more experience would not have faired so well.

    And Biden?

    Question:

What are you going to do for America?

    Answer:

“Well the last 8 years under Bush sucked.”
    “Change”

    Question:

“So what are you going to do about it?

    Answer:

“Well the last 8 years under Bush sucked.”
    “Change”

O.K., let’s try a new question Joe. What would you do about the war in Iraq?

    Answer:

“Well the last 8 years under Bush sucked.”
    “Change”

So what Joe are you going to do differently?

    Answer:

“Well McCain is Bush. McCain is Bush. McCain is Bush.” “Change”

    Question: What about nuclear weapons?

    Answer:

“Well McCain is Bush. McCain is Bush. McCain is Bush.” “Change”

In short, Biden was extremely successful at communicating to the American people the democrats strategy for this election:

    1. Bush sucks.
    2. McCain is Bush.
    3. Change

That’s about it in a nutshell.

So he misspoke. Big whoop. The essence of his point still stands: the only thing connecting the VP to the legislative branch is the tiebreaking authority. Biden came across as the usual slick politician. He even bragged about his “big beautiful home.”

Gov. Palin showed herself as a middle class American with the same issues as most Americans – and an understanding of same.

Biden continually looked behind pointing fingers.

    Sarah offered fresh perspective.

He spoke Washington-ese like he was arguing to a jury.

OK, what does everyone think about the Constitution b3eing “flexible” and allowing the VP increased powers?
    —————————-
I don’t know about increased powers, but increased duties would be fine.

Of course, when the founders outlined the office of the Vice President, it could be from any party.

So, the political impetus has changed dramatically.

    Change
Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1) Pronunciation Key – Show Spelled Pronunciation[cheynj] Pronunciation Key – Show IPA Pronunciation verb, changed, chang·ing, noun
–verb (used with object) 1. to make the form, nature, content, future course, etc., of (something) different from what it is or from what it would be if left alone: to change one’s name; to change one’s opinion; to change the course of history.
    2. to transform or convert (usually fol. by into): The witch changed the prince into a toad.
    3. to substitute another or others for; exchange for something else, usually of the same kind: She changed her shoes when she got home from the office.
    4. to give and take reciprocally; interchange: to change places with someone.
    5. to transfer from one (conveyance) to another: You’ll have to change planes in Chicago.
    6. to give or get smaller money in exchange for: to change a five-dollar bill.
    7. to give or get foreign money in exchange for: to change dollars into francs.
    8. to remove and replace the covering or coverings of: to change a bed; to change a baby.

It should be readily apparent that with the Bush Administration coming to an end, there will by default, be change.

Is this all about dumbing down the political rhetoric to reach unintelligent people who do not realize change is obvious and inevitable?

This is not the first campaign where CHANGE for CHANGE sake has become an issue, or word game.

    It means nothing.

Depends on what school of thought you belong to.

One school is strict constructionists, as in Supreme Court Justice Scalia.

Others are interpretative in that if the Constitution doesn’t define it, then it’s open for interpretation, which by the way is subject to personal ideology.

And that John M. is the same as Bush fails to recognize this man’s service to our nation and in the US Congress extends decades before Bush.

“McCain earned the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Distinguished Flying Cross.

McCain was first elected to political office on November 2, 1982, easily winning a seat in the House of Representatives after his well-known war record helped overcome doubts about his “carpetbagger” status. He was re-elected in 1984.

Having adapted well to the largely conservative politics of his home state, McCain was a loyal supporter of the Reagan administration and numbered among a group of young “new Right.”

In 1986, after the retirement of the longtime Arizona senator and prominent Republican Barry Goldwater, McCain won election to the U.S. Senate. Both in the House and the Senate, McCain earned a reputation as a conservative politician who nonetheless was not afraid to question the ruling Republican orthodoxy. In 1983, for example, he called for the withdrawal of U.S. Marines from Lebanon, and he also publicly criticized the administration´s handling of the Iran-Contra affair.

The list continues to present day.

Experience in war does NOT equal Bush.
Experience in the US House does NOT equal Bush.
Experience in the US Senate does NOT equal Bush.”

Bush is not John Mccain and John Mccain does not equal Bush.

A carefully crafted campaign trick, and a very useful one to paint the two as one in the same.
But voters know honesty and the truth. How many other members of the house and senate voted with their OWN party leaders during their tenure in Congress? Almost ALL.

OBama has barely two years in congress. He is still wet behind the ears. Mccain has been serving our nation when Obama was still asking for hall passes in school.

On to next Tuesday for the second presidential debate.

Palin did a gazillion times better tonight than in the few interviews she has done.

So, now when will she give an impromptu interview, a press conference, hang around after a speech for questions from members of the press, participate in a town hall meeting by answering questions from the public, interacting vs introducing McCain with a script full of talking points? It is safe to say that Palin did far better than most people thought she would.

I liked alot of her answers, but she did completely miss the question a couple of times.

Some of the questions seemed like the typical fluff interview questions you would be asked when applying for a job.

    “Do you have any weakness?”

    “What would you do differently?”

I could think of a hundred different questions, as I am sure some of you liberals could as well, which would have been far better than those types of “fluff” questions.

Palin told Miller: “Attempts to discredit scientists…simply because their analyses do not agree with your views, would be a disservice to this country.”
Miller now says that Palin’s use of the paper shows she differs greatly from John McCain, the Republican presidential contender, who has pressed for scientific integrity. “Turning to the cottage industry of scientists who are funded because they spread doubt about global warming is not integrity,” Miller said.”

Thats roughly $215 per week per person… with NO benefits… NO housing… NO meals…

Doesnt go very far…. SO, you send mama and the kids into town, to the market, to sell blankets (not too bad either) for aout $5 each, and beads (about $2 a string)…. That usually paid for a couple of meals…

They paid better for picking cotton… and for picking cabbage, and digging beets and potatoes… not much… but better….

I think Sarah Palin did an AWESOME job tonight. I was very worried about her and sent up a few prayers for her, knowing that the odds were definitely not in her favor. There were so many hurdles that she was up against that it was unreal: a very biased liberal media; a moderator who stands to rake in a nice little bundle of cash if Obama wins (and she was thankfully and surprisingly fair to both candidates); a debate against a seasoned senator who’s done this a few times; intense and sometimes unfair scrutiny of both her political and private life; and a slight decline in her popularity thanks to Gibsons’ and Kourics’ badly staged interviews. But God was with her tonight. . . and she came out shining.

To be just, Biden did do a good job tonight, and behaved decently toward Sarah (although that was probably mostly because he was warned by the Obama camp not to be too hard on her). But while he has more experience and expertise, he will never have one thing that Sarah naturally posesses. For all his wealth of knowledge, Joe Biden is simply not a communicator. And to be honest, he’s not the most exciting person on the planet to listen to.

Sarah really knows how to connect with her audiences. She’s warm, engaging, dynamic, spirited, articulate and gracious to her opponents – a true lady in every sense of the word. She’s just what America needs. And so what if she may be a little bit inexperienced? She’s a very sharp lady and capable of quickly learning what she needs to know.

She’s just what America needs, whether they realize it or not. She has much to offer our country, and will be a very charming and delightful VP or even President, yet also a very capable one as well.

    From “the corner” Blog:

“Joe Biden threw out a lot of bunk on foreign policy tonight, too bad Gov Palin didn’t have the foreign policy wonkishness to call him on it. Most ridiculous and downright strange was his contention that the Bush administration let Hezbollah into Lebanon, and then when “we threw them out” – whatever that means, he and Obama said NATO should go in but nobody took them up on it and now Hezbollah was all over Lebanon and that’s a problem. What?

Well, Hezbollah’s been there since the early 1980’s of course, blossoming throughout the 1990’s to become now over a third of the population of Lebanon with 2 cabinet members, a host of parliamentarians, and schools, clinics, and basically an entirely separate governance infrastructure in all of southern Lebanon and elsewhere. I suppose the throwing out of Hezbollah was the dismal and failed Israeli campaign of 2006 which dislodged nothing? Or was it Israeli’s occupation of Southern Lebanon from 1982 – 1999? Don’t remember an Obama position on NATO replacing Israeli occupation then. As for NATO going in after the 2006 debacle, well, I’m the one who rounded up 8,000 French and Italians and a few thousand other Euros to go into Southern Lebanon along with an assortment of others in August 2006 and while working that issue for about 40 straight days I don’t remember a peep from Biden or Obama about NATO – which wouldn’t be budged despite our intense pressure in Mons. So, we went straight to Rome and Paris. Que sera, sera.”

I saw this on another blog –

Joe Biden had a moment that I can really, personally relate two. He was talking about understanding how it is to have a child in jeopardy when he choked up. Of course, he was referring to his own personal tragedy – his loss of a child and his wife in a car accident, along with the critical injury of two more children.

I lost 3 children with my first wife many years ago. They were triplets born at 22 and 1/2 weeks. Old enough to try to breathe, but with no lungs to breathe with. None of them survived more than minutes. Each had a name, and each still stays with me – even as I am years past this with a wonderful family now. It was more than devestating, it made my first wife crazy, and destroyed that marriage.

Now, I’m not telling all of you this to engender sympathy. As I mentioned, I now have a wonderful, full life with an incredible wife and beautiful children. I’m bringing this up, because of what that experience was – and how horrendous it was that Sarah You-Betcha ignored it.

It is the worst thing that any adult could ever go through, and every parent – thankfully most never experience it – but they all know that’s the case. I’m assuming that includes Sarah Palin, since she has five children.

But her response – well, her response was to not even acknowledge that this very authentic, very real man – a candidate with no veneer – had suffered through this and that it still hurt. No, “I’m so sorry for your loss” or any compassion of any kind. Rather, she talked about how she and McCain were mavericks.

It was so blatant and stupid. And I wouldn’t have blamed Joe Biden if he had walked across the stage and slapped her. And she surely deserved it.

More importantly, it was at that moment – the very moment when it was time to be a “compassionate conservative,” she acted just like the valley girl teenager she speaks like. And it is that immature stupidity is how she lost the debate.

A McPalin administration would differ from Shrub’s in one way: there’s be no attempted semblance of “compassionate” CONservatism.

    And that’s the key.

Biden won; the Moose-Dresser didn’t lose. Gwen Ifill didn’t throw it to Biden. There were no “gotcha” moments. Bullwinkle’s Assassin didn’t embarrass the CONs, she simply didn’t have the goods on substantive issues to win.

Over the years, both sides of the political spectrum have complained that these debates revert to talking points and pre-scripted quips. On that level, Bible Spice succeeded beyond all expectations.

    To a point.

We were ALL of us expecting Sarah Palin to be completely and very obviously destroyed. SO we weren’t looking at details.

There is demolition in those details I think.

Consider Sarah Palin’s obvious scripting. Does she HAVE any words of her own?

“There you go again.” Ronald Reagan

“Wave the white flag of surrender.” Radio shill Sean Hannity.

Too, remember, her JOB was to attack Senator Obama. She got little chance at that for having to defend herself and HER running mate.

In appearance, it is a draw, style points to Biden.

    Tactically, Palin lost.

This referring to the master of the stolen speech. Biden’s a lot of things; some very good, some bad. But with that practiced, perfect smile, “authentic” is absolutely NOT one of them.

Given his history, Biden’s lucky he didn’t go off about FDR on TV(!?) again. Frankly, whether you like her or not (again, valid differences of opinion here), the one thing Palin IS is “authentic.”

Anti, she’d do as well as any of the others. She was mocked when she said the 2000 election was a coup, and she’s been mocked for saying LIHOP and MIHOP.

Keep mocking her. Doesnt mean she is wrong.

And it doesnt make mcsame or obama right.

Hell, look at the job bushco has done. You think she’d do worse?

Doesn’t mean she’s wrong??? Doesn’t mean she’s wrong??? HELLO!!! Don’t you think 5,000 executed people would have caused a few people to say, “Hey, where the fuk is Jimbo?” And 5,000 bodies in the swamp? No one has came across a few thousand floaters??? Doesn’t mean she’s wrong??? You are out of your gourd!

With regard to the election, my biggest hope is that on Wednesday November 5, 2008, there is a winner, and the win is considered by most Americans to have been fair and above board.

I have a favorite and will be happiest if he wins, but we need a start toward healing and if there are wide-spread doubts about the election we’re gonna go nowhere really fast.

    Say it isnt so…

Kinda like starting a war on the lie that saddam had wmd? Or that the next cloud would be a mushroom cloud?

Like starting a war based on the false premise that saddam had something to do with 9/11?

    Like that?

Like I said, it wouldnt be any worse than the mindset that the war would be “weeks, months, certainly not years”. Or that we would be greeted with candy and flowers. We’d be greeted as liberators.

And giving away $8-900 billion in tax money to wall street would help US, and not just wall street.

    Yeah, she’d be so.much.worse than that….

Posters here please take a deep breath and think about what is going on here.

The media is reporting poll results.
The red and blue teams are each arguing about the poll results.

Everyone is so concerned about the polls, as if the polls indicate anything, or mean anything.

Everyone here, like everyone being polled has an opinion. It’s not rocket science. It is not objective reasoning. I have not seen any clear measure or award methodology to support objective reasoning. By it’s very nature, subjectivity demonstrates a lack of objectivity.

So yes, it is like all of us having a-sholes and they all do stink (depending upon if you are on the red or blue team).

    But look at us!

Arguing our opinions over the subjective opinions of those making the poll questions, and the subjective opinions of those responding to the poll question(s).

We are a media conditioned world.

All that matters is the objective results on November 4th.

Unless, of course, some of you intend to formulate your own opinion, based upon one or any number of these polls.
