WASHINGTON - GOP presidential nominee John McCain has past connections to a private group that supplied aid to guerrillas seeking to overthrow the leftist government of Nicaragua in the Iran-Contra affair.
McCain’s ties are facing renewed scrutiny after his campaign criticized Barack Obama for his link to a former radical who engaged in violent acts 40 years ago.
The U.S. Council for World Freedom was part of an international organization linked to former Nazi collaborators and ultra-right-wing death squads in Central America. The group was dedicated to stamping out communism around the globe.
The council’s founder, retired Army Maj. Gen. John Singlaub, said McCain became associated with the organization in the early 1980s as McCain was launching his political career in Arizona. Singlaub said McCain was a supporter but not an active member in the group.

Do You Know the Real Barack Obama?
As the 2008 presidential campaign hurtles into its final days, John McCain confronts a choice: He can either start telling the public about the real Barack Obama, or he can lose.
For much of his career, McCain has been a media darling. He could count on the press to carry his water as long as he was a “maverick” Republican, driving more conservative members of his party crazy. But as he surely knows by now, when it comes to Barack Obama and the press, all bets are off. In covering Obama, the press has adopted a “don’t ask/don’t tell” policy designed to boost the least-vetted, least-known candidate ever to seek the presidency. It isn’t by accident that the media has denied all less-than-glowing stories about Obama the kind of consistent, sustained coverage that allows them to penetrate public consciousness.
If McCain is going to have a chance at winning, he must make sure that the public becomes thoroughly acquainted with the real Barack Obama - the most radical presidential nominee ever. And because the press evidently intends to abdicate its responsibility to acquaint voters with the less-popular parts of Obama’s record, he’ll have to rely on paid advertising to do it.
For starters, McCain should consider running a series of “Did You Know” ads about Barack Obama. He should ask voters, “Did you know that: Barack Obama has multiple ties to those responsible for the present economic crisis?:
Franklin Raines, the immediate past CEO of Fannie Mae - who has collected a $90 million golden parachute while driving Fannie into the ground - has advised Obama on housing issues.
Jim Johnson, yet another former Fannie Mae CEO, resigned from Obama’s vice presidential search team when it was revealed he had received a sweetheart home mortgage deal. Despite serving in the Senate for only four years, Obama himself has been the second-largest recipient of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac largesse in the entire Congress, ahead even of former presidential candidate John Kerry, who’s spent two decades in the Senate?
Obama’s long-time political ally, radical group ACORN, played a key role in pressuring banks to offer loans to those who were unlikely to be able to pay them back. ACORN has taken credit for pressuring banks to accept undocumented income as a basis for offering loans, for offering loans without using credit scores, and for making 100% financed loans available to low-income people.
There is more, of course. Do voters know:
That, in apparent defiance of federal election law, the Obama campaign refuses to identify individual donors who have provided almost half the funds for his campaign, including obvious fakes like “Mr. Good Will” and “Mr. Doodad Pro”? And that 11,500 donations to his campaign - totaling almost $34 million - may have come from overseas? Or that two Palestinians living in a Hamas-controlled refugee camp spent $31,300 in Obama’s online store? Who are all these people, and why won’t the Obama campaign obey the law and identify them?
That Jeremiah Wright wasn’t Obama’s first radical mentor? As a young man in Hawaii, Obama had a quasi-filial relationship with radical Frank Marshall Davis - an avowed member of the Communist Party of the USA. In fact, in his memoirs, Obama concedes that he attended “socialist conferences” and encountered Marxist literature. (Now imagine the outcry if a Republican presidential candidate had such ties to a Nazi).
That the People’s Weekly World - the official newspaper of the Communist Party of the USA - has rhapsodized about Obama’s presidential campaign, calling it a “transformative candidacy that would advance progressive politics for the long term”? (Think about how the press would react if a fascist newspaper heaped such praise on McCain.)
That Obama has routinely tried to intimidate his critics into silence? His political organization spearheaded a massive campaign against a Chicago radio show that invited one of his critics to appear - even after being asked (and refusing) to send a representative to balance the program, hosted by a non-partisan University of Chicago psychology professor. Worse, his campaign sought to chill free speech by establishing a “truth squad” of Missouri prosecutors and sheriffs, which threatened a “vigorous response” to any ad presenting information about Obama that they deemed to be “inaccurate.” And there are other examples.
That even as America struggles to “bail out” our own struggling economy, Obama backs a global bailout? His Global Poverty Initiative would assess $2500 per taxpayer, according to Investor’s Business Daily, to fund a global war on poverty administered by the UN and its agencies.
That despite touting his academic credentials as a rationale for initiating a campaign for president just two years after leaving the Illinois state legislature, Obama refuses to release either his college or his law school transcripts - just as he sought to keep records of his working relationship with former terrorist Bill Ayers on The Annenberg Challenge (a left-wing educational foundation) safely under wraps? What is it that he doesn’t want voters to know?
Repeatedly, we’ve heard the media denounce the “rumors” about Barack Obama that are, supposedly, circulated on the internet exclusively by the bigoted and the ignorant. But Americans sense that there is more to Barack Obama than they’ve been told. Having witnessed the media’s own bias and favoritism, they’ve come to suspect - reasonably - that even if any of the rumors were true, the press might choose to conceal them until the election is safely over. What’s more, they wonder: What else is the press not telling us?
Certainly, it would be terribly wrong for John McCain to traffic in rumors. But he doesn’t need to. The truth is more than enough. There are facts that the American people deserve to know - and which the press isn’t telling them. By filling in the gaps that the media has left unmentioned, John McCain isn’t just doing himself a service. He’s doing journalists’ job for them, and allowing Americans to make an informed decision when they head to the polls next month.

HOMELESS ‘DRIVEN’ TO VOTE OBAMA

CLEVELAND - Volunteers supporting Barack Obama picked up hundreds of people at homeless shelters, soup kitchens and drug-rehab centers and drove them to a polling place yesterday on the last day that Ohioans could register and vote on the same day, almost no questions asked.
The huge effort by a pro-Obama group, Vote Today Ohio, takes advantage of a quirk in the state’s elections laws that allows people to register and cast ballots at the same time without having to prove residency.
Republicans have argued that the window could lead to widespread voter fraud because officials wouldn’t have an opportunity to verify registration information before ballots were cast.
Among the volunteers were Yori Stadlin and Vivian Lehrer of the Upper West Side, who got married last week and decided to spend their honeymoon shepherding voters to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.
Early today, Stadlin’s van picked up William Woods, 59, at the soup kitchen of the Bishop Cosgrove Center.
“I never voted before,” Woods said, because of a felony conviction that previously barred him from the polls. “Without this service, I would have had no way to get here.”

(CBS) In a sign that the race for president has returned to about where it was before the first presidential debate, the Obama-Biden ticket leads the McCain-Palin ticket 47 percent to 43 percent among registered voters in a new CBS News poll.
The Obama-Biden ticket led by a wider margin, nine percentage points, in a CBS News poll released last Wednesday, before Joe Biden and Sarah Palin faced off in the vice presidential debate. Obama-Biden led by five percentage points on Sept. 25.
In the new poll, the Democratic ticket leads by 3 percentage points, 48 percent to 45 percent, among likely voters.

Palins May Owe Tens of Thousands of Dollars in Back Taxes
When Sarah Palin accepted John McCain’s offer to be his running mate, she probably didn’t fully realize what being in the national spotlight meant. For example, your tax returns get to be analyzed in public (for free) by miscellaneous tax experts. Gov. Palin actually lives in Wasilla, a suburb of Anchorage, but the state capital is in Juneau, 500 miles away as the crow flies (assuming they have crows in Alaska). On the many nights she stayed at home, she claimed to have been away from the capital on business and was reimbursed $17,000 by the state for this “travel.” Being paid a per diem for staying in your own home is ethically dicey but probably legal since “away on business” is probably defined as “not near your office.” However, Palin was also paid $25,000 to reimburse her husband and children for being away from “home” (Juneau) which she did not list as income. A D.C. tax lawyer and two law school professors specializing in tax law have concluded that if the State of Alaska wants to pay the governor to take her family on “business trips” that is its good right, but the money received is taxable income under the internal revenue code and the Palins should have declared it and paid tax on it, which they did not.

In New Hampshire’s hotly contested 2002 Senate race, Democratic get-out-the-vote phone banks were jammed with incoming calls on Election Day. The Republican John Sununu, won re-election by under 20,000 votes, and Allen Raymond, a Republican Party operative, went to jail for his role in the jamming.
Mr. Raymond has now written a book about his experiences, “How to Rig an Election: Confessions of a Republican Operative.” In it, he paints a picture of the corruption of modern politics that should leave no doubt about the creativity and cynicism of operatives like Mr. Raymond or the need for tough new election-reform legislation.
Mr. Raymond, whose great-grandfather founded the Underwood Typewriter Company, was a privileged kid drawn to politics at a young age. He moved from small campaigns to larger ones, eventually working for the Republican National Committee and the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
It was a world in which, he claims, dirty tricks were the norm. When Mr. Raymond opened a political telemarketing firm, he was hired by a Republican challenging a New Jersey Democratic congressman. Mr. Raymond’s company — in a plan he says he hatched with the challenger’s advisers — called liberal Democrats and urged them to vote for the Green Party candidate.
Those same advisers, he says, gave Mr. Raymond another assignment: to call white households asking them to vote for the Democrat, using the voice of, as he puts it, a “ghetto black guy.” He also called union households, using voices with thick Spanish accents.
No one is suggesting that Mr. Sununu knew anything about the phone jamming. Mr. Raymond says his instructions came from James Tobin, the northeast regional director of the Republican National Committee. And he says a top official of the New Hampshire Republican Party provided the phone numbers of the Democratic get-out-the-vote banks. Mr. Raymond jammed the lines — placing hundreds of hang-up calls an hour — to five Democratic offices across the state and a phone bank run by volunteer firefighters.
Mr. Raymond pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit phone harassment and was sentenced to five months in prison. Mr. Tobin argued in court that the idea to jam the phones was not his and that he committed no crime. A federal appeals court in Boston reversed his conviction, saying that the law he was found guilty under was not “a close fit for what he did.” The Republican Party has paid a high-priced law firm in Washington to defend Mr. Tobin, according to The Associated Press, and Mr. Raymond suspects it is because Republican bigwigs “wanted him to keep his yap shut” about the origins of the scheme.
Mr. Raymond doesn’t offer proof in the book and is clearly bitter about his former employers not coming to his defense. The Republicans, he says, “not only threw me under the bus but then blamed me for getting run over.”
Of course, this tradition of dirty trickery goes back decades. Donald Segretti, an operative with President Richard Nixon’s re-election committee went to jail for distributing devious, and illegal, campaign literature. Today there are many others plying the trade — for both parties.
In 2006, Republicans in upstate New York accused Democrats of calling voters at the last minute and directing them to incorrect polling places. At the same time, Democrats in several Congressional districts charged that Republicans unleashed robo-calls — calls that repeated over and over, enraging the recipients — that were made to sound as if they were coming from the Democratic candidate.
Such excesses are often dismissed as the work of a few overeager campaign staff members. Mr. Raymond argues, however, that illegal tactics are often standard operating procedure. “In my business,” he writes, “communications devices were all lethal weapons — and every fight was dirty.”

The destructive policies of President Bush
When all the various reasons for a preemptive war against Iraq are examined - the nonexistent weapons of mass destruction, spreading democracy, helping Israel, etc., etc. - it all boiled down to the worst of all possible reasons: Bush invaded Iraq because he could.
Bush promised a solution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict before he left office, but his efforts have been half-hearted, sporadic, and pathetic - almost designed to fail.
The hubris and arrogance of Bush’s first term still poisons the wells of good will this country once enjoyed. The undermining of the Constitution, the secret torture chambers have besmirched this administration more than any tawdry intern scandal ever could. Today we are bogged down in two wars and an unprecedented deficit, with a financial crisis of a magnitude not seen since the days of Herbert Hoover. The president has so little respect it’s as if he has already left the stage.
The economy founders, and it may yet bring the world down with it. The same ideologically driven, hopelessly incompetent administration that brought you Iraq and “mission accomplished” was responsible for the sweetheart deal that the Security and Exchange Commission allowed the investment brokers to increase their debt in proportion to their capital, and then failed to police them.
That deal, according to The New York Times, “fitted squarely” into the broader Bush culture of deregulation that savaged everything from the “Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Environmental Protection Agency, to worker safety and transportation agencies.”
There was a time when deregulation made sense, but, as in so much else in the life of this administration, Bush took it to extremes.
Whereas he once said he would unite the country, he has been deliberately and destructively divisive. Strangely detached, he has let his vice president run rings around him, and outsourced decisions that should have been his. As Woodward says, in the final days of his hapless presidency Bush “had not rooted out terror wherever it existed. He had not achieved world peace. He had not attained victory in his two wars.”
And now this: a great financial meltdown coming down on his watch in the twilight hours of what history will judge as among the worst administrations in our history. When you think of Bush and his team, it’s hard to believe so much harm could be done to so many by so few.

Alaska’s director of finance has already declared that the state does not consider these $60-a-day payments taxable. Accounting experts and some tax courts have differed on the question of whether such compensation is tax-exempt. Yesterday, the McCain campaign issued a legal opinion from Washington lawyer Roger M. Olsen supporting the state’s view that the payments are not taxable.

Regular, the info I posted doesn’t have to do with the per diem paid for Palin working at her home and away from her office. That question seems to be settled as you say. The additional “$25,000 to reimburse her husband and children for being away from “home” (Juneau) which she did not list as income,” is being questioned.

The substantive value of Palin’s per diems is pretty small potatoes in my opinion.
But it does provide a window into how she gamed the system. It happens all the time, like when Bob Dole rode on ADM’s corporate jet and paid the equivalent of a standard air fare. Perfectly legal at the time, but you try to get a private jet for that price.
It sounds as if McCain’s free vacations to the Bahama’s on Keating’s jet were, technically, legal at the time…and he took his wife and kids and their baby sitter.
I’ve written about a guy I worked with in the ad biz who, instead of flying directly to an out-of-town meeting, booked a Rube Goldbergian bunch of connection flights, just so he could collect frequent flyer points. There was no rule against it, but it was gaming the system.
Just like Wall Street speculators gamed the system. Just how you and I drive 70 mph in a 65 mph zone because we can get away with it as long as it’s in the wiggle room.
Ultimately, it’s a character issue… for all of us. Far more universal that abortion rights or gay marriage or prayer in school or even corporate bailouts. And closer to home. And something we can do in exercising personal morality rather than demanding everyone else behave while we get away with stretching the rules because “everyone does it.”
McCain/Palin are running such a dignified, respectful presidential campaign. NOT!

Regular, the info I posted doesn’t have to do with the per diem paid for Palin working at her home and away from her office. That question seems to be settled as you say. The additional “$25,000 to reimburse her husband and children for being away from “home” (Juneau) which she did not list as income,” is being questioned.

Linda it was still paid to Palin as per diem. No check was issued to husband and/or children. If so the state should have generated a 1099 and one would have been sent to DC. The headline says it all ‘may owe’. This is one of those floaters. Throw it out and if it sticks run with it.

NAIROBI, Kenya – The government of Kenya is holding WND senior staff reporter Jerome Corsi in custody at immigration headquarters after police picked him up at his hotel just prior to a scheduled news conference in which he planned to announce the findings of his investigation into Barack Obama’s connections in the country.
Corsi, the author of the No. 1 best-selling book “The Obama Nation,” was picked up by authorities at his hotel at 9:45 a.m. and detained at Nyayo House, the provincial headquarters for Nairobi.
“Just as we were about to start the 10 a.m. press conference at the Grand Regency Hotel in Nairobi, Kenyan immigration approached us and detained us,” Corsi told WND by telephone this morning. “Tim Bueler, my publicist, and I are now in the immigration offices, with our passports taken. The immigration officer told the press, ‘There is no problem, and Dr. Corsi is a friend of Kenya.’”
Unconfirmed reports say Corsi has been taken by government officials to the airport. He has not been available by phone or e-mail since 9:30 a.m. Eastern
Corsi had extensive meetings with top Kenyan officials upon his arrival. His visit and his activities during his stay have been well-known to authorities at the highest levels.

A review of Federal Election Commission records back to 1989 reveals President President Obama in his three complete years in the Senate is the second largest recipient of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae campaign contributions, behind only Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., the powerful chairman of the Senate banking committee. Dodd was first elected to the Senate in 1980.
According to OpenSecrets.com, from 1989 to 2008, Dodd received $165,400 in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac campaign contributions, including contributions from PACs and individuals, followed by President President Obama, who received $126,349 in such contributions since being elected to the Senate in 2004. A guy promoting the free taxi program to register the homeless in Ohio exults: “It’s a perfect opportunity for them to come in, register at a temporary address like a homeless shelter or a YMCA or something like that. They can register at that address because they don’t know where they’re going to be tomorrow or next week.”
(If the individuals don’t know where they will be tomorrow, how could the election board possibly know and what stops them from voting again tomorrow and the next day and the next day?)
Another woman describes trolling bus stops and picking up prospects: “I asked em if they’re registered to vote and if they weren’t, I said Get in the car, I’m bringing you!’”
A homeless thug now registered to vote comments: “They picked me up. They seen me walkin’ around. So day said, You wanna vote?’ I said, Yeah, I’ll vote.’ (laughs) Day said, We’ll take you anywhere you want.’ I said, Dat’s cool’If day say ’sign the ballot,’ just give em and do exactly what they want you to do.’ I mean, hey, dis is America, you know?” (laughs).

President Obama and Campaign Finance Fraud
These stories just keep piling up so I thought it was time to round them up a little so a more complete story was readily available. First up is this Newsmax story:
More than half of the whopping $426.9 million Barack President Obama has raised has come from small donors whose names the President Obama campaign won’t disclose.
And questions have arisen about millions more in foreign donations the President Obama campaign has received that apparently have not been vetted as legitimate.
The main suspicious characteristic of these donations is as follows.
Federal law does not require the campaigns to identify donors who give less than $200 during the election cycle. However, it does require that campaigns calculate running totals for each donor and report them once they go beyond the $200 mark.
Surprisingly, the great majority of President Obama donors never break the $200 threshold.
Jack Kelly, a reporter for the Toledo Blade newspaper, also writes on this less than two hundred dollar pattern.
WHO is “Will, Good”?
Mr. Good Will - who lists his employer as “Loving” and his profession as “You” - has contributed 1,000 times to the Barack President Obama campaign.
All the contributions have been in amounts of $25 or less. But they add up to $17,375 - far more than the legal limit of $4,600. That’s $2,300 each for the primary and general election campaigns.
This loophole in the donation laws seems primed for abuse.
Making contributions on credit cards via the Internet - as both Good Will and Doodad Pro did - makes it easier for foreigners to contribute. Web logger Pamela Geller (Atlas Shrugs) reported three Palestinians living in a refugee camp in Gaza tried to donate $33,500 to the President Obama campaign last year. They were caught only because the amount was far above the legal limit. If foreigners donate in amounts less than $200, their illegal involvement would be virtually undetectable.
But it gets worse. President Obama’s campaign claims to have returned these illegal donations from Palestine. Powerline links to a online investigation by Pamela Gellar that shows these donations were never returned. Scott at Powerline adds:

Only the money, of course, is real.
Will anything be done? Will this be investigated? If it were up to the mainstream media, these investigations would never happen. At the very least, they won’t happen until after the election and their choice for President is safely elected. Glenn Reynolds writes something encouraging, however.

Well Pred I have voiced my concern to city officials and state officials that this man with 4 previous DUIs was out on the street. I don’t care if the jail is too crowded to keep them. Then put on an ankle chain and put up a tent like they do in Arizona.
If we show how irrate we are about what happened then maybe DUIs will stop being treated like shoplifting. A slap on the wrist and let go. Why wait until someone is dead before acting.
If I were this husband I would sue the city and get all of the publicity I could to bring attention to what was allowed to happen.
One of the answers I got on the DUIs was that someone driving home from a dinner party might get one when they weren’t really drunk. That shouldn’t matter. If you blow over the legal limit you shouldn’t be driving. Period.

It is voting day, and 83% of them, after not going to the polls at all in the morning, go in the late afternoon and cast a blank ballot.
We see the dismay of bureaucrats, the excitement of journalists, the hysteria of the government, and the mild non-response of the citizens, who, when asked how they voted, refuse to say, reminding the questioner that the question is illegal. The satire is at first quite funny, and I thought it was going to be a light, Voltairean tale.
Turning in a blank ballot is a signal unfamiliar to most Britons and Americans, who aren’t yet used to living under a government that has made voting meaningless. In a functioning democracy, one can consider not voting a lazy protest liable to play into the hands of the party in power (as when low Labour turn-out allowed Margaret Thatcher’s re-elections, and Democratic apathy secured both elections of George W Bush). It comes hard to me to admit that a vote is not in itself an act of power, and I was at first blind to the point Saramago’s non-voting voters are making. I began to see it at last, when the minister of defence announces that what the country is facing is terrorism.
Other ministers oppose him but he gets what he wants - a state of emergency, then the exodus of the government, by night, from the capital city, which is declared to be under siege. A bomb is exploded (by terrorists, of course, as the media report), killing quite a few people. An attempted evacuation of the 17% of voters who marked their ballots ends in failure, as the government forgets to tell the troops blocking all the roads to let the refugees through. The so-called terrorists in the city, still mild and peaceable, help the refugees carry back upstairs all they tried to take with them - the tea service, the silver platter, the painting, grandpa …

When Greg Mankiw, chairman of President Bush’s Council of Economic Advisers, voiced a warning about weakened underwriting standards, he was rebuffed by Congress..
The Wall Street Journal quoted Congressman Barney Frank, D-Mass., in 2003 as criticizing Greg Mankiw “because he is worried about the tiny little matter of safety and soundness rather than ‘concern about housing.’”
Frank, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, rejected a Bush administration and Congressional Republican plan for regulating the mortgage industry in 2003, saying, “These two entities – Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac – are not facing any kind of financial crisis.” According to a New York Times article, Frank added, “The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.”

To try to lay this mess on Bush’s doorstep is to turn a blind eye to what really happened. I think Dodd and Frank should be brought up on charges. They both have benefited from what happened. But then so did Obama. The second largest politician with respect to contributions and he had only a 3 year history.
What Hath Clinton Wrought?
What can be said in Clinton’s favor is that no one in 1999 anticipated the huge growth of the hedge fund industry and the subprime mortgage market. The New York Times described the new financial world created by the repeal of Glass-Steagall in a June 2007 profile of Goldman Sachs:
While Wall Street still mints money advising companies on mergers and taking them public, real money — staggering money — is made trading and investing capital through a global array of mind-bending products and strategies unimaginable a decade ago.
Curiously, Goldman Sachs head Lloyd Blankfein paints the perfect big picture of what has happened:

The ruling, handed down by Federal District Judge Ricardo M. Urbina, marked the first time that any United States court rejected government arguments and ordered the release of detainees from Guantánamo Bay, an American naval base in Cuba, since the detention center there opened in 2002.
Judge Urbina said that the detention of the 17 prisoners — members of the Uighur ethnic group, a restive Muslim minority in western China — was unlawful, noting that the Constitution prohibits indefinite imprisonment without charges.

Man Named Fox Wrecks Car After Picking Up ‘Dead’ Fox

A man who decided to take home a fox he hit on the road wrecked his SUV after the animal he thought was dead revived.
Tommy Fox ran over the fox last Wednesday near Dover, Tenn., as he returned home from work, the Leaf Chronicle reports.
Thinking the animal was dead, he decided to take the animal home to cut off its tail as a souvenir, Dale Grandstaff of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency told the paper.
“The tails are real bushy and pretty and thick this time of year,” Grandstaff said.
Instead, the driver flipped his GMC Jimmy trying to keep the fox — that had awoken in the backseat — from biting him, Grandstaff told the paper.
Fox suffered minor injuries and bruises, the Leaf Chronicle reports. The fox died, though it was unclear if it was from initial injuries or the subsequent wreck of the vehicle.

Nevada state authorities seized records and computers Tuesday from the Las Vegas office of an organization that tries to get low-income people registered to vote, after fielding complaints of voter fraud.
Bob Walsh, spokesman for the Nevada secretary of state’s office, told FOXNews.com the raid was prompted by ongoing complaints about “erroneous” registration information being submitted by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, also called ACORN.
The group was submitting the information through a voter sign-up drive known as Project Vote.

Coming home from fishing in Idaho a friend and I hit a pheasant. We stopped and put it on the floor boards of his pickup. Just as we entered the Idaho Falls city limits the pheasant recovered. It had a broken wing but it started flapping around in the cab, feathers and blood going everywhere.
We stopped and opened the doors to let in out. It was flopping around in the borrow ditch and my friend was chasing it around trying to kill it with his .45. The game warden pulled up just as the bird met its demise.
The game warden asked my friend for his license. “You can get a license for this?” he asked.

I explained what has happened to the game warden, showed him the front of the truck where the pheasant hit. Showed him the blood and feathers in the truck. Bush, Karl Rove, the former White House political adviser, both appear to have helped orchestrate the firing of former New Mexico U.S. Attorney David Iglesias after receiving numerous complaints from Republican activists that Iglesias did not prosecute individuals for voter fraud before the 2006 midterm elections, according to a report on the U.S. Attorney purge released Monday by the Department of Justice’s internal watchdog.
It’s clear just where you cons are coming from as to registering votes. Most of you are just a little less honest about it.

I went hunting in Texas one time and all that I could find were ducks on a pond. All I had with me is a 30-06 which is not conducive to duck hunting.
Anyways, I approached the pond and as I did, I tripped and the rifle jarred from my hands. It hit the ground butt first and discharged sending a shot straight up into the air. Needless to say, the ducks were frightened and began to fly off.
About 10 seconds later, the slug from the 30-06 came spiraling down to earth just as the ducks were headed back to the pond. Well, I was impressed, when the bullet went through the first one, but even more pleased and the bullet pierced the second duck in flight which sent both hurtling towards the ground.

A Nevada secretary of state’s office spokesman said Tuesday that investigators are looking for evidence of voter fraud at the office of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, also called ACORN.
No one was at the ACORN office when state agents arrived with a search warrant and began carting records and documents away.
Secretary of State spokesman Bob Walsh says ACORN is accused of submitting multiple voter registrations with false and duplicate names.” (AP)

State officials search ACORN office in voter registration fraud probe
Agents with the state attorney general’s and secretary of state’s offices served a search warrant this morning on the new ACORN headquarters. The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now office is located at 953 E. Sahara Ave.
The warrant was part of an ongoing investigation into suspected voter registration fraud. Employees are suspected of using false addresses or false names, including those of former Dallas Cowboys, according to the secretary of state’s office.
(They probably couldn’t remember the names of any Chiefs players.)

The 2008 Fire Prevention Week will be observed October 5-11 in the City of Wichita. To promote the campaign the Wichita Fire Department (W.F.D.)has scheduled a number of activities of interest to the public.
OLD COWTOWN FIRE SAFETY EDUCATION FAIR:
9:00 a.m., Friday, October 3rd at Old Cowtown, 1865 Museum Blvd.
The W.F.D. in conjunction with Old Cowtown will be hosting a safety event for all area grade schools. The event will allow students to learn about fire safety, watch a Heavy Rescue demonstration, fire safety puppet show and tour the sites of Old Cowtown.
FILE OF LIFE SAFETY CARAVAN:
10:30 a.m., Monday, October 6th at LaFamilia Senior Service Center, 841 West 21st Street
11:45 a.m., Monday October 6th at North East Senior Center, 2121 East 21st Street
9:15 a.m., Friday October 10th at Lynnwood Recreation Center

It will give students the opportunity to interact with firefighters, safety personnel and participate in fire prevention and safety activities.
FIRE EVACUATION PROCEDURE REVIEW:
9:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 8th at Wichita’s City Hall (City Council Chambers), 455 N. Main
The W.F.D. will present a program on administrative regulations regarding fire evacuation and bomb threats at City Hall to City Hall employees.
HEALTH, SAFETY AND FITNESS AWARENESS DAY:
10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 9th at the North Branch YMCA, 3330 N. Woodlawn.
The W.F.D. will present a fire prevention program for all home schools located in the City and County. Students will practice life safety skills such as how to leave a smoked filled room and learn about the dangers of playing with matches and lighters. Health and Wellness activities will also be presented by YMCA Staff.
PARTNERS IN PREVENTION SENIOR CITIZEN PROGRAM:
1:30 p.m., Friday, October 10th at Country Acres Senior Center, 343 Country Acres
The W.F.D. will present a program especially for seniors and have an antique fire engine on display. Seniors will also have an opportunity to obtain a flu vaccination given by the Sedgwick County Health Department.

A memorial service will be held at the Kansas Firefighters Museum to honor all Kansas firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Each department’s Fire Chief will read the names of each fallen firefighter.

Is “coalition politics” at work in Obama’s rise to power?
In his biography of Barack Obama, David Mendell writes about Obama’s life as a “secret smoker” and how he “went to great lengths to conceal the habit.” But what about Obama’s secret political life? It turns out that Obama’s childhood mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, was a communist.
In his books, Obama admits attending “socialist conferences” and coming into contact with Marxist literature. But he ridicules the charge of being a “hard-core academic Marxist,” which was made by his colorful and outspoken 2004 U.S. Senate opponent, Republican Alan Keyes.
However, through Frank Marshall Davis, Obama had an admitted relationship with someone who was publicly identified as a member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). The record shows that Obama was in Hawaii from 1971-1979, where, at some point in time, he developed a close relationship, almost like a son, with Davis, listening to his “poetry” and getting advice on his career path. But Obama, in his book, Dreams From My Father, refers to him repeatedly as just “Frank.”
The reason is apparent: Davis was a known communist who belonged to a party subservient to the Soviet Union. In fact, the 1951 report of the Commission on Subversive Activities to the Legislature of the Territory of Hawaii identified him as a CPUSA member. What’s more, anti-communist congressional committees, including the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), accused Davis of involvement in several communist-front organizations.

Philadelphia election officials recently accused ACORN, of filing multiple fraudulent voter registrations during the 2008 Pennsylvania primary. The case has been referred to the U.S. Attorney’s office, according to Philadelphia Deputy Election Commissioner Fred Voight.
Delaware County election officials have made similar allegations against the group, and criminal indictments are pending.
This past July 24, Dauphin County detectives offered a $2,000 reward for information about the whereabouts of Luis R. Torres-Serrano, an ACORN worker, who was accused of submitting more than 100 fraudulent voter registrations.
ACORN’s legal problems with their voter registration efforts stretch beyond state boundaries.
The Milwaukee district attorney is investigating 39 ACORN employees for criminal violations, including offering gifts to sign up voters and falsifying driver’s license numbers, Social Security numbers or other information on voter registration cards.
Five ACORN employees were convicted and imprisoned in Washington state, in 2007, for what was described by Washington’s Secretary of State Sam Reed, as, “was the worst case of election fraud in our state’s history. It was an outrage.”
“(ACORN) Workers … said they were under pressure from the community-organizing group that hired them to sign up more voters,” The Seattle Times reported . “Workers told investigators they went to the Seattle public library and filled out the voter registration forms, by using contrived names, addresses and Social Security numbers and in some cases plucked names from the phone book.”
Numerous ACORN-related indictments and, or convictions, have been seeded across the country in recent years.
Four part-time ACORN employees were indicted in Kansas City, Mo., for voter registration fraud in November 2006. Two Colorado ACORN workers were sentenced to community service, in January 2005, for submitting false voter registrations.
During the 2004 election, ACORN, and its sister group Project Vote, ran a nationwide voter mobilization drive that was rife with allegations of voter fraud. A worker for one ACORN affiliate in Ohio was allegedly given crack cocaine in exchange for fraudulent registrations that included underage voters, dead voters and voters named Mary Poppins, Dick Tracy and Jive Turkey. Four Ohio ACORN employees were indicted by a federal grand jury for submitting false voter registration forms.
The New York Times reported in July 2008 that a whistleblower forced the organization to publicly disclose an embezzlement of almost $1 million in 1999 and 2000, involving Dale Rathke, the brother of the organization’s founder Wade Rathke.
Some ACORN executives kept the information from board members and did not tell law enforcement. Meanwhile, Dale Rathke remained on the payroll until June 2008, when disclosure of his theft forced the organization to dismiss him.
Several municipal clerks across the state are reporting fraudulent and duplicate voter registration applications, most of them from a nationwide community activist group working to help low- and moderate-income families.
The majority of the problem applications are coming from the group ACORN, Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, which has a large voter registration program among its many social service programs. ACORN’s Michigan branch, based in Detroit, has enrolled 200,000 voters statewide in recent months, mostly with the use of paid, part-time employees.
“There appears to be a sizeable number of duplicate and fraudulent applications,” said Kelly Chesney, spokeswoman for the Michigan Secretary of State’s Office. “And it appears to be widespread.”
Chesney said her office has had discussions with ACORN officials after local clerks reported the questionable applications to the state. Chesney said some of the applications are duplicates and some appear to be names that have been made up. The Secretary of State’s Office has turned over several of the applications to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office on Friday declined to confirm whether an investigation was taking place.
In recent years, ACORN’s voter registration programs have come under investigation in Ohio, Colorado, Missouri and Washington, with some employees convicted of voter fraud.

In Missouri, ACORN and its union allies credit the minimum-wage issue with helping put Democrat Claire McCaskill over the top in her challenge to Republican incumbent Sen. Jim Talent. RNC blasts ACORN vote drivers as “quasi criminal…friends of Barack Obama”
Seminole County’s election supervisor, Mike Ertel, found two suspicious voter registrations that were potentially submitted by Democratic-affiliated ACORN, according to this WESH article, broken first by an Orlando radio station WDBO.
The Republican National Committee’s chief legal counsel, Sean Cairncross, said ACORN (due to loads of controversial voter-reigstration issues throughout the nation) was “quasi criminal” and said “these are the friends and allies of Barack Obama,” a former community organizer who did work for ACORN in Illinois in the past.
Milwaukee official is announcing the criminal investigations of 37 ACORN employees. Further, Larry Sandler of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that 10 additional voter registration workers are facing criminal charges.
ACORN explained that this was an “isolated” incident, yet similar stories have been reported in Missouri, Michigan, Ohio, and Colorado — all swing states, by the way. And, as Sol Stern reported in City Journal, ACORN also found a remunerative niche as an “advisor” to banks seeking regulatory approval. “Thus we have J.P. We wish this were an aberration, but allegations of fraud have tainted Acorn voter drives across the country. Acorn workers have been convicted in Wisconsin and Colorado, and investigations are still under way in Ohio, Tennessee and Pennsylvania.

unscrupulous campaign workers in several Michigan counties are under
investigation for voter-registration fraud, suspected of attempting to
register nonexistent people or forging applications for already-registered
voters.” ACORN-affiliate Project Vote was one of two groups suspected of
turning in the documents.
MO 2007 Four ACORN employees were indicted in Kansas City for
charges including identity theft and filing false registrations during the
2006 election.
2006 Eight ACORN employees in St. Louis were indicted on federal
election fraud charges. Each of the eight faces up to five years in prison
for forging signatures and submitting false information.
2003 Of 5,379 voter registration cards ACORN submitted in St.
Louis, only 2,013 of those appeared to be valid. At least 1,000 are believed
to be attempts to register voters illegally.
NC 2004 North Carolina officials investigated ACORN for
submitting fake voter registration cards.
NM 2005 Four ACORN employees submitted as many as 3,000
potentially fraudulent signatures on the group’s Albuquerque ballot
initiative. A local sheriff added: “It’s safe to say the forgery was
widespread.”
2004 An ACORN employee registered a 13-year-old boy to vote.
Citing this and other examples, New Mexico State Representative Joe Thompson
stated that ACORN was “manufacturing voters” throughout New Mexico.
OH 2007 A man in Reynoldsburg was indicted on two felony counts
of illegal voting and false registration, after being registered by ACORN to
vote in two separate counties.
2004 A grand jury indicted a Columbus ACORN worker for submitting
a false signature and false voter registration form. In Franklin County, two
ACORN workers submitted what the director of the board of election
supervisors called “blatantly false” forms. In Cuyahoga County, ACORN and
its affiliate Project Vote submitted registration cards that had the highest
rate of errors for any voter registration group.
MN 2004 During a traffic stop, police found more than 300 voter
registration cards in the trunk of a former ACORN employee, who had violated
a legal requirements that registration cards be submitted to the Secretary
of State within 10 days of being filled out and signed.
PA 2008 An ACORN employee in West Reading, PA, was sentenced to
up to 23 months in prison for identity theft and tampering with records. A
second ACORN worker pleaded not guilty to the same charges and is free on
$10,000 bail.
TX 2004 ACORN turned in the voter registration form of David
Young, who told reporters “The signature is not my signature. It’s not even
close.” His social security number and date of birth were also incorrect.
VA 2005 In 2005, the Virginia State Board of Elections
admonished Project Vote and ACORN for turning in a significant number of
faulty voter registrations. An audit revealed that 83% of sampled
registrations that were rejected for carrying false or questionable
information were submitted by Project Vote. Many of these registrations
carried social security numbers that exist for other people, listed
non-existent or commercial addresses, or were for convicted felons in
violation of state and federal election law.
WA 2007 Three ACORN employees pleaded guilty, and four more were
charged, in the worst case of voter registration fraud in Washington state
history. More than 2,000 fraudulent voter registration cards were submitted
by the group during a voter registration drive.
WI 2004 The district attorney’s office investigated seven voter
registration applications Project Vote employees filed in the names of
people who said the group never contacted them. Former Project Vote employee
Robert Marquise Blakely told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he had not
met with any of the people whose voter registration applications he signed,
“an apparent violation of state law,” according to the paper.
