The American Civil Liberties Union is trumpeting a judge’s decision in Michigan which brings to a halt the practice of eliminating voters from rolls if their mailing address is found to be invalid.
Recently, the GOP chairman in Macomb County, Michigan, detailed a plan to use a list of foreclosed homes to challenge voters. His pronouncement drew an immediate backlash, with predictions that the plan would “backfire.”
It has.
The suit, filed by ACLU national and ACLU of Michigan, along with the Advancement Project, aimed to protect voters whose registration cards were returned to government offices by post as ‘undeliverable.’ Judge Stephen J. Murphy of the U.S. District Court of Michigan’s Eastern District concluded that the program of eliminating these voters from rolls is in violation of federal law.
The voter purge program, better known to elections integrity experts as ‘voter caging,’ is a long-storied GOP tactic employed against minority, student and low-income voters. In September, the Obama campaign filed a lawsuit in Michigan challenging the illegal tactic.
“You essentially send a first-class letter to a hoursehold where you suspect that that person no longer lives there but where they’re still registered to vote,” explained Allen Raymond, a convicted GOP elections fraudster who spent time in prison after the discovery of a phone-jamming scheme during the 2002 elections. “That letter comes back. … Somebody [at the local polling place] then challenges that vote if that person comes in to vote.”

Golly, for a group that’s committed so much “voter fraud” for so long (if you’re gullible enough to believe the lies that RNC/FNC has been telling you) it’s mighty strange that, as News One notes, “McCain attended an ACORN convention just two years ago.”
The once-honorable Republican’s campaign has even seen fit to produce a video smear ad, attempting to tar Obama with “associations” to ACORN, and alleging the group has committed “massive voter fraud” to boot! (They’ve yet to produce any actual evidence for that, unfortunately.)
But more than just attending the ACORN-sponsored February 2006 rally, ACORN confirms in a statement today that McCain was actually the keynote speaker!
So now, they wonder, why it is that McCain seems to have “lost that loving feeling?”
“It has deeply saddened us to see Senator McCain abandon his historic support for ACORN and our efforts to support the goals of low-income Americans. Maybe it is out of desperation that Senator McCain has forgotten that he was for ACORN before he was against ACORN,” noted Bertha Lewis, Chief Organizer of ACORN.
“We expected Senator McCain to support our efforts to give voice to millions of Americans who have never participated in an election before,” she continued. “We are surprised at his efforts to vilify an organization that, until recently, he saw as an ally.”
Hmmm…So, why was John McCain “palling around with” an organization that “has violated more Americans’ civil rights to have their votes counted than any group since the KKK,” as described by noted Florida ‘vote-rigger’ and McCain surrogate Rep. Tom Feeney (R-Abramoff)? Or was Feeney speaking out of school? If so, we’ve yet to hear McCain condemning the outrageous remarks, or distancing himself from Feeney, the three time winner of CREW’s “Most Corrupt Members of Congress” Award.

Palin mistakes fans for protesters at Va. rally
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin accidentally mistook some of her own fans for protesters Monday.
A massive crowd of at least 20,000 spread across the parking lot of Richmond International Raceway. Many on the outer periphery, more than 100 yards from the stage, couldn’t hear.
They started chanting, “Louder! Louder!” Palin thought they were protesters, looked toward them and said, “I hope those protesters have the courage and honor to give veterans thanks for their right to protest.”
Some in the crowd had stood in place for more than three hours on a sunny day without shade.

Obama increasing lead in 4 battleground states:

When Christopher Buckley, a novelist and former speechwriter for George H.W. Bush, announced last week that he would vote for Obama (his first vote ever for a Democrat), he referred to words once spoken to him by his late father. “You know,” the conservative hero William F. Buckley Jr. said, “I’ve spent my entire lifetime separating the right from the kooks.”

Nautical metaphors could sink Obama

A newly discovered anecdote from Bill Ayers’ 1993 book “To Teach” solidifies the case that he is indeed the muse behind Barack Obama’s “Dreams From My Father.”
In the book, Ayers tells the story of an adventurous teacher who would take her students out to the streets of New York to learn interesting life lessons about the culture and history of the city.
As Ayers tells it, the students were fascinated by the Hudson River nearby and asked to see it. When they got to the river’s edge, one student said, “Look, the river is flowing up.” A second student said, “No, it has to flow south-down.”
Not knowing which was right, the teacher and the students did their research. What they discovered, writes Ayers, was “that the Hudson River is a tidal river, that it flows both north and south, and they had visited the exact spot where the tide stops its northward push.”
In his 1995 book, “Dreams From My Father,” Barack Obama shares an intriguing story from his own brief New York sojourn.
He tells of meeting with “Marty Kauffman” at a Lexington Avenue diner, the man from Chicago who was trying to recruit him as a community organizer.
After the meeting, Obama “took the long way home, along the East River promenade.” As “a long brown barge rolled through the gray waters toward the sea,” Obama sat down on a bench to consider his options.
While sitting, he noticed a black woman and her young son against the railing. Overly fond of the too well remembered detail, Obama observes, “They stood side by side, his arm wrapped around her leg, a single silhouette against the twilight.”
The boy appeared to ask his mother a question that she could not answer and then approached Obama:
“Excuse me, mister,” he shouted. “You know why sometimes the river runs that way and then sometimes it goes this way?”
The woman smiled and shook her head, and I said it probably had to do with the tides.
Obama uses the seeming indecisiveness of this tidal river as a metaphor for his own. Immediately afterwards, he shakes the indecision and heads for Chicago.
This one anecdote holds a host of problems for Obama. For one, the East River would be hugely out of his way no matter where he lived in New York and especially if he lived anywhere near the Columbia campus on the upper West Side.
More troubling, his serendipitous journey to the river enables him to tell a story that is transparently fabricated and almost assuredly hatched in the weathered brain of Bill Ayers.
Even were there no other clues, Obama’s frequent and sophisticated use of nautical metaphors makes a powerful case for Ayers’ involvement in the writing of “Dreams.”
Despite growing up in Hawaii, Obama gives no indication than he has had any real experience with the sea or ships. His answer to the boy that the backflow “probably had to do with the tides,” if anything, confirms his inexperience.
Ayers, however, knew a great deal about the sea. After dropping out of college, he took up the life of a merchant seaman.
“I’d thought that when I signed on that I might write an American novel about a young man at sea,” says Ayers in his memoir, “Fugitive Days,” “but I didn’t have it in me.”
The experience had a powerful impact on Ayers. Years later, he would recall a nightmare he had while crossing the Atlantic, “a vision of falling overboard in the middle of the ocean and swimming as fast as I could as the ship steamed off and disappeared over the horizon.”
Although Ayers has tried to put his anxious ocean-going days behind him, the language of the sea will not let him go.
“I realized that no one else could ever know this singular experience,” Ayers writes of his maritime adventures. Yet curiously, much of this same nautical language flows through Obama’s earth-bound memoir.
“Memory sails out upon a murky sea,” Ayers writes at one point. Indeed, both he and Obama are obsessed with memory and its instability. The latter writes of its breaks, its blurs, its edges, its lapses. Obama also has a fondness for the word “murky” and its aquatic usages.
“The unlucky ones drift into the murky tide of hustles and odd jobs,” he writes, one of four times “murky” appears in “Dreams.”
Ayers and Obama also speak often of waves and wind, Obama at least a dozen times on wind alone. “The wind wipes away my drowsiness, and I feel suddenly exposed,” he writes in a typical passage. Both also make conspicuous use of the word “flutter.”
Not surprisingly, Ayers uses “ship” as a metaphor with some frequency. Early in the book he tells us that his mother is “the captain of her own ship,” not a substantial one either but “a ragged thing with fatal leaks” launched into a “sea of carelessness.”
Obama, too, finds himself “feeling like the first mate on a sinking ship.” He also makes a metaphorical reference to “a tranquil sea.”
More intriguing is Obama’s use of the word “ragged” as an adjective as in the highly poetic “ragged air” or “ragged laughter.”
Both books use “storms” and “horizons” both as metaphor and as reality. Ayers writes poetically of an “unbounded horizon,” and Obama writes of “boundless prairie storms” and poetic horizons – “violet horizon,” “eastern horizon,” “western horizon.”
Ayers often speaks of “currents” and “pockets of calm,” as does Obama, who uses both as nouns as in “a menacing calm” or “against the current” or “into the current.”
The metaphorical use of the word “tangled” might also derive from one’s nautical adventures. Ayers writes of his “tangled love affairs” and Obama of his “tangled arguments.”
In “Dreams,” we read of the “whole panorama of life out there” and in “Fugitive Days,” “the whole weird panorama.” Ayers writes of still another panorama, this one “an immense panorama of waste and cruelty.”
Obama employs the word “cruel” and its derivatives no fewer than 14 times in “Dreams.”
On at least 12 occasions, Obama speaks of “despair,” as in the “ocean of despair.” Ayers speaks of a “deepening despair,” a constant theme for him as well.
Obama’s “knotted, howling assertion of self” sounds like something from the pages of Jack London’s “The Sea Wolf.”
My own semi-memoir, “Sucker Punch,” offers a useful control. It makes no reference at all, metaphorical or otherwise, to ships, seas, oceans, calms, storms, wind, waves, horizons, panoramas, or to things howling, fluttering, knotted, ragged, tangled, or murky.
None. And yet I have spent a good chunk of every summer of my life at the ocean.
If there is any one paragraph in “Dreams” that has convinced me of Ayers’ involvement, it is this one, in which Obama describes the black nationalist message:
“A steady attack on the white race … served as the ballast that could prevent the ideas of personal and communal responsibility from tipping into an ocean of despair.”
As a writer, especially in the pre-Google era of “Dreams,” I would never have used a metaphor as specific as “ballast” unless I knew exactly what I was talking about.
Seaman Ayers most surely did.

Let’s see, people are registered to vote where they do not live, the aclu and a “great” judge say they can vote there anyway, and that is something to crow about ?
Yeah, right.
Acorn is deep in the pockets of the democrats. These people are Obama buddies. All across the country they have been caught trying to register the dead, the young, sports names and now here’s Mickey Mouse in Florida.

John McCain to unveil new economic measures
PHILADELPHIA — Seeking to address the economic woes of American families in this final stretch of the campaign, John McCain will unveil new economic measures today in Pennsylvania that would include slashing the top tax rate on capital gains in half — a move the campaign hopes will help stimulate the shaky economy.
Obama and his Chicago connections. I hope we find out the facts on the Messiah before it’s too late. He is pulling the wool over a lot of people.

“He is pulling the wool over a lot of people.”
Everyone LOVED their wool blankets when it was bushco tying them around their eyes.
Just think how different the world would be if voters had, over the last eight years, grown a brain instead of electing a war mongering oil whore.
But then, thinking isnt what americans like george are good at.
Just tuck that blankie in tighter and vote for the guy you’d love to have a beer with.
nitwits
I know it will make george’s pea brain explode, but…
You do know that the biggest socialist program in the world, the largest freebee of tax dollars being handed out, this bailout of Wall Street, was proposed by… wait for it…
george bush
(Taking cover now from the brain splatter)
I’m really tired of all these republican ephiphanies now, when it’s all too little too late.
you cons and repukes bought the boy king. He broke the country, and now you have to pay.
Deal with it.
But hey, what REALLY matters is… you are STILL safe from gay marriage.
nitwits
We must remember, AND PLEASE DON’T FORGET, Americans elected bush — twice.
No resting on laurels, no letting the guard down, keep working, half of Americans are below average and even tho it took some help from the Court and Diebold –
bush was elected TWICE!
That ought to be enough to get every American with a brain out working, and out to vote against four more years of the idiot in charge!
A maverick no more
BACK IN December, when we endorsed John McCain in the Republican presidential primaries, we wrote that he would conduct a campaign of “substance, not demagoguery.” We didn’t count on the other John McCain – the one who showed up for the general election. Whether in thrall to his handlers or his own ambition, McCain has abandoned respectful discussion of differences for a trough of pandering and invective.
Well before he won the nomination, McCain started trimming his principles to fit the requirements of the party’s activist base. He reversed his opposition to the costly Bush tax cuts and now favors extending them. He abandoned his own thoughtful comprehensive immigration reform package and now focuses on border control. Most disturbing, perhaps, the man who was tortured in Vietnam supported Bush’s veto of legislation banning torture by US intelligence agencies.
His reputation as a maverick, always a bit overburnished by his own retelling, is now in tatters.
McCain’s alarming choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate came only after more moderate and experienced candidates whom McCain preferred were rejected by his operatives. The choice of Palin – whom we would find unqualified even if she didn’t hold such extreme policy views – was a cynical ploy aimed at exciting ideological conservatives and luring disgruntled supporters of Hillary Clinton. McCain likes to complain that Democrat Barack Obama has never taken on his party leaders, but McCain can’t even control his hired staff.
Campaigns are crucibles, and this one has revealed McCain to be erratic, out of touch with ordinary Americans, and, with Palin as his shotgun messenger, too quick with the sneer, smear, and division. He has been a profound disappointment, and he is unfit to lead the nation into its perilous future.

Colorado Woman Crashes Car While Breaking Up Fight Between Cats
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — A driver whose vehicle rolled on Interstate 70 after she tried to break up a fight between two cats riding on her lap ended up in the hospital, Colorado State Troopers said.
The woman, whose name was not released, suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The crash happened Monday near DeBeque. A car and a semitrailer both swerved off the road so they wouldn’t hit the woman’s vehicle.
The woman, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ticketed for careless driving.
“I am also given to understand that the APS has adopted a policy of declaring what amounts to no more than a religious belief in the notion of dangerous anthropogenic “global warming”. It is questionable whether a scientific society should adopt religious or political positions on matters of legitimate debate, particularly during a period when the computer predictions upon which the APS’ policy is imprudently founded have been proven incompetent and false by seven full years of global cooling that has occurred notwithstanding record increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration. Not one of the AOGCMs relied upon by the IPCC predicted that cooling. One has only to look at the IPCC’s table of natural and anthropogenic forcings to appreciate that none of those forcings can explain the failure of temperatures to rise as predicted: indeed, according to the UAH satellite record, 2008 may well turn out to be cooler than 1980 – 28 years ago.
“The only logically-justifiable scientific conclusions are either that natural variability even over quite long periods is sufficient altogether to overthrow the anthropogenic signal in the temperature record (in which event, by the same token, the warming from 1975-1998 may well have been largely natural, and it would certainly not be possible to say there was a 90% probability that it was chiefly anthropogenic), or that the radiative forcing from carbon dioxide enrichment is, as my paper and many others find it to be, considerably smaller than the exaggerated and now-falsified estimates of the IPCC (in which event “global warming” is self-evidently a non-problem).”

Obama and Acorn
Community organizers, phony voters, and your tax dollars.
“All this money gives Acorn the ability to pursue its other great hobby: electing liberals. Acorn is spending $16 million this year to register new Democrats and is already boasting it has put 1.3 million new voters on the rolls. The big question is how many of these registrations are real.”
“During his tenure on the board of Chicago’s Woods Fund, that body funneled more than $200,000 to Acorn. More recently, the Obama campaign paid $832,000 to an Acorn affiliate. The campaign initially told the Federal Election Commission this money was for “staging, sound, lighting.” It later admitted the cash was to get out the vote.”

The GOP Is a Mess and a Fraud
WASHINGTON — Since George W. Bush became president, the Republican Party has presided over massive, out-of-control government spending, converted a federal budget surplus into a half-trillion-dollar deficit, and looked the other way while Wall Street’s greed and stupidity turned the hallowed free market into scorched earth. Now the party has to watch as a Republican president orchestrates the biggest government intervention into the workings of the private sector since the New Deal.
Can any Republican candidate claim with a straight face to represent the party of small government? For that matter, can any Republican candidate plausibly explain what the party is supposed to stand for these days?

Wisdom from Boortz. Wasted on some of you, I know.
OBAMA A JOB KILLING MACHINE
One of the amazing things about this election is that there are so many people out there who are eager to vote for Obama are people who are very concerned about their jobs … and yet Obama is by far the greater threat to their job security of the two. Just two examples:
Obama wants to raise taxes on the very people who we depend on for 70% of existing jobs and 80% of new jobs. Obama hides these tax increases behind his class warfare rhetoric saying that he is only going to raise taxes on people who make over $250,000 a year. The problem here is most of America’s small businessmen and women fall smack dab into this territory. They run a small business, they employ several people, and they report all of their business income on their personal tax returns. Just what do you think happens when their taxes go up? Do they take the hit themselves? Not if they can help it, they don’t. They look for ways to cut businesses expenses to compensate for the tax increase. Well, guess what? You’re a business expense. Good luck with that.
Obama wants to eliminate secret ballots in union elections, and he has the full Democrat congress ready to go along. This will mean that the Democrat’s precious unions will be able to organize a workplace simply by intimidating a majority of the workers to sign a petition saying they want to unionize? Secret ballot? No way! Now when this so-called “Card Check” bill passes businesses are going to be looking for an escape valve … a way to avoid having to deal with a union workplace. After all, we see how it worked out for the American auto industry. How do you escape? You pack up and move to a more business-friendly location. Millions of jobs have already fled our shores to escape our punishing tax system. Now will millions more run for the hills to escape forced-unionization? Businesses that can’t flee? They’ll be looking for ways to increase automation and reduce the number of employees. Count on it.
But that’s OK. Obama has the rhetoric. He has the narrative. He has celebrity worship and mass hysteria behind him. It’s going to be an interesting four (or two) years.
http://boortz.com/nuze/index.html
“I would love to have my daughter drafted to go fight in rowanda.”
She wouldn’t have to fight under an Obama presidency. She would be used to augment UN ‘Peace Keeping’ forces. She’d probably have a good chance of being killed for her country, but for heaven’s sake, she wouldn’t be expected to fight!
Another reason not to place too much stock in the polls.
Will Obama suffer from the ‘Bradley effect’?
* Story Highlights
* Tom Bradley, an African-American, lost election for California governor in 1982
* Exit polls had him ahead; theory is people said they voted for him when they did not
* Some analysts say “Bradley effect” could cost African-American candidate 6 points
* No indication that Bradley effect has been a factor in recent statewide races
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/13/obama.bradley.effect/index.html
Would the guy have showed up with his Mickey Mouse ears on to vote?
This smacks of either an open prank, or someone out to discredit the registration process.
Farmhag,
C’mon – give us a “Jesus WEPT”
I just don’t feel balanced until I read that from you each day.
Please? For me?
This smacks of either an open prank, or someone out to discredit the registration process.
=====
My thoughts exactly, seems pretty blatant.
Just a question for all the striking union members out there.
When you vote for the One and he imposes his healthcare plan, who are you going to “strike” to get better health care?
Obama is “the one”
Remember, Obama will be President.
why?
1) Obama is not Bush
2) McCain is a lousy candidate
3) Obama is not Bush
4) Palin was a lousy vp candidate
5) Obama is not Bush
6) The Democrats are so convinced (I don’t care) that the election was stolen from the demigod Al Gore, and their wonderboy Kerry that they want it back, they don;t care if they have to steal it or not. Turn about is fair play, as far as they are concerned
7) Obama is not Bush
8) ONly Republican lapses of character, ethics, morals, and the law count against them. Democrats (as a party-not individuals) don;t have any.
9) Obama is not Bush
10) Shady characters in the past and present relationships only count against Republicans, not Democrats
11) Sorry, one two long.. OBAMA IS NOT BUSH!
Thank God, Obama is not bush. The country is reeling from 8 yrs. of bush is bush! Mccain is like bush, Palin is like bush. ENOUGH!
-snip-
Now that it’s election time, the party — as usual — is trying to convince Americans that it stands on the side of the little guy. Sarah Palin has been trotted out to convince everyone that the party cares deeply about the eternal roster of cultural issues — God, guns, gays, abortion, etc. If McCain and Palin were elected, the party would doubtless return these issues to the storage locker until the next election, at which point they would be dusted off once more.
Oh, and isn’t the Republican Party supposed to stand foursquare against intrusions on privacy? Then why were Republicans so unmoved when it was revealed that the Bush administration had been conducting unprecedented surveillance of Americans’ private electronic communications?
When Ronald Reagan was president, I had a sense of what ideas and principles his party stood for. When Newt Gingrich and his “Contract with America” brigade took Washington by storm in 1994, I knew what they believed — loopy though it was — and what they hoped to accomplish. I defy anyone to give a coherent explanation of what today’s Republican Party, under George Bush and now John McCain, wants to do except perpetuate itself in power.
When a political party reaches the point of lurching incoherence, the most effective cure is a good, long spell in the wilderness. Americans should help Republicans out by sending them home to get their act together.

And, bush was elected TWICE!
Never forget. Only three more weeks. Don’t let your guard down, keep working!
I would laugh my ass off, then cry, if McCain won the election.
Me, I consider it a tie. Neither are worth voting for. I will vote for the write in candidate “none of the above”
Just heard a snippit from a Howard Stern on the street in Harlem episode. They asked the participants who they were voting for. If they said Obama they then asked them if they disagreed with his pro-life position – they didn’t- they were then asked if they agreed with his policy to leave troops in Iraq until we won – they were fine with that – they then asked what they thought of his VP choice Sarah Palin. They all thought she was great and really helped Obama’s ticket.
These people are voting! Probably signed up by ACORN.

——————————————-
That is about as silly as hearing a democrap talking about a tax cut.
I don’t know about ya’ll, but this year, I’m voting for Obama/McCain in ‘08!
Ahhhhh, yeeaaaah!
“At the recent Emmy Awards, historian Laura Linney averred that America’s Founders had been “community organizers” — like Barack Obama. Too bad they aren’t like that any more. Mr. Obama’s kind of organizers work at Acorn, the militant advocacy group that is turning up in reports about voter fraud across the country.
Acorn uses various affiliated groups to agitate for “a living wage,” for “affordable housing,” for “tax justice” and union and environmental goals, as well as against school choice and welfare reform. It was a major contributor to the subprime meltdown by pushing lenders to make home loans on easy terms, conducting “strikes” against banks so they’d lower credit standards.
But the organization’s real genius is getting American taxpayers to foot the bill. According to a 2006 report from the Employment Policies Institute (EPI), Acorn has been on the federal take since 1977. For instance, Acorn’s American Institute for Social Justice claimed $240,000 in tax money between fiscal years 2002 and 2003. Its American Environmental Justice Project received 100% of its revenue from government grants in the same years. EPI estimates the Acorn Housing Corporation alone received some $16 million in federal dollars from 1997-2007. Only recently, Democrats tried and failed to stuff an “affordable housing” provision into the $700 billion bank rescue package that would have let politicians give even more to Acorn.
All this money gives Acorn the ability to pursue its other great hobby: electing liberals. Acorn is spending $16 million this year to register new Democrats and is already boasting it has put 1.3 million new voters on the rolls. The big question is how many of these registrations are real.
The Michigan Secretary of State told the press in September that Acorn had submitted “a sizeable number of duplicate and fraudulent applications.” Earlier this month, Nevada’s Democratic Secretary of State Ross Miller requested a raid on Acorn’s offices, following complaints of false names and fictional addresses (including the starting lineup of the Dallas Cowboys). Nevada’s Clark County Registrar of Voters Larry Lomax said he saw rampant fraud in 2,000 to 3,000 applications Acorn submitted weekly.
Officials in Ohio are investigating voter fraud connected with Acorn, and Florida’s Seminole County is withholding Acorn registrations that appear fraudulent. New Mexico, North Carolina and Missouri are looking into hundreds of dubious Acorn registrations. Wisconsin is investigating Acorn employees for, according to an election official, “making people up or registering people that were still in prison.”
Then there’s Lake County, Indiana, which has already found more than 2,100 bogus applications among the 5,000 Acorn dumped right before the deadline. “All the signatures looked exactly the same,” said Ruthann Hoagland, of the county election board. Bridgeport, Connecticut estimates about 20% of Acorn’s registrations were faulty. As of July, the city of Houston had rejected or put on hold about 40% of the 27,000 registration cards submitted by Acorn.
That’s just this year. In 2004, four Acorn employees were indicted in Ohio for submitting false voter registrations. In 2005, two Colorado Acorn workers were found to have submitted false registrations. Four Acorn Missouri employees were indicted in 2006; five were found guilty in Washington state in 2007 for filling out registration forms with names from a phone book.
Which brings us to Mr. Obama, who got his start as a Chicago “community organizer” at Acorn’s side. In 1992 he led voter registration efforts as the director of Project Vote, which included Acorn. This past November, he lauded Acorn’s leaders for being “smack dab in the middle” of that effort. Mr. Obama also served as a lawyer for Acorn in 1995, in a case against Illinois to increase access to the polls.
During his tenure on the board of Chicago’s Woods Fund, that body funneled more than $200,000 to Acorn. More recently, the Obama campaign paid $832,000 to an Acorn affiliate. The campaign initially told the Federal Election Commission this money was for “staging, sound, lighting.” It later admitted the cash was to get out the vote.
The Obama campaign is now distancing itself from Acorn, claiming Mr. Obama……Yet it’s disingenuous to channel cash into an operation with a history of fraud and then claim you’re shocked to discover reports of fraud. As with Rev. Jeremiah Wright and William Ayers, Mr. Obama was happy to associate with Acorn when it suited his purposes. But now that he’s on the brink of the Presidency, he wants to disavow his ties.
The Justice Department needs to treat these fraud reports as something larger than a few local violators. The question is whether Acorn is systematically subverting U.S. election law — on the taxpayer’s dime.” WSJ
Now if ACORN is so great, why is Obama once again “distancing himself” from another of his cronies?
Hmmmmmmm? Democrats?

Vote drives defended, despite fake names
By Richard Danielson, Times Staff Writer
In print: Tuesday, October 14, 2008
Mickey Mouse tried to register to vote in Florida this summer.
Orange County elections officials rejected his application, which was stamped with the logo of the nonprofit group ACORN.
Under attack again, ACORN leaders defend their work. Often, they say, things are as not simple as they’re portrayed.
Take Mickey Mouse.
Yes, that’s their logo. But they say their workers routinely scanned all suspicious applications.
“We don’t think this card came through our system,” said Brian Kettenring, ACORN’s head organizer in Florida.
Brevard County elections officials have turned over 23 suspect registrations from ACORN to prosecutors. The state Division of Elections has received two ACORN-related complaints, in Orange and Broward counties.
ACORN wasn’t active in the Tampa Bay area. Last week, however, Pinellas County elections officials gave local prosecutors 35 questionable registrations from another group, Work for Progress.
Pay to gather registrations started at $8 an hour, and the goal was 20 signups per day. The organization did not pay by the signature or pay bonuses for volume. The organization also tried to follow up on each registration, calling the person listed to confirm that the form is accurate.
In most states, ACORN must turn in every form that is filled out. “We must turn in every voter registration card by Florida law, even Mickey Mouse,” Kettenring said.
ACORN also played a role in the firing of one of nine U.S. attorneys dismissed in 2006.
In New Mexico, U.S. Attorney David Iglesias was fired “because of complaints by elected officials who had a political interest in the outcome” of, among other things, a Republican voter fraud complaint against ACORN, according to an internal Justice Department report last month.
This year, 39 members of the House of Representatives have asked Attorney General Michael Mukasey to investigate ACORN.
One of those, Rep. Tom Feeney, R-Oviedo, also has written to supervisor of elections offices in Central Florida seeking “all ACORN-related registration of voters within the last two years.”
ACORN’s political action committee has endorsed Obama, but the group says its voter registration efforts are nonpartisan.
NONPARTISAN? (ha-ha ho-ho choking down lunch)
There was enough Mickey Mouse activities going on in the last Presidential election in Florida. We don’t need ACORN rottening the place up again.
Here it is. For the democrats who said that no crime takes place until Mickey Mouse actually votes. Well here is what promises to be a long line of Mikey Mouses commiting fraud (on behalf of ACORN=OBAMA):
By JEANE MacINTOSH in Cleveland and MAGGIE HABERMAN in New York Post
Investigators probing ACORN have learned that an Ohio man registered to vote several times and cast a bogus ballot with a fake address, officials said yesterday, as they revealed that nearly 4,000 registration applications supplied by the left-leaning activist group were suspect.
The vote of Darnell Nash, one of four people subpoenaed in a Cuyahoga County probe of ACORN’s voter-registration activities, was canceled and his case was turned over to local prosecutors and law enforcement, Board of Elections officials said yesterday.
Nash had registered to vote repeatedly from an address that belonged to a legitimately registered voter, officials said during a hearing at which the subpoenaed voters were to testify.
But still, he breezed into Ohio election offices – the state allows early voting for president – reregistered with a fake address and cast a paper ballot, officials said.
“He came in on 9/30 and Mr. Nash again registered to vote at [someone else's] address, and he cast a ballot,” said board official Jane Platten.

Rev. Arnold Conrad, in delivering an invocation at a rally today for John McCain in Davenport, Iowa, apparently didn’t get the word from the candidate about elevating the tone at such gatherings.
Conrad, who appeared before the crowd before McCain had arrived, offered a prayer that seemed to urge divine intervention to prevent Barack Obama from winning the presidential election — and cast the outcome as a referendum on differing religions.
The Times’ Maeve Reston was at the event, and she passed along the key passage from Conrad’s words:
I would also pray Lord that your reputation is involved in all that happens between now and November, because there are millions of people around this world praying to their God — whether it’s Hindu, Buddha, Allah — that his [McCain’s] opponent wins for a variety of reasons.
And Lord I pray that you would guard your own reputation, because they’re going to think that their god is bigger than you, if that happens. So I pray that you would step forward and honor your own name in all that happens between now and Election Day.
Oh Lord, we just commit this time to you, move among us, make your presence very well felt as we are gathered here today in Jesus’s name I pray.
Some in the crowd greeted the prayer with applause.
American_Way,
Why would the EDITORS give us a thread like that?
Isn’t it obvious that they are nothing but partisan hacks now and they are not even trying to hide it anymore?
From the complaints I’ve read here at WEBlog about posters not following the suggested thread topic, I’m wondering why anyone would need a specific intro before they post what they have to say? Plus, isn’t there a daily Open Thread that can and does become what posters want it to become? The topics most posters want to discuss that aren’t begun by the editorial board usually fill each day’s Open. Go for it, let’s hear everything you have to say!
I’ve told ya all this before. Obama’s 95% tax cut is going to involve NEGATIVE TAX RATES for most of the lower tax brackets.
Don’t ya understand Socialism? Tax Cuts when you don’t owe any taxes iz really Gov’t handouts, but OBAMA CALLS IT – tax cuts!

This is essentially Obama’s plan:
The Libs won’t be happy until they are paying a Negative Tax rate. That’s right, they want money back! Money taken back from the RICH and given to them!
Wealth redistribution would look like:

Top 1%___>$364,657___90%
Top 5%___>$145,283___100%
Top 10%__>$103,912___125%

Top 50%__> $30,881___175%

That’s right, the Top 50% would pay 175% of total taxes.
The Bottom 50% would steal 75% of the collected taxes. (Thieves that they are!)
Linda,
The point is that the Editors do guide discussion. Not every thread is derailed and most that are only become derailed later at night.
It has become fairly obvious to those of us who are not complete partisan hacks that the EDITORS are showing a real bias here on this blog.
Of course you don’t care because you happen to be on the side of that bias.
Obama, why don’t you be more honest and call your “tax cut” what it is:

Ayers will come up at debate, McCain says
The comments, during an interview with St. Louis radio station KMOX, come after Obama and Democratic VP candidate Joe Biden were sharply critical of McCain for targeting the Illinois senator over Ayers at campaign rallies, but not when the two last met for a presidential debate.
“I was astonished to hear him say that he was surprised I ‘didn’t have the guts’ to do that, because the fact is the question didn’t come up in that fashion,” McCain said of the last debate. “I think he’s probably ensured it will come up this time.”

Tax cuts to big oil?? Redistribution of wealth to EXXON, Standard Oil? Tell it like it is, McCain.
The Socialist Leftists will come back and say:
Yeah, well, but you gotta look at what share of the income all those nasty people have!
Looking at the taxes paid by the rich isn’t adequate, cause you need to consider what those rich people still have left after paying taxes! The Socialists don’t want to let the Rich keep anything. The Socialst not only want to make the Rich pay ALL OF THE INCOME TAXES, they want the RICH to give away their money directly to the POOR!
And DAT B Obama’s plan man!
Oh David,
You mean those tax cuts for oil companies that OBAMA voted for?
What? You mean Senator Ted Stevens hasn;t been convicted yet? I thought, according to th weblog, he as guilty, guilty, guilty. Apparently not
“WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens said he intended to take the witness stand in his own defense at his corruption trial, a step which would expose the veteran Republican lawmaker to questioning by prosecutors”
And since “innocent until proven guilty is Ameria, I guess he isn;t guilty. Man, did I get that wrong.
I don’t see why the people who enjoy the greatest benefits of America should shoulder the greatest burden.
If you can find a way to fund civilization without taxes.. please enlighten us.
Nathaniel,
I remember some threads where the only comments (and there weren’t that many) were about how the conservative posters begged for the thread, here it is, where are they.
Since we all know the goal of the editors is “hits,” it shouldn’t surprise anyone the lead-ins are those they hope will interest the most posters and generate the most comments, thus “hits.”
If the editors provided every thread you requested, would they generate interest? Hits? Comments?

Don’t get in a tizzy David, just look at the facts.
The bottom 50% pay little or no tax. How do you give them a tax cut?
You give them back more then what they paid in, that’s how.
And that is nothing more then a HANDOUT.
You Socialists should LOVE THAT PLAN!
Their differences lie essentially in emphasis, with Obama trying to convince voters that renewable, cleaner energy deserves as much if not more attention as conventional carbon-based choices.
“Obviously, our top priority should be to replace our reliance on fossil fuels,” he told the Greeley (Colo.) Tribune.
The Illinois senator’s voting record has been solidly behind this approach. He wants 25 percent of the nation’s electricity to come from renewable sources by 2025. He wants to improve energy efficiency by 50 percent by 2030. And he wants to end business as usual with oil companies.
In June 2007, Obama voted to remove oil- and gas-exploration subsidies. The same month, he voted to make oil-producing and -exporting cartels illegal. He also backs windfall profit taxes on petroleum companies.
McCain, too, vows to push alternative energy, though his record is less clear.

Just another day where the EDITORS continue on with their bias.
Exactly what “ethics law” did she violate?
—————-
Read the report
For the reasons explained in section IV of this report, I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act. Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) provides
“The legislature reaffirms that each public officer holds office as a public trust, and any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through official action is a violation of that trust.”

Up to a $5,000 fine may be imposed.
‘Windfall tax lets Alaska rake in billions from Big Oil‘
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2008103325_alaskatax07.html
“Then last year, Palin introduced a graduated tax pegged to increased oil prices. The state Legislature modified her proposal to increase the state’s take even further.
…
The tax is set at its highest rate in Prudhoe Bay, where the state takes 25 percent of the net profit of a barrel when its price is at or below $52.
The percentage then escalates as oil prices rise over that benchmark. Alaska gets about $49 of a $120 barrel, not counting other fees.”
———–
Also from above link — every Alaskan gets $3,200 this year.
“Palin’s administration last week gained legislative approval for a special $1,200 payment to every Alaskan to help cope with gas prices, which are among the highest in the country.
That check will come on top of the annual dividend of about $2,000 that each resident could receive this year from an oil-wealth savings account.”
————
http://money.cnn.com/2008/10/02/news/economy/palin_oil/?postversion=2008100316
“In late 2007 Palin succeeded in raising the tax on oil companies from 22.5 to 25% of net profits. Alaska also added a clause increasing the tax for each dollar oil goes above $52 a barrel – essentially, a windfall profits tax.
“Alaska gets about $49 of a $120 barrel, not counting other fees”
And they call the oil companies greedy bass turds. HAHAHA!

And they call the oil companies greedy bass turds. HAHAHA!
cosmos-
I don;t know if you intended to list that example of essentially a “windfall profits tax” to serve as a definition. If so, it doesn;t. It only shows the greedy government deciding that at some level of income (decided upon by the governent) they are going go confiscate as much as possible. Please define “windfall” if that was your intent.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Good question LJ. Why call names? To be mean? To serve as an exclamation point? For effect? Because it is fun? To be EVIL?
If you mean names like: Socialist, Liberal, Radical, or Leftist, then that is simply calling a spade a spade. If a Socialist doesn’t like being called a Socialist, then they can stop demanding handouts from Government and money which they have not EARNED, or in paying negative or no taxes while their neighbor pays more for the same piece of Government pie.
Or, they can get used to being called what they are. In fact, they should take pride in being Socialists if they are not ashamed of what they are doing.
If you mean a name like: Bass Turds, then well I suppose I could refrain from using such names. Maybe all on this blog could refuse to call each other names. Maybe when a conservative post is made, the response is no longer to automatically call the poster a name such as – Neocon, Nazi, Bigot, Racist, or Liar.
This good will gesture might last for several minutes even, but I could try – if others are up to it.

In a letter dated June 25, 2008, the FEC asked the Obama campaign to verify a series of $25 donations from a contributor identified as “Will, Good” from Austin, Texas.
Mr. Good Will listed his employer as “Loving” and his profession as “You.”
A Newsmax analysis of the 1.4 million individual contributions in the latest master file for the Obama campaign discovered 1,000 separate entries for Mr. Good Will, most of them for $25.
In total, Mr. Good Will gave $17,375.

sweet.
In July and August, the head of the Nigeria’s stock market held a series of pro-Obama fundraisers in Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city. The events attracted local Nigerian businesses owners.
At one event, a table of eight at one fundraising dinner went for $16,800. Nigerian press reports claimed sponsors raked in an estimated $900,000.
The sponsors said the fundraisers were held to help Nigerians attend the Democratic convention in Denver. But the Nigerian press expressed skepticism of that claim, and the Nigerian public anti-fraud commission is now investigating the matter.
Concerns about foreign fundraising have been raised by other anecdotal accounts of illegal activities.
In June, Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi gave a public speech praising Obama, claiming foreign nationals were donating to his campaign.
“All the people in the Arab and Islamic world and in Africa applauded this man,” the Libyan leader said. “They welcomed him and prayed for him and for his success, and they may have even been involved in legitimate contribution campaigns to enable him to win the American presidency…”
Though Gadhafi asserted that fundraising from Arab and African nations were “legitimate,” the fact is that U.S. federal law bans any foreigner from donating to a U.S. election campaign.

Thank you for proving that you do not understand computer models and the false information they have provided thus far

BREAKING STORY
MCCAIN TRANSITION CHIEF LOBBIED FOR SADAAM HUSSEIN
William Timmons, the Washington lobbyist who John McCain has named to head his presidential transition team, aided an influence effort on behalf of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein to ease international sanctions against his regime.
The two lobbyists who Timmons worked closely with over a five year period on the lobbying campaign later either pleaded guilty to or were convicted of federal criminal charges that they had acted as unregistered agents of Saddam Hussein’s government.
During the same period beginning in 1992, Timmons worked closely with the two lobbyists, Samir Vincent and Tongsun Park, on a previously unreported prospective deal with the Iraqis in which they hoped to be awarded a contract to purchase and resell Iraqi oil. Timmons, Vincent, and Park stood to share at least $45 million if the business deal went through.

“Arctic sea ice coverage appears to have reached its lowest extent for the year and the second-lowest amount recorded since the dawn of the satellite era, according to observations from the NASA-supported National Snow and Ice Data Center at the University of Colorado in Boulder.
While slightly above the record-low minimum set Sept. 16, 2007, this season further reinforces the strong negative trend in summer sea ice extent observed during the past 30 years. Before last year, the previous record low for September was set in 2005.

(CNN) — Amid a string of polls that suggest Democrats could be in striking distance of reaching a filibuster-proof majority, the Republican National Committee is considering taking out a loan to help endangered senators in key battleground states, a GOP strategist told CNN Tuesday.
The news comes a week after the RNC announced it had raised $66 million in September, its best fundraising month ever. But in an effort to keep pace with Barack Obama’s cash advantage over John McCain, those funds are going entirely toward the presidential race.
Meanwhile the National Republican Senatorial Committee has been largely outspent by its Democratic counterpart this cycle and the possibility of Democrats getting to the magic number of 60 seats in the Senate has become likely in the wake of the economic crisis.
It’s unclear what the size of the loan might be, but Politico reported Monday the amount could be as high as $5 million.
” But in an effort to keep pace with Barack Obama’s cash advantage over John McCain, those funds are going entirely toward the presidential race.”
Maybe the RNC will throw McPalin under the bus!

AmWay my parents told me that during the depression the crime rate went down. People were glad to help each other if they could. Most people still raised most of what they ate unlike today but poverty doesn’t make good people go bad it makes bad people get worse.
============================================================
And during the depression, my Dad when he was a whopping age 10, worked to make enough money to buy a .22 rifle from a catalogue! Rabbits and squirrels were good meat for a family.
Think about it, 10 year old kids ordering guns through catalogues with no major crime problem.
Senator, as you criticize me for lobbying, I find it absolutely amazing,” Slattery said. “Your own son lobbied for EADS-Airbus right here in Kansas, that affected this community, and he was working for EADS-Airbus on the (2006 defense authorization) bill that had the buy-America provisions in it.
“That’s what these lobbying reports show,” he said. “In addition, Sen. (Bob) Dole does some lobbying. There’s nothing terribly wrong with lobbying. What’s important is who you’ve been lobbying for.”
The EADS-Airbus comments were in reference to a bitter competition between Northrop Grumman Corp. and Boeing Co. to build the Air Force its next-generation tanker. Northrop is paired with the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co., the parent of Airbus, to build the tanker on an Airbus plane.
Boeing has offered a U.S. built airframe and much of the conversion work would be done in Wichita.
As Slattery spoke, Roberts grew visibly irritated, but the debate ended with no opportunity for him to respond.
The Roberts campaign acknowledged Roberts’ son, David, lobbied for EADS on helicopter contracts but said he had nothing to do with the tanker battle. Roberts also said family ties had no place in the debate.
The Slattery campaign said he was just pointing out Roberts’ hypocrisy on the issue of lobbying.
Glad to see Slattery taking it to him, don’t take no lip from the hypocrite.
Didn’t catch the debate, but I hope Slattery also nailed him on voting against the economic rescue bill. Bad as things are, they’d be much worse if our Repubs had their way!

It surprises me that the RNC is willing to lose all those seats rather than let the Presidency go. After all, McCain chose the public funding route. It seems they are willing to lose the whole ballgame.
It’s quite a reckless gamble I think.
“People were glad to help each other if they could”
We live in a very different world from the 1930’s.
Most of America was rural and knew how to live off the land – because they DID live off the land.
Supermarkets? Walmart? Nope. If it wasn’t in the Sears Roebuck they didn’t get it. An outhouse was a place for social gatherings.
People still shot food for dinner. Hell, most people have probably never even shot a gun.
No. The next depression will be a very different animal. People are urban. They live in cities. They live in communities where they don’t have gardens – and haven’t a clue how to grow one.
It will be a disaster. The closer to ground zero, the city center, the worse it will be. On the bright side, most of the urban areas vote democrat.
By mccain/palin ‘rules of association’ that clearly makes both of them terrorist! I’m scared, these people don’t see America the way we do.”

Glacier growth in Alaska is coming along nicely too. Be sure to credit Sarah Palin. Only fair, since you wackos blame her for everything else.
Say hi to your mom and all them that read your posts. I have some other stuff that will keep them in stitches.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The federal budget deficit hit a new record in the just-completed 2008 budget year under the latest estimates from the Congressional Budget Office.
The record $438 billion shortfall for the budget year that ended last week is the highest in the history of our nation.
Thank-you to the democrats who hold the majority in both houses of Congress, the worst US Congress ever.
http://nsidc.org/news/press/20081002_seaice_pressrelease.html
“Conditions in spring, at the end of the growth season, played an important role in the outcome of this year’s melt. In March 2008, thin first-year ice covered a record high 73% of the Arctic Basin. While this might seem like a recovery of the ice, the large extent masked an important aspect of sea ice health; thin ice is more prone to melting out during summer. So, the widespread thin ice of spring 2008 set the stage for extensive ice loss over the melt season.”
“Not only did Senator Barack Obama’s presidential campaign pay more than U.S. $800,000 to a front of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform, Now, ACORN, currently under investigation in a dozen States for voter registration fraud and bribery schemes, for “get-out-the-vote-efforts”; Obama co-sponsored legislation called the “Helping Families Save their Homes in Bankruptcy Act of 2007”– that was supported by ACORN and protects them.
. . .
Notice now, another key reason why groups like ACORN support this legislation because it: “Prohibits the court from allowing a claim that is subject to any remedy for damages or rescission due to failure to comply with the Truth in Lending Act or any other state or federal consumer protection law.”
. . .
This bill absolves organizations of any guilt or culpability under TILA; perhaps the same organizations who intimidated and bullied banks into providing risky loans to unqualified borrowers like ACORN.”

Seems like mcsame forgot something he said about ACORN. He said they are part of what makes America special. Dont believe me. Fine. Here’s the video.
“Sen. John McCain was happy to accept the honors and acclamation of the Service Employees International Union, People for the American Way, UNITE HERE — and ACORN. Here he is, on Feb. 20, 2006, telling immigration rights activists at a rally in Miami that they “are what makes America special.”
ACORN co-sponsored the rally, and its volunteers surround McCain, and while there’s no evidence that McCain ever formally teamed with the group, the video serves as a reminder that he did not mind being associated with them when the politics of the moment were different….
McCain had no trouble fraternizing with ACORN in 2006 when their political interests coincided with his. Now, his campaign is writing e-mails in his name bashing ACORN as a tool of the Obama machine.
Oops. Now watch the video. The good stuff, where McCain sucks up to ACORN as all that is good with America, comes at about 2 minutes in.”

Too bad you are so fundamently wrong, so often, Hank. Your wife’s business as well as my workplace will be better off when the middle class has more resources. If you don’t know that, which I will grant is possible, “clown” was way too generous.
Great work Cosmos, so now where does it say McCain gave 800,000 to ACORN and it’s affiliates?
Where does it say ACORN supports McCain? Because I see they support OBAMA.
And although ACORN states they are nonpartisan(wink, wink), the world knows they are pure bleeding heart liberals.
Now where does it say McCain worked for ACORN, and worked with ACORN groups?
But I’ll give you (and farmie) a B- for nice job tap dancing and diversion.
when the middle class has more resources
Please Mr Davis express to us:
1. What are the more resources that the middle class will have? Be specific.
2. What is the “middle class”?
Thanks!
Though when the democrats take over, we will treat you Republicans better than you treat other minorities. Hell, as Michael Moore says, “we’ll even let you Republicans marry each other.”
McCain was for ACORN before he was against ACORN.
It’s not a flip flop nor a flip nor a flop.
ACORN is guilty of election FRAUD in the past, and are under investigation in many states today. Most recently a 7 year old girl was registered in Florida and even Micky Mouse! In Ohio, one person registered 73 times!!! In Ohio, Florida, Nevada, and Indiana: Dead people have registered this year (after their deaths of course). In Ohio, in just one box of registration forms turned in by ACORN, 250 were signed by the same persons signature (different names on the form). In Nevada, the Dallas Cowboys are popular because they registered to vote there – and often!
There is no tie to ACORN and McCain.
But there is a very large tie to ACORN, Democratic Party, Money, and OBAMA.
Nice try at diversion.
ACORN is trying to steal the election in their enthusiasm to have Obama elected.
I don’t know that there is a consensus definition of middle class. I have a family of four, my spouse and my income is a little over $100K per year – I consider us middle class. I think you could go $50K above or below me and qualify for the middle class. $150K+ would be upper middle class, $250 is the lower rung of the upper class (the salary range of most specialty practice physicians).
These are my definitions only.
I think Obama has a better plan to help with health care costs and to help families with college tuition costs. Two areas of interest to me.
I believe that McCain will continue the tax cuts on the wealthiest of Americans – which I would strongly oppose. I oppose because this tax policy because it has contributed to growing our debt and increasing the deficit (two different things, I hope you know).
Roach,
The most parsimonious I can get on your question and my position.
Most recently a 7 year old girl was registered in Florida and even Micky Mouse! In Ohio, one person registered 73 times!!!
——
They were caught! Good job! Now, on to finding others who may be attempting fraud. Let’s find them all and have a fair and above board election.
Ummm Steven, do we have to let them MARRY each other??? That will only make more of them… LOL
Monkey —- I am not all that certain the voice on that “alleged” email is McCain’s…
I dont have any of my audio testing stuff set up on this puter…. or I could check it…
I am encouraged by every post made and every story in the media about the voters who attempted to register fraduently and weren’t successful! Gets us one step closer to an election where every eligible American has one vote and that’s what we all want.
Roach — “Dead people have registered this year (after their deaths of course).”
Ohhhh noooo RoaCH… say it aint so!!!
You know what that means, dont you???
That means…. Represntation without respiration!!! We cant have THAT crap!!!
RoaCH,
McCain earlier pandered to ACORN to get votes, and now that he is deperate, he attacks ACORN.
I give McCain a grade of F, for Flip-Flopping.
And please try to learn the difference between an “application”, and actually being “registered”.
Mr. Davis this guy said it best although I don’t think he realizes why it is fitting. There is not enough money to fund all the projects OBAMA wants.
Max added the numbers from our own government which reflect the same.
You are making a claim as to college education you must be thinking of another handout for YOU?
Making 100,000+ annually? Like YOU need a HANDOUT!!!?! How MUCH do you THINK OBAMA is going to give you, since you seem to have a handle on this.
And healthcarewhere’s the money coming from?
The fat cats don’t have enough even if you take every last sent. And why should the RICH be more patriotic than YOU: MAking 100-150,000 a year.
You are disgusting to be asking for MORE from others. This country is financially broke.
And your middle class numbers are as flaky as Obama’s.

This registration thing sounds very similar, from what I have heard so far…
ACORN has had its serious problems… no doubt about that… BUT, overall, this problem is being blown WAY out of proportion, by talk radio, and by the Anti Obama bloggers here, and elsewhere….
The Anti Obama crowd are real desperate…

It’s no small wonder that so many NUTS are so infatuated with ACORN…. The NUTS need to stick together!!
IF this was as big of a problem as our Reich Wing Nut cases here say it is, the FBI would be all over this like Stink on a Skunk…. The thing about skunks, they are the only ones who dont smell the STINK that they make!! LOL
Hey, nutjobs, did ACORN get Peppie Le Pew registered yet??
I wonder if elected,Obama will salute the troops or give them the finger?
Hell, won’t make any difference. If the ‘One’ gets a chance the military will be left with a row boat for the Navy and sling shot for the Army and Marines.
Air Force, well just to keep them around to service the Air Force “The One.”
“Even those idiots who registered 73 times… If they were that stupid, they probably didnt bother to switch adresses 73 times…. And if they did, they would never be able to VOTE 73 times”
These idiots are NOT voters. The voters (poor, homeless, drug addicts, disenfranchised others, etc..) are being taken advantage of by ACORN. The voter didn’t register 73 times: ACORN sent the registration form in 73 times. (I can give you a link to a vedeo by a man who says he registered himself 16 times to get more free smokes and money.) ACORN is driving the buses.
If changing the address would have made the fraud harder to find: YOu got me on that one Chas.
With the motor voter laws and mail in ballots, who knows if they won’t mail in 73 completed ballots?
THe point is to stop them (ACORN) now and hold them responsible.
ALl it would take is for both candidates to come out and speak strongly against FRAUD. IF ACORN is smart enough to get federal tax dollars for their various programs (and spend them under the complex rules), then they are smart enough to register people legally. Hold them accountable.
Don’t dump it on the three clerks in the county election office (and volunteers, for gosh sakes) a week before the election.
Stop it now!!!

Are you speaking out of your ass again Chas?
I can’t tell really, put your glasses back on.

Chas the FBI is investigating this! Nevada. The US Attorney’s office has been ASKED to investigate. Eleven (there are supposed to be twelve but I can only find eleven) states are investigating them.
ACORN is rotten. That is what stinks. Instead, you pinch your nose at the ones reporting it. And it’s weird to hear you talk about getting the FBI on anything!
There’s only one thing you Reich Wing nuts havent tried yet… fortunately… BUT, there sure are some idiots running loose that call out “KILL HIM!” and “TRAITOR!” and “OFF WITH HIS HEAD!”
My guess is that an actual attempt on Obama’s life will be the next rabbit out of the hat of all of the REICH WING NUTS!! Shoot, they already tried in once in Denver!!
Mr Roach (you cons have talent for picking apt nics)
I don’t think I need a handout from anyone and can’t recall every asking for one. I believe that everyone is better off when the middle class has more. The last 8 years is what happens when the “haves” and the “have mores” have more.
As my ealier post would suggest, I think Hank Price (who does not need a handout, either), me and most people I know are better off when the middle class has resources. Our overall culture is better off.
I think of more than about me and my direct personal interests, when I talk about the country being better off when the middle class is not squeezed as it is now. I understand that this is a totally foreign concept to Republicans like you. This fact is one of the reasons things are so screwed up in this country right now.
I am fortunate enough and I grareful for the ability to donate to charities, political campaigns, and to help out friends who need it. I am lucky and I have worked hard. I have all that I need and most things I want. This is not true for many of my fellow countrymen – I think I will be better off when that changes. Even though you could not recognize it, you will be too.
Sorry, I responded to you. I thought yours was a sincere question. I can see now that it was not.
Obama in ‘08. Get used it.
Good night.
I’ve read a bunch, heard a bunch more about ACORN. Seems ACORN is also a victim — of employees who didn’t do their job, but instead filled out application forms fraudulently and turned them in to collect pay for a job not done. Those forms are being tossed out! They aren’t getting on the rolls of registered voters.
There is an ongoing investigation and I will be patient as that progresses. The hysteria seems just hysterical to me. Each and every story that exposes fraudulent applications for registration is a reason to celebrate! They weren’t successful!
The rest of the nonsense is made up, exaggerated and untrue.
Good night. Steven. Have a good one! Let’s do lunch soon!
I like to throw an acorn at the wingnuts every now and then.

After several weeks in which the McCain campaign sought to tie Mr. Obama to William Ayers, a former member of the Weather Underground terror group, 64 percent of voters said that they had either read or heard something about the subject. But a majority said they were not bothered by Mr. Obama’s background or past associations. Several people said in follow-up interviews that they felt Mr. McCain’s attacks on Mr. Obama were too rooted in the past, or too unconnected to the nation’s major problems.
The nationwide telephone poll was conducted Friday through Monday with 1,070 adults, of whom 972 were registered voters, and it has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points for both groups.

Thank goodness! If anything worthwhile came out of Rovian politics it seems most Americans learned how much ugliness can be made up, exaggerated beyond belief and they aren’t falling for it again. Don’t you wonder how McCain who was a victim of this in 2000 must be feeling?
From the moment Obama spoke to me like I mattered and in a manner that respected me as an adult able to understand, I knew this was a special leader. He is inspirational. I was so tired of being spoken “down to.” Americans are capable of so much and now we will have the opportunity to reach our potential.
Obama And Ayers’ Annenberg Failure
By INVESTOR’S BUSINESS DAILY | Posted Tuesday, October 14, 2008 4:20 PM PT
Education: The joint effort between Barack Obama and terrorist William Ayers to “reform” Chicago schools was a flop. After spending $160 million, Chicago’s children were still being left behind.
It was, and some say still is, his only claim to have executive experience qualifying him for high government office. “My experience previous to elected office equips me for the job,” Obama said in a 2000 televised debate during a failed campaign to unseat incumbent Democratic Congressman Bobby Rush.
Of that experience, Obama said: “I have chaired major philanthropic efforts on the city, like the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC) that gave $50 million to prompt school-reform efforts throughout the city.” It was an impressive line on anyone’s resume. It was also a flop.
Obama ran the fiscal arm that distributed grants to schools and raised matching funds.
Ayers participated in a second entity known as the Chicago School Reform Collaborative, the operational arm that worked with grant recipients. They met and talked often.
Ayers was more interested in transforming Chicago’s schools into vehicles for socialist revolution than in reading scores. He sought to use Annenberg’s grant to fund his dream of radicalizing both teachers and students. Obama helped him toward that goal, gaining what he thought would be an important credential.
Like most efforts to improve the government monopoly by throwing money at it, the CAC was a failure, and a costly one at that. The grant was conditioned on raising at least twice that amount in matching funds. With the grant, CAC had $160 million to throw at the problem.
The CAC operated in 210 Chicago schools between 1996 and 2001. At the CAC’s conclusion, an evaluation report was prepared and titled, “The Chicago Annenberg Challenge: Successes, Failures, and Lessons for the Future Final Technical Report of the Chicago Annenberg Research Project.”
On page 14 of the executive summary we find that “the Challenge had little impact on student outcomes.” On page 15, the report says: “There were no statistically significant differences between Annenberg schools and non-Annenberg schools in rates of achievement gain” and that “any improvements were much like those occurring in demographically similar non-Annenberg schools.”
In 1998-99, just 36% of the Annenberg school students in grades three through eight were reading at or above national norms compared with 35% in Chicago schools citywide. In math, the results were similar. Some 43% of Annenberg students were at or above national norms versus 42% for non-Annenberg students.
High school graduation rates for both groups of students were the same at 40%. The Annenberg schools edged out Chicago schools in dropout rates — 35% to 36%. As the report said, there were no signs of improvement that warranted the expenditure of $160 million.
The CAC did not improve the schools, and in some ways made things worse. The executive summary also notes: “Classroom behavior, students’ sense of self-efficacy, and social competence were weaker in 2001 than before the Challenge.”
The report stated: “In 2001, students in Annenberg schools were somewhat less inclined than in 1994 to respect each other, work well together and help each other learn.” Neither student attitudes nor student achievements were aided by Obama’s efforts.
Based on these results, Barack Obama would have trouble getting chosen as a high school principal. Yet he thought they were worthy of promoting him first to congressman and now to the presidency of the United States.
When Obama collected the endorsement of the American Federation of Teachers, he told the teachers that support for alternatives to the education monopoly amounted to “tired rhetoric about vouchers and school choice” even though efforts like the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship, unlike those of the CAC, have produced stunning improvements.
Not being left behind are Obama’s daughters, who attend the private University of Chicago Laboratory Schools. There the tuition ranges from $15,528 for kindergarten to $20,445 for high school. When asked about it during last year’s YouTube debate, Sen. Obama responded that it was “the best option” for his children.
They had a choice Obama would deny others.

You are too funny AmWay!
I don’t think Obama is going to stop anyone from sending their kids to private schools- on their own dime.
He may not approve of using government funds drawn away from public schools to funnel into private schools.
I think it is a great plus for America that a President Barak Obama has a long and solid history of working to improve the quality of our schools.
This is pretty good:

Sounds like Slattery put it on Roberts with Roberts’ son being an EADS/airbus lobbyist at the same time Roberts was helping to vote down mccains proposal to get rid of ‘Buy American’.
Roberts on the news tonight trying to clarify that he never voted against boeing, maybe not, but he voted against boeing’s interest by allowing foreigners exclusion on defense bids to be waived.
Then Tiahrt on tv saying if the DOD favors a french company for the tanker, they better expect a fight. Guess what, Tiahrt also voted out the ‘Buy American’ exclusion!
The chicken’s are coming home to roost. Here’s a good link to the Idiot Todd factor .

“I think it is a great plus for America that a President Barak Obama has a long and solid history of working to improve the quality of our schools.”
What an insane statement again out of DavidB!
Chicago schools are some of if not the very worst in the nation. Parents are up in arms demonstrating about their poor quality.
Here read if you can and then argue;
http://everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1442927
“The Chicago public school system is, by any standard, full of bad schools. For the past 30 years, their dropout rate has been about 50%. Considering their excellent magnet schools (schools for gifted students), the remaining non-selective public schools must be performing even worse. At some schools, there have been dropout rates near 85%.”
But I guess they will correct that with this brilliant idea;
(CNN) — “Public school officials in Chicago, Illinois, are recommending approval of a “gay-friendly” high school”
Makes no difference at all, Roberts and Tiahrt are back in office. I’ll bet you couldn’t get any odds at all they will lose.

SO MUCH FOR MCCAIN CAMPAIGN HONOR
Time Magazine reports about a McCain canvasser training session in Virginia:
“With so much at stake, and time running short, [Virginia Republican Party Chairman Jeff] Frederick did not feel he had the luxury of subtlety. He climbed atop a folding chair to give 30 campaign volunteers who were about to go canvassing door to door their talking points — for instance, the connection between Barack Obama and Osama bin Laden: “Both have friends that bombed the Pentagon,” he said. “That is scary.”
“And he won’t salute the flag,” one woman added, repeating another myth about Obama. She was quickly topped by a man who called out, “We don’t even know where Senator Obama was really born.” Actually, we do; it’s Hawaii.”
BEN… you hit on something possibly quite significant….
So, KENNEDY was attacked (swift-boated) by his enemies…. Called a Communist sympathizer… called a liar about a previous marriage/divorce… in league with Communist enemies of the United States, and promoting US involvement in the United Nations… Was accused of not upholding the Constitution, and being a TRAITOR…
Was accused of taking part in Communist race riots… Mercy sakes… So MANY of the very similar kinds of things that the NeoCons are accusing Obama of 48 years LATER!!
I am guessing that many of those who were making up lies about JFK, were folks from the John Birch Society…. the NEO Cons of 1960 (no doubt led by ol’ Joe McCarthy his own self)….
And we just THOUGHT McCarthyism was over!!

Don’t feel too encouraged. Rovian politics still works, but only when there aren’t other, more serious issues commanding voter attention. As for McCain, I honestly think part of the problem here is that for all the talk from some about his “meanness”, it really doesn’t appear to me that McCain is comfortable with right wing character assasination campaigning like either of the Bushes were. One of the reasons why he looks so bad when he is on the attack is that I really don’t think that his heart is in it (in fact, I think that’s where the awkward “that one” moment came from).
“the NEO Cons of 1960 (no doubt led by ol’ Joe McCarthy his own self)….”
Considering McCarthy was dead, that would have been a neat trick (sort of like Roosevelt talking to the nation on TV after the stock collapse of 1929).
OK, Agnatha… refresh my memory… When did ol’ smokin Joe die??
1957 I believe.

To me, McCain looks awkward even when he’s trying to be positive — like saying “my friends” 22 times, usually with a stupid grin, in a 90 minute debate.
I have no way of knowing if McCain is “comfortable” with negative campaigning, but he also seems to have done a lot of it in the 2000 primaries.
‘THEY STILL SAY THEY MET THE MOST WONDERFUL MAN! The New York Times keeps telling the tale about the once-great Saint McCain:’
http://www.dailyhowler.com/dh100808.shtml
“But at the same time, the greatest man in the world was doing these things himself:
* He was baldly misstating Bush’s budget proposal.
* He was running negatives ads which so offended Republican voters that he had to take them down — dramatically, of course.
* He was boiling over with obvious anger in the South Carolina debate—moderated by Larry King.
* He was lying about his actual views concerning the confederate flag. (Or so he later said.)
* He was paying large sums to two race men — presumably, to build his in-state conservative bona fides.
* He was making a series of bogus claims about negative flyers his campaign was distributing, in contravention of previous pledges.
* He was running anonymous phone calls in Michigan, painting Bush as anti-Catholic.
* He was lying, right in the face of the press, when asked if he was running those phone calls. (His campaign finally fessed up—the morning after the Michigan primary.)
* He was parading about, repeatedly saying he was going to “beat Al Gore like a drum”—even as the press corps praised him for his wonderfully uplifting politics.
* He was repeatedly telling a story about Gore and the Buddhist temple that was baldly inaccurate. “

Yeah similarities…

Between Chas and Steven Davis, I think they are hoping for an assassination.
I don’t know, I supposed JFK could be Obama’s father.
Who knows?
But it wasn’t his fault – he was TOO FAT to die!
(I suppose a 12 gauge slug would have been too painful)
Richard Cooey, 41, who stood 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighed 267 pounds, was cleared to receive a lethal injection when prison staff members examined him and found accessible veins in both arms. He was convicted of sexually assaulting and killing two University of Akron students in 1986. The Supreme Court on Monday denied an appeal based on his assertion that he could not be put to death in a humane way because his obesity made it too difficult to find his veins. Yesterday, the court refused to hear a second appeal alleging that Ohio’s three-drug lethal injection protocol could cause an agonizing death and should be replaced with a single drug.
