Here is a quick look at 3 former Fannie Mae executives who brought down Wall Street.

Franklin Raines was a Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Fannie Mae. Raines was forced to retire from his position with Fannie Mae when auditing discovered severe irregularities in Fannie Mae’s accounting activities. At the time of his departure The Wall Street Journal noted, “Raines, who long defended the company’s accounting despite mounting evidence that it wasn’t proper, issued a statement late Tuesday conceding that ‘mistakes were made’ and saying he would assume responsibility as he had earlier promised. News reports indicate the company was under growing pressure from regulators to shake up its management in the wake of findings that the company’s books ran afoul of generally accepted accounting principles for four years.” Fannie Mae had to reduce its surplus by $9 billion. Raines left with a “Golden Parachute” valued at $240 Million in benefits.

The Government filed suit against Raines when the depth of the accounting scandal became clear. The Government noted, “The 101 charges reveal how the individuals improperly manipulated earnings to maximize their bonuses, while knowingly neglecting accounting systems and internal controls, misapplying over twenty accounting principles and misleading the regulator and the public. The Notice explains how they submitted six years of misleading and inaccurate accounting statements and inaccurate capital reports that enabled them to grow Fannie Mae in an unsafe and unsound manner.” These charges were made in 2006. The Court ordered Raines to return $50 Million Dollars he received in bonuses based on the miss-stated Fannie Mae profits.
    http://housingdoom.com/2006/12/18/fannie-charges/

Tim Howard – Was the Chief Financial Officer of Fannie Mae. Howard was a strong internal proponent of using accounting strategies that would ensure a ’stable pattern of earnings’ at Fannie. In everyday English – he was cooking the books. The Government Investigation determined that, “Chief Financial Officer, Tim Howard, failed to provide adequate oversight to key control and reporting functions within Fannie Mae.”

On June 16, 2006, Rep. Richard Baker, R-La., asked the Justice Department to investigate his allegations that two former Fannie Mae executives lied to Congress in October 2004 when they denied manipulating the mortgage-finance giant’s income statement to achieve management pay bonuses. Investigations by federal regulators and the company’s board of directors since concluded that management did manipulate 1998 earnings to trigger bonuses. Raines and Howard resigned under pressure in late 2004.
Howard’s “Golden Parachute” was estimated at $20 Million!

Jim Johnson – A former executive at Lehman Brothers who was later forced from his position as Fannie Mae CEO. Look at the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight’s May 2006 report on mismanagement and corruption inside Fannie Mae, and you’ll see some interesting things about Johnson. Investigators found that Fannie Mae had hidden a substantial amount of Johnson’s 1998 compensation from the public, reporting that it was between $6 million and $7 million when it fact it was $21 million. Johnson is currently under investigation for taking illegal loans from Countrywide while serving as CEO of Fannie Mae.
Johnson’s “Golden Parachute” was estimated at $28 Million.

    WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

FRANKLIN RAINES? Raines works for the Obama Campaign as Chief Economic Advisor.
TIM HOWARD? Howard is also a Chief Economic Advisor to Obama.
JIM JOHNSON? Johnson hired as a Senior Obama Finance Advisor and was selected to run Obama’s Vice Presidential Search Committee.

IF OBAMA PLANS ON CLEANING UP THE FINANCIAL MESS – HIS ADVISORS HAVE THE EXPERTISE – THEY MADE THE MESS IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Would you trust the men who tore Wall Street down to build the New Wall Street?

This message is to JoMarieM who posted last night.

One, have you seen the statistics on happy marriages and divorce between liberals and conservatives? I’m blown away that you think liberals don’t have happy marriages. Ours are considerably happier and we have a lower divorce rate.

Second, our country is in a mess because during the last two years the election has gone to the guy you’d most like to have a beer with. So chosing an idiot like Sarah Palin just because you’d like to talk about knitting at the neighborhood block party is just adding to the crisis our nation is in. She’s not very smart- that has become very obvious.

Third, isn’t it interesting how the cons always complain about the media when it is their person who is losing. The media practically handed the election to George Bush. The evil slams from the neocons against Bush and Clinton have been endless. Where was your outrage then?

Sarah is the wrong person to lead anything in my opinion, and that’s just obvious. She disgraces women.

    MAKE THE PIE HIGHER
    by George WMD Bush

I think we all agree, the past is over.
This is still a dangerous world.
It’s a world of madmen and uncertainty
    And potential mental losses.

    Rarely is the question asked
    Is our children learning?
Will the highways of the Internet
    Become more few?

How many hands have I shaked?
    They misunderestimate me.
I am a pitbull on the pantleg of opportunity.

I know that the human being
    And the fish can coexist.
Families is where our nation finds hope, where our wings take dream.

    Put food on your family!
    Knock down the tollbooth!

Given the stakes, I’d say both sides will go for a “truce” in tonights debate. Everyone will be happy to get out alive. I’d bet $5 with 20 to one odds, however, that Palin goes aggressive. The MaCain camp may be depending on her to lift his candidacy once again. As for Palin, it is fun watching someone passing a goose while trying so hard not to screw up.

And how am I party to that greed, bj? Nice generalization…but ain’t true. I bought a house with 20% down..kept the price within something I could afford and didn’t go with one of those risky no interest loans that are causing all the problems. The people that bought more than they could afford, and resulting in massive foreclosures are one of the main reasons for this meltdown. Raines/Johnson and Howard led people down that garden path of destruction. Raines took his 240 MILLION golden parachute and now works for Obama.

Show me how my “greed” contributed to this?

Is it willful ignorance or just ignorance?

Without the flood of sub prime mortgages there would be no financial crisis.

Without Fannie/Freddie there would have been no flood of sub prime mortgages.

Without Democrats there would have been no Fannie/Freddie mess.

I think you can follow the rest from there.

Simplistic, yes. But I had to bring it down to your level.

You can labour along in your hate filled fog of denial or you can go to you-tube and watch “Burning Down the House”.

A video which Time-Warner, who gave Obama over $300,000, had pulled from you-tube for “trade mark violations”. The music was changed and it is back. The link has been posted here repeatedly and I’ve seen no one refute the facts presented in the video.

    OBAMA’S ‘NOT EXACTLY’S’

1.) Selma Got Me Born – NOT EXACTLY, your parents felt safe enough to have you in 1961 – Selma had no effect on your birth, as Selma was in 1965. (Google’ Obama Selma ‘ for his full March 4, 2007 speech and articles about its various untruths.)

2.) Father Was A Goat Herder – NOT EXACTLY, he was a privileged, well educated youth, who went on to work with the Kenyan Government.

3.) Father Was A Proud Freedom Fighter – NOT EXACTLY, he was part of one of the most corrupt and violent governments Kenya has ever had.

4.) My Family Has Strong Ties To African Freedom – NOT EXACTLY, your cousin Raila Odinga has created mass violence in attempting to overturn a legitimate election in 2007, in Kenya . It is the first widespread violence in decades. The current government is pro-American but Odinga wants to overthrow it and establish Muslim Sharia law. Your half-brother, Abongo Obama, is Odinga’s follower. You interrupted your New Hampshire campaigning to speak to Odinga on the phone.

Obama’s cousin Odinga in Kenya ran for president and tried to get Sharia muslim law in place there. When Odinga lost the elections, his followers have burned Christians’ homes and then burned men, women and children alive in a Christian church where they took shelter.. Obama SUPPORTED his cousin before the election process here started. Google Obama and Odinga and see what you get. No one wants to know the truth.

5.) My Grandmother Has Always Been A Christian – NOT EXACTLY, she does her daily Salat prayers at 5am according to her own interviews. Not to mention, Christianity wouldn’t allow her to have been one of 14 wives to 1 man.

6.) My Name is African Swahili – NOT EXACTLY, your name is Arabic and ‘Baraka’ (from which Barack came) means ‘blessed’ in that language. Hussein is also Arabic and so is Obama. Barack Hussein Obama is not half black. If elected, he would be the first Arab-American President, not the first black President. Barack Hussein Obama is 50% Caucasian from his mother’s side and 43.75% Arabic and 6.25% African Negro from his father’s side. While Barack Hussein Obama’s father was from Kenya , his father’s family was mainly Arabs.. Barack Hussein Obama’s father was only 12.5% African Negro and 87.5% Arab (his father’s birth certificate even states he’s Arab, not African Negro). From….and for more….see here

7.) I Never Practiced Islam – NOT EXACTLY, you practiced it daily at school, where you were registered as a Muslim and kept that faith for 31 years, until your wife made you change, so you could run for office. 4-3-08 Article ‘Obama was ‘quite religious in islam”. See here

8.) My School In Indonesia was Christian – NOT EXACTLY, you were registered as Muslim there and got in trouble in Koranic Studies for making faces (check your own book). February 28, 2008. Kristoff from the New York Times a year ago: Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent. In a remark that seemed delightfully uncalculated (it’ll give Alabama voters heart attacks), Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as ‘one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.’ This is just one example of what Pamela is talking about when she says ‘Obama’s narrative is being altered, enhanced and manipulated to whitewash troubling facts.’

9.) I Was Fluent In Indonesian – NOT EXACTLY, not one teacher says you could speak the language.

10.) Because I Lived In Indonesia , I Have More Foreign Experience – NOT EXACTLY, you were there from the ages of 6 to 10, and couldn’t even speak the language. What did you learn, how to study the Koran and watch cartoons.

11.) I Am Stronger On Foreign Affairs – NOT EXACTLY, except for Africa (surprise) and the Middle East (bigger surprise), you have never been anywhere else on the planet and thus have NO experience with our closest allies.

12.) I Blame My Early Drug Use On Ethnic Confusion – NOT EXACTLY, you were quite content in high school to be Barry Obama, no mention of Kenya and no mention of struggle to identify – your classmates said you were just fine.

13.) An Ebony Article Moved Me To Run For Office – NOT EXACTLY, Ebony has yet to find the article you mention in your book. It doesn’t, and never did, exist.

14.) A Life Magazine Article Changed My outlook on Life – NOT EXACTLY, Life has yet to find the article you mention in your book. It doesn’t, and never did, exist.

15.) I Won’t Run On A National Ticket In ‘08 – NOT EXACTLY, here you are, despite saying, live n TV, that you would not have enough experience by then, and you are all about having experience first.

16.) Voting ‘Present’ is Common In Illinois Senate – NOT EXACTLY, they are common for YOU, but not many others have 130 NO VOTES.

17.) Oops, I Misvoted – NOT EXACTLY, only when caught by church groups and Democrats, did you beg to change your misvote.

18.) I Was A Professor Of Law – NOT EXACTLY, you were a senior lecturer ON LEAVE.

19.) I Was A Constitutional Lawyer – NOT EXACTLY, you were a senior lecturer ON LEAVE.

20.) Without Me, There Would Be No Ethics Bill – NOT EXACTLY, you didn’t write it, introduce it, change it, or create it.

21.) The Ethics Bill Was Hard To Pass – NOT EXACTLY, it took just 14 days from start to finish.

22.) I Wrote A Tough Nuclear Bill – NOT EXACTLY, your bill was rejected by your own party for its pandering and lack of all regulation – mainly because of your Nuclear donor, Exelon, from which David Axelrod came.

23.) I Have Released My State Records – NOT EXACTLY, as of March, 2008, state bills you sponsored or voted for have yet to be released, exposing all the special interests pork hidden within.

24.) I Took On The Asbestos Altgeld Gardens Mess – NOT EXACTLY, you were part of a large group of people who remedied Altgeld Gardens .. You failed to mention anyone else but yourself, in your books.

25.) My Economics Bill Will Help America – NOT EXACTLY, your 111 economic policies were just combined into a proposal which lost 99-0, and even YOU voted against your own bill.

26.) I Have Been A Bold Leader In Illinois – NOT EXACTLY, even your own supporters claim to have not seen BOLD action on your part.

27.) I Passed 26 Of My Own Bills In One Year – NOT EXACTLY, they were not YOUR bills, but rather handed to you, after their creation by a fellow Senator, to assist you in a future bid for higher office.

28.) No One on my campaign contacted Canada about NAFTA – NOT EXACTLY, the Candian Government issued the names and a memo of the conversation your campaign had with them.

29.) I Am Tough On Terrorism – NOT EXACTLY, you missed the Iran Resolution vote on terrorism and your good friend Ali Abunimah supports the destruction of Israel .

30.) I Want All Votes To Count – NOT EXACTLY, you said let the delegates decide.

31.) I Want Americans To Decide – NOT EXACTLY, you prefer caucuses that limit the vote, confuse the voters, force a public vote, and only operate during small windows of time.

32.) I passed 900 Bills in the State Senate – NOT EXACTLY, you passed 26, most of which you didn’t write yourself.

33.) I Believe In Fairness, Not Tactics – NOT EXACTLY, you used tactics to eliminate Alice Palmer from running against you.

34.) I Don’t Take PAC Money – NOT EXACTLY, you take loads of it.

35.) I don’t Have Lobbysists – NOT EXACTLY, you have over 47 lobbyists, and counting.

36.) My Campaign Had Nothing To Do With The 1984 Ad – NOT EXACTLY, your own campaign worker made the ad on his Apple in one afternoon.

37.) I Have Always Been Against Iraq – NOT EXACTLY, you weren’t in office to vote against it AND you have voted to fund it every single time.

38.) I Have Always Supported Universal Health Care – NOT EXACTLY, your plan leaves us all to pay for the 15,000,000 who don’t have to buy it

How DID we get to this place?

Early America was a country that gave land to its people.

(Well, white men anyway) Those people worked together to put roof over head.

HOW did we get to the place that to have a warm place to sleep you have to toil all day and pay some landlord a fee? That or pledge half your life’s work away living in a house that is not really yours until you are about to die and find a home in the ground?

I’d like to see something like Habitat for Humanity on a national scale. Get the landlords and financiers OUT of the place of deciding who gets to have a home.

Went out to North Carolina to visit with the youngest and his family before he is deployed.
Ft. Brag is massive and I was surprised at the base housing that they live in. Those Carolina pines are wonderful to walk around in. He is doing well and my granddaughters are angels on earth I missed them after two hours on our flight home.

I finally got to see the Atlantic Ocean, we all went to Wrightsville beach and played in the surf. I had only been to the Gulf of Mexico at Galveston. LOL I had almost forgotten just how bad seawater tastes but a wave came along that was over my wife and I head. I was reminded in such a rude term and my wife lost her glasses.

Now I hear the youngest is being deployed in November in still of December, the hint is to around Saudri city. His company has their gear packed and their equipment too. So his days are spent on P.T. and ends up mowing grass after someone finally gets tired of him or her setting around. OMG the cost of living is so expensive out there! Sadly mainly for the soldiers and there is even a shop that is especially for the soldiers.
It seems that the personal equipment they are issued is not the best of quality. Or as my son referred to it “junk”. So they can go to this shop and out of pocket buy the better stuff, boots, hydration systems and the like. Yes it made me angry that this was happening and to those this country sends off to defend her. Capitalism at its worst! “ you do not send the army you wish for, you send the army you have!”.

He earned and is honored to wear his Airborne wings and yeah dad is proud. Still question his sanity as to jumping out of a perfectly good airplane though.

“How DID we get to this place?

Early America was a country that gave land to its people.”

You understand nothing of history. That land Early America gave away? You had to keep it. In a time when keeping it could prove to be a deadly indeavor. My Fathers Grandmother lost her first husband to a bucket full of dirt in a well digging accident. Her story was common “back in the day”

The kind of work it took to keep that land was the kind of work you could not take JR. Think about hand digging a well 150 feet deep for water because the nearest stream was 5 miles away. Think about hand sawing enough lumber to build even a 1 room house IF you were lucky enough to be near trees to cut. Think about digging a dugout to live in. Or cutting sod and stacking it for a “house” to live in. There’s a reason the life expectancy of a man in those days was well below 60 years.

You arent the kind of man that could handle the “free land” this country gave away.

Making the rounds amongst a certain subset of wingnuts on CNBC, at IBD and other selfconfoozled folks has been the meme that the entire housing and credit crisis traces to the the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) of 1977. An alternative zombie myth is the credit crisis is due to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. A 1999 article from the New York Times about the GSE’s role in subprime mortgages has been circulating as if its the rosetta stone of the credit crisis.

These memes have become a rallying cry — cognitive dissonance writ large — of those folks who have been pushing for greater and greater deregulation, and are now attempting to disown the results of their handiwork.

I feel compelled to set the record straight about this pseudo-intellectual detritus. As we have painstakingly discussed over the past few years, there were many direct and indirect causes of the current financial mess.

Let’s clarify the causes of current circumstances. Ask yourself the following questions about the impact of the Community Reinvestment Act and/or the role of Fannie & Freddie:

    • Did the 1977 legislation, or any other legislation since, require banks to not verify income or payment history of mortgage applicants?

    • 50% of subprime loans were made by mortgage service companies not subject comprehensive federal supervision; another 30% were made by banks or thrifts which are not subject to routine supervision or examinations. How was this caused by either CRA or GSEs ?

    • What about “No Money Down” Mortgages (0% down payments) ? Were they required by the CRA? Fannie? Freddie?

    • Explain the shift in Loan to value from 80% to 120%: What was it in the Act that changed this traditional lending requirement?

    • Did any Federal legislation require real estate agents and mortgage writers to use the same corrupt appraisers again and again? How did they manage to always come in at exactly the purchase price, no matter what?

    • Did the CRA require banks to develop automated underwriting (AU) systems that emphasized speed rather than accuracy in order to process the greatest number of mortgage apps as quickly as possible?

    • How exactly did legislation force Moody’s, S&Ps and Fitch to rate junk paper as Triple AAA?

    • What about piggy back loans? Were banks required by Congress to lend the first mortgage and do a HELOC for the down payment — at the same time?

    • Internal bank memos showed employees how to cheat the system to get poor mortgages prospects approved that shouldn’t have been: Titled How to Get an “Iffy” loan approved at JPM Chase. (Was circulating that memo also a FNM/FRE/CRA requirement?)

France seeks €300bn rescue fund for Europe

France heaped pressure on Gordon Brown last night by floating an ambitious plan for a €300 billion (£237 billion) bailout fund to rescue crippled banks across Europe.

As the world held its breath on the fate of America’s $700 billion bank bailout plan, President Sarkozy was seeking the backing of European leaders for his own lifeboat.

Mr Brown also faced demands for action from British banks, furious that the Irish Republic’s unilateral guarantee of all bank savings on Tuesday was robbing them of precious deposits. The British Bankers’ Association, which represents high street banks, said that the move was anti-competitive and that it was raising the issue with Dublin. Some banks would like to see the UK respond with its own explicit guarantee.

My mistake, it’s the Christians who have displayed a constant love of Muslims for the past seven years. Sure it could have been some Jews but since they are such a small minority, and not as violent as the Christians in America, it’s highly unlikely. It doesn’t take much common sense to see what religion the terrorists are likely to belong to but since you are lacking in common sense it isn’t surprising the concept evades you.

Sorry Anti, my bitch, I have plausibility and motive. It’s part of the Christian religion to murder unbelievers, and that’s been demonstrated throughout history. Dayton was one of the town receiving a lot of Obsession dvds labeling Muslims as terrorists. Dayton has a sizeable fundy population and fundies are natural fascists and fascists have no problem harming children that are labeled undesirables (as your fellow Christian movement the Nazis have proven more than enough times). In America Christians have been responsible for numerous terrorist attacks from clinic bombings, gay beatings, doctor assasinations, and even Tim McVeigh’s bombing of a federal building.

But really, what points you to the probability that these Christian terrorists really weren’t Christian?

As for the Shari`ah stance on female circumcision, it’s a controversial issue among the Muslim scholars and even doctors.

In response to the question, the eminent Muslim scholar, Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, states:

Actually, this is a controversial issue among jurists and even among doctors. It has sparked off fierce debate in Egypt whereby scholars and doctors are split into proponents and opponents.

However, the most moderate opinion and the most likely one to be correct is in favor of practicing circumcision in the moderate Islamic way indicated in some of the Prophet’s hadiths – even though such hadiths are not confirmed to be authentic. It is reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to a midwife: “Reduce the size of the clitoris but do not exceed the limit, for that is better for her health and is preferred by husbands”. The hadith indicates that circumcision is better for a woman’s health and it enhances her conjugal relation with her husband. It’s noteworthy that the Prophet’s saying “do not exceed the limit” means do not totally remove the clitoris.

  108. Posted October 2, 2008 at 11:11 am | Permalink

Yes, the fundy Muslims are lot like the fundy Christians. It wasn’t too long ago that the fundy Christians thought it abhorrent for women to vote or wear less than a full body bathing suit (heck, even women showing ankles was considered shocking). Thankfully Western society became more secular and dropped a lot of those religious practicies. Some Muslim countries, like Turkey and UAE have done the same.

So I agree with you guys, fundamentalism is immoral.

Pakistani Religious Leader Issues Fatwa on President for Complimenting Palin

Islamic religious leaders in Pakistan have issued a fatwa against President Asif Ali Zardari for allegedly flirting with Sarah Palin when the two met at the United Nations last week during her meet-and-greet with foreign leaders, India’s Daily News reported.

Radical Muslim prayer leader Lal Masjid condemned Zardari’s “indecent gestures” toward Palin as a disgrace to all of Pakistan.

Zardari’s “filthy remarks and repeated praise of a non-Muslim lady wearing a short skirt” was unbecoming of a head of state of a Muslim country, Masjid said during a sermon, according to the Daily News.

OMAHA — The abandonments began on Sept. 1, when a mother left her 14-year-old son in a police station here.

By Sept. 23, two more boys and one girl, ages 11 to 14, had been abandoned in hospitals in Omaha and Lincoln. Then a 15-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl were left.

The biggest shock to public officials came last week, when a single father walked into an Omaha hospital and surrendered nine of his 10 children, ages 1 to 17, saying that his wife had died and he could no longer cope with the burden of raising them.

Monkey since parenting requires a skill many do not have maybe we should give out birth control that must be taken until you pass a course showing you what parenting really is.

Any fool can be a sperm/egg donor. It takes a special person to be a parent. I will admit when my kids were teens I would have welcomed a drop off site on ocassion.

The idiot with ten children. Well he should have found out long ago where they were coming from and taken steps to stop the flood before he killed his poor wife.

My thoughts he is looking for a new breeding machine and thought 10 children might be a little much in attracting one.

If you really think this is an adoption issue you are deluded. This is a personal responsibility issue.

How does McCain figure tax payers can afford one more day invading and occupying the mideast?

As of this moment the repub VP is under investigation for impeachable offenses in Alaska so said radio news today. She was under investigation at the request of republicans when she was chosen.

McCain judgement is impaired a great deal.

Bush and Cheney sent two lawyers to Alaska to squash the investigation instead of allowing Palin to answer to the charges in a court of law. The never ending republican criminal activity

Sometimes on Wall Street stockholders lose. This mess was running along like a boom town economy. Following boom town action comes very slow times which is not new. In fact there is tons of history to substantiate this fact. Now it may be time for the winners to absorb some of the loss or they can cash in and hit road looking for other winners.

It’s what’s best for the nation. Which in my eye is bailing out homeowners thus taxpayers. Bailing out homeowners will get things moving along once again which is all the economy is waiting for.

New USA industry and lots of new good paying jobs is what the nation needs otherwise we are pissing in the wind. Bailing out Wall Street won’t bring new industry and jobs as the last 30 years has proven. Out sourcing USA means of constantly creating new wealth in the name of cheap crappy products at Wal-Mart is coming back to bite us in the butt.

I say to House members don’t rush through this because haste makes waste. Throwing homeowners out on the street does not generate new wealth for the nation. Reorganizing their loans would be smart thinking. Then bring on new industry and jobs.

Nine Bodies Found Dumped Near Tijuana Day Care

TIJUANA, Mexico — Nine bodies were found Thursday in the border city of Tijuana while seven alleged Gulf cartel hit men were behind bars in Mexico City.

Eight of the bodies found in Tijuana were dumped face down in an empty lot near a day care center. Their hands were tied and a message nearby read: “Here are your people.” The site was littered with shell casings.

The ninth body was found wrapped in a sheet in another section of the city.

An official for the state prosecutor’s office said the killings were believed to be tied to drug cartels fighting each other for control of Tijuana.

About 30 people have been killed in drug-related violence in the past week in the border city, including what appeared to be the remains of two people stuffed in a barrel and dissolved with acid. Officials were still running tests on the barrels’ contents to confirm them as human.

    VT,

Has anyone taken a look at the electoral maps lately? Colorado has gone blue, Pennsylvania has gone blue, Florida and (I believe) Ohio have gone from red to “pink” (leaning) to gray (tossup). There are more.

Hint: click on the “animated map” link or go forward or backward to see the progression/regression since August last year.

CNN’s latest is also interesting, where you can change the color of states to see the outcome.

Pre, I’ve looked at said maps. Still too far out to be meaningful, IMHO.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/ confirms the earlier link about the McCain campaign leaving Michigan. What I found interesting was a tidbit about the campaign opening up an offensive in Maine, trying to get one of the electoral votes there. The basis for this is Sen. Collins running stronger than expected.

From my limited knowledge of Maine and its politics, I’d suggest the McCain camp take a look at what is driving the Collins campaign so strongly. IIRC, Sen. Collins is “pro choice” for one thing, and given the makeup of the GOP ticket, the support for Sen. Collins might not be transferable.

Five years ago today, The U.S. House voted 281-142 to ban partial-birth abortions. Didn’t work, they are still being illegally committed, though obviously not being reported, in Wichita, KS.
    - – -

Shortly after 6 pm on Wednesday, October 1, an ambulance, fire truck, and police car entered abortionist quack Tiller’s parking lot in Wichita. A woman, likely the victim of a high-risk late-term abortion, was carried westbound on Kellogg Drive within a few minutes.
Tiller has stopped calling ambulances for his victims since July, 2005, even in life-threatening emergencies, because of the unwanted attention. In this case, pro-lifers could tell from outside the parking lot that an emergency situation had arisen, and dialed 911 for professional emergency assistance and transport.
    - – -

The pro-life youth group Stand True is marking the 5th annual Pro-life Day of Silent Solidarity on Tuesday, October 21. Students will remain silent, wear armbands, or tape their mouth, and distribute flyers to help fellow students understand how abortion hurts women and children. Common hardware-store red duct tape is all that is needed to identify participants, although more is available. Each year, some pregnant high school girls are persuaded against committing abortion.
Legal assistance is available from Alliance Defense Fund (Phone: 1-800-TELL-ADF) for participants who are harassed by pro-abortion school administrators.
    - – -

Believe it or not, a Matthew 25 Network group claiming to be made up of Christians has posted a grossly misleading web page claiming that Obamanation is pro-life and wants to reduce the number of abortions through government handouts and taxing the rich.
Obamanation will do absolutely nothing that would reduce or threaten abortion mill profits. Furthermore, he plans to overturn state and federal bans on partial-birth, live-birth, post-viable, and underage abortions, appoint strictly pro-abortion federal judges, and heavily increase taxpayer funding for abortions, actions which all increase the number of abortions.
    - – -

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist has appointed 2 pro-lifers to the Florida Supreme Court, thumbing his nose at the distressed abortion lobby.
    - – -

In Californicatia, Schwarzenegger has signed bill AB 2747 to promote assisted suicide by sedated dehydration for the elderly, infirm, incurable, disabled, or probably anyone else whose existence is inconvenient.

Be sure to check the Bail Out Bill… The Senate managed to sneak several different NON-Assistance things into it. One such is taxing businesses for how much carbon they create. What does this have to do with trying to make sure credit stays open for businesses and the citizens of the USA? Well, what it will do is hit us hard in the pocket book with increased prices. Check out Page 180 for that addition. http://tinyurl.com/4utcew Be sure to read through the rest of it and find more BS crud they put in there too.

I think we need to go to term limits for Congress. All of their finances should also be placed in blind trusts (like the President/Vice President) to keep them from going in with only a few bucks in their pockets and leaving with millions falling from them. This should help us from getting screwed by the members of Congress getting all those Pork Projects put together.
