In defense of Fake Americans

“It’s ridiculous that this needs saying, but: Fake Americans are Americans,” columnist Leonard Pitts wrote about comments by Sarah Palin and other Republicans about certain “pro-American” or “real” parts of the country. “And if we disagree with so-called Real Americans politically, our passion is nevertheless rooted in the same place theirs is. Love of country.
“Many Real Americans won’t believe that. For them, love of country and social conservatism are inextricably linked, one and the same. Me, I don’t care for the straitjacket of ideology, preferring the freedom to accept or reject ideas on their merits. So when social conservatives championed, say, individual accountability and responsible fatherhood, I was happy to join them. But that was back when I knew what ‘conservative’ meant.”

Another example of the complete lack of basic logic in our country.

Simply because Palin complimented someone as being The real America and pro-American doesn’t then mean that she was saying others were not.

Palin even apologized for it coming across negatively on an interview with CNN.

    http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/21/palin.sitroom/?iref=mpstoryview

“Palin also apologized Tuesday for any misunderstanding caused when she referred last week to the patriotic values of “the real America” and “pro-America areas of this great nation.”

Now that Palin is doing interviews all over, talking to the press, and answering questions daily (More than Obama or Biden are now) you don’t even pay attention to what she is saying.

Agreed. Really, all the GOP has to offer the US is directed anger. It’s not anger directed at anybody outside our borders, either. What they’re offering is anger targeted specifically at Democrats.

    Raptor,

Snivelling on the basis of false equivalences will earn you a “whining” from me, anytime. And I say “false equivalences” because Sarah Palin is a demonstrably empty suit who lies her ass off and can’t answer a straight question.

I reject your dishonest, Right Wing “he said/she said” media model, which would stipulate that to point out a pattern of such behavior on her part therefore requires me to point out some “equivalent” on the part of her Democratic counterpart.

Let her answer questions as readily and as forthrightly as Joe Biden has for THIRTY-SOMETHING years, and THEN maybe your girlish snivelling about “unfairness” will have some merit.

    Nathan,

I see you’re playing the false equivalences game as well. Suffice it to say that “intellectually dishonest” is a polite thing to call you for equating the apologists of a powerful, ruthless, yet hapless politician, with those persons–like myself–who would defend the interests and rights of powerless and racially oppressed private citizens.

“We believe that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard-working, very patriotic, very pro-America areas of this great nation,” she told the crowd.

THere are no fake Americans. There are Americans, and there are noncitizens. If you are are noncitizen, legal or illegal, you get no say that should count. If you are a citizen, you hve a right to your own opinion, and the right to voice that. KKK. BLACK PANTHERS, PInk, JOHN Birch Society. Fred Phelps, SDS, ELF, Doesn’t matter. Others have a right to disagree. Just as strongly.
However, you have no right to commit violent acts, to bolster your opinions. WElcome to America.

Sorry, I need to clarify one thing. I am not sure I can, but I will try. If you are a noncitizen, you have a right to voice your opinion, and your opinion on how you should be treated. Citizens have a right to not take your opinion into account when it comes to legislation. All noncitizens , illegal and legal, have a right to be treated with the same Constitutinal rights as citizens, with the exception of representation.

    Sarah Palin:

“We believe that the BEST of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the REAL America, being here with all of you hard-working, very patriotic, very pro-America areas of this great nation,” she told the crowd.

Nathaniel – you just don’t get it do you?

Palin apologized for saying it or did she apologize because she got caught saying it and it took a nasty negative turn and backlashed on her?

    Those are two different things.

And what else do you call it when Todd Palin has belonged to the group of Alaskans that want to secede from the United States of America? I wouldn’t exactly call that group – pro-America – would you?

And didn’t Sarah Palin speak at that group’s conference and thanked them for their support?

And I really don’t care how Sarah Palin ‘feels’. The only thing about Sarah Palin that affects me is the fact that she will be one heartbeat away from the presidency when the president is 72 years old and has had poor health for years.

I’ve seen a lot of gay relationships that were more loving and lasted a lot longer and through a lot tougher times than many of what you christians call marriage. Given the current state of marriage (50%+ failure) I’d think you would be thrilled that there are gay people who take their personal vows more seriously than most of you take your public ones.

Hello everyone, there is no law against homosexual sex in America in the privacy of your own bedroom. If there is, it is certaintly not enforced.

There is a law that defines marriage.

    Big Difference.

A difference, yes, but only in the degree of punishment inflicted. Not that long ago, the Supreme Court declared that criminally punishing people for being gay violated the Constitution (see Lawrence v. Texas).

Hate amendments exist for the sole purpose of civilly punishing people for being gay. They do not, indeed literally cannot serve any other purpose.

Surely even those who strongly disapprove of homosexuality should be able to grasp something that obvious. And, since such couples will continue to exist (and will–gasp!–continue to have sex), such discrimination will not make the reality of gay couples go away, much as religious extremists would like to pretend that.

If we’re going to institutionalize hatred, we ought to at least think about why we’re doing it.

    From an article in “Charisma” a publication of the Pentacostal church, predicting what would happen in an Obama Administration;
“— A 6-3 liberal majority Supreme Court that results in rulings like one making gay marriage the law of the land and another forcing the Boy Scouts to “hire homosexual scoutmasters and allow them to sleep in tents with young boys.” (In the imagined scenario, The Boy Scouts choose to disband rather than obey).”

I find that whole scenario rather amusing, since my troop back in the 1950’s had an advisor who pretty much everybody knew was gay and nobody objected to as long as he kept it discrete (one of those interesting disconnects that seems to happen twixt doctrine and practice). Everybody who knew him liked him, and he later became a quite popular minister in the church that sponsored the troop. I recently read of his retirement, after a long and honored career.
There were also at least three members of the troop who later emerged from the closet, to nobody’s real surprise. We certainly never had any problems with their orientation.
Nobody in the troop ever claimed or was even rumored to have been molested on a campout or any other scouting activity.
This is of course the same old deliberate attempt by the church to confuse homosexuality with pedophilia.

What’s funny is Nathaniel’s overlooking this part of what Palin said:

“We believe that the BEST of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, …”

Things are judged on a ratings scale — for example, from worst, through good, better, and best.

If “small towns” are the “BEST” of America, then everywhere else has to be lower on the ratings.

In other words, all those who live in cities are worse Americans than the small town denizens. That sure makes the best Americans a tiny minority!

It is ENTIRELY possible that Barrack Obama is a “fake American” —

Look, I wish someone OTHER than Phil Berg, a conspiracy kook Democrat, PUMA Clinton supporter, had brought this up, but even a broken clock is right twice a day.

The Michigan Law Review predicted that Berg would have “standing” problems in Federal Court:

    http://www.michiganlawreview.org/firstimpressions/vol107/tokaji.htm

I would also agree with many who say that STATE courts are the proper venue, at this time, for this matter. The “standing” requirement is not so strong, at the State level. There are currently 9 (NINE!) different state-court lawsuits on this matter, with more to come.

Here is a good “catalogue” of various views and links, on this issue:

    http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/chat/2114092/posts?page=1

Before you lefties attack this post, be advised that the “Certificate” copies posted on the Obama website, and on Daily Kos, leave serious doubts, and only serve to prove that Obama is hiding something.

First of all, In Hawaii, it is entirely possible to be born outside the country, and then to have a “Certificate of Live Birth” created, simply for identification purposes. The fact that a COLB exits does NOT prove the place of birth.

Next, the copies posted by the Daily Kos and the Obama campaign do not match.

Finally, there are serious concerns that these “certificates” have been altered.

I think it is very, very strange that Obama does not release his “vault copy” of his official, original Birth Certificate. Why challenge “standing” and do all these legal gymnastics?

On the other hand, why RUN for President if you know this is a problem?

I am guessing that Obama WAS born in Hawaii, but that his VAULT COPY of his Birth Certificate contains something Obama does not want us to see.

Why? Well, for starters, Obama said so, in his own legal response to the Berg lawsuit. Obama told the Court that release of his Birth Certificate would cause “embarrassement”!

Perhaps the Father line is left blank?

Perhaps Communist Frank Marshal Davis is listed as his Father?

Perhaps the word “Mohammed” is used, in his original name.

Perhaps “Barry” is used as his first name, and Barrack would have to explain why he actually chose his name, rather than whine about being burdened by his name.

Or — perhaps Obama’s VAULT COPY of his valid Hawaii Birth Certificate proves that Obama was NOT born in the United States?

I find it hard to believe that Obama would put us all through this if Obama was NOT born in the United States. Therefore, I think one of the other options is more likely the reason that Obama would feel “embarrassed” by release of his actual records.

Let us not forget, however, that Obama has refused to release his records from Columbia University and Harvard, his Illinois Bar application and other records, like his passport.

What if Obama qualified for a “foreign exchange student” scholarship, while at Columbia? Hey, theories like this could be put to rest, if only Obama would do the right thing and release his records, like most candidates do.

Why does any of this matter?

Indonesia does NOT allow dual citizenship, and Obama WAS a citizen of Indonesia, if he actually was adopted by Lolo Soetero, during the time Obama lived in Jakarta.

In such a case, Obama would have jump through some hoops to regain his United States Citizenship.

Obama might be a citizen of Kenya.

Obama might be a citizen of Indonesia.

Obama probably is a citizen of the United States, but Obama refuses to address this matter.

    Why?

By the way, Obama’s recent trip to Hawaii had little to do with Obama’s grandmother.

Obama announced this “emergency” 3 days before he went to Hawaii.

Obama did not take his daughters or Michelle with him, to Hawaii. Rather odd, don’t you think?

Obama did take a team of lawyers to Hawaii.

Obama only met with his “White Grandmother” for an hour, on his first visit.
    —–
Obama’s mother was not old enough to pass citizenship to her son, if Obama was not born in the United States.

    That is the law.

Obama should respect our right to ask these questions, and Obama should answer these concerns by promptly releasing all of his records, including the VAULT COPY of his Birth Certificate.

I am guessing that 20 states, at this rate, will have state court lawsuits demanding some type of state court redress, prior to the election.

Lawsuits, of course, could still be filed after the election, prior to Congress certifying the Electoral College vote.

States COULD command their various electors NOT to cast ballots for Obama, if Obama is not qualified.

This outcome is not that much of a longshot.

I had expected Obama to release his records, by now. The fact that Obama has not done so proves that Obama has much more to hide.
