Have obnoxious cable guy moderate last debate

Last week’s presidential debate was so boring, it’s tempting to second the call by Kansas City Star columnist Steve Kraske that Wednesday night’s moderator not be a well-behaved guy like CBS News’ Bob Schieffer but rather a “Bill O’Reilly or Chris Matthews (in photo) type. A classless, obnoxious TV windbag unafraid to step in and mix it up before 70 or 80 million people and force these guys to answer questions.” I’d personally like to see Nancy Grace unleashed on Barack Obama and John McCain, who have been too casual in both debates about turning to their talking points.

O’Reilly would probably do a damn fine job.

Chris Matthews would be to distracted by all of the shivers.

“O’Reilly would probably do a damn fine job.”

Bullsh*t. O’Reilly does terrible in a format where he can not control the mic. I can see it now, Obama’s answering a question and O’Reilly’s saying “That’s enough, that’s ENOUGH Senator! Shut off his mic!!”

“Chris Matthews would be to distracted by all of the shivers.”

Matthews would probably do marginally better than O’Reilly, particularly when he is away from Olberman.

As for Nancy Grace, are you kidding? She would be asking where body is.

The problem with asking an obnoxious guy or gal to moderate a debate is that the reason why these guys (and gals) are obnoxious is that ultimately it is all about them. They would try to become the story of the presidential debate rather than the candidates. I would see any one of the guys mentioned interrupting the candidate before his time is up.

You can always get powder face Couric. Why even have a debate the MSM will declare a win for “0″?

I was under the impression by the article title that they were recommending Larry the cable guy. Personally I think he would do better than the people they are putting in charge of it so far. That’s not an endorsement of his powers of moderation. More a comment on the pathetic abilities of those currently responsible.

Let Rachel Maddow do it. She’s funny and smart. She’s also polite and well mannered.

But then, no one wants to watch smart, polite, and well mannered.

And if it’s funny you want, let Bill Maher or Chris Rock do it…

Since it’s okay to have a woman who wrote a pro-Obama book mediate the last debate, let’s have Pat Buchanan or Newt Gingrich mediate this one…..

    Newt would be interesting.

Forget Buchanan and Gingrich. What we need is Jerome Corsi to moderate. In case you don’t remember the name, he wrote “Unfit for Command” and founded “Swift boat Veterans for Truth”. I’m sure he could be just as fair and non partisan as Gwen Iffil was.

How about one of these Veterans to moderate a debate?

I agree Chris, any of those three would ask some “real” questions, that inquiring minds want to know.

Clearly, Gwen was, as always, professional in the way she moderated the debate. And guess what, I actually would second Pat Buchanan in such a role. He would actually fit the bill of being tough but, I suspect in a moderation assignment, fair. Not sure about Newt, but I wouldn’t see it out of the range of possibility that he could fairly moderate a debate. I think the late William F. Buckley would have potentially done a great job.

And Rachel Maddow and John Stewart are a couple of others whose own views are clear but who would probably do a professional job (yes, I know the latter is a comedian, but do if you watched how he handles guests, including those who he clearly disagrees with, with an objective eye, you would see what I mean).
