Raptor – agreed. Having relocated in the past I can tell you that employment opportunities, schools, housing ALL were more important than “where’s the nearest bar?”

Then why didnt the WE board and opinion hit on the head all the business people and city leadership for not supporting the Casino.

Im guessing because the business people buy ads in our paper. So lets start smacking them around in public for not allowing the Casino. And why isnt the river bank being allotted out to build restaurants and clubs and art bistros as they are in the RiverWalk in San Antonio. The businesses need to be down on the sidewalk all up and down the river.

Somehow, to me the idea of ‘nightlife’ being a reason to move to or stay in a town doesn’t make a lot of sense. People move for lots of reasons..job, family, climate…but I can’t fathom moving somewhere “for the nightlife”.

Granted, my not knowing of it doesn’t deny the possibility..but has anyone ever heard of someone moving to/from a town for the bars?

Seems like a strange priority compared with jobs, safe streets, low taxes, etc., that tend to draw people.

Well what night life would you suggest — lots of bars downtown / uptown everywhere — live music almost everywhere — Karoake seems crowded at all its venues — there’s always the 24 hour walmarts and walgreens — several places sponsor nights with — xoo / art museum /

great to say more night life how about some brilliant ideas — oh wait ask visioneering wichita to send 50 folks to what vegas — you voted down a county casino — oh wait ask the Minnesota boys they have been bringing most of the original ideas to town ….

I find it odd to have the need to attract and keep young people, for several reasons.
1 – Where have they gone to?
2 – Largest demographic in the retirement years.
3 – Illegal immigration to re-supply a work force.
4 – Choice of lifestyle dictates family values.
And 5 is the United States paying a price for their rights to abortion?

More night life would be great!! As always consideration about zoning and other issues would need to be considered. Just because theres been a few people who have caused problems doesn’t mean we should all sit at home on Friday and Saturday night whatching TV. There are some great things going on in Wichita!

Actually, it is a refreshing change to see something posted here that is NOT political. There used to be a lot of local issue topics on this forum. I for one would love to see them return…this constant political bickering is tiresome.

I’m not sure I get the connection between what is essentially a political forum and Wichita’s nightlife.

Jazz joints, blues joints, rock clubs, hip-hop hangouts, sports bars, taverns, cocktail lounges, tapa places, strip clubs… seems they should live or die on that most basic conservative concept: What the market can sustain.

If I want to open a Topless Square Dance Club, what’s the political issue involved?

Do you really think young people of today are clamoring for more bars and dives, particularly in the present day environment of police blanketing the streets for drinking drivers?
