Tina Fey makes perfect Palin

If you haven’t seen it yet — or even if you have — be sure to watch Tina Fey imitating Sarah Palin on “Saturday Night Live.”

I quit watching Saturday Night Live quite some time ago but I think that this was hilarious. They both portrayed them well and they put a lot of humor into it. What’s amazing was it was funny without being hateful and that is what made it so good. It would be nice if a lot of people could laugh at themselves just as they laugh at others. I was able to laugh at the jokes about Palin just as much as the ones about Clinton. It was done in good taste.

Except for Bush, never has the press attacked a candidate more then Palin.

This is an unprecedented attack in scope and repetitiveness.

Let me ask, please, have we ever elected a “nothing” man?

    I’m serious here.

I’m looking at a financial crisis I haven’t seen in my 60+ years. Two wars. Testosterone gone amuck and maybe ready to start several more wars. Corruption that is so rampant we have forgotten more than we remember. The newest bright and shiny objects have attracted us away from the ones before.

I am seriously pi**ed. And it just happens that I am ONE from the largest voting block — females. Think about it, guys. There is no larger voting block than females. Do you really want ALL of us seriously pi**ed?

Is it even possible for you gentlemen to realize that behind the scenes women are always there. Think hard about the women your life — Mom, wife, daughters, sisters… Are there some strong ones? Are there soem who have made a difference?

Maybe it’s time for all women have done behind the scenes to come out of hiding. Maybe Sarah Palin is the place to start. Does anyone here think if she spends the next four years as vice president that she won’t run for president in 2012? Does anyone think the Democratic Party won’t field a female candidate also?

I think you boys better be ready for some really big changes. Bigger changes than you’ve even seriously thought about.

I know everyone is really excited over Sarah Palin — some negatively, others positively. But I think the males haven’t really realized what the future holds.

I’m not concerned over the sex, or race of the candidate, just the competence, and religious beliefs insofar as they impact policy. Worries me that someone would consult their preacher on guidane to every day matters.

My son & I watched the video and he said that they poked more fun at Hillary than they did Palin. That I noticed too. I told him for one thing, everyone has known Hillary for a long time and Palin for only a few weeks so there is a lot more to joke about on Hillary. I thought she did Hillary really well. Of course, if we all want to be honest this is just a skit, not reality. They over exaggerated the personalities, that is what made it so funny.

The glass ceiling shouldn’t be shattered just to be shattered. It should be broken because the candidate is capable and intelligent – the best possible candidate winning because of her merits. Palin is not that candidate. Not as VP not as president.

Lots of women have vaginas, but few have the hallowed b.s. (or more likely) b.a. in communications, fewer still have been mayor of a podunk town in Alaska, and propelled into the Governorship, then catapulted into the v.p. candidate slot. Sounds like a Cinderella story. Even if Cinderella’s true nature is more like the mean stepmother.

  46. Royall
    Posted September 15, 2008 at 7:05 pm | Permalink

I wonder if John McCain, in his ever-so-sincere quest to shatter the glass ceiling for women, gave any thought to Olympia Snowe for the VP slot. For one thing, she’s experienced. She was first elected to Congress in ‘73. She has been a Senator from Maine since ‘94. She has been on several committees, including, I believe, the Select Committee on Intelligence. She is a level-headed politician who knows the game and knows her business. Her approval rating in Maine has generally been quite good.

So why would McCain pass her by? Without question, had he selected her, the qualifications questions would not have been raised. It’s generally understood that Snowe is a person who can be relied upon in Washington.

In addition, if McCain truly wanted to entice Hillary Clinton’s supporters, then Snowe is a better fit. She is much more moderate on social issues than Sarah Palin…oh, gee, have I hit on something, here?

Maybe the evangelical base would not have been quite so excited about Snowe, hey? The moderate viewpoint, as it were, is on the outs in the Republican party, and has been for some time now.

Or maybe Olympia Snowe would have brought a genuine, persuasive, political point-of-view to the negotiating table. Maybe she can be too…forceful or uncompromising (wow, almost like a real maverick instead of a fraudulent one).

Maybe Olympia Snowe is too morally centered of a person to agree to run the kind of race-baiting, mendacious campaign that McCain has opened up.

Are the neocons looking for such a thing in a woman candidate? Well, I have my doubts.

The other thing about Sarah Palin is that she’s younger and, well…never mind.

Actually, no. I’m not scared of Sarah Palin, but I am disgusted with McCain choosing her. Why? He chose her for all the wrong reasons. Royall is correct. Olympia Snowe would have been a better choice, by far, and she isn’t the only one. There are several females in the senate and other political areas who are knowledgeable, with much better credentials and education.

and scrambling to try and bring her down, the jackals that they are.

She’s doing a good job of bringing herself down.

Women aren’t as stupid as some of you men would like to think. Many of you are defending her for the same wrong reasons McCain chose her. Oh, yes, and that you think she’s a hottie. Nothing but a bunch of male chauvanist pigs…without lipstick. Or maybe with?

But you know, there is such a thing as trying to go to the poison well too often.

[FE]Yeah, that’s a good idea. You accuse two women, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, of being sexist because you think those women, one of whom was the former head writer of SNL, were making fun of your candidate while elevating another woman in politics.
