Can there be any bigger insult to a political party than a key speech by its former vice presidential nominee at the opposing party’s convention? Yet there was ex-Democrat Joe Lieberman Tuesday night in St. Paul, Minn., telling Republicans, “I sincerely believe that the real ticket for change this year is the McCain-Palin ticket.” Lieberman’s affection and admiration for GOP nominee John McCain came through. The question is whether, speaking at such a forum, he got through to his target audience of independents, Reagan Democrats, Clinton Democrats or “plain old” Democrats — many of whom probably were less inspired than infuriated by his remarks.

Joe Lieberman was dumped by his party because he dared to stray from the liberal plantation. He did not leave the party, they trashed him. . .and he survived.
Karma’s a bitch.

Hey Joe?
Can’t wait for you to see your new seat and office after the Dems get 60 seats.
Sellout.
Yeah, Uncle Joe Lieberman slapped some fat Democratic jowls last night.
Those ponderous jowls are still reverberating in the wind. :D
Suck-up Joe will now do whatever is necessary. The Dems won’t take him back, being an Independent hasn’t done him any good, so it’s groveling at the feet of the Reps now.
And I’ll say it again, even after I watched an old video of Joe, he sounds like one of the Whiner Family from the old SNL.
I didn’t hear him say anything he hadn’t said several times before. Was someone paying attention for the first time last night?

Just the fact that Lieberman was there at the Republican National Convention says volumes.
Lieberman after all, was the running mate of Al Gore. :D
heeheehehehehehehehe…hehehehehe
Poor old Joe, wants to be noticed so bad, he would sell out his own grandmother. What a sad, pathetic little man. Why the senate Democrats let him caucus with them is beyond me. Cut him loose, let him be a true independent. Who would listen listen to him? There is no way he swayed any Democrats to the McCain/Palin ticket with his whinny speech last night.
Lieberman has minimized his importance in the upcoming Democratic controlled congress. He will forever be an outsider to the dem. party.

Well that just says it all. Lets talk for a minute exactly why Lieberman is supporting the republican party. Its because he’s Jewish. And apparently his allegience is to Israel more than to America. He’s got in with the fundies who look at Israel as an extension of God- or the USA itself. That anything Israel does MUST be supported in order to make armageddon come.
I still do not understand why Jews think Christians actually support them. Its really disgusting the whole thing. Christians only support Jews because their Godbook tells them that Jews will convert or die in the end times and that Israel must stand in order for the prophesy to be fulfilled.
I mean seriously, it like gives Israel a big fat pass to do whatever they please, because they know their big bully friend will support them no matter what they do.
We have GOT to unmarry Church and State in foreign policy folks. And Christians, if its God’s plan, stop interfering- really. Or don’t you trust enough in God?
Its because he’s Jewish

As we all know, Republicans are always evil and always Jewish.

But Ben, the Democrats are used to making lots of those. :D
Joe Lieberman is a true success story, who believes in the power of the people. Why would he worry about the Democrats? They threw him under the bus during the last election, He ran as an independent and won. Not everyone is hypnotized by the Obama-messiah.

More evidence of the liberals pigeon holing folks. Gotta put a label and a group on everything. How American of you.
And the hate…
I didn’t like Lieberman when he was running for v.p.
The nutty RWers think of the Jews as their sacrificial lambs to bring about the end times. The Jews are smart enough to play it for all it’s worth.
Lieberman is Jewish ?!?
Damn Jews, eh P.M., Phantom?
“He will forever be an outsider to the dem. party.”
Whaaaaa! Sniff…Sniff….Got a tissue? This is really tragic.
Why is this a strange venue? joe’s a member of the industrail miltary god complex represented at that thar convention.

Yea he should have toe’d the party line. So much for “change.”
I can’t see how anyone could view this as strange. Lieberman initially won office running to the right of one of the last true Republican mavericks, Lowell Weicker. He’s always been a Republican at heart.
Al Gore’s choice was to shore up the right-wing AIPAC faction in that election.
P.S. libdave: Why the senate Democrats let him caucus with them is beyond me.
If they kick Joe out of the caucus, he’ll go caucus with the Republicans, making the political division 50-50. With Cheney as VP, the Repubs arguably have a political majority–there goes the chairmanships of the committees, giving control to the Republicans.
So Reid has to play nice until next January. I suspect Holy Joe sees it coming, and is already making plans to become a Republican in full.
Rage,
Ya, I forgot about the 50/50 split. Make more sense now.
Make= Makes
As I understand, Lieberman affiliates with Conservative Judaism; not quite Orthodox, not quite Reformed. I suspect, as the only Jewish Senator, a lot of his personal political financial infrastructure comes from American Zionist Jews. A Jewish friend once told me “American Zionists are much more Zionist than Israeli Zionists.”
I dunno.
But it seems to me, if American treasure and blood are spent in the Middle East instead of Israeli lives and treasure, it’s pretty okay with Israeli Zionists. And it’s Joe Lieberman’s political life-line.
And there’s something peculiar about relations between African Americans and Jewish Americans I never could quite figure out. In the first half of the 20th Century those communities were allies; they were both discriminated against and came together to outlaw lynching and promote civil rights “…regardless or race, religion, or creed.”
Jesse Jackson got in trouble for referring to “Hymie Town,” as well he should have. Maybe some Jews have said similar stuff but are more media savvy and didn’t get caught on an open mike. I dunno.
But there is an undercurrent among some Jewish people against some African Americans (and vice versa) that simply astounds me. I just don’t get it. It’s hard to comprehend, much less understand.
But after he lost the Democratic Senate primary in 2006, Joe went into ultimate survivor mode. He seems like someone who will advocate killing any Muslim and all Muslim rather than anything resembling rapprochement with people who’ve been living alongside each other — never always liking it, but sometimes not killing each other over it — for 10,000 years.
Lieberman is using up a lot of his political collateral by siding with the “More War Against the Infidels” faction of the Republic Party. Most of the Twice-Born seem to be rooting for Armageddon, the sooner the better.
Strange bedfellows. Really, really, strange.
Why maybe in 2012, Lieberman and Tom DeLay can run for prez and vp under the “I pay for votes” party. Maybe Jack Abramoff can run their campaign. You gotta be really desperate to let either in your convention.

Don’t forget Abramhoff gave to both parties.
You might be on to something here. The dems could run Rezko and Ayers as their prez and vp. The libs would just be gaga over that ticket.
It is such a relief to know just how stupid our enemy truly is. Joe Lieberman should be a dream come true for any so called “Progressive”. And contrary to what Rage says, Joe did not run to the right of Lowell Weicker to win his seat. Rage has posted this BS before when Lieberman’s name came up and it is just not true.
Any fool who takes the time to check Joe’s record will see that on any issue that libs and cons fight over, he is squarely in the corner of the liberal/progressive movement. Whether its abortion, gays, guns, or taxation, the left couldn’t ask for a bigger advocate. Its only on the war on terror that Joe goes his own way. And you petty little people want to crucify him for it. I thought opposing your party and going off the reservation once in a while was a virtue. Oh, thats only for republicans isn’t it? This isn’t Zel Miller, who actually believed in conservative ideals and principals. This is a true blue liberal democrat who was driven from his party for straying on one issue. Do you people realize how stupid you look to the rest of the Country? Most of the rest of us would kill to have someone on our side who we disagree with on only one issue.
Maybe someday the Democrats will wake up and realize that the far left and especially the left wing blogosphere is driving the Obama/Biden campaign bus right off the cliff. I just hope they don’t wake up to soon.

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) — A new poll suggests that Barack Obama is widening his lead over John McCain in two battleground states but indicates the race is dead even in Ohio, the state that decided the last presidential election.
John McCain gets the support of white voters in Ohio, while in Iowa and Minnesota they lean toward Barack Obama.
John McCain gets the support of white voters in Ohio, while in Iowa and Minnesota they lean toward Barack Obama.
In a CNN/Time/Opinion Research Corp. survey out Wednesday afternoon, 55 percent of Iowa registered voters who were questioned said that Obama, D-Illinois, is their choice for president, with 40 percent backing McCain, R-Arizona. That’s more than double the lead Obama had in a University of Iowa poll taken early last month.

Keep on dreaming. If I was a democrat right now, I’d believe anything. It’s a poll so it must be true?! It’s true, It’s true!!!
Tonight, Palin is going to kick Obama’s butt. However, she is really going to kick the MSM’s butt. If I were the MSM, I’d be shaking in my boots more than what Obama is doing now. She is going to expose them for the liars and incompetents and the sleaze that they really are.
He is so desperate, that he has scheduled a speech on the very same day that McCain is going to speak. Now that is not only an act of desperation but hitting below the belt.
And don’t tell me that McCain did the same thing to Obama when he announced Palin as his VP pick. That was on the next day and in the afternoon. He was entitled to announce his VP, Obama is just trying to trump McCain’s speech. Not to worry, though. Obama is already getting to the level of “Obama who?”

Okay I was wrong. Are you happy now? Now how about addressing what I posted today, not last Friday? You can’t can you? Lieberman was a good democrat who was trashed by people who are not even good enough to wipe his butt. Lieberman will have a senate seat from Connecticut as long as he wants one. Ned Lament will never be a senator. Go read his blog on todays Huffington Post if you want to see what a sore loser really looks like. All his money and all the favorable press in the world could not elect him even in a democrat year. Spend all your time and energy hating and trashing Joe Lieberman. Meanwhile, the Presidency has already slipped through your hands once more and your dreams of a fillabuster proof senate and fifty seat house majority are fading faster than the KC Royals in August.
Oh for christ sake I speak the truth and suddenly I’m hitler-lite for doing so? I have nothing against the Jews for their religious sake. I do have an issue with putting the interests of another nation over our own especially when it is for BS biblical fairy tales.
Notice the religious right coming to Lieberman’s rescue. Joe has always been a moderate. If he was the flaming liberal you claim him to be- you’d be all over him.
I’m surprised that your republican evangelicals didn’t mandate you vote for him or vote against God.
Do you NOT get why this is so important to the godspeakers? Israel needs to be accountable for their own acts. If they are attacked and it is unnecessary- we should defend them. If they attack we should chastise them.
What is so freaking hard about that? It isn’t hating, it isn’t indifferent. As Americans, OUR INTERESTS COME FIRST. Israel is not an extension of the USA. Get that through your heads fundies. And tell that to Lieberman too. Our constitution says clearly that our nation isn’t Christianity based. It says nothing about Israel being a surrogate. KEEP YOUR RELIGION OUT OF OUR POLICY. If you want to go over and die for them, be my guest, perhaps they can create an airline just for you. I’m sure Pat Robertson has one.
Has anyone ever suspected that Christianity originated as a scheme by a few Jews to foist Jewish values, and Jewish folklore onto Gentiles, for some unknown purpose.
Yes, I know all about the suffering of Jews at the hands of Christians, but still people were in those times clever and political enough to discuss such a thing. And what better way to make allies than to destroy thier traditions and folklore, and exchange it all with Jewish folklore and traditions
How could anyone have forseen that Rome would adopt Christianity, and spread it all through Europe and parts of Asia? Thus the history of the Jews became the history of western civilization, when in reality, it had nothing to do with it.
In other words folks, If people didn’t think Adam was their grandpa, no one would give a damn about some insignificant ethnic group from the Middle East.
Lieberman could lose chairmanship, Democrats warn
WASHINGTON (CNN) — Sen. Joe Lieberman’s speech before the Republican National Convention on Tuesday night could cost him the chairmanship of a key Senate committee, a top Senate Democratic aide told CNN.
During his address to Republicans, Lieberman said, “Sen. Barack Obama is a gifted and eloquent young man who I think can do great things for our country in the years ahead, but, my friends, eloquence is no substitute for a record, not in these tough times for America.”
That comment, and Lieberman’s suggestion that Obama had not reached across the aisle to work with Republicans in the Senate, drew the ire of Democrats, who accused their 2000 vice presidential nominee of lying about their nominee.
“You know, it’s a little bit sad, because Joe Lieberman has been a distinguished public servant.”
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/03/lieberman.chairmanship/?iref=mpstoryview
I liked Joe Lieberman when he was a democrat.
Although the wrapper has changed, he is still the same candy underneath.
He gave up the party not to join a person, but an idea.
And it hurts.
“Lieberman could lose chairmanship”
See he is so committed to the right cause that he is willing to give up power.
That is commitment.
That from a man who was on the INSIDE of the demcorat party. Someone who walked the INNER CIRCLES. Someone who saw the horror of liberalism and walked away, knowing he could loose everything.
There must be something terribly wrong with democrats to make a man do that.
You can’t spell LIEberman without the LIE.
You are so right American Way. It is obvious that the hard left, just like the people they send to Washington have no concept of honor or the willingness to sacrifice everything to take a hard stand for whats right. After all they are all about gaining and keeping power. To die, either literally or politically for a cause you believe in is as foreign a concept to them as duty, patriotism and courage and they cannot understand anybody who would. That is why they try to paint Joe Lieberman as a tool of the Israelis. Joe Lieberman parted ways with the Democrats over the war, not because the Israeli Lobby told him to, but because they are wrong, wrong, wrong.
Wasn’t that cute CapnAmerica?
Did you grab that off the tape recording and are now just regurgitating it here?
But I must admit, it was a very profound statement coming from you. Congratulations.
“why they try to paint Joe Lieberman”
Chris they are like animals. They will even eat their own.
