Animals that were formerly self-sufficient are now showing signs of belonging to the Democratic Party…as they have apparently learned to simply sit and wait for the government to provide for their care and sustenance.
McCain/Palin would attempt to stop, or at least slow, this terrible socialistic progression that destroys the animals self-sufficiency.
Wonder if this could work with people too?

    Oops!!

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Two Navy SEALs attending the Republican National Convention were there in a private capacity only and should not have been publicly recognized during the event, a Navy spokesman told CNN Thursday.

The men were acknowledged from the podium at the Xcel Energy Center Wednesday evening by Orson Swindle, a former POW cellmate of Republican presidential candidate John McCain, who pointed them out and asked them to stand.

They did so, but appeared to be visibly uncomfortable.

The men, wearing civilian clothes, had been given permission to attend the St. Paul, Minnesota, event to support the family of their close friend and fellow SEAL Michael Mansoor, who was killed in action in Iraq, said Navy spokesman Cmdr. Jeff Davis.

I am SO enjoying this high the cons think they are riding.

I wonder if John McCain has any idea how many people in his audience, in his own party are wishing urgently for his timely death?

That’s the best they’ve got. And today, it feels good for them.

It’s going to be SO much fun to see it all go down in flames!

It’s no big deal. They were there to acknowledge a fallen comrade.

    Just another swindler:
Swindle is also on the board of Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW), an independent political advocacy group that seeks to eliminate waste, mismanagement, and inefficiency in the federal government. Throughout its history, CAGW has been accused of fronting lobbying efforts of corporations to give them the appearance of “grassroots” support.[3] In part, this is because CAGW has accepted donations from Phillip Morris, the Olin Foundation, the Bradley Foundation, Microsoft, Merrill-Lynch, and Exxon-Mobil. CAGW also has ties to convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff.[4] While CAGW describes itself as non-partisan, it has endorsed John McCain[5] for president and donated $11,000 to his campaign or groups controlled by him.

He gave the opening speech on the second day (2 September 2008) of the hurricane-shortened 2008 Republican National Convention.[6

Who belittled those Navy Seals? No reason why they shouldn’t or couldn’t be there to honor their friend.

Why wasn’t someone there who knew they shouldn’t be “recognized” in the manner they were? It was a goof that shouldn’t have been made, especially since McCain is a veteran. Oh, and a POW, too!

I somewhat agree with that, with this exception:

I believe the young man ended up with the Medal of Honor and it is a public duty to honor him at events, even if they are political.

We, as the public, owe him and his family for his sacrifice.

And if there is no difference in policy- and Bush has run America so bad that the republicans have distanced themselves this much to steal ‘Change” from Obama- then what change do they propose?

You and the cons care nothing about the country or your fellow American.

YOU yourself provided example in the Creekstone beef thread yesterday. A company that wants to test it’s product for safety, the bush business government says no and you side with that?

Republicans care about nothing but the accumulation of their own money and power. Everything else is expendable to that.

    What failed policies specifically?

The surge succeeded as painful as it is for you Libs to admit.

Our GDP is the largest in the nation’s history.

McCain has no policies right now, as he is not president. One only makes policy AFTER being elected.

So what failed policies has McCain implemented?

Heck Regular, you are giving the parasite considerably more credit than I have observed he deserves.
He doesn’t appear to me to even want to take the initiative to stick his head through to the other side, taking somebody else’s property himself. He simply wants the government to thieve it for him and give it to him.

    ————–
Actually no. They were citizens who were involved as much as the British let them be involved.

George Washington did surveying for quite a long time for the British Army.

A lot of the official duties were relegated to the British. Citizens could volunteer for the militia and do some mundane duties if they weren’t appointed by the ‘Crown.’

From my genealogy studies, lot of the activities were mostly with a church, exploration, farming and social events (marriage, etc.)

Everyday living back then was quite a chore by itself.

Secret meetings were held of course, but without the knowledge or approval of the Crown.

Tracking the subsequent use of “my friends” through inaugural, State of the Union, and convention acceptance addresses reveals a pattern. While there’s occasional use of “my friends” among most 20th-century candidates and presidents—and even a few 19th-century ones, right back to Jefferson—its persistent use is a different matter:

    Franklin Roosevelt’s 1932 convention acceptance speech: 11
Adlai Stevenson’s 1952 convention acceptance speech: six
Dwight Eisenhower’s 1956 convention acceptance speech: six
Richard Nixon’s 1968 convention acceptance speech: five
George H.W. Bush’s 1988 convention acceptance speech: four
Michael Dukakis’ 1988 convention acceptance speech: seven
    George H.W. Bush’s 1989 inaugural address: four
George H.W. Bush’s 1989 State of the Union address: four

McCain falls neatly into line: Roughly every generation since FDR, a candidate resurrects “my friends.” But while used in its first few decades by good or great orators, it’s notable that in the last half-century it’s been exclusively resorted to by the worst orators in our presidential races.

Some observations of a registered independent of 10 years standing.

First time in memory I’ve seen protesters heckling a nominee’s acceptance speech. Certainly, the only time I’ve seen military veterans protesting one. Did the TV feed include the guy wearing the Iraq Veterans against the war t-shirt, with his two signs “You can’t win an occupation” and “McCain votes against veterans”?

John did pretty well, for what’s it worth. From a policy standpoint, the speech was awful: no specifics, and a whole lotta rightwing shibboleths to please the base. But he did a good job of, fairly convincingly saying, yeah, we fucked up. I’m here to make it right; look at how much I’ve butted heads with my own party.

There are severe problems with that argument, most glaringly the myth that the Republican party ever stood for fiscal responsiblity or even limited government (ha!). If that was ever true, it didn’t happen in my lifetime.

Being cynically realistic, I regard the speech as a moderate political success but a reality failure. He’ll get a small “bounce.” But it was completely disconnected from the real issues that average folks face each day. Yeah, he gave them lip service–in the “I feel your pain” fashion–but he studiously avoided addressing the causes. His approach to conflicts seems black-and-white, reward our friends, punish our enemies. And when his solution to outsourcing is tax breaks for the same people doing the outsourcing, honestly: does this guy even know what the fuck he’s talking about?

Having observed John McCain over a 22-year period, I will say he’s a complex beast. He’s not Bush. yet he has vowed, for mystifying reasons, to continue his destructive policies. Can we count on Feb 2009 about-face (ala Clinton’s middle-class tax cut?). The stakes are too high to take that chance.

No, he’s not Bush III, but, sorry: being John McCain is bad enough.

Facts are that every Republican who was enthusiastic there is a equal and opposite enthusiasm generated in the Democratic Party.

And, there happen to be more registered Democrats than Republicans. Although, the fastest growing political persuasion is Independent.

So all McCain has to do is convince all the Republicans (I think he can do that easily) and enough of the Independents, which seems rather unlikely since they are much smarter than the average Republican.

No one with sense wants more of what we’ve had and everyone with sense knows McCain offers nothing different from the failures of bush.

I recommend that method for anyone who wants to know the real ‘roots’ of the United States. You know, instead of what the History Channel tells you or what you read in the ‘CliffsNotes’ versions in History books taught in schools.

From the Star Tribune, Minneapolis-St. Paul

Ah, fond memories: Riot gear, anarchists and the GOP

That was fun. Let’s never do it again.

The 2008 Republican Convention wrapped up Thursday with John McCain’s acceptance speech, a deluge of red, white and blue balloons, and a final spasm of protests and arrests. Thank goodness it’s over: Half the businesses in St. Paul would go broke if it went any longer.

Many restaurants and shops were as empty as New Orleans, and as McCain’s speech approached, office workers left early, advised to go home in case there was more trouble between the cops and the anarchist/narcissists who were making another play for TV time. It felt like Gustav was heading for St. Paul this time.

I told visitors to come and see St. Paul again, sometime. When we don’t look like Harry Houdini. But they already know the drill — Minneapolis is where the fun is, St. Paul is where you go to pray, or get arrested. Or both, this week.

Then there is Tim Pawlenty, the only guy who made out worse than the restaurants.

A week ago, he was on the verge of becoming McCain’s running mate. This week, the governor had to bite his tongue while McCain’s people explained that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was chosen because she stood up to the power structure.

Palin described hockey moms like herself as pitbulls with lipstick. Pawlenty lacked the lipstick. And the bite.

T-Paw sang the establishment tune in his yearlong quest to be Veep. In the end, he was too much of a house pet for Maverick McCain.

Close, but no Cohiba with Rush Limbaugh. Pawlenty was left at the altar and now must turn his attention back to good old Minnesota.

    Like the rest of us.

We’re still here. And — I hope this will not offend Republicans — we’re still blue.

    Yes James. I guess.

I remember something about how you were injured by missile parts flying past the canopy.

Funny I cannot find your name as shot down.

In case your (admitted) drug addled mind does not get it?

I don’t think you are a veteran at all.

Maybe you fell down some stairs. And in a better day, this has afforded you disability for the rest of your life.

And you guard that for yourself.

I will leave the issue of the protests–and the typical brutal police treatment of anyone unfortunate enough to be outside–to another day.

Night, folks. Got stuff to do.

I dunno Junior, if you would have had the courage to stop and talk with Steven Davis and I at our meet up, you could have found out more about me.

BTW, I should Steven Davis my retired military ID.

But since you didn’t have the courage and don’t understand that some give up the good things in life just so others can benefit, I’ll let you stew in your own juices – slowly cooking away the rotten flesh surrounding your empty soul.

One more thing. I said this:
<i.He’s not Bush. yet he has vowed, for mystifying reasons, to continue his destructive policies.

He seemed to regain his sanity in the earlier part of the Bush regime, but the fiscal policy is vintage Reagan.

And he had his head up Reagan’s butt for the duration.

    Interesting.

My mom and several other Clinton supporters I know were moved by McCain’s speech.

There is much anger over the media love fest given to Obama.

But the thing is? These same folk are now torn.

They do not feel they can vote for McCain because of Sarah Palin!

I am not yet convinced to vote for Barack Obama. But I too say no way, no how, NO Palin.

    Who exactly have I denied?

To get full retired military benefits, you have to join up, serve the time, go where they tell you and do what they tell you. I did that for over two decades.

I spent 11 years of my life overseas and in some places I wouldn’t even recommend flying over.

You have to actually do something to earn benefits Junior, no one is just going to give them to you, unless you want to be a Welfare recipient. Even then, the statutes restrict the amount of time one can become a burden to the state.

You are what you made yourself Junior, by your choices and your actions.

According to Newsweek, Sarah Palin and family are headed back to AK. Bags were packed and loaded, ready for a flight to Wisconsin(?), as the convention broke up tonight.

    Why?

    Several reasons were given.
    1. Sarah needs a cram session. (No joke.)
    2. They were whisked away practically in the dead of night and have some last minute things to attend to.
    3. (See below)

They expect her to return to the campaign midweek next week.

Let’s not forget that Track is leaving for his deployment on 9/11, so I’m sure this will be a tough time for all of the Palins as they bid him farewell.

So proclaims the shallow troll boy whose most notable characteristic is…his irrelevance. BTW, I just watched Stewart kick Gingrich’s rhetorical *ss by not letting him deflect a question about a fundamental contradiction in Palin’s personal and public personas, and do it with a smile. Many professional pundits and politicians would have taken Gingrich’s bait.

There is a reason why Daily Show viewers were found to be better informed about world events than viewers of Faux News.
