Good question!
Obama is good!
McCain can’t speak without LOTS of blinking!
The eyes may well be the window to the soul, but they also are indicators of the mind’s condition.
Take blinking, for instance. The eyes blink without our control when we are anxious, scared, bored, tired, following the learning or storing of information.
“When people are apprehensive, they blink more frequently, as well as when they are tired,”
“People watching the debates might be able to form a judgment over which candidate they prefer, in part by watching their eyes.
http://news-info.wustl.edu/news/page/normal/4018.html
When is McCain going to answer the question?
McCain “Greed is rewarded”.
Uh yeah that is one of the core ideas of YOUR party!
On the twelfth of never?
Is it just me or does McCain’s voice and manner seem kinda shaky?
Everyone should be shaking to even think he is one of two who may be POTUS! Maybe he realizes that!
It’s nice that John keeps assuring me.
He has, however, managed to control his “my friends!” That’s an improvement!
“Grow the economy from the bottom up.” Obama
YES! THAT is how America was built.
Fifteen minutes in and McCoot brings up his age “I’ve been around here a long time.”
And he’s reciting laugh lines from his stump speech.
They showed a shot that showed McCodger’s osteoporosis — a humpback like Charles Montgomery Burns.
Does McCain even have any idea that he is bringing to light the failures of HIS party? He really is an old coot!
Bore.
This isn’t a debate.
This is a talking points extravaganza.
We NEED new spending!
Our damned bridges are falling down.
McCain’s smirk is sickening! He can’t even control himself.
John?
How much money is ENOUGH for your supporters?
Obama interrupts McCoot and takes the stage.
“And I paid for every dime of it.”
McCain is looking for slogans from his speeches. Obama is talking in the here and now.
Getting McC*nt out of his pre-programed lines doesn’t bode well for the old guy.
MY definition of rich?
$50,000 a year.
$250,000 a year is SUPER rich.
$4 million a year is OBSCENE!
We surely lost track of foreign policy, huh? Too bad, so sad! That was to have been McCain’s subject of strength. ;-)
Re: the Tax Code.
McCain says let us choose which one. I choose NONE! Like our Christian friends here, I want to CHOOSE who and what I give my money to! I want to CHOOSE how much I want to give!
Burning Down The House
what happened
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5tZc8oH–o
Just what is it that McCain is giggling about?
Does he enjoy the suffering of the poor?
McCain can’t compete with this man of confidence! All McCain can do is smirk and repeat his stump speech. I see now why he wanted to suspend his campaign!
I empathize with Obama’s chuckle! I do it every day right here on the blog when I read some of the posts. It’s so ludicrous it’s amusing. Best part is everyone with more than one brain cell recognizes it along with me.
McCain just bragged about killing the Boeing tanker.
Cut spending?
Slash the damned DOD THAT”S where all the waste is!
And, once again, Obama takes control!
I’m glad he brought that up! Palin has been using putting expenditures online as part of her stump speech without even knowing Obama has already accomplished that at the national level!
Obama is totally kicking ass. No wonder McSame tried to get out of it.
McCain is using a axe where you need a scalpel!
“You’re using a hatchet when you need a scalpel.”
That wasn’t off a teleprompter.
Obama nailed McCoot in real time, off the cuff, and on point.
Each time a question is asked to both Obama is RIGHT THERE with an answer while the old coot is still trying to figure out what the question was!
Where are the CONs on this thread?
Have they lost their will to live?
They can’t multi task!
Mccain seems like a giddy grandpa who just saw he is getting pudding for dessert.
Hey I just saw McCain raise his hand above shoulder level!
Another lie. He could use a computer.
I’ll be changing my current healthcare plan from Bush’s Don’t Get Sick to McCain’s Don’t Even Think About Getting Sick.

Where are the CONs on this thread?
Have they lost their will to live?
===========================================
It’s Friday night, most are taking their honeys, kids, friends to dinner or some other activity.
This will be recorded and available. Not a big priority for most people. They’d rather see a movie and relax after a hard week.
The cons are reading their right wing blogs so they know what to think…
He pulled out the “Miss Congeniality” card a second time.
Oh my.
LOOK at McCain waving his “poor crippled arms” around!
Oh, goody! Let’s talk about the war! The same war we talked about 4 years ago and nothing much has changed.
HIs make up is too thick…
And “Regular” is here.
And offers nothing regarding the issues being discussed.
Oh my….
Please, please, somebody ask McCain what victory in Iraq will look like. And just how long it will last.

———————————–
Like I said, this is a talking points extravaganza.
I’ve have yet to see a debate break out.
Heard all of these talking points before, nothing really to discuss.
There’s nothing new.
It’s a boring session.
Which version Pre? We’ve had the goal line moved so many times. No one even knows what we’re fighting for, let alone what victory is. Just someone say WE WON!! Hooray!! And then, bring them home.
But, Regular, look at your clown. He can’t make any points, he can’t control himself, he can’t even interrupt! He is absolutely incompetent!
“You were wrong”
McCoot gives us that strange smile.
Oh my we now need to hear from Grandpa! Another story.
Let us win! heehee
WTF does that mean? Go ahead… win!
McCain talks with his hands and he can’t use a computer?
We won! Hooray! (let’s not ask what we won.)
Obama is doing a lot better than I thought he would.

Okay Ms. Inks, put down the booze. I haven’t called any names here, yet you say a U.S. is a “clown.”
Would you like me to start in on Obama? I promise to make this blog unreadable if that’s what you want.
Don’t bait them… Take the high road.
er U.S. Senator
“Capture and kill Bin Laden”
IRAQ is the central battle ground??
“I promise to make this blog unreadable if that’s what you want.’
Hold your breath instead. Infant.
Taliban is so gaining ground ….. We are stuck in a civil war in Iraq…
McCain looks so old.. even with all that makeup…..
The thick makeup still does not cover up the cancer surgery scars…
“We’ve got to get the support of the people of Pakistan!”
Yeah, that’s a good campaign slogan.
Pakistan is harboring bin Laden.
Absolutely we should violate their territory to get bin Laden if they won’t.
“…and singing songs about bombing Iran.”
Zing!

“We’ve got to get the support of the people of Pakistan!”
Yeah, that’s a good campaign slogan.
———————
Actually, it is a good strategy. This has been brought up before on this blog. Instead of writing a blank check to Pakistan, the U.S. needs to aim aid to the common person, the education system and the ability to achieve short terms of goal of infrastructure in Pakistan.
Writing a check to the leaders of Pakistan doesn’t work, we need to aim it a the common people in Pakistan.
Ya sang “Bomb Iran” John. You thought it was CUTE.
You can’t take that back.
This is one con who is laughing her head off. You can see experience and you can see inexperience. Obama is so far in over his head. Why does he keep looking down? Did he sneak in a pocket size teleprompter? Why does he keep forgetting McCains name?
He sounds like he didn’t get a good nights sleep.
Obama is ignorant on foreign policy he was made to look like an idiot of the failed financial package. He had egg on his face about his one million dollars in earmarks for everyday he has been in office. He didn’t have sense enough to leave that alone and let McCain sting again that he only suspended them when he started campaigning for prez.
He and Linda could laugh together. She thinks POW’s are funny.
Go ahead Regular — give it your best shot! Whatever you post reflects on you. Public people. That’s my personal guideline. I attack, criticize, laugh at and with, make fun of, even call names of PUBLIC PEOPLE. My personal guidelines leave fellow posters alone. I truly believe each of us are entitled to our own opinions and having one different from another means only that — we hold differing opinions. I know fully that denigrating a fellow poster reflects poorly on the person who uses that tactic.
“I’ve got a bracelet, too.”
Zing!
I didn’t like that smirk Obama just gave. And why does he say Taliban like it is something on a French dessert buffet?
Linda miss holier than thou. I talked nice to you and you still insisted on talking down to me ‘thru’ someone else just as you are doing now. I can take it. Pile on but don’t pretend you don’t do what you just accussed others of doing.
Now back to the debate.
“okobserver” asks –
“… why does he say Taliban like it is something on a French dessert buffet?”
I think I speak for most rational people when I ask, “Huh?”
Okobserver, we know from earlier posts by you that you are a racial bigot.

And McCain simply mimicked Obama on the pronunciation of Taliban…
———————–
The British pronounce “Taliban” differently than Americans, so do the French, Germans.
What’s your point?
Notice all of that eye blinking from Obama.
Ok McCain is into the “be afraid of everything!” mode.
“The average South Korean is three inches taller than the average North Korean.”
What the hell?!
So now I’m rascist if I say silly things like others on here. Why is it funny for some and not others.
He just put Obama down bigtime.
Obama brings up that even bush has learned from his mistakes!
I can talk louder than you. yah yah
I think we have McCain close to exploding! If Obama wasn’t as kind a gentleman he could push to the point McCain would prove his reputation.
Oh no Obama has fallen back to the ahahahas
BJ are you rascist when you make fun of Bush for saying nuclur.
What’s your point?
What’s yours, Regular? okobserver brought it up. I simply mentioned that McCain said it the same way, although I don’t recall hearing him say it that way previously.
““The average South Korean is three inches taller than the average North Korean.”
What the hell?!”
Second that!
McCain : “I don’t even have a seal yet.”
HUH?
Looking down again. Making up a lie?
BJ I loved that seal remark too. Obomination.
Please explain what RACE pronounces the word ‘nuclear’ as ‘nucular’.
Look at McCains use of hands.
He is not physically unable to use a computer. He’s just stupid.
This is a thoughtful answer from McCain!
McCain really does know the angers America faces.
Obama agrees with him. As he should.
Of course we did get to see that seal only once. And someone told him having his own seal wasn’t wise. Darn!

““The average South Korean is three inches taller than the average North Korean.”
What the hell?!”
————————
For the uneducated and BlueJay, one of the reasons for countries with shorter stature is nutrition. What McCain implied and it is true, is that North Korean keeps their people on a starvation diet. Thus, the children will not grow as intended as the bone growth cannot keep up with other tissue growth because of a poor diet.
The South Koreans have an excellent diet and their children grow into adults on average, three inches taller.
If I had hit the “d” tha word would have been dangers — as I intended. ;-)
Pred it has not basis in race but BJ said it did. I just wondered what he was talking about when he called me a rascist. Glad to see it didn’t make sense to you either.
Oh oh he has a plan!!
Drilling?
Yeah let’s drill deeper into the hole we are already in?
Pursed lips. Bad
Well BJ glad to see you now think we should drill. See this debate has been good for you.
To think I turned down an invite ot Emerson Biggins West to watch this debate with other republicans. I bet it wouldn’t have been nearly as much fun as I have had with you guys.
Once again, Obama tells us what we need now and for the future. McCain only had the past to speak of.
Drilling will accomplish nothing but putting off the change that is needed.
We made that mistake 30 years ago. We must not make it again. I’m not sending my kid off to fight for oil to fuel some rich guys Hummer.
So you weren’t serious when you said to drill. What a disappointment.
McCain has criticism; Obama has vision for our tomorrows.
The Dubya debates were more fun.
“I got wood!”
Drilling accomplishes nothing but putting off solutions.
Obama sees where we need to go; McCain wants to start his own personal war or two or more.
Serious comment: Obama with that snarky grin just showed his weakness in foreign policy.
Every time Oboma speaks McCain acts as a child. His whole demeanor is childish. The cameras should have been focused on McCain! He is his own undoing.
That is a side of him he doesn’t want to show often. It isn’t good. McCain is very convincing with his concern about veterans because he walks his talk.
I’m watching Linda, still watching, still watching, I can’t see this. He looks very sincere and persuasive to me. Leadership qualities.
The “when I came home from prison” card.
It took a long time to pull that one out.
A President needs flexibility, for without it, he/she can’t flip-flop!
A President needs flexibility so he can use the keyboard on a computer.
So, on to next Thursday when we view and listen to the one and only VP debate.
Well, we certainly saw who could remain calm and keep his demeanor – that was McCain.
Obama got exasperated several times.
VPs are next I can hardly wait. See you all then although I might have to go to Emerson Biggins. You all can join us if you like. We aren’t prejuidiced against libs.
Perhaps you missed when McCain was laughing about the plight of the poor okobserver?
Oh that’s right. You make your living off the work of the poor.
I know more about you since my lunch.
Good call Reg. McCain handled himself like a real leaker.
Pred why is it so important to you that McCain use a computer. He can hire a secretary to do that for him if need be. I doubt is that is something that presidents do on a regular basis.
I am glad the grumpy old man is finished. He needs some sleep. Obama can celebrate his victory while the old coot gets some rest.
Bluejay if you weren’t so pathetic I might get my feelings hurt. You know nothing about me. Please tell me again why I am rascist.
He was kinda leaky. lol
Fascinating debate. Both were very well versed, knew their subjects, and projected them well. I really can’t say one won over the other. If Americans were in doubt about the quality of the two candidates, this debate should alleviate that. Well done to both.
Let us not forget! McCain has already run an ad that says he won the debate! It ran this morning!
They say losing political candidates usually go back to the job they are most qualified for.
Link: http://zenspoliticalrants.blogspot.com/2008/09/obama-gives-mean-shoe-shine.html
Actually Linda us old folks require less sleep than you youngsters. But that ok. I know you didn’t mean anything critical with what you said did you. It did saound a curlish.
Oh no Juan Williams just commented on Obamas smirks and frequent no, no and not true, not true.
That’s the kind of organization one could expect from a McCain administration. And ad runs yesterday that tells you what happened today.
It was a ho hum debate, there were probably were few minds changed or influenced.
That’s how I saw it.
JM I would have to agree with you. I saw weaknesses in both candidates. I doubt that this debate will change anyones mind about who to vote for. The undecided are probably still undecided.
Oh I can hardly wait for the VP debate myself!
Poor lil Sarah will likely run weeping from the stage.
Heh.
Okobserver? Isn’t it true that you run a janitorial company?
Bluejay,
You mean if Palin is still around to participate in the debate. It will be another interesting week.

Why do you ask Junior?
Looking to increase your income from your self-imposed poverty?
When McCain talked about taking care of the vets, I was surprised that Obama did not bring up the fact that John and Bush were not for the latest G.I. Bill that was passed last June. In fact he did not even show up to vote against it!
That,to me, is not taking care of those that serve our country!
I don’t know, after listening to Obama studder, put in all those “uh…ah…pause…word or two…uh…ah…pause.
He’ll have a bright future I’m sure if he just sets his sights lower.
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_l3SGJT0c5O4/SNkKNDBsUqI/AAAAAAAAAIY/-tAjPgNhUjk/s1600-h/shoeshine.jpg
I think you’re wrong on that, BlueJay, She won’t run; she will stick around to be even more ill-informed, ill-prepared, and give Americans more of what she isn’t and what she is.
Did you watch her interview whit Katie Couric?
One thing that did strike with me was McCain talking about the business climate we make here by raising corporate taxes. With the globe getting as small as it is we have to attract businesses not run them away. Intel has their largest microchip fab in Ireland. Just this week Hanes announced they were moving their headquarters to Asis. This company employs 8000. We have to have someone with the vision to see this and address it.
That,to me, is not taking care of those that serve our country!
I was thinking the same thing. When one votes with Bush 90-95% of the time, how does that make one a maverick?
“Looking to increase your income from your self-imposed poverty?”
Unlike you James, I am not on welfare.
Totally off topic, but has anyone heard from writerdog lately? I haven’t seen him posting for a few days.
Only because you can’t qualify and its much more fun for you to whine and moan about being poor.
BJ you are really funny. Do you remember me saying we don’t employ anyone that can’t fill out an I-9? How many janitorial services do you know that doesn’t hire illegals?
You happy libs really should invite someone with better sources to the next ‘power lunch’.
Lets just say that what my company does you would be able to do. Not qualified enough.

Right,he is the blog’s comedic relief
Pre, I had an email from dog this week. I’ll send it along to you!
Thanks, Linda!
The latest Veteran bill was a mish mash of ignorant libs ideas. Making a new GI bill when we already have a very good one. This is the kind of thing that made it not a good bill.
Thank you for confirming that my first info is accurate okie.
I don’t know what outsourcing would have to do with a janitorial service.
“How many janitorial services do you know that doesn’t hire illegals?”
I don’t know. But my understanding is YOU use work release inmates?
Well pretty hard for THOSE folks to stand up to you. You just threaten to send them back to jail?
I thought that was hilarious when Obama whipped out his own bracelet! Heard mccain throw in a couple of his campaign speech lines in the mix.
Obama held his own is Mccain’s strong suit. Mccain’s in trouble in his weaker suits.
Almost laughed when he threw in the POW, stuff at the end.
If the G.I. Bill was so bad, why didn’t McCain come back to Washington and show his contempt for it?
Bush even gave him credit for its passing!
Ah there goes Junior, when he can’t tell lies, he attacks other posters.
Typical from the feminine looking, spitting and spraying Junior.
And this was supposed to be McCain’s strong point. I am an independent, and I believe Obama dominated. McCain scares me, and he should scare everyone. His idea of American power is only military might, and his ideas would lead to perpetual war. Terrorism is a tactic, and as long as there are people who don’t like us, who are willing to use that tactic, military might will never defeat it. Iraq is not the central front on the war on terror!!!!!!!! There may be 5000 foreign fighters(terrorists) in IRaq to fight us, but if we left, the millions of Iraqi citizens are more than a match for the foreign fighters. Do you think the Iraqis want to see their kids blown up??? NO! It is another lie by this administration to keep us there for oil.
BJ is jealous of any one that is successful
I’m just asking questions of a poster (okobserver) who makes a habit of attacking me when I am not even around.
“Freebird” do you have a reason to post here other than that I do?
BJ you are so hung up on my life and livelyhood that it is a little spooky. You need to get a life of your own. Stop telling your little ’story’ that are too ridiculous to be true. No I have nothing to do with janitorial services. Better get a better source as I said earlier. Should I be flattered that I am the subject of your little ‘power lunches’? What would you guys talk about if you didn’t have the cons on the blog as your entertainment. Oh yes you could laugh at POWs.
Bluejay has a point there, Freebird. Share your opinions. Try not to include your opinions of other posters. What do you think of tonight’s debate?
Freebird I am glad you post here. Somedays we need people with a sense of humor. BJ we hire work release people because we think everyone deserves a second chance. We hire them and give them a chance to improve their lifes. Most of them do well. Some don’t. The ones that do well are thankful they are able to build their lifes back.
Sorry your pathetic little mind can’t get your head around the concept. I learned long ago that you are to be pitied. But I pity your son even more.
It was a pretty good debate. McCain was able to show that he is not old and doddering as portrayed by the left. He stayed on offense. Obama did fine and was more gracious.
But, again, debates are overrated.
Nothing was said in the debate that would make me vote for either one of them. I’m going third party or not voting at all. With Obama we will be taxed to death and with Mcain it will be 4 more years of Bush.
BJ didnt know I needed your permission.

Linda is this what you meant about not including your opinions of other posters?
BJ what does outsourcing have to do with anything?
Obama missed a golden opportunity when he didn’t pounce on the “I save the taxpayer 6.5 bil. when boeing didn’t get the contract” the obvious comeback would’ve been, you might have save 6.5 bil. upfront, but lost 20 bil. over the life of the contract, and outsourced one of the military’s biggest contract of decades.
“BJ you are so hung up on my life and livelyhood that it is a little spooky.”
Hardly. But you make a habit of naming me, even on threads where I am not posting. I’m hit, I hit back.
“BJ you are really funny. Do you remember me saying we don’t employ anyone that can’t fill out an I-9? How many janitorial services do you know that doesn’t hire illegals?”
Well THAT would seem at odds with…
“No I have nothing to do with janitorial services.”
Now wouldn’t it?
You’re right about the Al-Quida boogeyman taking over and setting up bases in Iraq. Hell, they won’t even let us stay there as long as John M. would like, and they’re going to roll over for Al-Quida?
Al-Quida was there because the Sunnis let them because the wanted their help, al-quida overplayed their hand and wore out their welcome.
The may be invited back, if the shiite don’t share wealth and power, which looks to be the case.
McCain was also able to show the value of his vast foreign policy experience.
Tonight was beautiful. It proved what I’ve been screaming for months, There is no major difference between the two parties.
Barack wants out of Iraq, great, but then what? Ohh…move the troops to another country!?!?!?!?
Where is the voice that says we don’t need to be policing the world? Where is the voice that is against the war of aggression?
Barack talked about funding for Iraq and how it was out of control. THen he proceeded to tell us that he’d move troops to Afghanistan. What?!?!?
Way to shoot yourself in the foot Barry.
McCain is just a huge sock puppet for the elites. It shows in his answers.
I’m voting third party along with many other I know.
For those of you who lean left, check out Cynthia McKinney or Ralph Nadar.
For those who lean right, check out Chuck Baldwin or Bob Barr.
The Republicans and Democrats have offered up more of the same this time. Let’s make them pay for their stupidity.
“Linda is this what you meant about not including your opinions of other posters?”
I did not offer an opinion. Yet.
I asked a question.
“I’m voting third party along with many other I know.
For those of you who lean left, check out Cynthia McKinney or Ralph Nadar.”
Well that was where I was at Austrian. The deal breaker was Sarah Palin.
SHE must NOT be a heart attack away and second to a guy who looked early in the debate like he was going to HAVE a heart attack.
Heh, I’ve noticed that too, BlueJay.
Freebird wants to be your boyfriend or something.
No wonder he drinks . . .
*****
The thing to remember about the debates: it’s all about the mushy middle. Savvy political junkies like me already support Obama and the stupid idiots support the party of stupid idiots.
So . . . that just leaves those 15-18 percent who can’t stop shopping and talking on their cell phone to learn about the candidates.
They don’t want the red meat that the base wants.
From their point of view, they heard McCain talking about reaching across the aisle, but they saw Obama acting much more conciliatory and gentlemanly toward Grandpa.
Obama did okay. And McCain did okay.
Not much more I can say…
The truth will out okobserver. Count on it.
Now, it seems you feel SOME pride in the truth of how it is you make your living.
But the doublespeak, it makes me wonder…
Another missed opportunity by obama was not bitch slapping mccain with his running mates pork, mccain probably would have come back with ‘quit calling palin a pig!”
Don’t many retirees are going to warm to a spending freeze either.
Don’t think…
Mr. Austrian–
The guy who offers bromides, and smug potshots from the sideines:
Let’s hear your plan.
I’ll wait.
Mccain did confess with meeting with house repubs., we all know what happened there.
P.S. I haven’t ruled out a third party vote (done it twice at the national level).
I juat don’t believe in agin’er thinking. I believe in doing something>

C’mon BlueJay. I have spoken with you and although we disagree on some issues, I know you are a logical person.
I realize the reality of the situation, but I cannot just get past how illogical the argument that a vote for a third party candidate is a vote for one of the two major party candidates.
What happened to voting your concious and voting for the best person? The two-party system is a sham, and you enable it by voting for one of the two no matter what the consequences might be.
Screw them pricks and vote for one of the 6 candidates that best fits your values and beliefs.
Remember what I told you about Carol Quigley? Bill Clinton got a lot of his philosophy and ideas from him. That says a lot.
Who is going to finance the current war or next war? I do believe the ferniners are reluctant to buy anymore of our mortgages.
8 = # of times Obama said “Senator McCain is absolutely right.”
6 = # of times McCain said “Senator Obama doesn’t understand.”
’nuff said.

C’mon Rage. I’ve given my solutions. They are so simple that most laugh at them anyway.
Return to sound currency.
Abolish Federal Reserve.
Stop policing the world.
Bring home troops from all 130 countries that we occupy.
These are simple, but powerful ways to fix the messes our government is now trying to fix.
Your full of it to to tell me that I sit on the sidelines and take shots at people. I am cordial and offer my opinion. I never tell anyone to shutup or call people names.
I still hope you check out the third party candidates too.
It is not smug to have been right and predicted this economic crisis. I was only trying to get credability so that more people would listen to my ideas. I never chastised those for not listening.

Who is going to finance the current war or next war? I do believe the ferniners are reluctant to buy anymore of our mortgages.

I didn’t like that smirk Obama just gave. And why does he say Taliban like it is something on a French dessert buffet?
Okie-dokie – you didn’t like Obama’s smirk but you love McCain’s evil grin? And I noticed McCain pronounced Taliban the exact same way Obama did. Again, is McCain talking about a French dessert buffet?
The sides were chosen long ago; there will be no mercy.
I worry about newer posters that tell me “C’mon”.
I’m originally from the right “Austrian” and I could be back there again.
If only the American dream were available to all and not just those who will play the game.
I don’t see that happening while cons have any power. Voting third party is useless in addressing that.

8 = # of times Obama said “Senator McCain is absolutely right.”
6 = # of times McCain said “Senator Obama doesn’t understand
Like Obama said – they do agree on the issues but not the approach they would take to resolve those issues. Or is it too hard for you to understand the difference?
McCain treated Obama like he is incapable of understanding – quite the condescending tone to take with anyone. It made McCain look like an old fool that thinks he has all the answers just because he has lived longer.
McCain also told that touching story about Eisenhower’s two letters – trouble is, it was reported that the story was false. Is McCain lying again?
One uncommitted voter that was asked after the debate what he thought and he said that it reminded him of the Nixon and Kennedy debate. McCain looked like Nixon – stiff and sweating. Not a good sign for the maverick.
“The sides were chosen long ago; there will be no mercy.”
What I have come to expect from the cons. They may expect the same from me.
I was hoping Obama would bring up Palin’s use of lobbyists to get record breaking pork barrrel money when McCain was promising to veto every pork barrel project and make their names famous.
Too bad McCain can’t look behind him and spot the worst offender of all – his own running mate.
I liked the response how serious can you be taken when you sing bomb bomb bomb Iran, or I’d wipe N.K. off the map, when your talking about being prudent?
You are so right, BlueJay! we who are more progressive aren’t as good at the lack of mercy. We’ve always been kinder and gentler. I hope you of the younger generations can do a better job.

Sorry BlueJay. I used to be “Objectivist” and changed my name. I announced it a few weeks ago so that I would not confuse people.
I just didn’t believe everything Ayn Rand believed, but I do believe some of it.
Anyway, No conservative has any power right now. They are Neo-Cons and they have influenced real conservatives with their delusions.
I don’t look at it from a left and right view. I look at it from a big government vs small goverment view.
Both parties want big government. The only way to fix the issues you address is to shrink the size and scope of government.
I am well known as in long time opposition to Obama.
I STILL do not have his sign in my yard.
I wish there was a sign No way, No how, No McCain, No Palin.
I call the debate a draw. I did see several times when Obama could have been meaner and knocked McCain out.
But let’s make no mistake. The cons don’t want McCain. They never did.
They are hoping, and this is kinda sick, that McCain will win and then die.
Tonight we compared experience. And Obama did well against a battle hardened politician.
Next week, lil Sarah takes the stage against Joe Biden AND Obama.
Maybe that was a strategy,(or is it tactic) for obama, not to look like he was beating up on the Geriatric. We know how that worked for Gore who thoroughly trounced the village idiot and still ‘lost’ the debate. The sympathy factor.
Yeah, Palin is just as delusional as Woodrow Wilson and his 14 points.
Sadly, these people really believe what they say. It is engrained in their souls. Don’t worry BlueJay. Obama will probably win.
Palin talking about “God’s will” made me see her for the loon that she is.
You’d be surprised at how many idiots fall for that crap though.
You will not like hearing this Austrian.
Government is….good.
When it does it’s job.
The problem is that business and money have infiltrated government and corrupted it.
Return to sound currency.
Abolish Federal Reserve.
Stop policing the world.
Bring home troops from all 130 countries that we occupy.
And, you really, seriously, believe that this collection of policies will get us out of the mess we are in, right now? For real?
Okay. Let’s leave aside the silliness of returning to the gold standard. Let’s say it’s a wonderful idea.
Bringing the troops home. Fine idea. All at once? Care to discuss that with those 130 countries first? Yeah, some of them will like that–I’d like see us clear out of Saudi Arabia (heh! seriously, I would–but what a battle!). The other commitments (some of which are tangled up in NATO treaties) might be a big dicey–and how much of military budget do really think our workaday prescence in, say, Germany is? (news flash: not much).
“Abolish Federal Reserve.” Well, how cute. The devil is the details. Eliminate the federal reserve, fine, I don’t like it either, but who takes over the reins? Are you naive enough to believe, after all we’ve seen, that the banking industry will even act in its own interest, let alone the country’s? I think the Voorhis proposal during the New Deal made more sense.
“Stop policing the world.” Hey, amen to that. Liberals and Libertarians have agreed on that one for some time now. But, what, do we realistically do, having already imposed our power into numerous world situations? Sorry, but “up yours, we don’t care!” is what allowed Afghanistan to descend into the factions we see today.
You see, Mr. Austrian, that stuff, as far as extremely general principles, is okay, but it’s precisely what I’m talking about: fuc*king general, vague, unthinking bromides. Complexity, uncertainty, ambiguity? That’s verboten!
Aren’t you tired of that kind of thinking? Maybe not. Or are you really so blind as to believe that laundry list of actions you produced, by itself, will fix things? How?? If you’re really that certain, you should be able to do detail.
And I would remind you are far from the only one who predicted this mess. I suppose y\You could check my posts in this blog going back to 2005, but honestly, I was predicting this crap, oh, twenty years ago. Obviously, I had no idea the American people would be stupid enough to vote for the same damn thing in less than 20 years–that was my failure of insight.
McCain was clearly in Command of the debate. You can tell his experience out-trumped Obama, who fumbled most of the debate. Obama was on defense most of the time and McCain was strong and resolute. That is leadership quality. If you agree or disagree with McCain’s points or are and not going to vote for him, McCain clearly won the debate.
That is an unbiased view. Those who are siding with Obama and slinging the insults on McCain, won’t be able to bring themselves to admit that McCain (even though they really know) was in command of this 1st debate.
Maybe Obama will do better next time. I think Obama just needs to get over his nervousness a little and he can do much better.
Joe, shut up. No one cares what you think.
About anything.
I don’t mind government BlueJay. I like small government, but government nonetheless.
Business and money have infiltrated. They have helped to grow the size and scope of government.
Just look at Sugar tariffs and High Fructose Corn Syrup for a mundane but important example.
I have been blowing up the capitol switchboard telling them to oppose this bailout, or By God I would fight to get them ousted.
The recession wil be sharp and painful, but it will be quick. If they pass this Facist bill, they prolong and worsen the inevitable. A Greater Depression if you will.
Apparently nobody cares about you Rage, including your ex-wife.
So I suggest you shut up and lick my boots while you’re at it.
Well, Mr. Goo, all I can say is that there is a time when I defended you. And you know it.
That’s so over.
Well, Mr. Rage! Good luck. I could care less.
ict?
HI Joe Williams!
I always knew that while you had a good heart, your brain was on vacation.
How ARE those twins that you were expecting? Do you even get to see them?
Or does your ex have a restraining order against ya?
Austrian?
“J”ust look at Sugar tariffs”
Oh and here is where I think you and I will disagree.
American labor and agriculture MUST be protected against the “free markes” that forces Americans to compete with slave nations.
Rage,
It appears that you and I agree on most principles. Why argue with some one who knows the score and will be with you in the trenches with you when the time comes.
Obviously, I believe in sound money. Gold doesn’t have to be the commodity though. A basket of commodities would be good too.
Bringing the troops home. I would slowly bring them home and gift the bases to the countries we were in. Even if it is cheap to have a presence in Germany, why do we need one? Germany is not a threat. It is just a way to protect our empire.
The reins of the Fed get handed over to congress just like the COnstitution says. It is not difficult. Elected representative may have to learn a little about money and credit. Maybe even business cycles. This is not hard. If they don’t want to, they get voted out and replaced.
America’s presence in the Middle East over the last half century has built an illicited hatred to us. We need to quit meddling in other countries affairs. See Operation Ajax for example.
The UN, NATO, NAFTA, WTO, out of them all. No entangling alliances with other countries. The fore fathers knew of the danger. They saw what happened in the past with them.
I find it hard to believe that you’d get on to me for being vague and general. I just didn’t want to go into great detail. The ideas are right, you just seem to need to know what happens every day during the plan.
You spend a lot of time criticizing my ideas, but you tap dance for some of the real idots on these boards. How illogical is that. You and I at least have a firm grasp on reality. Most of these people live in a world created by the idiot box and other personalities.
Truce man.

God forbid we actually have innovation and find a way to produce cheaper.
Labor is not the only way to cut cost BlueJay. You can beat slave labor by making something that cost less to produce. It has happened all throughout history.
While I agree with your point, you need to finish the circle and see that there are other factors that go into price. Not just labor.
Reinvesting profits into R&D is something this nation is awful at. The Fed could learn a lot from Koch Industries.
Koch Industries?
My sister in law worked there.
From what she has told me, I would not wish that on anyone.
Producing cheaper = “productivity” = fewer people working longer hours to make up for those fired.
The attitude in this country is upside down. Work is not respected, it is exploited.
Let Koch get by on the same as he pays his workers. Then come on back.
Joe–you pissed more than one person off fairly recently, more than the immmediate target. You crossed the line. You should know that.
But it’s a damn blog–no, the comments section on a damn blog. In the greater scheme of things, it’s nothing.
But ya know, some restraint, well, ain’t a bad idea.
It’s a lesson we all could use.
Truce man.
Deal!

BlueJay. Your sister in law probably doesn’t understand free market thinking like Charles Koch.
You don’t get a raise for seniority, you don’t special perks for showing up.
You actually have to produce and add value. You must always be learning. You cannot rest on your laurels. That is the kind of thinking I respect.
Koch runs his company. He should get more fruits for his labor. He at least teaches you how to be an entrepreneur and grow yourself to start your own company someday.
Most people just want to go to work and not grow. They just want to do the same job and not be bothered. Fine, go work in aircraft. They have that down to a T.
So labor is the only way to produce cheaper? You can’t find a stronger cheaper material to make your product for example? You can’t reduce marketing expenses in order to save consumers money?
Your logic is flawed. Labor is a part of price, but not the only part. It is good that you fight for this cause. It needs to be addressed, but it is not the only reason for higher production.
Something I note as I see the debate for the second time.
McCain NEVER looked at Obama. Not once looking and seeking his opponent’s eyes.
Obama frequently looked for McCain’s eyes.
This speaks to genuine engagement.
In my purposefully limited contact with cons, I have found this a constant. They will shake your hand while they look past you as if you do not matter.
Because to them? You don’t.
BlueJay. Your sister in law probably doesn’t understand free market thinking like Charles Koch.
Okay. . .how does Charles Koch understand free market thinking, other than being one of the rich heir of the Koch family?
I drank beer with Mary Koch, but that didn’t make me an economics expert.
I see people Austrian.
I do not see human resources.
I also do not care much as to the bottom line or getting rich.
YOUR sort, and Koch’s sort of thinking is what is destroying this country.

Ever read his book, “The Science of Success”. The whole book is a tribute to free market theory and how to apply it in an discrete way.
The sources in the back and the definitions are amazing. He has been studying Mises, Hayek, and Rothbard for a long time. It shows in his book too.
If we ever met somewhere, I’d bring you the book. It is pretty good. It only took a couple days to read.

Horsesh*t. Free market thinking built this country. Socialism and centrally controlled economies are destroying this country.
Let the corps outsource the labor, we can find cheaper ways to compete. To forget the “bottom line” is contradictory to what you’ve been telling me.
By the way, Koch is actually one of the good guys when it comes to business. Read his book and see what I mean.
Good night all
Sigh. . AE, yeah, Ludwig von Mises, Fred Hayek, etc. Yeah, whatever.
I like abstractions, but I live in reality.
So you’re telling me this guy who had it made his whole life is this source of awesome economic theory?
Okay. That’s certainly not impossible.
This guy has a couple of master’s degrees–in engineering. Not bad. He’s also worked for the family business his whole life. And been fabulously wealthy his whole life.
Sound familiar?
No, I won’t reject his ideas out of hand. But if you’re going to throw out some names–Von Mises etc.–like that makes this nobody’s book worth my attention, sorry, think again.
Did it get decent reviews? Pudding, AE, pudding.
I will not demean you Austrian.
I was young and ……..under informed as you are once.
“Horsesh*t. Free market thinking built this country. ”
Yeah back when everyone had a government given farm that their neighbors helped them improve. How free market was that?
It took a village to build this country. I know. My ancestors go back to the 1600’s here.
I have to go, but I see in you Austrian, a reflection of myself from long ago.
Don’t you see? The opportunity for success must be for everyone and NOT dependent on serving or pleasing others. We have to defend that right for each and all of us , not scrabble to climb over others on our track to it. There is no freedom in rushing to be a slave.
Every time McCain said: “Obama doesnt understand” brought back to memory Ronald Reagan saying: “Well…. there you go again!”
I think Jim Lehrer won the debate…
Obama tried to talk to JIM Lehrer, and JOHN McCain kept butting in… That’s why he kept bouncing back and forth between Jim and John… NOT because he couldnt remember McCain’s name…
But, alas, I can see already that Granny will use that as a talking point come Monday… ROFL…. how SAD that is!!!
Austrian,
BlueJay resents and even hates anyone who he feels has worked they way to a better financial place than he, or who stands on a higher moral ground.
Yet he steadfastly refuses to change and work himself to where he wants others to take him and instead wants the force of government, and the gun, to steal it from you to give to him in the slanderous name of equal treatment.
Thanks box. That was….incoherent.
Obama LIED when he blamed Bush for the 700 billion dollar (count them) bailout for big business. This is just further proof that 1) He cannot be trusted 2) he doesn’t know history, and is doomed to repeat it. or 3) He knows the truth, that both sides caused this mess and his chums at ACORN contributed to it – but he lies to cover it up.
“Community Reinvestment Act of 1977, a Carter-era law that purported to prevent “redlining” – denying mortgages to black borrowers – by pressuring banks to make home loans in “low- and moderate-income neighborhoods.” Under the act, banks were to be graded on their attentiveness to the “credit needs” of “predominantly minority neighborhoods.” The higher a bank’s rating, the more likely that regulators would say yes when the bank sought to open a new branch or undertake a merger or acquisition.
1995: The Clinton Administration’s regulatory revisions with an effective starting date of January 31, 1995 were credited with substantially increasing the number and aggregate amount of loans to small businesses and to low- and moderate-income borrowers for home loans. Part of the increase in home loans was due to increased efficiency and the genesis of lenders, like Countrywide, that do not mitigate loan risk with savings deposits as do traditional banks using the new subprime authorization. This is known as the secondary market for mortgage loans.
2003: the Bush Administration recommended what the NY Times called “the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago.” This change was to move governmental supervision of two of the primary agents guaranteeing subprime loans, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac under a new agency created within the Department of the Treasury. However, it did not alter the implicit guarantee that Washington will bail the companies out if they run into financial difficulty; that perception enabled them to issue debt at significantly lower rates than their competitors. The changes were generally opposed along Party lines and eventually failed to happen. Representative Barney Frank(D-MA) claimed of the thrifts “These two entities — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — are not facing any kind of financial crisis, the more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.” Representative Mel Watt (D-NC) added “I don’t see much other than a shell game going on here, moving something from one agency to another and in the process weakening the bargaining power of poorer families and their ability to get affordable housing.”
‘’These two entities — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — are not facing any kind of financial crisis,’’ said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ‘’The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.’’
Obama is a liar. How can you vote for a liar?
McCain is a a CRAZY liar.
Why did he keep referencing Miss Congeniality, the debate was about him, not his better looking half.
ict check the polls I referenced in the palin thread, Obama clearly won the debate.
