Anthony Watts’ site is not a reliable source for data analysis.

On the contrary, Watts’ site is a reliable site that will even admit when it makes a mistake. He is very interested in standards and reaching the truth.

So you read these 2 links, and you <i>still</i> trust Watts' data analysis?

Watts has been visiting the various NOAA reporting stations finding some pretty incredible conditions that would make the data unreliable.

Speaking of reliable sourcing Cosmos, I will remind you of your providing us links to dailykos and huffingtonpost. Seems reliability has little to do with your sourcing choices.

I know you wont bother with an apology.... HOWEVER, I do think you might have lost what remnant of credibility you MIGHT have had on this Blog.... I suggest you think TWICE before you come attacking me again, A$$HOLE!!!!

Republicans, like mult-nic'd "Kansas Values"(sic) Regular, DO NOT CARE if their VP candidate uses LIES to advocate (very flawed) policies.

WHY is that. . .?
WHY are Republicans unable to advocate their policies with facts?

"(e) Special Areas-

(1) DESIGNATION-

(A) IN GENERAL- The Secretary, after consultation with the State of Alaska, the North Slope Borough, Alaska, and the City of Kaktovik, Alaska, may designate <b>not more than 45,000 acres</b> of the Coastal Plain as a special area if the Secretary determines that the special area would be of such unique character and interest as to require special management and regulatory protection.
...

SEC. 4. LEASE SALES.
(d) Acreage Minimum in First Sale- For the first lease sale under this Act, the Secretary shall offer for lease those tracts the Secretary considers to have the greatest potential for the discovery of hydrocarbons, taking into consideration nominations received pursuant to subsection (b)(1), but in no case less than <b>200,000 acres</b>.
...

SEC. 7. COASTAL PLAIN ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION.
(3) ensure that the <b>maximum surface acreage covered</b> in connection with the leasing program by <b>production and support facilities</b>, including airstrips and any areas covered by gravel berms or piers for support of pipelines, does not exceed <b>2,000 acres</b> on the Coastal Plain."
------

Gravel roads and gravel mines are not included in the "maximum surface acreage covered".

http://arctic.fws.gov/issues1.htm#section4
"According to the U.S. Geological Survey, possible oil reserves may be located in many small accumulations in complex geological formations, rather than in one giant field as was discovered at Prudhoe Bay. Consequently, development in the 1002 Area could likely require a <b>large number of small production sites spread across the Refuge landscape, connected by an infrastructure of roads, pipelines, power plants, processing facilities, loading docks, dormitories, airstrips, gravel pits, utility lines and landfills.</b>"

FBI Investigating Potential Fraud by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Lehman, AIG

WASHINGTON — The FBI is investigating four major U.S. financial institutions whose collapse helped trigger a $700 billion bailout plan by the Bush administration, The Associated Press has learned.

Two law enforcement officials said Tuesday the FBI is looking at potential fraud by mortgage finance giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and insurer American International Group Inc. Additionally, a senior law enforcement official said Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. also is under investigation.

The inquiries will focus on the financial institutions and the individuals that ran them, the senior law enforcement official said.

The law enforcement officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigations are ongoing and are in the very early stages.

Officials said the new inquiries bring to 26 the number of corporate lenders under investigation over the past year.

Spokesmen for AIG, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac did not immediately return calls for comment Tuesday evening. A Lehman spokesman did not have an immediate comment.

Just last week, FBI Director Robert Mueller put the number of large financial firms under investigation at 24. He did not name any of the companies under investigation but said the FBI also was looking at whether any of them have misrepresented their assets.

Over the past year as the housing market cratered, the FBI has opened a wide-ranging probe of companies across the financial services industry, from mortgage lenders to investment banks that bundle home loans into securities sold to investors. Mueller has previously said the FBI's hunt for culprits in the nation's subprime mortgage crisis focused on accounting fraud, insider trading, and failure to disclose the value of mortgage-related securities and other investments.

The investigations revealed Tuesday come as lawmakers began considering whether to approve emergency legislation that would give the government broad power to buy up devalued assets from troubled financial firms.

The bailout proposed by the Bush administration is aimed at helping unlock credit and stabilize badly shaken markets in the United States and around the globe.

In the past two weeks, the government has taken over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the country's two biggest mortgage companies, with a bailout plan that could require the Treasury Department to put up as much as $100 billion for each of them over time if needed to keep them afloat as mortgage losses mount.

Last week, the Federal Reserve provided an emergency $85 billion loan to AIG, which teetered on the brink of bankruptcy. Lehman Brothers was forced to file for bankruptcy after attempts to engineer a private rescue fell apart. All the companies were laid low from bad bets on complex mortgage-related securities.

Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke made the joint decision last week that the only way to stop the carnage was to deal with the root cause of all the troubles, billions of dollars of bad mortgage debt sitting on the books of major financial companies. This debt has triggered the worst credit crisis in decades, causing credit markets to essentially freeze up despite the fact that the Fed joined with major central banks around the world to pump billions of dollars of reserves into the financial system.

Additionally, the FBI is investigating failed bank IndyMac Bancorp Inc. for possible fraud. Countrywide Financial Corp., formerly the nation's largest mortgage lender and now owned by Bank of America Corp., is also under scrutiny.

With America facing historic debt, multiple war fronts, stumbling health care, a weakened dollar, all-time high prison population, skyrocketing Federal spending, mortgage crises, bank foreclosures, etc. etc., this is an unusually critical election year.

Let's look at the educational background of the candidates and see what they bring to the job:

Obama:

Occidental College - Two years.

Columbia University - B.A. political science with a specialization in international relations.

Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude

Biden:

University of Delaware - B.A. in history and

B.A. in political science.

Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.)

vs.

McCain:

United States Naval Academy - Class rank 894 out of 899!! Meaning that, like George Bush, McCain was at the bottom of his class!!!

Palin:

Hawaii Pacific University - 1 semester

North Idaho College - 2 semesters - general study

University of Idaho - 2 semesters - journalism

Matanuska-Susitna College - 1 semester

University of Idaho - 3 semesters - B.A. in journalism

outlander,

Anthony Watts' site is not a reliable source for data analysis.

For example, Watts directly compared anomaly data sets that use DIFFERENT reference periods, WITHOUT adjusting for the differences.

'What’s Up With That?'

And BJ/JR you also pointed out that you had your own Downs baby sucked out of the woman you knocked up, and went so far as to indicate the reason for that was your lack of commitment.

Sounds like a perfectly fine reason to commit murder to me. Your probably should have considered that with your son too. Had his skull smashed because you lack commitment. But it is the woman’s choice - not yours.

I assume the woman agreed, personally I don't agree with their choice but it was their's to make and their business, not yours or anybody elses

And another bad report on Arctic ice coverage:

“It’s definitely a bad report. We did pick up little bit from last year, but this is over 30 percent below what used to be normal,” said Walt Meier, a research scientist with the National Snow and Ice Data Center in Boulder, Colorado.”

“”It is the second lowest on record. … If anything, it is reinforcing the long-term trend. ”

“Less than 30 years ago, there would still be 7 million square kilometers or 2.5 million square miles of ice left at the end of an Arctic summer. That’s now dropped by almost 40 percent.”

You are putting your own prejudice on the personal story of other human beings.

Joke:

A biker is riding by the zoo, when he sees a little girl leaning into the lion's cage.

Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the cuff of her jacket and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her, under the eyes of her screaming parents.

The biker jumps off his bike, runs to the cage and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch.

Whimpering from the pain the lion jumps back letting go of the girl, and the biker brings her to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly

A New York Times reporter has watched the whole event. The reporter says, 'Sir, this was the most gallant and brave thing I saw a man do in my whole life.'

The biker replies, 'Why, it was nothing, really, the lion was behind bars. I just saw this little kid in danger, and acted as I felt right.'

The reporter says, 'Well, I'm a journalist from the New York Times, and tomorrow's paper will have this story on the front page... So, what do you do for a living and what political affiliation do you have? '

The biker replies, 'I'm a U.S. Marine and a Republican.'

The following morning the biker buys The New York Times to see if it indeed brings news of his actions, and reads, on front page:

U.S. MARINE ASSAULTS AFRICAN IMMIGRANT
AND STEALS HIS LUNCH

Sounds like a perfectly fine reason to commit murder to me. Your probably should have considered that with your son too. Had his skull smashed because you lack commitment. But it is the woman's choice - not yours.

I love the stance that she believes raped women must carry the rapist's child to term. Even if death of the mother is likely or even certain, no abortion should be permitted.

AHHH, no wonder she is not allowed to talk to the press...

... the people might learn something about her radical beliefs....
