How the Democrats Created the Financial Crisis: Kevin Hassett
(get over it Dems, your side refused legislations that would have prevented this)
snip
The economic history books will describe this episode in simple and understandable terms: Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac exploded, and many bystanders were injured in the blast, some fatally.
Fannie and Freddie did this by becoming a key enabler of the mortgage crisis. They fueled Wall Street’s efforts to securitize subprime loans by becoming the primary customer of all AAA-rated subprime-mortgage pools. In addition, they held an enormous portfolio of mortgages themselves.
snip
The problem was that the trillions of dollars in play were only low-risk investments if real estate prices continued to rise. Once they began to fall, the entire house of cards came down with them. Take away Fannie and Freddie, or regulate them more wisely, and it’s hard to imagine how these highly liquid markets would ever have emerged. This whole mess would never have happened.
snip
What happened next was extraordinary. For the first time in history, a serious Fannie and Freddie reform bill was passed by the Senate Banking Committee. The bill gave a regulator power to crack down, and would have required the companies to eliminate their investments in risky assets.
snip
But the bill didn’t become law, for a simple reason: Democrats opposed it on a party-line vote in the committee, signaling that this would be a partisan issue. Republicans, tied in knots by the tight Democratic opposition, couldn’t even get the Senate to vote on the matter. We now know that many of the senators who protected Fannie and Freddie, including Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Christopher Dodd, have received mind-boggling levels of financial support from them over the years.
Throughout his political career, Obama has gotten more than $125,000 in campaign contributions from employees and political action committees of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, second only to Dodd, the Senate Banking Committee chairman, who received more than $165,000. …
There has been a lot of talk about who is to blame for this crisis. A look back at the story of 2005 makes the answer pretty clear.
Oh, and there is one little footnote to the story that’s worth keeping in mind while Democrats point fingers between now and Nov. 4: Senator John McCain was one of the three cosponsors of S.190, the bill that would have averted this mess.

Once again, more scientific evidence for the undeniable fact of evolution. There never seems to be an end to it.
Primordial Fish Had Rudimentary Fingers
ScienceDaily (Sep. 21, 2008) — Tetrapods, the first four-legged land animals, are regarded as the first organisms that had fingers and toes. Now researchers at Uppsala University can show that this is wrong. Using medical x-rays, they found rudiments of fingers in the fins in fossil Panderichthys, the “transitional animal,” which indicates that rudimentary fingers developed considerably earlier than was previously thought.
Our fish ancestors evolved into the first four-legged animals, tetrapods, 380 million years ago. They are the forerunners of all birds, mammals, crustaceans, and batrachians. Since limbs and their fingers are so important to evolution, researchers have long wondered whether they appeared for the first time in tetrapods, or whether they had evolved from elements that already existed in their fish ancestors.

Greenspan’s Warning
The clear gravity of the situation pushed the legislation forward. Some might say the current mess couldn’t be foreseen, yet in 2005 Alan Greenspan told Congress how urgent it was for it to act in the clearest possible terms: If Fannie and Freddie “continue to grow, continue to have the low capital that they have, continue to engage in the dynamic hedging of their portfolios, which they need to do for interest rate risk aversion, they potentially create ever-growing potential systemic risk down the road,” he said. “We are placing the total financial system of the future at a substantial risk.”
McCain echoed the same kind of warning.
Why didn’t the Democratic majority heed their warnings? Ooops, wait, they weren’t in the majority then, were they?
Heckler, give it up. Both parties have an equal amount of fault for this mess. Both parties turned their collective backs on this one. It started during Carter, continued with Clinton, and ended with Bush. The Republicans controlled congress much of the time; the Democrats the rest. The real problem, to me, is Fannie and Freddie should never have been allowed to contribute to anybody. After all, it was a government created entity. How stupid is that?
Global warming? So what. That was the message Monday from research scientist and best-selling author Roy Spencer to legislative leaders, lobbyists and leading business officials at the Kansas Chamber of Commerce business and energy summit. Spencer is a principal research scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and author of “Climate Confusion.”
Spencer doesn’t deny that Earth is warming, but he attributes that to natural climate cycles and not to the increase in greenhouse gases from burning fossil fuels “There are many of us skeptical of mankind being the cause of global warming,” he said. And, he said, increased carbon dioxide is not a bad thing, and can either be absorbed by the environment or have positive effects, such as increased agricultural production.
Most scientists disagree with Spencer’s findings. They believe increases in carbon dioxide from human burning of fossil fuels, such as coal and oil, are causing climate changes that, if left unchecked, will result in catastrophic flooding, storms, famine and changes in the environment. But Spencer said nature is always changing in ways that produce winners and losers. Even if mankind is affecting the environment, he asked, “Why is it wrong for the climate to be different because we are here?”
During a question-and-answer session, Stormont-Vail HealthCare president and chief executive officer Maynard Oliverius noted that carbon dioxide emissions have skyrocketed in recent years. “So what?” Spencer said. “What’s your point?”
Spencer also advised the several hundred people in attendance not to trust the mainstream media on the topic of carbon dioxide emissions and climate change. “You will be misled on what is out there in the scientific literature,” he said.
Nancy Jackson, executive director of the Climate and Energy Project at the Land Institute in Salina, attended the forum and said Spencer’s talk supported the position of the Kansas Chamber of Commerce, which has urged the construction of two coal-fired power plants in southwest Kansas. The proposed project has been rejected by Gov. Kathleen Sebelius because of concerns about carbon dioxide emissions. “I would clearly prefer that a forum on energy and business in the state of Kansas include diverse viewpoints,” Jackson said. “I’m hopeful we will see that in the future.”

One thing that could have been done to prevent this was to reign in Fannie/Mac. Democrats refused.
Talk all you want about deregulation yada yada. Fannie/Mac is the core of this crisis. And its been a pet of Democrats since it was created.
Heh, heh, Bill Clinton thinks Palin is HOT!
http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/09/23/bill-palin-appeal/
NEW YORK — Former President Bill Clinton said Monday he understands why Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is popular in the American heartland: because people relate to her.
“I come from Arkansas, I get why she’s hot out there, why she’s doing well,” said Clinton

“Talk all you want about deregulation yada yada. Fannie/Mac is the core of this crisis. And its been a pet of Democrats since it was created.”
And why were they created?
To give the Democrats largest constituency a way to get in way-way over their heads in debt in buying homes, for which they would in no way qualify for with out the loan being back by Freddie/Fannie.
They were buying votes plain and simple.
Then it morphed into a way real estate speculators could buy more and more in an appreciating market, which continued to feed on itself going higher and higher until the house of cards fell down.
When are our ‘leaders’ going to exhibit some tough love, and teach responsibility and not simply attempt to buy votes with perks for whoever they are trying to buy votes from.
Just a thought….
Change NO, Restore YES
Change … Change Change!!!!!!!!!!
Not long ago I read a joke … It said all the politicians running for president are promising change to the American people. We send them billions and billions of tax dollars and they send us the change.
Funny?
Not really; there is too much truth in it to be funny.
That got me to thinking … They all promise change. How about if they run on a promise of restoration rather than change. A restoration that would take us back in time to a place where things ran better, smoother and life was more enjoyable. Change? That, in truth, is what they have been giving us all along.
We used to have a strong dollar … Politicians changed that.
Life used to be sacred … Politicians changed that.
Marriage used to be sacred … Politicians are changing that.
We used to be respected around the world … Politicians changed that.
We used to have a strong manufacturing economy … Politicians changed that.
We used to have lower tax structures … Politicians changed that.
We used to enjoy more freedoms … Politicians changed that.
We used to be a large exporter of American made goods … Politicians changed that.
We used to be an openly Christian nation … Politicians changed that.
We used to teach patriotism in schools … Politicians changed that.
We used to educate children in schools … Politicians changed that.
We used to enjoy freedom of speech … Politicians changed that.
We used to enforce LEGAL citizenship … Politicians changed that.
We used to have affordable food & gas prices … Politicians changed that, too. … and one could go on and on with this list.
What hasn’t been changed, politicians are promising to change that as well if you will elect them.
When, oh when, is America going to sit back with open eyes and look at what we once were and where we have come and say, enough is enough?
The trouble is, America’s youthful voters today don’t know of the great America that existed forty and fifty years ago. They see the world as if it has always existed, as it is now.
When will we wake up? Tomorrow may be too late. When will America realize … Politicians are what is wrong with America?
URGENT!$700 BILLION NEEDED FOR BANKS!
Is everyone convinced that $700 Billion must be given away NOW!?
What is the secret of the Urgency? Is Congress paying off a bribe? Why can’t Congress tell the People why it is spending $700 Billion of the People’s money?
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-bailout-congresssep22,0,5078627.story
When Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke explained the urgency of the situation in a private evening session for congressional leaders last week, Dodd said, “There was a pause for about 10 seconds. … The air went out of the room.”
URGENT! $1 BILLION NEEDED FOR MAX!
Max’s company is in trouble. Without an immediate capital infusion of $1 Billion or more, all the cards in the deck will fall.
First Max’s employees lose their jobs, then Max. Then the suppliers of Max’s company lose their jobs. Thousands of people will lose jobs, then their houses, then the entire economy will be in a very deep and long Recession, and then a Depression. GLOBAL THERMO NUCLEAR WAR likely will break out. Martians will invade. And everyone on this planet will die.
It is Essential, Urgent, Imperative, that Congress ACT NOW to save Max. Congress must approve At Least $1 Billion for Max, and the package must be robust and strong to address the problem. Action is needed Immediately, in order for the World to survive.

If it works for the Banks, then why not Max? Why not you?

Hey Phiiip, if this isn’t worthy of a thread, what is? First, it shows the Dem candidates don’t even know what their campaign is doing, and also per Joe Biden, what they doing is “terrible”.

Biden says ad mocking McCain is ‘terrible’
Sep 23, 2:56 AM (ET)
WASHINGTON (AP) – Barack Obama’s running mate says a campaign ad that mocked Republican presidential candidate John McCain as an out-of-touch, out-of-date computer illiterate was “terrible” and would not have been done had he known about it.
Obama, McCain’s Democratic rival, launched the ad earlier this month, part of an aggressive push to slow McCain’s rise in the polls after he chose Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his running mate. It included unflattering footage of Sen. McCain at a hearing in the early ’80s, wearing giant glasses and an out-of-style suit, interspersed with shots of a disco ball, a clunky phone, an outdated computer and a Rubik’s Cube.
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20080923/D93C985O0.html
Local Politics:
Gabel (running against Tim Norton) had a good full-page as in today’s paper. I wish the Eagle would cover our local races better and try to actually look at issues. They ran a ‘hit piece’ against Gabel a few days back that he responded to in that ad.
I’d also like to see coverage of my county district race – Peterjohn vs Marcey. Hank – you live out Goddard way; what is your take on our race?
Sherriff – again; where is the coverage?
When I ran for legislature many years ago I found that the Eagle tended to ignore the races and simply support their choesen candidates. That seems to be happening again this year.
This is not the usual “left-right” situation – I suspect we would find agreement across that divide here. Instead, it seems to be the GOBN vs the outsiders.
Some scary parts of the first bailout proposal.

Outlander I feel this is part of the ‘Biden has to go plan’. After listening to Bill C yesterday I think that there are fillers out about Hillary being tapped for VP. They have a losing ticket as things stand now and would be willing to try anything.
Which presidential candidate is actually more qualified than their VP? You Dims always have things backwards. Your VP is already pooping on your Prez. candidate!!!
“After listening to Bill C yesterday I think that there are fillers out about Hillary being tapped for VP.”
Gee, I thought the word on the street was that it was Palin who would be removed.
Actually – NEITHER one will go.
I thought it was apparent that I do not align myself with republicans. I have posted many times over the last year plus my dissatisfaction with the republican party – and I have even voted for democrats (eg Nancy Boyda).
However, I am clearly NOT a democrat. At least not the extreme left we are witnessing today in the leadership of that party.
I’m probably closest to the Ron Paul ideal (which makes me an evil devil against social programs – which is not exactly true).
Why am I saying all this garbage? Because I note that very few here are willing to be critical of their own party. It is almost blind obedience in loyalty that I am reading. The quick negatives on the opposite party (which kill discussion of the merits of each subject) show no willingness or appreciation for other ideas.
Blind obedience is what got republicans in trouble. Those who are quick to catergorize posters as “neo-cons” need to take a check up from the neck up and make sure they are not being hypocritic.
More importantly, if you cannot post critism of your own party, something is very wrong with that party.
The last few days I have been critical of the bailout. But my criticsm has been more focused on the libs who absolutely refuse to acknowledge that one party did not get us into this mess – and one party is not going to get us out.
Fannie and Freddie have been dealt with, the 700 bil. isn’t for them, the problem is systematic and can not be blamed on them. They did keep liquidity in the system by absorbing some of the junk paper.
Admin. is balking about letting bankruptcy judges reset loans, don’t want than money going to the little guy, and Paulson wants his buds to get their parachutes.
There’s enough blame to go around for everybody when it comes to the current financial melt-down. A republican controlled congress wrote the bill and Clinton signed it. But deregulation and no regulation is a mantra for conservatives.
Too bad we’ve sank so far into partisanship that we can’t join together to fix this. I predict that we’ll argue and stall until it’s too late. The financial house of cards will fall and we’ll all be the worse for it regardless what your political affiliation is.
Max posted the association of both parties with the greedy corporations whose leadership contributed to this mess. Why are they giving money to all these politicians?

I am totally disgusted by what is happening in Washington this week. The republican president is concerned about CEO’s getting their personal bailouts, and the congress is concerned with bailing out the corporations. They are going to rush through the biggest spending bill in our nations history – in one week.
Please think about that. It takes congress almost one year to discuss, vote, and pass legislation funding the 26 appropriations which fund the entire federal government. This bill is about a third of that amount.
Those appropriations actually are part of a five year plan. Each Department of the government plans their budget five years out. What actually gets to congress each year, is the result of five years of planning and cost analysis. (look up federal budgeting/federal financial planning/CFO Reporting).
Without any input, without any direction from any advisers with financial/professional background (CBO cannot react that quickly with any accuracy, for instance).
700 Billion dollars.
To be decided in one week.
I cannot in good faith bust Capn America’s chops for his stand on free cheese. MY MONEY is being stolen, along with the American Dream by republicans and democrats boldly protecting millionaires and their mansions.
Always been against corporate as well as public handouts at the federal trough. The idea is not that I’m against free cheese – it’s always been about the cost of providing that free cheese too.
How can I in good conscience argue against a few billion for the masses any longer?
“American_Way” comes to the altar –

It isn’t a $700 billion bailout. It will be closer to $2 trillion. Read the fine print. Not more than $700 billion at any given time. This is a cash black hole that the government will be able to replenish over and over again with zero oversight.
This article pretty much wraps up what happened last week.

Biden’s apparent answer: He supports clean coal for China, but not for the United States.
“No coal plants here in America,” he said. “Build them, if they’re going to build them, over there. Make them clean.”
“We’re not supporting clean coal,” he said of himself and Obama. They do, on paper, support clean coal.
The answer seems to play into John McCain’s case that Obama has been saying “no” to new sources of energy.
In the primary, Biden opposed Obama’s push for clean coal, which is seen as a way of maintaining or expanding America’s coal-burning power plants — many of which are in rust belt swing states.
“I don’t think there’s much of a role for clean coal in energy independence, but I do think there’s a significant role for clean coal in the bigger picture of climate change,” he told Grist last year. “Clean-coal technology is not the route to go in the United States, because we have other, cleaner alternatives,” he said, but added that America should push for a “fundamental change in technology” to clean up China’s plants.
Biden also was not shy on his own clean energy credentials.
“The first guy to introduce a global warming bill was me 22 years ago. The first guy to support solar energy was me 20 years ago,” he said, apparently referring to the 1986 Global Climate Protection.

“It isn’t a $700 billion bailout. It will be closer to $2 trillion.”
SO TRUE! And our resident member of that industry calls scientists greedy!
I’VE GOT IT!
The PERFECT $700 Billion Solution.
Instead of directly giving $700 Billion to the failing banks, give a voucher for $2,333 to every man, woman, and child in America. They must use the voucher in 10 days to:
1. Invest in a CD, 10 yr term or longer, penalty for early withdrawal.
2. Pay down an existing loan balance. (Cannot be used to make a scheduled loan payment.)
3. The CD or Principal Payment must be transacted with one of the Struggling Banks on the Goverment’s list of Preferred Struggling Banks.
The People paying for the $700 Billion get to invest the money or pay down a loan. (Though to be fair, the vouchers should go to taxpayers only.)
The Banks targeted by Government get an infusion of cash.
The People get the Equity ownership from the investment made by all taxpayers.
Ta Daaaa!!!!!!
Then to complete the Circle of Cash, the Government raises taxes like a SOB on taxpayers to take back the $700 Billion.
That would be the Liberal thing to do.
(Sorta like the Social Security Shell Game Solution)

And Monkeyhawk COMPLETELY misses my point. It didn’t hit him in the head – it went OVER his head.
Indian Giver Plan.
Interesting concept.
I am reminded of the Economic Stimulus Act. The total cost of this bill is projected at $152 billion for 2008 with an additional $124 billion to be spent over the next 10.
Now that everyone has their FREE money, I wonder how many spent it on the things Max mentioned?
Apparently, that deficit spending didn’t help the economy.
The lesson is of course that the Government needs to control all the money. It’s not the People’s money.
The Government when it gives away money, needs to tell the People how and where and when to spend that money.
That’s called Freedom.
And URGENT action is needed right now!
No debate.
No evidence shown.
Just take $700 Billion more of the taxpayers’s money and give it to the Banks right now!
(Oh, and no Congressional Investigations are needed over $700 Billion either. That’s just chump change.)
How many Congressmen have Blood Money on their hands from Fannie/Freddie and the Banks?
Hmmm…….
No reason for a Congressional Investigation.
I wonder who investigates Congress? Congress itself?
The Bush Administration wants to socialize Wall Street, dismantle capitalism, preserve failed CEOs’ Golden Parachutes, and bail out foreign corporations with a Trillion dollars of money we (actually, your children and grandchildren) will have to borrow from the Chinese. And, in the process, they want to give all authority of dispensing that Trillion dollars to one unelected bureaucrat. Just take $700 Billion more of the taxpayers’s money and give it to the Banks right now!
Y’all keep missing this. The text of the bill states that it will be not more than $700 billion at any given time. That means they get to keep dipping into the honey pot. It will be closer to 2 trillion after they are done.
This will not fix the problem. This doesn’t even address the problem. This is merely a firewall. The industry will burn, bright and hot. People will lose millions, billions.
This is a stop gap. A hitch in the giddy-up. They are trying to make the crash landing just a little less violent, but crash it will. And hard.
Mortgage brokers made loans to people they knew could not repay the debt. They profited on that. Now they stand to lose tons. Their fault.
Banks and investment houses bought and sold bundled mortgages knowing there were stinkers in the pile. Their fault.
People took out variable rate mortgages and/or refinanced into variable rate loans. Stupidest thing in the world. They borrowed to the extent they could afford on the easy side of the note. Dumb. Their fault.
People bought investment properties on variable rate loans. Dumb. Their fault.
So let those at fault bear the burden. Let them crash. Let them fail. Let them lose their homes and investments.
The government getting involved will only lengthen, not lessen, the pain. What will keep the morons from doing the same in the future if they are not made to feel the pain of their actions?
More SECRET spending by Democratic controlled congress.

AmWay – isn’t it Bush and Paulson who are pushing for this bailout? Isn’t it Bush who wants no restrictions on CEO pay while we bail out their companies?
At least the Democrats in Congress are trying to get SOME oversight on this. Bush wants Paulson to be appointed God.

McCain wanted oversight on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in 2005 when he introduced legislation to do so.
It was obstructed by the Democrats and failed.
Sol, you were right that last message you sent me. I just don’t know how to keep my fool-mouth shut.

The crime-bosses doing this are hoping that we keep fighting between each other (the parties) just long enough to get the hell outta Dodge. Then we’ll have figured it out. We gotta be a laughing stock to them.

Please remember L J — ers was never tried OR convicted of any crimes.. Actions he might have committed, were done when Obama was a small child… Obama never KNEW that version of Ayers… only the one who is now a University Professor… What is so difficult for you to figure out here??
The 60’s were extremely volatile in this nation then… unlike now (although it could get that way again)…
Why do you hold something against Obama NOW for what was done by his friend whom he didnt even know about in the 60’s??
Let’s see — Let’s ban G. Gordon Liddy from doing anything NOW — because he was a criminal during the Nixon administration…

Ayers is an admitted terrorist. His group was responsible for the death of people. His group bombed the pentagon. He isn’t sorry. Just sorry he didn’t do more. He bombed a police station. He told kids to go home and kill their parents. He got off on a technicallity because he has a well healed dad who is part of the Chicago political machine.
Where is the lie Chas? Your candidate is flawed and the more people know the more they don’t like him.

Biden garbles Depression history
Joe Biden’s denunciation of his own campaign’s ad to Katie Couric got so much attention last night that another odd note in the interview slipped by.
He was speaking about the role of the White House in a financial crisis.
“When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the princes of greed,” Biden told Couric. “He said, ‘Look, here’s what happened.’”
As Reason’s Jesse Walker footnotes it: “And if you owned an experimental TV set in 1929, you would have seen him. And you would have said to yourself, ‘Who is that guy? What happened to President Hoover?’”
By Ben Smith 11:49 AM
And at the time of the Market Crash, what office did FDR hold???
Obama fans: Y’all should spread this. A vote for Barr is a vote against McCain …
We’ve hit their national office and today we start targeting battleground states. ALL of Sen. Obama’s staff and volunteers need to hear from you and know that the support is out their for Bob Barr to be in the debates. Within a few days, I want the entire campaign to be buzzing with talk of letting Bob into the debates.
Now, when I called this morning, the pleasant lady who answered explained that I should be calling the Chicago office. I explained that we did that yesterday and I was just calling to make sure that the Pennsylvania office was aware of my request.
Also, many of you who called yesterday reported that Obama’s staff asked you to call the CPD. Been there, done that. The Commission on Presidential Debates will bend to the will of the major party candidates – or be replaced.
As Bush invited Perot into the debates and as Reagan invited John Anderson to debate, Barack Obama can demand that Bob Barr be included in the debates.
So here’s the task:
1) If you didn’t complete Monday’s task of calling the national office, then today’s makeup day! Please, see yesterday’s email and start there.
2) Get in the right frame of mind. Smile for no reason . . . come on, you can do it.
3) Pick up the phone and call 267-886-8591.
There were no prompts when I called but that may change when the call volume increases.
Once a volunteer answers, politely deliver the following message:
“Hi my name is __________ and I’m calling to request that Senator Obama invite minority party candidates Bob Barr and Ralph Nader to participate in the upcoming presidential debates. Could you please leave this message with the head of your office, Jesse Thomas?

No worries, the gubmint will pay it for you.
You did take home 26 million in compensation for being fired didn’t you to qualify?
So Chas- who is lying about AYers and Obama
Last April, Sen. Obama dismissed Mr. Ayers as just “a guy who lives in my neighborhood,” and “not somebody who I exchange ideas with on a regular basis.”
Fromthe link:
“Yet documents in the CAC archives make clear that Mr. Ayers and Mr. Obama were partners in the CAC. Those archives are housed in the Richard J. Daley Library at the University of Illinois at Chicago and I’ve recently spent days looking through them.
The Chicago Annenberg Challenge was created ostensibly to improve Chicago’s public schools. The funding came from a national education initiative by Ambassador Walter Annenberg. In early 1995, Mr. Obama was appointed the first chairman of the board, which handled fiscal matters. Mr. Ayers co-chaired the foundation’s other key body, the “Collaborative,” which shaped education policy.
The CAC’s basic functioning has long been known, because its annual reports, evaluations and some board minutes were public. But the Daley archive contains additional board minutes, the Collaborative minutes, and documentation on the groups that CAC funded and rejected. The Daley archives show that Mr. Obama and Mr. Ayers worked as a team to advance the CAC agenda.”
Is that a lie? Please provide your proof. If not, please learn not to parrot the line. I supported Obama. I do not because he is just another plitician. Liars all. I don;t support McCain, and never will. I will likely write in “none of the above” during the next election> Unrealistic yes, but remains true to my convictionthat both major candidates smell like last weeks fish.
Marty Fufkin- When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the princes of greed,” Biden told Couric. “He said, ‘Look, here’s what happened.’”

“And if you owned an experimental TV set in 1929, you would have seen him.”
Chas, Franklin Roosevelt didn’t get on the TV as Biden stated.
“Libtards, not to bright, but they sure are fun to watch….”
Yes, they are. Biden may be the GOP’s best friend.
Fuf… might be most interesting to see a video of that statement by Biden… you know, to find out what he REALLY said??
Do you have a link??
Axelrod, Chief Obama Strategist Astroturfing Palin
David Axelrod, Barack Obama’s chief strategist, is a master of astroturf campaigns. It should come as no surprise then that Axelrod and the Obama campaign appear to be behind anonymous attacks against Sarah Palin surfacing on the internet.
The attacks on Palin started online shortly after McCain named her his running mate and quickly spread to the mainstream media. Palin was allegedly a member of the John Birch Society. She became a member of an Alaskan separatist group. She showed no compassion for rape victims in Wasilla, Alaska. The attacks cited news organizations but were all quickly debunked. Unfortunately, the attacks went viral and started circulating through email and across the internet.
What struck many bloggers as unusual about these “grassroots” attacks was the production quality of the videos. They were well done for amateurs. The Jawa Report, a noted right of center blog known for tracking down online terrorists, observed that the videos had a female voiceover strikingly similar to the same voice David Axelrod has used in Obama advertisements and other work.
Breaking yesterday, the Jawa Report has provided stunning documentation and evidence that fairly well proves the videos are tied to David Axelrod and the Barack Obama campaign.
The Jawa Report has so well documented the ties to the Obama campaign that it sent the posters of the online attack videos into a coverup frenzy. The posters have been hard at work yanking all the attacks from the internet. Here, in a nutshell, is what the Jawa Report has shown.
The ads were put on YouTube by user “eswinner.” The Jawa Report alleges that eswinner is actually Ethan S. Winner of Publicis Groupe, whose subsidiary company Winner & Associates is run by Chuck Winner, a Democratic operative and Obama donor. The firm has also represented Valerie Plame and Joe Wilson as well as the European Union in its efforts to sell the European Union treaty to the public.
After eswinner put his attack video against Gov.Palin on YouTube, another user, cnwinner, whom the Jawa Report alleges is Chuck Winner, added comments to the original video giving it legitimacy. Around the same time, another YouTube user, “stckyfngz”, posted the video at the far left site, Democratic Underground. Based on information tracked down by the Jawa Report, stckyfngz appears to be Jared Liu-Klein, another employee of Winner & Associates. Mr. Liu-Klein also represented Valerie Plame.
The ties from Winner & Associates trace back to David Axelrod, chief strategist for Barack Obama. As previously noted, Axelroad is a master of astroturf campaigns. After the Jawa Report broke the story, someone mysteriously edited Axelrod’s Wikipedia entry to delete all references to his various astroturfing campaigns.
Nonetheless, as the Jawa Report notes, “Each and every political ad showcased on Axelrod’s website that has a female voice over seems to be the same voice from the Palin smear ad. That Axelrod used her over and over again in his videos going back several years. We also believe that Axelrod has used her in several official Obama campaign videos.”
Couple the circumstantial evidence with the ongoing coverup — Axelrod’s Wikipedia entry suddenly edited, eswinner and friends removing evidence from the internet, etc. — and it appears the Jawa Report has uncovered a real story of organized online astroturfing designed to smear Sarah Palin on behalf of the Obama campaign.
The Jawa Report lays out all its compelling evidence here =

Hope, Change, & Lies: Orchestrated “Grassroots” Smear Campaigns & the People that Run Them [Updated]
***Sticky***Scroll past on main page for newer posts***Updates sprinkled throughout post and summarized at end***
THE OBAMA SMEAR CAMPAIGN HUCKSTERS
http://mypetjawa.mu.nu/archives/194057.php
* Evidence suggests that a YouTube video with false claims about Palin was uploaded and promoted by members of a professional PR firm.
* The family that runs the PR firm has extensive ties to the Democratic Party, the netroots, and are staunch Obama supporters.
* Evidence suggests that the firm engaged in a concerted effort to distribute the video in such a way that it would appear to have gone viral on its own. Yet this effort took place on company time.
* Evidence suggests that these distribution efforts included actions by at least one employee of the firm who is unconnected with the family running the company.
* The voice-over artist used in this supposedly amateur video is a professional.
* This same voice-over artist has worked extensively with David Axelrod’s firm, which has a history of engaging in phony grassroots efforts, otherwise known as “astroturfing.”
* David Axelrod is Barack Obama’s chief media strategist.
* The same voice-over artist has worked directly for the Barack Obama campaign.

“Obama said something like, “Umm, well, I guess Joe spoke too soon.”
Apparently Obama thinks so
Chas, you seem to be the only one who is “misdirecting”. Your question has no basis as to the point of the article. I do not understand what you are arguing.
(pulls glove off of hand and back-hands Chas)
Biden’s Foot and Mouth Disease
Joe Biden is Obama’s running mate
In 2006, some sections of the Indian-American community took offence to his remarks that “you cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent.”
However, Biden later said his comments were taken out of context.
Closing N-deal very difficult now: Biden
“I was making the point that up until now in my state, we’ve had a strong Indian community made up of leading scientists and researchers and engineers,” Biden had said.
Lately, he said, “We’re having middle-class people move to Delaware, take over Dunkin’ Donuts, take over businesses, just like other immigrant groups have, and I was saying that … they’re growing, it’s moving.”
Nuclear deal is in US interest: Biden
More recently, Biden was quoted by New York Observer as describing Obama as “the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.”
He later apologised for the remark, which was considered by some as racist, and said it was taken out of context.
In 2020, India-US will be two closest nations: Biden
Last year Biden had said Obama was ‘not yet ready for the presidency’, a remark which may now be seized upon by the rival John McCain camp.

Funny you should ask, Chas. The question is actually more relevent than you might think. 1929 is about the time FDR became the govenor of NY. When he did become president in 1933 he had very little more experience than Palin has today. (A lot more than Obama though!)

What’s FDR stand for?
Answer:
He doesn’t!
I know, I know…
Funny as a crutch!
(Can’t help it. I’ve been inspired by Biden and Chas today.)
Good afternoon, Hank:
Truly, in 1929, FDR was the newly elected governor of New York. He had previously been a twice elected state legislator in New York (resigning after reelection in 1913), served as Assistant Secretary of the Navy in the Woodrow Wilson administration, and was on the Democratic ticket in 1920 as the Vice-Presidential candidate. So, in terms of experience in total, maybe a bit more than Gov. Palin as well as Sen. Obama.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franklin_D._Roosevelt#Early_political_career
OK Marty — I didnt question the article, as is quite plain in ALL of my posts regarding said link….
Thank you L J —
NOW —
My point is very simple…. As GOVERNOR of New York State(elected in 1926), and re-elected again in 1930… Roosevelt DID use the words to his constituents, that Biden said he used —- But, obviously, it wasnt on TV (Biden, like all of us, was raised in the TV generation) — what a stupid red herring that was by the footnoter!!
Roosevelt DID however, use the one means of MASS communication available…. RADIO!!
I am sure that a google search will show that Roosevelt DID go on RADIO the day after the CRASH, and speak to his people… the citizens of New York….
Now, anybody want to refute that proposition???

Biden’s Comments next paragraph
“When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the princes of greed,” Biden told Couric.
Reference Stock Market Crash: Wall Street Crash of 1929
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wall_Street_Crash_of_1929
So in that one small statement, Biden makes two gaffs:
(1)That Biden implied that Franklin Rooselvt was President in 1929
and
(2)There were enough TV’s around the country that people actually saw someone, anyone on TV (TV’s were experimental in 1929 and not sold to consumers)
A sarcastic remark by By Ben Smith 11:49 AM
As Reason’s Jesse Walker footnotes it: “And if you owned an experimental TV set in 1929, you would have seen him. And you would have said to yourself, ‘Who is that guy? What happened to President Hoover?’

(3) That Chas is so clueless, he can’t figure this out for himself.
And Max’s best vitriolic contribution SPEW about a disabled President, is to offer up totally ASSININE words: “funny as a crutch” and “What did FDR stand for? Nothing”
Max… somebody needs to beat you senseless… Did you forget that Roosevelt STOOD to give all FOUR of his inaugural addresses?? He also WALKED with the aid of crutches… wrist crutches… you know…. the kind REGULAR talks about using??
DO YOU HAVE NO SENSE OF DECENCY MAX??
DING A LING!!
Chas, do you think Obama has met his neighbors? If so, Obama is friends with Ayers. If not, why not? Why hasn’t Obama met with his neighbors? Isn’t Obama friendly or Christian enough to meet his neighbors? Don’t his neighbors like Obama? Or doesn’t Obama like his neighbors?
How can Obama bring the country together and be President of the UNITED States of America, if he can’t even bring his own neighborhood together?
“He was speaking about the role of the White House in a financial crisis.
“When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the princes of greed,” Biden told Couric. “He said, ‘Look, here’s what happened.’””
And if Biden was speaking about the role of the White House, why would he bring up the governor of New York. Come on Chas, you blew it. Just admit it as a blunder and go on.

Looks like he is trying to “pinch one off”.
Does anybody here remember some of our elders saying something like: “TV – Yea — Radio with pictures”… I heard that a LOT growing up….
Biden was saying that Roosevelt told his fellow New Yorkers after the CRASH not to listen to the princes of greed (we call them “fat cats”) and he said, “Look, here’s what happened.”
And, regardless of Biden’s use of the “TV” word… Roosevelt used MASS MEDIA to talk to his people!!
THATS WHAT BIDEN WAS SAYING….
And you idiots spin it to look like something BAD… Biden beats Palin all to hell with his intelligence… and, he is also known as a gaffer…. even when he has the “guts” of his statement correct, there are those like Limbaugh Fairyland who will milk it for all it’s worth!!
Just like you worthless CONS on this Blog!!

How LIES are spread.
Sarah Palin lies about only a little 2,000-acre “plot” being opened in the Arctic Refuge.
Then others, like a student at Purdue, repeat her lie.
‘Drilling in Alaska isn’t as bad as editorial argued’
http://www.purdueexponent.org/index.php/module/Section/section_id/5/?module=article&story_id=12782
“However, as the governor [Palin] pointed out in a recent CNN interview, the primary area being explored for drilling constitutes about 2,000 acres inside of the refuge. The total area of ANWR is 19 million acres. In more relative terms, this is about the area of a single tennis court compared Purdue’s entire campus.”

“The first evidence that millions of tons of a greenhouse gas 20 times more potent than carbon dioxide is being released into the atmosphere from beneath the Arctic seabed has been discovered by scientists.
Underground stores of methane are important because scientists believe their sudden release has in the past been responsible for rapid increases in global temperatures, dramatic changes to the climate, and even the mass extinction of species. In the past few days, researchers have seen areas of sea foaming with gas bubbling up through “methane chimneys” rising from the sea floor.
Many scientists fear the release of methane could accelerate global warming in a giant positive feedback where more atmospheric methane causes higher temperatures, leading to further permafrost melting and the release of yet more methane. “

“The pickle O’Callaghan’s wagging tongue has gotten its owner into is that, pursuant to Alaska Statute 8.08.230, a person who is not a member of the Alaska Bar who while physically present in Alaska “engages in the practice of law” is guilty of a class A misdemeanor. And in Alaska the “practice of law” includes “rendering legal consultation or advice.”
It would be interesting to know what John McCain thinks about having a criminal serving on his legal team. It also would be interesting to know whether Talis Colberg, Sarah Palin’s attorney general, intends to prosecute O’Callaghan. And if he doesn’t, why not?”
Heckler’s source has a hard time explaining how the bill that “would have prevented everything” couldn’t get out of committee when in 2005 and 2006, the Banking Committee had more RepubliCONs on it than Dems.
And who is Heckler’s source?
Bloomberg says this: Kevin Hassett is director of economic-policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute (i.e., right-wing wackos). He is an adviser to Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona in the 2008 presidential election. The opinions expressed are his own.
“Sounds like the Earth is far more dangerous than its inhabitants.”
Even as he gasps for his last breath, LittleJohn will be attempting to shout, “it wasn’t our fault.”
The release of CH4 is consistent with man-made global warming, because methane frozen under icy seas will percolate up as the seawater warms . . .
BTW, LittleJ–
CH4 is the primary chemical in natural gas.
You and your RepubliCON buddies should “drill, baby, drill” it . . .

CapnAmerica
HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Good one. NOt frozen under icy seas. THe article says UNDERGROUND STORES!
To be fair, from a link on the blog entry, which is all I read

You’ll never see an outlaw

Scientific and medical experts were obliged to correct the lies printed in the “Denver Post” about human life beginning at implantation in the womb. Scientifically and medically and scripturally, human life begins at conception. No other argument is feasible.
If Colorado is able to add this objective fact to their state constitution on this November’s ballot – you can do it, too. Even liberals eventually object to being spoon-fed lies by the media.
Even the writers of the notorious Roe v. Wade decision allowed that acknowledging this fact would necessitate the overturning of their decision, in view of the 5th and 14th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

Routt County United Way in Steamboat Springs, CO is funneling donations to Planned Parenthood abortion mills. The big new Planned Parenthood abortion mill in Denver will target that city’s black community for population reduction by an abortion rate 3 times higher, which should please many of United Way’s racist donors.

Obamanation is still telling lies about wanting universal health care for all Americans. He doesn’t want any health care for babies born alive in America’s abortion mill. That might cut down abortion mill profits.
Abortionist quacks might not get to keep their contract killing fee if the baby lives.
Now Obamanation says that abortion survivors are telling lies about him and taking his votes against abortion survivors out of context.
How do you take a vote in favor of unmistakable infanticide out of context?
- – -
In another leftist lie exposed, Obamanation did in fact have a close working relationship with former Weathermen terrorist leader William Ayers when the two served alongside each other on a hundred-million-dollar education foundation, according to the group’s own archived records, rolling out handouts to leftist, activist groups, such as the notorious vote-forging ACORN.
Unrepentant Marxist flag-stomping federal building bomber Ayers was not just another guy living in Obamanation’s neighborhood.

Anthropogenic GHG’s are warming Earth’s climate. That warming is causing natural, positive feebacks. . . for example, thawing permafrost releases methane, and less ice = lower albedo.

(Unless Biden does something else!)

Iran’s Ahmadinejad Addresses United Nations, Declares ‘American Empire’ Reaching ‘End of Road’
“The Zionist regime is on a definite slope to collapse, and there is no way for it to get out of the cesspool created by itself and its supporters,” Ahmadinejad said of Israel.
The Iranian president is feared and reviled in Israel because of his repeated calls to wipe the Jewish state off the map, and his aggressive pursuit of nuclear technology has only fueled Israel’s fears.
And in a direct attack on the U.S., he declared that the “American empire in the world is reaching the end of its road,” and urged the next presidential administration to “limit their interference to their own borders.”
Palin probably demonstrated that not only can she shoot moose, but beaver as well!
Notice all the smiles.
Thanks for being fair, LittleJ.
But “make your own decision?”
The conventional thought has been that the permafrost “lid” on the sub-sea sediments on the Siberian shelf should cap and hold the massive reservoirs of shallow methane deposits in place.
The growing evidence for release of methane in this inaccessible region may suggest that the permafrost lid is starting to get perforated and thus leak methane… The permafrost now has small holes.

Warm up the sea and release the methane “stores” trapped under the ice.
I think I said that . . .
Guess WHO sounds like a Democrat:
“The U.S. government has made a series of mistakes in the past few decades,” Ahmadinejad said an interview with the Los Angeles Times. “The imposition on the U.S. economy of the years of heavy military engagement and involvement around the world … the war in Iraq, for example. These are heavy costs imposed on the U.S. economy.
“The world economy can no longer tolerate the budgetary deficit and the financial pressures occurring from markets here in the United States, and by the U.S. government,” he added.

McCain Loses His Head
By George F. Will
Tuesday, September 23, 2008; Page A21
Under the pressure of the financial crisis, one presidential candidate is behaving like a flustered rookie playing in a league too high. It is not Barack Obama.
…
Conservatives who insist that electing McCain is crucial usually start, and increasingly end, by saying he would make excellent judicial selections. But the more one sees of his impulsive, intensely personal reactions to people and events, the less confidence one has that he would select judges by calm reflection and clear principles, having neither patience nor aptitude for either.
It is arguable that, because of his inexperience, Obama is not ready for the presidency. It is arguable that McCain, because of his boiling moralism and bottomless reservoir of certitudes, is not suited to the presidency. Unreadiness can be corrected, although perhaps at great cost, by experience. Can a dismaying temperament be fixed?

Believe me, nothing stands in starker contrast to McCain supporters’ lament that Obama is dangerous than George Will’s abandonment of the GOP candidate.
If Will fails to throw his support to McCain, then it must mean that in Will’s opinion Obama has serious, serious strengths as candidate for POTUS.
Vice-President candidate Palin still has not had a single press-conference.
Today we were allowed a photo shoot, and saw how nicely she smiles at world leaders for about 30 seconds per world leader.
And, ut oh! One of the giant mortgage companies at the heart of the credit crisis paid $15,000 a month from the end of 2005 through last month to a firm owned by Senator John McCain’s campaign manager, according to two people with direct knowledge of the arrangement.
The disclosure undercuts a statement by Mr. McCain on Sunday night that the campaign manager, Rick Davis, had had no involvement with the company for the last several years.

Joke:
A biker is riding by the zoo, when he sees a little girl leaning into the lion’s cage.
Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the cuff of her jacket and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her, under the eyes of her screaming parents.
The biker jumps off his bike, runs to the cage and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch.
Whimpering from the pain the lion jumps back letting go of the girl, and the biker brings her to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly
A New York Times reporter has watched the whole event. The reporter says, ‘Sir, this was the most gallant and brave thing I saw a man do in my whole life.’
The biker replies, ‘Why, it was nothing, really, the lion was behind bars. I just saw this little kid in danger, and acted as I felt right.’
The reporter says, ‘Well, I’m a journalist from the New York Times, and tomorrow’s paper will have this story on the front page… So, what do you do for a living and what political affiliation do you have? ‘
The biker replies, ‘I’m a U.S. Marine and a Republican.’
The following morning the biker buys The New York Times to see if it indeed brings news of his actions, and reads, on front page:
U.S. MARINE ASSAULTS AFRICAN IMMIGRANT
AND STEALS HIS LUNCH
Post under your more familiar nic “American way” and I might entertain your spittle with a response.

With America facing historic debt, multiple war fronts, stumbling health care, a weakened dollar, all-time high prison population, skyrocketing Federal spending, mortgage crises, bank foreclosures, etc. etc., this is an unusually critical election year.
Let’s look at the educational background of the candidates and see what they bring to the job:
Obama:
Occidental College – Two years.
Columbia University – B.A. political science with a specialization in international relations.
Harvard – Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude
Biden:
University of Delaware – B.A. in history and
B.A. in political science.
Syracuse University College of Law – Juris Doctor (J.D.)
vs.
McCain:
United States Naval Academy – Class rank 894 out of 899!! Meaning that, like George Bush, McCain was at the bottom of his class!!!
Palin:
Hawaii Pacific University – 1 semester
North Idaho College – 2 semesters – general study
University of Idaho – 2 semesters – journalism
Matanuska-Susitna College – 1 semester
University of Idaho – 3 semesters – B.A. in journalism
FBI Investigating Potential Fraud by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Lehman, AIG
Tuesday, September 23, 2008
WASHINGTON — The FBI is investigating four major U.S. financial institutions whose collapse helped trigger a $700 billion bailout plan by the Bush administration, The Associated Press has learned.
Two law enforcement officials said Tuesday the FBI is looking at potential fraud by mortgage finance giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and insurer American International Group Inc. Additionally, a senior law enforcement official said Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. also is under investigation.
The inquiries will focus on the financial institutions and the individuals that ran them, the senior law enforcement official said.
The law enforcement officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigations are ongoing and are in the very early stages.
Officials said the new inquiries bring to 26 the number of corporate lenders under investigation over the past year.
Spokesmen for AIG, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac did not immediately return calls for comment Tuesday evening. A Lehman spokesman did not have an immediate comment.
Just last week, FBI Director Robert Mueller put the number of large financial firms under investigation at 24. He did not name any of the companies under investigation but said the FBI also was looking at whether any of them have misrepresented their assets.
Over the past year as the housing market cratered, the FBI has opened a wide-ranging probe of companies across the financial services industry, from mortgage lenders to investment banks that bundle home loans into securities sold to investors. Mueller has previously said the FBI’s hunt for culprits in the nation’s subprime mortgage crisis focused on accounting fraud, insider trading, and failure to disclose the value of mortgage-related securities and other investments.
The investigations revealed Tuesday come as lawmakers began considering whether to approve emergency legislation that would give the government broad power to buy up devalued assets from troubled financial firms.
The bailout proposed by the Bush administration is aimed at helping unlock credit and stabilize badly shaken markets in the United States and around the globe.
In the past two weeks, the government has taken over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the country’s two biggest mortgage companies, with a bailout plan that could require the Treasury Department to put up as much as $100 billion for each of them over time if needed to keep them afloat as mortgage losses mount.
Last week, the Federal Reserve provided an emergency $85 billion loan to AIG, which teetered on the brink of bankruptcy. Lehman Brothers was forced to file for bankruptcy after attempts to engineer a private rescue fell apart. All the companies were laid low from bad bets on complex mortgage-related securities.
Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke made the joint decision last week that the only way to stop the carnage was to deal with the root cause of all the troubles, billions of dollars of bad mortgage debt sitting on the books of major financial companies. This debt has triggered the worst credit crisis in decades, causing credit markets to essentially freeze up despite the fact that the Fed joined with major central banks around the world to pump billions of dollars of reserves into the financial system.
Additionally, the FBI is investigating failed bank IndyMac Bancorp Inc. for possible fraud. Countrywide Financial Corp., formerly the nation’s largest mortgage lender and now owned by Bank of America Corp., is also under scrutiny.

(A) IN GENERAL- The Secretary, after consultation with the State of Alaska, the North Slope Borough, Alaska, and the City of Kaktovik, Alaska, may designate not more than 45,000 acres of the Coastal Plain as a special area if the Secretary determines that the special area would be of such unique character and interest as to require special management and regulatory protection.

SEC. 7. COASTAL PLAIN ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION.
(3) ensure that the maximum surface acreage covered in connection with the leasing program by production and support facilities, including airstrips and any areas covered by gravel berms or piers for support of pipelines, does not exceed 2,000 acres on the Coastal Plain.”

“According to the U.S. Geological Survey, possible oil reserves may be located in many small accumulations in complex geological formations, rather than in one giant field as was discovered at Prudhoe Bay. Consequently, development in the 1002 Area could likely require a large number of small production sites spread across the Refuge landscape, connected by an infrastructure of roads, pipelines, power plants, processing facilities, loading docks, dormitories, airstrips, gravel pits, utility lines and landfills.“
