Bush’s great military strategery, ‘Let the house burn to the ground then we’ll put water on it.’ Genocide is the Republican legacy.
Report: Satellite images show ethnic cleansing source of reduced Iraq violence
A study of the Pentagon’s satellite imagery concludes that ethnic cleansing — not last year’s surge of U.S. military forces — is the main factor in the reduction of violence in Iraq.
The report’s conclusion about the surge’s ineffectiveness are supported by many Iraq experts and international organizations who credit a population shift with the decline of sectarian violence, especially in Baghdad, Reuters reported.
Conducted by the University of California, the study analyzed the use of nighttime light across Baghdad and how it changed before, during and after the surge. It’s findings show only some neighborhoods have higher levels of output, suggesting the others had been ethnically cleansed before the surge.

From Paul Krugman –
McCain on banking and health
OK, a correspondent directs me to John McCain’s article, Better Health Care at Lower Cost for Every American, in the Sept./Oct. issue of Contingencies, the magazine of the American Academy of Actuaries. You might want to be seated before reading this.
Here’s what McCain has to say about the wonders of market-based health reform:
” Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.”
So McCain, who now poses as the scourge of Wall Street, was praising financial deregulation like 10 seconds ago — and promising that if we marketize health care, it will perform as well as the financial industry!
A CBS poll shows that after picking Palin McCain actually lost support of women. Obama has a huge lead with women voters.
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/09/17/opinion/polls/main4456249.shtml
Picking a VP candidate who is cool to the issue of rape (making rape victims pay for rape kits, firing the guy who wants to prosecute rapists and child molesters) and partnering her with a guy who jokes about women getting raped, isn’t a winning issue with rational women voters.
Though spy satellite are reportedly able to read a new paper from space. How could they tell a Shiite from a Sunni from space? So saying a satellite image shows that ethnic cleansing is the reason for the reduction in violence is simple minded dribble.
McCain doesn’t know where Spain is. He thinks it’s in Latin America.
There’s a foreign policy for you.
“writerdog” asks –
“How could they tell a Shiite from a Sunni from space?”
Go back and reread the original article.
The methodology is presented pretty straight-forwardly. Watching how neighborhood are dark in the evening certainly isn’t a perfect metric, but it’s logical enough to prompt further inquiry into just why The Surge “is working.”
There’s no sign of life in traditionally ethnic neighborhoods.
Wonder why?
Rush Limbaugh is calling Obama out for “stoking racial bitterness.” I find that amazing. Evidently, Obama had the audacity to use quotes from Limbaugh himself: “Then the commercial flashes two quotes from me: “. . . stupid and unskilled Mexicans” and “You shut your mouth or you get out!”".
Rush claims the quotes were, “taken out of context.” This, from a moron (OOPS, HIGHLY PAID MORON) who wanted to start a slam campaign over Obama’s verbal gaff about 57 states. Apparently, the brain dead rush still hasn’t learned what the word hypocrite means. But then again, being brain dead precludes one from learning new things, so being stuck in the stone age and hurling dung is about all rush is capable of.

The Palin Effect
Her enemies are bellowing like a wounded moose.
by Noemie Emery
09/29/2008, Volume 014, Issue 03
–but it may turn out that the main contribution she makes to his effort is in goading the Democrats into spasms of self-defeating and entirely lunatic rage. Somehow, every element of her life–the dual offense of being a beauty-queen and hunter; the Down syndrome baby who wasn’t aborted; the teenage daughter about to get married, whose baby also wasn’t aborted; the non-metrosexual husband working the nightshift; the very fact of five children–touched a nerve on the liberal template, and sent the whole beast into convulsions, opening an intriguing and somewhat frightening window onto the turbulent id of the left.

Is it true that Palin has admitted smoking Pot?
——————–
Supposedly.
Back when it was legal in Alaska.
Good Morning…I was born and raised in Kansas but have been a resident of California since 1966. I did travel around a lot during a 22 year career in the US Coast Guard but always kept my residence in CA.. I visit Kansas to see my two brothers living in Wichita. I joined the blogg to see what mid-westerners think about the current politics in the US. I get the eastern slant from the main stream media blogs back east and the Jim Jones Kool-Aid drinking crowd here on the west coast. I look forward to bloging with all of you

———————————
Welcome to the blog.
We have eastern slant and Kool-drinking crowd here as well.
But with Kansas being a largely conservative/moderate state, they are in the minority statewide.
However, the dredges of society from the progressive liberal crowd are attracted to this blog so they can make themselves sound important – if you know what I mean.
You would think that Sara Palin being chosen to be on the McCain ticket would excite the NOW crowd. A woman cracks the glass ceiling. I think their shrill panic proves what I have always thought. It’s not The National Organization of Women (NOW) it’s the NOCW. National Organization of Certain Women.
Regulation Vs. DeRegulation
Regulation makes it cost more. Who do you think pays the cost of regulation? Consumers. And if regulation then begins to hurt the economy what do we do?
The State of Oregon has a mandatory increase to the minimum wage every year based upon inflation rate. Jan 1, 2009 Oregon’s minimum wage will increase 45 cents to something like 8.20 and hour. This means that if I own a widget factory in Oregon, I must now pay my workers 8.20 an hour.
Meanwhile over in Idaho my competition still only has to pay their workers 7.50 an hour. So tell me,
HOW do I stay in business???
WHY would I keep my business in Oregon?
Do you think investors will be banging on my door to buy my stock?
How much does the taxpayers of Oregon have to spend to fund the oversight? Paying state workers to go out and make sure I am paying my employees the minimum wage.
In the State of Oregon it is mandated that health insurance companies may only sell health insurance with a minimum of 32 requirements.
This means that if I am a single parent father of a 2 year old boy and I want to buy health insurance just to cover emergency room and regular doctors visits, I can’t, it is REQUIRED that that insurance also provide for birth control and the other 31 mandates.
Anybody want to guess what that does to the cost?
Why wouldn’t the insurance companies love it? I can sell insurance and you are FORCED to buy the more expensive coverage.
De-regulation while modeled on capitalism is gonna lead to greed and cooking the books to make yourself look better to entice more investors, this gets you ahead of the competition.
“Heckler” cut-and-posts from the Weekly Standard –
The Moose-Dresser’s …enemies are bellowing…””
Nah.
We’re just observing the obvious shortcomings of the decision-making abilities of John S (for Senile) McCain the Third (for Shrub’s 3rd term).
To prepare her for the Vice-Presidency, apparently, the Republic Party has sent the Moose-Dresser off to Dick Cheney’s
love nestundisclosed location.I’ve found out that u should never listen to what a far lefty says but instead look at what they do. Put your kids in public schools as theirs go to private education. Anyone remember the Sidwell Friends School? Drive small unsafe cars as they seem to like traveling in large black SUVs.They want to give you a Canadian style health-care system so you can wait for months for routine care. They prefer the Mayo Clinic for some reason. Soft sell violence in out large cities while they live in gated communities.
Look don’t listen
Welcome to the blog, Terry_CA. Kansas is nowadays more “socially” conservative than fiscally conservative, like the Republican Party as a whole. Too many members mostly ignore that and live in the past when The Grand Ole Party was truly grand.
Do you think ALL men are qualified to hold a high national office of responsibility?
Thinking women know ALL women share anatomical parts but not qualifications, intelligence, integrity, education, abilities or experience that would be necessary to be an effective leader.
Deregulation
Ronald Reagan said it best when he was talking about the Russians and it applies to de-regulation to. he said “Trust but verify” Nothing is going to succeed with the govt. all over their backs but govt. through Congress has the power to regulate just enough to stop the greed and fraud but not drown prosperity.
lindainks55
Good thinking Linda
“Terry_CA” –
Sounds like you’ll fit in just fine here at WE Blog.
But you need to catch up on the rhetoric.
It’s not “far lefty,” it’s “Left-Wing-Socialist-Commie-Liberal-Pinko-Marxist-Democrats!!!!”
Otherwise the CONs in this forum won’t know who you’re talking about.
Gotcha Monkyhawk
If you ever come to California I’ll take you on a tour of Berkeley and San Francisco. I don’t want you to think those who you mentioned have gone extinct
Terry:
Public schools – myself, my son, my grandkids
Honda Civic
Never been near the Mayo clinic
Regular Wichita neighborhood.
So, now you can see what I “do”
bth…liberal folks are fine I’m mocking the liberal politicians. When they stump for their cause I call it spitting in your face and telling you it’s raining.
Seriously … look at how they live. I am for prosperity for all and I’m not guilt ridden because I’ve done well in life. It’s called liberal guilt to do well
lind
“Too many members mostly ignore that and live in the past when The Grand Ole Party was truly grand.”
We have to support them, their the only hope.
What do you expect us to do, support Democrats?
It’s what I plan to do until Republicans discover they’ve been hijacked.
What the neocon and social factions have done to The Grand Ole Party make it is the WORST and POOREST choice on the ballot for me.
I would have voted for the 2000 model of McCain. He sold his soul and his attraction to those who are interested in less government, fiscal responsibility, separation of church and state, lower taxes, true accountability, diplomacy…

——————–
Supposedly.
Back when it was legal in Alaska.
________________________________________________
Still, it was a violation of federal law. That makes her a criminal. Besides, what kind of right-thinking conservative would smoke pot?
Under Mayor Palin Wasilla became the meth capital of (at least) Alaska, maybe a greater area as meth production in Alaska is a dominant problem industry.
Oh Gawd I don’t even want to think about lil Sarah high.
Arrre therrre eny moore cheeetoooos? Wherrre arrre the ding dooongs Charrrlieee?
WASILLA – The Matanuska-Susitna area is the methamphetamine capital of Alaska, according to Alaska State Troopers.
In 2003, authorities uncovered nine meth labs in the area. Last year, the number increased to 42, said Kyle Young, an investigator with the troopers who works with the Mat-Su narcotics team.

”
Why do you think NOW would support a woman who is the anti- everything they believe in? NOW supports plenty of men too- the ones who believe in equality. NOW would like to see more women in government who actually believe equal women in government is a GOOD thing. To me, a conservative woman is the same as a woman who would stone to death another woman for not wearing a burkha. They don’t want choices- they want their decisions made for them. Its just like Kay O’Connor- a Kansas Senator who said if men had been doing their jobs, women shouldn’t even wanted the right to vote.
Sarah Palin might as well be just like Kay. She takes advantage of what feminists have done, but wants to remove those same opportunities for other women. No thanks.
Here you go lindainks, since you are so interested in Meth Capitols, thought you’d might what to get the full story on claims to being the Methamphetamine Capitols.

Capitols? They’ve built buildings, temples…
Oh, you must mean capital.
I’m not interested in meth capitols or capitals.
Regular, your cited article is from 2005. I read that far.
My point being is that Meth is a problem in every state.
Don’t forget to watch SNL tonight
Okay, “BlueJay” –
A lot of the time I think you’re a little over-the-top. But I gotta tip my hat to:
“Wherrre arrre the ding dooongs Charrrlieee?”
If WE Blog ran a regular “Comment of the Week” thread, that would be at the top.
I’m kinda surprised no one else seems to have noticed that the Moose-Dresser’s little “mention-the-other-person’s-name” tic is straight out of the Dale Carnegie “How to Win Friends and Influence People” course.
I used to work with a woman who moonlighted as a Dale Carnegie instructor. Everyone hated her.
I’ve seen graduates of the course actually get something out of it. But the instructors are just too, too, … Carnegie-y.
“People love to hear their name” is from Lesson One. “And repeating it helps you remember it!” “And it buys you time to organize your thoughts.” If you think I’m wrong just show up at some motel meeting room when the Dale Carnegie people are recruiting.
Because y’know, “BlueJay,” every time I mention your name, “BlueJay,” you get a little ego boost, “BlueJay,” that I’m interested in you. You, “BlueJay.” And that’s all I showed up for this Dale Carnegie course for, “BlueJay,” is to figure out some way that you, “BlueJay” can part with your money and give it to me, “BlueJay.” Now I realize you don’t have a lot of money, “BlueJay,” but you obviously have enough to afford a computer and an internet connection, “BlueJay,” and if I got that money I’d be better off, “BlueJay,” and you’ll give it to me and make your kid go dumpster-diving for supper, “BlueJay,” if you just realize how interested I am in you, “BlueJay,” as I’ve just proven by mentioning your name, “BlueJay” so frequently.
heh
You should hear my impression of lil Sarah there Monkeyhawk.
I used to date a gal from up North. But her voice made the aaaaaaaas and oooooos and eeeeeees and the hard r’s and n’s sexy.
With lil Sarah it comes across with a Brainy Smurf quality.

Palin calls that free enterprise at its best.
Mail order bride from the School of the Blind, JR?
Obama leading in Michigan and Ohio. Purty Palin just can’t seal the deal!
I’d heard the joke that “One day I’m the Mayor of the Meth. Capital of America, the next I’m the V.P. candidate!” I didn’t think it was rooted in fact!
“Don’t forget to watch SNL tonight”
Is Palin on again?
I think after she gets done embarassing her home state, she may have to go back to being the mayor of podunk Alaska.
I suspected all along that much of the decrease in violence in Iraq was the result of cleansing, like I said, you only have to drive them out, or kill them once, then the rate of violence decreases. Until the two sides clash head on later, or start infiltrating and blowing the other side up.
“I think after she gets done embarassing her home state, she may have to go back to being the mayor of podunk Alaska.”
————-
I’m not so sure even her small town of Wasilla wants her back in any elected office. There was a discussion recently at mudflats about the things Alaskans have learned about Sarah Palin since McCain chose her as his running mate. Several of the Alaskans who blog there say if she needs to come back home this fall, “things” will be different. Citizens, legislators, etc. have learned about their lady Governor, they aren’t tickled with the attention either. Often articles from Alaska newspapers (or links) are posted to the blog, the lady Governor isn’t faring well in her home state. Somebody recently wondered what her “approval ratings” would be now. Of course no polls have been conducted.
Did you see Olbermann last night? He interviewed an Alaskan radio talk show host about the minister who Palin credits with praying her into the governor position. What a kook that minister is! He is from Kenya where he is credited with a witch hunt, among other really kooky beliefs. But, hey, Sarah Palin thinks he is great!
The McCain team putting their noses in their ongoing state investigation, “troopergate,” hasn’t been getting favorable ratings either.
If the McCain ticket wins this fall she will only need worry about McCain possibly tarnishing her political future. If they lose, she has to face citizens in her state. So her risk is great, but her rewards may be great too.
LindaLinks,
I see your problem: watching Olbermann.
“McCain will stop by his 50-year class reunion Saturday at the U.S. Naval Academy football game.
The Arizona senator, who often mentions his time as a prisoner of war during the Vietnam era, graduated from the Academy in 1958, along with fellow alumni John Poindexter and Robert “Bud” McFarlane — two consecutive national security advisers serving under President Ronald Reagan who both played a role in the Iran-Contra affair.”
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/20/campaign.wrap/
What is your point, Linda? Are you saying that McCain was involved in Iran Contra? Otherwise, why bring this up?
Direct quote from the link provided, Raptor. You’ll need to ask the people who wrote it. Or, maybe, you can tell us all about everything.
I was reading the article, was amazed to read McCain had graduated FIFTY YEARS AGO. I am old, but… I copied the two paras having to do with his reunion plans from the article, pasted them here with proper citing.
Got other complaints? I’ve heard if you have enough you can get eggroll with that!
No, “Raptor” –
“lindainks55″ merely misspelled “The Keating Five.”
Weak correlation at best. Let’s see…how many other people graduated from Harvard in 1962 when Ted Kaczyinski did? Are they all guilty by association as well?
I was asking your motive in posting it…simple question, really. It shouldn’t be that difficult to answer…
I thought I answered it. I gave the only answer I have which is the truth. You want me to make up something? I’m not good at it, and never think it serves any good purpose, would have to tell you in advance it was a made up story and all that, but…
“Raptor” —
The point is McCoot graduated from the Naval Academy FIFTY years ago. Fifth-from-the-bottom of his class. The smarter Midshipmen got deep in to Republic Party felonies and treason much earlier than John S (for Senile) McCain the Third (for Shrub’s 3rd term). He, apparently is a slow learner.
Oh sure, Linda. Give us your wide eyed innocent routine. You post something with the insinuation that McCain associated with people who committed felonies. Then when questioned about it, you play the innocent game. Such a phony.

Linda I’m sure you would like to go back to the pre-Gingrich 94 take over of Congress era when Republicans knew their place as the permanent minority party and were content to beg for crumbs from the masters table. When Bob Michaels and Robert Dole were always ready to cut a deal, no matter how much it hurt the Country. When people of faith stayed out of politics.
It wasn’t the Conservatives that sold out the Country, it was the East Coast Rockefellar liberal and moderate Republicans who have been giving the party a black eye. Instead of balancing out the party against the more extreme factions of the conservative movement, they clung to their “money is God” philosophy and undercut the real republicans at every turn. Kansas is a microcosm of what has gone on nationwide. The fat cats in Johnson County and else where gave money and their votes since 1998 to help defeat conservatives in their own party. The result has been six years of the worst governor in Kansas history in a State that is known for electing lousy governors and two congressional seats in the hands of Democrats that should by any measure be Republican. Yeah Linda, the Republican party has been hijacked. But not by the Conservatives.
I gave an honest answer. Out of a long article there were two short paras on the subject of the old coot’s fifty year reunion. I didn’t write it, I copied and pasted it (with proper citing).
You can know my intentions better than I do, it seems. Plus, it gives you the opportunity to call me a name.
It’s your blogging experience and if the opinions you want to share here are what you think of me, go for it!
Chrisfrommactown,
I have one vote and will use it. I expect you have one to use too. If we all agreed elections wouldn’t be necessary.
WOW you think Sebelius is the worst governor? Huh. Cuz everyone but the neofascist GOP God kooks think she’s great.
I guess it must be you.
They’re the same people who think George Bush is doing a fantastic job.

Ohhh, Raptor…. I see…. You think Linda is doingn to McCain, what YOU and YOURS are doing daily to Obama, re: Rezco and Ayers?? You know, Ayers doing his thing when Obama was a KID??? Right, we get it…
You mean he isn’t?
I’ve never done this before — copied and pasted an email into the blog. This one touched me (of course!); it will touch everyone who chooses to read it. Don’t let the mention of Jesus turn you off to the lesson here. Whether God/Jesus/The Holy Spirit, love, compassion, or The Flying Spaghetti Monster is where your thinking falls, we all live in the world and we all put faith in something / someone.
The thing is, I was criticized today and this time I was really innocent. But not always! Nope, many times I am as guilty or more as I was charged with today. It’s because I have developed a reputation, I guess. I’ve been guilty enough times that now I’m always guilty in the opinion of the opposition.
We have chosen sides and there will be no mercy!
I admit there are a few posters I don’t interact with. They are always full of hate of me — not my political persuasions, not my opinions, just ME. With all the people who have asked to be public by running for political offices to represent us, why in the world can’t we all find someone in that political public world to disagree with, to call names, to vilify while leaving posters with differing opinions alone?
After I read the WHOLE email I’m sharing below, I realized that the person telling the story was given Jesus (love, compassion, faith, a lesson in life) this day. In the beginning of the telling s/he said, “I fly frequently, and I always look for an opportunity to share Jesus with someone.”
It is often in the giving that we are given. Is it possible that we here at WEBlog have chosen sides so long ago we lost sight of the fact that people on both sides might have redeeming qualities?
——–
I put my carry-on in the luggage compartment and sat down in my assigned seat. It was going to be a long flight. ‘I’m glad I have a good book to read. Perhaps I will get a short nap,’ I thought. I fly frequently, and I always look for an opportunity to share Jesus with someone. I wondered who it might be this time because there were empty seats all around me.
Not much of a chance to talk to anyone. Just before take-off, a line of soldiers came down the aisle and filled all the vacant seats, totally surrounding me. ‘This is more like it! OK, Lord, which one will it be?
Who needs to hear about you?’ I decided to start a conversation.
Where are you headed?’ I asked the soldier seated nearest to me. ‘Chicago–to Great Lakes Base. We’ll be there for two weeks for special training, and then we’re being deployed to Iraq.’
After flying for about an hour, an announcement was made that sack lunches were available for five dollars. It would be several hours before we reached Chicago, and I quickly decided a lunch would help pass the time. As I reached for my wallet, I overheard soldier ask his buddy if he planned to buy lunch. ‘No, that seems like a lot of money for just a sack lunch. Probably wouldn’t be worth five bucks. I’ll wait till we get to Chicago.’ His friend agreed.
I looked around at the other soldiers. None were buying lunch. I was hungry, but could not bring myself to eat in front of them. I walked to the back of the plane and handed the flight attendant a fifty dollar bill. ‘Take a lunch to all those soldiers.’
She grabbed my arms and squeezed tightly. Her eyes wet with tears, she thanked me. ‘My son was a soldier in Iraq. It’s almost like you are doing it for him.’ Picking up ten sacks, she headed up the aisle to where the soldiers were seated.
I Forgot About Me!
Overwhelmed by her emotional response, I returned to my seat. She asked, ‘Which do you like best–beef or chicken?’ ‘Chicken,’ I replied, wondering why she asked. She turned and went to the front of plane, returning a minute later with a dinner plate from first class. ‘This is your thanks.’
Now I felt guilty–I had dinner and the soldiers had only a sack lunch.
After we finished eating, I went again to the back of the plane, heading for the rest room. A man stopped me. ‘I saw what you did. I want to be part of it. Here, take this.’ He handed me twenty-five dollars.
Soon after I returned to my seat, I saw the Flight Captain coming down the aisle, looking at the aisle numbers as he walked, I hoped he was not looking for me, but noticed he was looking at the numbers only on my side of the plane. When he got to my row he stopped, smiled, held out his hand, an said, ‘I want to shake your hand.’ Quickly unfastening my seatbelt I stood and took the Captain’s hand. With a booming voice he said, ‘I was a soldier and I was a pilot. Once, someone bought me a lunch. It was an act of kindness I never forgot.’ I was embarrassed when applause was heard from all of the passengers.
Later I walked to the front of the plane so I could stretch my legs. A man who was seated about six rows in front of me reached out his hand, wanting to shake mine. He left another twenty-five dollars in my palm.
When we landed in Chicago I gathered my belongings and started to deplane. Waiting just inside the airplane door was a man who stopped me, put something in my shirt pocket, turned, and walked away without saying a word. Another twenty-five dollars!
Upon entering the terminal, I saw the soldiers gathering for their trip to the base. I walked over to them and handed them seventy-five dollars. ‘It will take you some time to reach the base. It will be about time for a sandwich. God Bless You.’

Ohhh, Raptor…. I see…. You think Linda is doingn to McCain, what YOU and YOURS are doing daily to Obama, re: Rezco and Ayers?? You know, Ayers doing his thing when Obama was a KID??? Right, we get it…
———————————————————
What stories are they telling us about Rezco and Ayers??? They haven’t said a thing. And just because Obama was a kid when Ayers was in the Weather Underground doesn’t means nothing. They bombed the New York City Police Headquarters., Pentagon, Capitol and 30 other buildings. The thing is, is this Ayers guy confessed to it and didn’t even feel remorse and he got away with it. I mean come on, what kind of person confesses to a crime and gets away with it. (Remember OJ?)
Ayers is probably supported by dirty money and still is. For all we know that might be how Obama was able to go to the Ivy League school. WHAT kind of person associates themselves with someone who was responsible for deaths and got away with? WHAT kind of society are we living in and condones such action? WHAT kind of people have we become that we would be willing to vote for someone to be our President who associates with and was probably supported by a person who got away with murder?
Linda that was a beautiful story and shows us that when we let the best of us show the world is a much better place.
Thanks for the reminder.

Evidently you dont listen to talk radio very much…. {cough, cough, ahem}
Linda in all honestly when you talk to the people of Alaska who know Palin they still support her. Some toes were stepped on when she cleaned out the corruption in her own party. The press is there 24/7 trying their best to find some dirt on her and so far nothing but the trooper gate story has stuck around. The ‘Sambo’ story was false. This after the story went nationwide as have all of the others started by the press and vindictive bloggers.
There might be something to ‘troopergate’. I really don’t know but she currently has an 80% plus approval rating. It smacks of political dirty tricks. The treatment of Palin and McCain by the media has shown me and many others that we aren’t picking a prez. The press is picking one for us. Sad.
“Palin-guage! Do you speak it?”
If your state produces 3.5 percent of the U.S. domestic energy production, then claim that it “produces nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic supply of energy”.
And claim that gives you credentials re “energy independence”.
‘Energetically Wrong’
http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/energetically_wrong.html
It appears that cosmos the lying non-scientist, doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
More recent figures from the Department of Energy show that Alaska is responsible for 18.1% of United States domestic oil production and 13.1% of domestic natural gas production.
So Palin’s claim is dead on, based on statements from Alaska’s main energy industry organization, though their figures are slightly out of date. Even based on the most up-to-date data, her statement on natural gas production may be slightly overstated, but she’s pretty close on oil production, as 18.1% can reasonably be described as “nearly 20%.

“According to the federal government’s Energy Information Administration, Alaskan wells produced 263.6 million barrels of oil in 2007, or 14.3 percent of the total U.S. production of 1.8 billion barrels.
…
EIA figures show Alaska accounted for just 1.9 percent of total U.S. natural gas production during the six months ending June 2008. And even that is dropping rapidly. The figure was 2.3 percent just two years earlier.”
Oh no! Cosmos was wrong about the percentage of energy produced by Alaska. Missed a link there Cos?
The troopergate story doesn’t state anything that hasn’t been said before. She said he was a rogue director at odds with her agenda. This happens when the top guy is changed. Surely you can find a link on that one Cos.
Oil production from Alaska’s North Slope began in 1977 and increased to 2.2 million barrels per day by 1988, representing 25% of the U.S. domestic production. Production has since declined to below 900,000 barrels per day in 2005, but still represents about 17% of the U.S. domestic production.

cosmos,
You’re not part of the official investigation.
I doubt seriously you even know anyone that is part of the official investigation.
You don’t know what has been investigated or not.
All of your information is second, third and fourth hand outside the formal atmosphere of an investigative board.
In other words cosmos, you’re posting made up stuff and lies as usual.
But Reg if a lib says it three times it is the truth and can then be stated as such.

Thank you for pointing out in your 7:34 pm Alaska’s oil production how oil production has declined.

Production has declined, but not potential production.
And of course, the extremely bright future of compressed natural gas available in the trillions of cubic feet from Alaska to power retrofitted cars and industry.
Badami field, 1/2 way between Prudhoe Bay and the western edge of the Refuge, has NOT produced as expected.
It was shutdown before oil prices rose a few years ago, restarted when prices rose, and still is a low producer.

“On a warm July day in 1932, H. G. Wells visited Oxford
University’s summer school to deliver a major address to the
Young Liberals, a group of progressive activists. Wells is remembered
today primarily as a science-fiction writer, but this hardly
does justice to the man. He was arguably the most influential
English-speaking public intellectual during the first half of the
20th century. His writings were foundational to the linked progressive
and social-gospel movements. He was a prominent member
of the Fabian Society. His articles on religion and politics were
read from the pulpit with electric excitement by American pastors.
He was a frequent guest of Franklin Roosevelt in the Oval
Office, and his meetings with the president were front-page news.
“On that summer day at Oxford, Wells sought to summarize
the unifying political idea of his life’s work. That idea expressed
itself in different forms over the years. He championed a “world
brain” that would unify mankind under the auspices of a collective
intelligence overseen by special men—variously identified
as scientists, priests, warriors, even airmen and ‘samurai.’ But
always they would lead and rule from above, making the hard
decisions about everything from war and peace to eugenics and
economics. The ‘will and the ideas of public-minded, masterful
people’ working through ‘a militant organization’ were necessary
to forge a ‘modernized state’ that would ‘release the human community
from the entanglements of the past.’ This idea, this urge,
defined Wells’s political vision. ‘I have never been able to escape
altogether from its relentless logic,’ he declared. But until that day
at Oxford he lacked a name for it. The name he came up with?
‘Liberal fascism.’
“Wells’s term was provocative, but not nearly as controversial
as you might think. For it wasn’t until the early 1930s that men
of the Left were increasingly required to dissociate themselves
The Journal / March 2008 7
from fascism (W. E. B. Du Bois lasted longer than most, praising
Nazism as late as 1937). The Kremlin had declared at the Sixth
Congress of the Third International that fascism was the last gasp
of capitalism long prophesied by Marxist theology. While many
useful idiots believed this, Stalin’s intent was more strategic than
ideological. National Socialism was proving to be a seductive
alternative to his failing brand of international socialism. The
workers of the world, it seemed, did not want to unite—but the
workers of Germany, Italy, and other nations did. So Stalin issued
his theory of ‘social fascism,’ which declared any socialist movement
or organization that dissented from international socialism to
be ‘objectively fascist.’ (Trotsky was anathematized as the leader
of a ‘fascist coup.’)
“But before this hoax worked its way through the Western
mind, fascism was still ‘progressive.’ Indeed, at the climax of the
Progressive era, the Western world was in the throes of what I call
a ‘fascist moment.’”

Cosmos doesn’t grasp the lack of logic in his argument.
He actually thinks that simply because some new drilling is not a success, we shouldn’t bother at all.
With that kind of logic, you would think he would have given up on trying to convince us that the world is going to end because of AGW.
Him and his doomsday chicken littles have failed to convince the world of the impending doom. They should just give up, just like he says we should do when it comes to drilling for more oil.
Terry CA: For years,I experienced the Canadian Health Care System and some of my family still do, why the knock? May I suggest you read the Amercian Student Medical Association Report about Canadian Universal Coverage and supposed “reliance’ on US healhtcare? Gawd, do you think that folks with one of the worlds’ highest standards of living and income, plus an educations system that ranks in the top 3 in most areas tested worldwide, would just stand around like feed lot cattle waiting for medical attention? The NY Times in an international survey showed Canada to have the highest postitives and lowest negatives of any nation on earth, and their Universal Coverage was part of the positives. It bugs me to see your post because I KNOW it to be false. OK, now I’m over my snit…..

Uhm, no.
You CONs had damned well better stop whining about taxes as long as you advocate $15 billion a year in corporate welfare to the most profitable corporations in the history of capitalism.
You can re-state your opponents’ arguments with straw man fabrications, boy, but you’re not helping your case.
MonkeyHawk,
Not only do you not seem to understand what a strawman argument is, but you introduce a red herring in the process.

Nathaniel does NOT grasp the point of my post about Badami.
Oil production from new fields is NOT guaranteed.
The geology of the Arctic Refuge is different than Prudhoe Bay, and production is not guaranteed.
Higher energy efficiency is guaranteed, and also cheaper.
