So I’m standing kindof hidden back out of sight at my grandparent’s house helping my grandpa do something today, when a bicyclist *an adult* passes kindof slowly by my son on the sidewalk. My son being the innocent little sweetheart he is- starts saying to the guy on the bike “hi, i like your bike’ and something else I couldn’t hear. As the guy passes, he yells at my son ‘f’n dweeb’. My son has no idea he’s been insulted, and just keeps on with his conversation, getting louder as he’s pedaling away.

Had I not been holding a bunch of stuff, my immediate reaction was ‘I’m going to go kick his a” In hindsight it was probably a good thing I was so unable to react- because I’m sure my son would not understand me running full blast into the guy knocking him off his bike and beating the holy heck out of him. And I don’t want him to think that is appropriate at all. However my mama bear instinct went crazy at that time. I’m always afraid of when he’s more able to go out on his own who will take advantage of him- being autistic- he very well could be used to do ‘dirty work’ for kids who think getting him into trouble or putting him in harm’s way would be funny. But now I have to worry about him being teased by adults too?
I’m also quite surprised by my fantasy of just hunting this guy down and doing very very bad things to him or his stuff. That bicycle would make a lovely hood ornament! Who the heck have I become? Psycho-mama?
Here I’m wondering what this world is coming to when people act like that- but wouldn’t I just make it worse? perhaps I should say “we love you anyway” Perhaps the guy has mental issues of his own. Doesn’t matter- I still want to run into him some day as he’s pedalling really fast down the street and shove a pole between his tire spokes. The image of him flying through the air makes me happy. *I’m seriously LMAO right now*

Of course, then there would be the brain injury I’d likely have to pay for.
But wouldn’t it be worth it for him to be standing by the corner drooling as some guy drives by on his bike in a year and yells ‘fn dweeb’ to him?

Sometimes revenge fantasy can be the best, there are no consequenses to your action. Kids can and will be cruel but for an adult to act like that is inexcuseable.
One of the most impportant things we taught our kids was that you don’t ever make fun of people because they are different, their Mom was DON at Winfield State Hosp before it was shut down and they were exposed to people of all ages and levels of disabilties. Even to this day you don’t want to let my kids hear anyone making fun of someone who is different because they will get right in your face(my kids are 27 and soon to be 23)

Chuckle… Obama may have stepped in it again. Making fun of McCain for not being internet savvy. Reality slap. Check this out:

    http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=OTliMTNiZjg5ZDEwZWNiZDYwZWFjN2JlNjNjNjkxZmM=

Or this one from Slate Magazine (IN 2000!):

Six months ago, no one would have pegged McCain as the most cybersavvy of this year’s crop of candidates. At 63, he is the oldest of the bunch and because of his war injuries, he is limited in his ability to wield a keyboard. But McCain’s job as chairman of the Senate commerce committee forced him to learn about the Internet early on, and young Web entrepreneurs such as Jerry Yang and Jeff Bezos fascinate him. Well before he announced his exploratory committee, McCain had assimilated the notion that the Web could be vital to the kind of insurgent, anti-establishment campaign he wanted to run. In December 1998, he sent his longtime political aide Wes Gullett to Minnesota to study Jesse Ventura’s successful gubernatorial campaign, which was the first to use the Web in an effective and innovative way.

Last night McCain participated in another Web first: the first-ever “cyberfundraiser.” At the event, he boasted about the latest returns from his Web site.

“I see the Internet as revolutionizing politics,” McCain declared, endorsing the eventual prospect of Internet voting and explaining that he thought the Web would lead to a better-informed electorate as well as better-informed elected officials. He also gave the Web extensive credit for getting him where he is in the campaign. “I would argue that one of the major reasons we’ve had the success we’ve had so far is because of the Internet,” he said.

So, McCain is not only aware of the power of the the web, he uses it. Did Obama step into a well-layed McCain trap?

    “Political_mama” –

    There’s a bit of a conundrum.

As you described the bicyclist, I got the image of a local guy who, when I was a kid, was obviously mentally ill or developmentally impaired. (As we were typical 5th graders we called him “Dummy Dom.” I’ll spend some time in Hell for that, I imagine.)

In that light, a guy shouting unprovoked insults while pedaling down the street might mean he’s schizophrenic, has Touret’s Syndrome, or is otherwise affected.

It could be your grandson’s challenge had nothing to do with the comment. Could be everyone he sees is a “f’n dweeb.”

Still. I recognize the Mama Bear response. We all have moments that trigger us to go full-grizzly on an idiot.

    Ya never know.

Sometimes the best part of indiscretion is discretion.

Palin’s ‘Banned Books’ List Is a Hoax
    Newsmax

“After reports surfaced that Sarah Palin had sought to ban books from her local library when she became mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, a list of the books she supposedly wanted to ban began appearing on a number of Web sites.

The list included such classics as “Huckleberry Finn,” “Silas Marner,” “To Kill a Mockingbird,” and Chaucer’s “Canterbury Tales.” It even found its way to a blog linked to the My.BarackObama Web site, where it was claimed that the list “comes from the records of the Wasilla library,” and was distributed via e-mail by a Palin foe.

The truth is, Palin never compiled that or any other list of books to be removed from the Wasilla library, various sources have reported.

In fact, several of the books on the list, including four “Harry Potter” books by J.K. Rowling, were not yet published when Palin took over as Wasilla’s mayor in 1996.

It turns out that the list is a reproduction of a generic list of “Books Banned at One Time or Another in the United States,” which has been on the Internet for years, according to conservative pundit Michelle Malkin.

The original source of the hoax is unclear. But the Anchorage Daily News in Alaska reported that when Palin first became mayor in 1996, she asked the city librarian, Mary Ellen Emmons, what her response would be if Palin asked her to remove some books from the library’s collection. She did not mention any specific books. Emmons responded by saying she would resist all efforts to ban books.

Emmons subsequently received a letter from Palin informing her that she was going to be fired. The censorship issue was not mentioned as a reason for firing, according to the Daily News.”

“The letter just said the new mayor felt Emmons didn’t fully support her and had to go,” the paper reported. “After a wave of public support for [Emmons], Palin relented and let Emmons keep her job.”

A thinly veiled threat in the form of a letter from Palin informing the librarian she was going to be fired – don’t you find this the least bit suspicious in the aftermath of their recent conversation?

Palin is exactly what she described herself as – a pitbull with lipstick. There are many reports of bullying behavior by Palin towards anyone she disagrees with or is not one of her inner circle.

Palin likes to say she kicked the corrupt good ole boys out of politics. What she really did was to beat them at their own game and brought in her OWN corrupt bunch.

You gotta wonder just how corrupt Alaskan government really is. It’s like a… well, small-town PTA.

So many reporters comment on how people of every political stripe are really reluctant to speak openly because they’re worried about the repercussions.

One of the damnedest things about political campaigns is that the lies have to work only until the polls close in November.

If you find out about the crimes or refute the lies after election day, it doesn’t matter. “The people have spoken,” and all that.

Do you think we all become complacent with the particular severe weather our region experiences? When we’re under a tornado warning here in Kansas too many go outside to look at the sky. And although I completely understand we must be warned when the conditions warrant, there are many times we’re warned and the weather doesn’t do what it could have. We should be smart enough to know it only takes once and each time we should take cover, but many of us aren’t. Most of us just need to go under our own house and can come back up soon since tornadoes are quick. That’s sure easier than what you need to do in hurricane warnings!

It would be difficult to leave your home knowing you may not be allowed back for some time, knowing you have to go a distance away and that could be costly. Knowing of the times looting has happened and wanting to stay to protect your home.

Probably many people in regions that suffer hurricanes have lived through a few times the weather didn’t do what it could have.

This time there was transportation offered to those who didn’t have it, that wasn’t the case in New Orleans. All levels of government learned hard lessons and did a much better job. Now if we could just get past the human nature of thinking this will be another false alarm, not as bad as they’re saying…

She refused to give details about how Stambaugh has not supported her, saying only that ”You know in your heart when someone is supportive of you.””

The Board of Directors of the Wichita Public Library System, as reorganized by Charter
Ordinances No. 72 of January 1980 and No. 119 of July 18, 1989, is composed of fourteen
members. The fourteen members are appointed by the Mayor and City Council with each being
responsible for the appointment of two board members. The Library Board has exclusive
authority in handling its operation except for the authority for issuing bonds and levying taxes,
which is vested in the City Council. (K.S.A. 12-1222)

Interesting that few know how political most city functions are. In a smaller town that Wichita such as Palins the mayor has direct responsibility over the librarian. Little wonder that if this person supported her opposition she would want to know if they would be at cross purposes is this librarian was retained.

Very surprised that the liberals on this blog don’t know how that works.

“Obama had a HUGE opportunity to empower women by putting Hill on the ticket. He chose otherwise.”
    ——-

I think Senators Obama and Clinton made that decision together. No proof of this, but neither is there any proof it didn’t happen. Senator Clinton has a very bright future (no matter who wins this fall!) and the vice presidency wouldn’t have been a positive step in her political career.

There are so many exciting possibilities for the future of American politics!

But we must consider the entrance of Sarah Palin. SHE was my “epiphany”. I have to vote against Sarah Palin. The best way to defeat her is to vote for Obama. I ask you to do the same.

Yes, the Democratic party has made a mistake. Yes we COULD wait four years and correct that mistake. But there is too much at risk. Sarah Palin must NOT be a heart attack away when John McCain’s “supporters” are quietly and eagerly wishing him dead.

Just heard from someone in Ohio that former Hurricane Ike has knocked out power for millions of people from Cincinnati to Cleveland. 80 mph wind gusts in Ohio from a Hurricane!

Police are warning people to stay off the streets and to be aware of looters. They may be without power for a week or more.

Sitting at home in the dark in Cincinnati or Cleveland cannot be a pleasant experience, especially if you have no way to defend yourself when looters are all around. A man in Cleveland was shot while he was just sitting on his front porch!

This situation is one reason for the 2nd Amendment folks.

Obama doesn’t believe in this right though. Think about that for a moment. What kind of man would disarm people and leave them defenseless in their own homes? Obama.

Before I turn in, Boxlock, wanted to pass along the latest DC Gun Ban stuff:

Washington DC continues to fight for its gun ban – To Spite the US Supreme Court.

Notice the FALSE, DRAMATIC, and IMFLAMMATORY lies told by the DC Police Chief!

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2008/09/09/ST2008090902237.html

Gun Bill Dangerous, D.C. Chief Tells House

“Imagine how difficult it will be for law enforcement to safeguard the public” if semiautomatic guns are allowed, D.C. Chief Cathy L. Lanier said.

D.C. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier assailed a new bill yesterday that would eliminate most of the District’s gun laws, telling a congressional panel that the measure would allow residents to carry loaded semiautomatic rifles in the streets, creating a nightmare scenario for homeland security officials.

“Imagine how difficult it will be for law enforcement to safeguard the public, not to mention the new president at the inaugural parade, if carrying semiautomatic rifles were to suddenly become legal in Washington,” she said.

  85. MaxGrobnik
    Posted September 14, 2008 at 10:50 pm | Permalink

Now, IF (big IF)a newspaper could actually RESEARCH & READ a Bill before publishing such BS, maybe the PRESS would actually be worth reading again, and sales would not be sliding.

Here’s the DC Gun Bill #HR6691:

    http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c110:H.R.6691:

    This Bill will:

    1. Repeal the DC ban on semi-automatic rifles and pistols. (Commonly used in all 50 States!)

    2. Repeal Gun Registration. (It serves no law enforcement purpose.)

    3. Repeals Handgun Ammo ban. (Banning the bullets effectively bans the guns, ya know. Duh.)

    4. Restores the Right to Self Defense in the Home.

    5. Allows DC residents to buy guns in either MD or VA. (There are no gun stores in DC – a de facto ban!)

  86. Posted September 14, 2008 at 10:50 pm | Permalink

    Boxlock–

    Incorrect.

Even if the state goes for McSame, rational people can still vote for Jim Slattery, Donald Betts, Democratic State Senators, Reps, and School Board.

  87. MaxGrobnik
    Posted September 14, 2008 at 10:51 pm | Permalink

    NOTE:

HR6691 does NOT say that guns can be carried in the streets. HR6691 is NOT a Shall Issue Carry law!

So why does the Police Chief LIE and say:

“Imagine how difficult it will be for law enforcement to safeguard the public” if semiautomatic guns are allowed, D.C. Chief Cathy L. Lanier said.

D.C. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier assailed a new bill yesterday that would eliminate most of the District’s gun laws, telling a congressional panel that the measure would allow residents to carry loaded semiautomatic rifles in the streets, creating a nightmare scenario for homeland security officials.

Unfortantely, too many use it as a rocking chair, or mid management fiefdom.

Sorry, but as much as I respect and honor veterans, military retirement is a coddle.

You yourself James are evidence. You produce nothing.

Fortunately, I know how to spell ‘unfortunately’, unlike yourself Junior.

Military retirement involves putting in more than twenty years of military service. I know long term commitment on a job is foreign to you Junior as you’ve never held a job more than a year before being terminated.

Your cutting lawns is not hardly a career move I would recommend either. What do you do when the grass stops growing? Sit on your ass?

Besides, I did other jobs after I retired from the military. Just because you don’t know about them is your misfortune and my benefit.

I know all you have in your life is to insult other people and what they think, Junior. No one likes you, they just put up with you. lindainks just tolerates you and gives you a line of b.s. that she likes you, when she really doesn’t.

You could disappear and not a soul on this planet would ever miss you.

    Bird,
    Of course I’m not.

What you did to Junior – was to confront him. He expects you to apologize for that.

For confronting no apology is in order.

    Yes well

“Freebird” is a drunk and most likely another nic of “Regular”.

And as I am addresing the blog paraih James McCluer.

Sitting on your ass on my dime is what you do isn’t it?

You have no children, no wife.

    No life.

But you can inflict yourself on other people here while they pay for YOUR priviledge.

Have your sister wipe your chin, change you and tuck you in. Count yourself lucky I chose not to meet you.

Wouldn’t be the first time a Lib poster faked being a blog poster on the right. Funny how some of these nuts just appear out of nowhere. Usually on those days Chas or one of the other Libs get real quiet.

Now for something different, it is funny how 1.3 million dollars can change a Maverick’s long held opinion about certain matters:

“I am very angry, frankly, at the oil companies, not only because of the obscene profits they’ve made, but at their failure to invest in alternate energy to help us eliminate our dependence on foreign oil.”

–Sen. John McCain June 13, 2008

Where did that guy go? He was the Republican senator who built his maverick image in part by taking on the oil barons, opposing them on such big issues as opening our public waters to drilling rigs. But, astonishingly, the senator who was so angry at oil executives is now hugging them like old buddies and parroting their line. “My friends, we have to drill offshore. We have to do it,” he declares today. Why do we “have to” do it? Because, he says, ” the oil executives” told him it would be a good thing.

To know what caused this stunning flip-flop, follow the money. On June 16–only three days after his “angry” speech–McCain gave another talk in which he abruptly reversed his long-held opposition to offshore drilling. Then, that very same day, he boarded his “Straight Talk Express” airplane and flew off to Texas for–guess what?–a series of fundraisers with oil executives. On June 17, for example, he snuggled with energy honchos at a closed-door luncheon at the San Antonio Country Club–and walked out with a love offering of $1.3 million for his presidential campaign.

A McCain spokesman said huffily that it is “completely absurd” for anyone to suggest that the candidate’s switch in position had anything to do with oil money. “McCain takes positions because he thinks it’s the right thing to do for America,” the spokesman insisted. Uh…which position would that be, sir? The angry anti-oil view expressed on June 13, or the exact opposite delivered three days later?

If McCain is confused on the political equation of “position = money,” Big Oil definitely is not. Prior to his miraculous conversion on June 16, the industry had never warmed up to him, ranking a distant 12th on his career list of top contributors. With his speech and Texas schmoozefest, however, McCain opened the spigots. As one advisor to oil companies put it, “I think the industry was very appreciative.”

This country really needs a viable 3rd party that would represent the people and not just the chosen few. Sadly I realisticlly don’t see it happening mainly because with out money no party will survivie and we all know the 2 major parties have that locked up. I guess the only thing that could get a 3rd party up and running would be the majority of people who are not being represented by either the Republicans or the Democrats to finally get together and say ENOUGH! we are taking our country back
