As the elder on the Wichita City Council from 1997 to 2005, Phil Lambke sometimes couldn’t see past his southeast-side district toward a greater good for the city at large. But you had to admire the consistency of his conservatism and his low tolerance for nonsense, such as when he called city staff members’ travel spending “loose as a goose” and a consultant’s presentation a “bunch of mush.” When he left the bench, we offered this spoof headline: “Asked for parting statement, Phil Lambke says ‘no.’” Our thoughts and prayers are with Lambke’s family, in the wake of his death Friday at age 87.

He was right on the mark about the staff spending. I have to agree he is not like the bunch we have today that appear to be yes people before they even hold hearings.
We need a brass historical marker in front of city hall commemorating City Councilman Phil Lambke as one of the greatest city councilmen in Wichita’s history. Phil wasn’t enmeshed in his own web of “visions and dreams” like most of our other elected city councilmen and county commissioners.
Perhaps it was Phil’s privately-owned small hardware store in southeast Wichita where he and his staff provided actual glass and screen repairs in addition to selling and explaining hardware supplies that kept him grounded in the basic needs from city government.
Condolences to the Lambke kin,
Rest in peace Mr. Lambke, enjoy the view from above.
Lambke was “6-1 Phil” for many years on the Wichita City Council. If he didn’t feel we absolutely had to have something he would not support spending the money. He told the voters that would be his position and it was his action.
Every time a conservative dies, the world is a little brighter place.

Liberal love at it’s best.
Skelton seems like another good man who quite appropriately looks out for his underserved district. And another one who “calls ‘em like he sees ‘em”
RIP Phil – and keep up the good fight Larry.
BlueJackass you are such a pathetic loser. How can you be so cruel?
Sunflower…bj is just showing his true self, very crass and a lowlife. Nothing surprising.
