Is GOP the cure for GOP-controlled government?

The Republican National Convention helped energize the GOP base, but it also was a bit surreal and confusing. President Bush was rarely mentioned. And the main theme was how bad it is in Washington, D.C., and how John McCain and Sarah Palin would bring needed reform. But the GOP has controlled the federal government for most of the past eight years. And many of the reforms that McCain has championed during his career have been opposed by the GOP base and most of his GOP colleagues in Congress. If voters want change, should they elect McCain and Palin or throw out the GOP?

Things not often talked about at the convention:
    1) Bush
    2) The economy
    3) Mortgage problems
    4) Global warming
    5) National debt
    6) Trade deficits

Basically anything the Republicans made worse.

The problem is that under Bush too many Republicans in congress said to hell with the conservative principle of smaller government.

Palin energized those of us who still have hope for reducing the size and scope of Federal government. Is that hope misplaced? Only time will tell but we darn sure know we don’t want what Obama Bin Biden have to offer.

did I miss something here? Was there another election overnight and the Congress lost its Democratic majority? You know..the place where budgets are born (and added to with countless pork)?

Or…is the US House still in Democratic control with the worst speaker ever still there?

Are you not aware of the parliamentary games the Republicans are doing to prevent votes on essential bills? YEs, the party that used to DEMAND “up-down’ votes stalls and obstructs… Get real..

“Senate Republicans have obstructed almost every bill in the Senate – even ones with wide bipartisan support.

    * So far, in the first half of the first session of the 110th Congress, there have been THIRTEEN cloture votes on motions to proceed – each one wasting days of Senate time.
    * In comparison, in the first sessions of the 108th and 109th Congresses combined, there were a total of FOUR cloture votes on motions to proceed.

*EIGHT times Republican obstruction tactics slowed critical legislation”

As I recall gasoline was around 2.80 something in 2006. In 2006, a lot of republicans lost their seats to democrats who were considered conservative. Then there was that famous speech by Pelosi how they were going to shake up the congress and make changes and lower gas prices. Well that didn’t happen. Gas prices have doubled in the two years that the democrats have been in power in the congress. I think Congress is now shaking in their boots at the thought of someone like PALIN who is going to be the one that REALLY comes in and CLEANS HOUSE in the CONGRESS.

Of the issues where McCain agreed with Bush 90% of the time, the Democrats seem to find it hard to list off the issues where that “agreement” was established.

Democrats really thought this election would be a cake walk.

The Dem’s strategy goes like this:

    1. Bush is unpopular
    2. Bush is a Republican
    3. McCain is a Republican.
    4. Therefore, McCain is the same as Bush.

Notice the lack of ability to focus on actual issues here?

Meanwhile at the two conventions, the Maverick in McCain shines through while the Democrats look like a bunch of whining Republican haters.

    maybe not a promise but

Appearing this afternoon on MSNBC’s Hardball, White House Counselor Dan Barlett adamantly denied that anyone in the administration claimed that the Iraq war would lead to lower gas prices. The transcript:

MATTHEWS: [W]e’ve been struck by higher gas prices. That was another promise made, that this war would help us get cheaper gas —

    BARTLETT: I don’t think —

MATTHEWS: None of these promises come through.

BARTLETT: That’s not correct, Chris. The president or no one else ever said that this war was going to result in cheaper gas prices…

MATTHEWS: Ok, so just to make it official, Dan, no one in the administration has ever said that we would have cheaper gas because of war in Iraq, just to make it official?

BARTLETT: I don’t recall anybody ever saying that, Chris.

As Matthews noted later in the broadcast, Laurence Lindsey – President Bush’s senior economic advisor at the time — argued in 2002 that the Iraq war would increase oil supplies and lower prices. From the Washington Times, 9/19/02:

As for the impact of a war with Iraq, “It depends how the war goes.” But he quickly adds that that “Under every plausible scenario, the negative effect will be quite small relative to the economic benefits that would come from a successful prosecution of the war.”

“The key issue is oil, and a regime change in Iraq would facilitate an increase in world oil,” which would drive down oil prices, giving the U.S. economy an added boost.

    CONSERVATIVES MADE HYPOCRISY AN ART

The federal government has three branches. The legislative, i.e., Congress, was under conservative control from 1995 until 2007. The judicial, i.e., the Supreme Court, consists of nine justices, seven of whom were nominated by conservative presidents. The executive, i.e., the president, is George W. Bush.

That it doesn’t matter much at all you can credit to conservative politicians who have, over the years, trained their followers to respond with Pavlovian faithfulness to certain terms. Say “conservative” and they wag their tails. Say “liberal” and they bare their fangs.

More to the point, say either and all thinking ceases, so much so that a representative of the ideology that has controlled most of Washington most of the past 12 years can say with a straight face that his ideology needs to seize control of Washington to fix what is broken there. And people hear this Orwellian doublespeak… and cheer. Why not? They have been taught that words mean what you need them to in a given moment.

Sadly, it has proved an easy lesson to impart. Turns out, all it requires is a limitless supply of gall and the inherent belief that people are dumber than a bag of hammers.

On June 8, 2008 Palin was publicly blessed, with the “laying on of hands” before six thousand Wasilla area church members, by Head Wasilla Assembly of God Pastor Ed Kalnins and on the same day both Kalnins and Palin described, at a “Masters Commission” ceremony at the Wasilla Assembly of God church, how she had been blessed prior to winning the Alaska governorship by an African cleric known for driving the “spirit of witchcraft” out of a town in Kenya, after which town supposedly crime rates dropped “almost to zero.”

Sarah Palin’s churches are actively involved in a resurgent movement that was declared heretical by the Assemblies of God in 1949. This is the same ‘Spiritual Warfare’ movement that was featured in the award winning movie, “Jesus Camp,” which showed young children being trained to do battle for the Lord. At least three of four of Palin’s churches are involved with major organizations and leaders of this movement, which is referred to as The Third Wave of the Holy Spirit or the New Apostolic Reformation. The movement is training a young “Joel’s Army” to take dominion over the United States and the world.

One thing that is obvious is that running against McCain simply because he is a Republican does nothing to paint an image that the Democrats are the party to bring the country together.

McCain mentioned during his RNC speech that NEITHER party has all the answers and that we have to work together to make solutions that are the best interest the country. All the Dems did at their convention was Label McCain a Republican (which he is) and by that fact alone, claim that he will ruin America. Does not stick.

Every cent of the money going to the Freddie/Fanny bailout is a subsidy for people who own debt on bad loans made on inflated real estate. It is a protection for those who scrambled to cash in on a bubble. It is a direct transfer of billions if not trillions of dollars from working people, to the very richest people in this country, who leveraged the FDIC insured savings of every single working family in America to purchase the bad debt in the first place. I would much rather the government use those billions and maybe trillions to reimburse account holders in failed banks, rather than propping up the banks themselves. And it would be much cheaper. Instead, we will get a vast transfer of federal wealth to the very richest people in the country, most of whom dumped their Freddie/Fanny stock months ago, or made further billions on the huge swings in Freddie/Fanny stock prices, as the vulture’s shadow fell, and then passed.

The sad part is that not one foreclosure is going to be forestalled, not one family will be allowed to keep their home, not one debt will be adjusted to realistic levels. Instead, The debts and bad paper will be guaranteed by the U.S. Government at a cost equal to if not greater than the Iraq war, and with money that could be used to rebuild our energy system, every rusty bridge in the nation, and every classroom. Money that could be used to put every American to work rebuilding the country. It is sick, sick, sick, and instructive, as the Democrats too are behind it. If Freddie/Fanny failed, the only people hurt would be those who bought the repackaged debt. Our meager accounts are insured, now apparently, so too, is a trillion or two in bad debt.

This can go only so far. Just remember your government has just declared war – on your children. The wonderful irony in all of this is that eventually, it will be the rich who will be fleeced to the bone to pay the debt, as they will be the only ones left with the means.

Palin took a city with no debt, reduced taxes on the rich, increased sales taxes, and left the city with a $22 million debt. Yup, she’s another George Bush.
    —————————

one MORE thing she “left the city” with……
    an 80% approval rating
    ___

I thought Republicans did not govern on poll ratings? Wasn’t that the mantra during Bush’s dismal approval ratings?

What I find interesting about Palin’s term as mayor is the report that she pushed through this project of building an ice rink on land that was not legally the city’s? There is some sort of litigation still going on years later.

What sort of smart executive would build an ice rink on land they don’t own?

Spent more on sex eduction = raised teen pregnancy rates, Most stds in history, most abortions in history.
Spent more on Law enforcement = raised crime rates.
Spent more on drug education = raised teen drug abuse.
His taxes left us in a recession.

RFL spins, “Labeling a large majority of Americans as terrorists . . . ”

A majority of Americans do self-define as Christians. I do, in fact.

However, I know P-Mom isn’t talking about me. She’s talking about the people who want to merge religion with government and have a state-sponsored theocracy, with their version of “Christianity” enshired as the politically correct one.

So you are right, RFL, that a majority define themselves as Christian in the US. But you are wrong, and you know it, to pretend that P-Mom’s condemnation was directed at all of them.

It was directed at the Falwells, the Hagees, the Robertsons, and the Swaggerts who want to take America back to 1692 and burn witches.

I was late feeding my dog (Weim) the other morning, and it started nudging me and opening and shutting its jaws in a chewing motion.

Now that’s a smart dog. Scary smart.

Four men were bragging about how smart their dogs are.

The first man was an engineer, the second was an accountant, the third a chemist, and the fourth was a government worker.

To show off, the engineer called to his dog. “T-Square, do your stuff.” T-Square trotted over to the desk, took out some paper and promptly drew a circle, a square, and a triangle. Everyone agreed that was pretty smart.

But the accountant said his dog could do better. He called his dog and said, “Spreadsheet, do your stuff.” Spreadsheet went out into the kitchen and returned with a dozen cookies. He divided them into four equal piles of three cookies each. Everyone agreed that was good.

But the chemist said his dog could do better. He called his dog and said, “Measure, do your stuff.” Measure got up, walked over to the fridge, took out a quart of milk, got a 10 ounce glass from the cupboard and poured exactly 8 ounces without spilling a drop! Everyone agreed that was good.

Then the three men turned to the government worker, and said, “What can your dog do?”

The government worker called to his dog and said, “Coffee Break, “do your stuff.” Coffee Break slowly got on his feet, ate the cookies, drank the milk, crapped on the paper, sexually assaulted the other three dogs, claimed he injured his back while doing so, filed a grievance report for unsafe working conditions, put in for workers’ compensation, and went home for the rest of the day on sick leave.

Don’t dismiss the fact that Sarah Palin is Commander of the Alaska National Guard– consider this.

Alaska is the first line of defense in our missile interceptor defense system. The 49th Missile Defense Battalion of the Alaska National Guard is the unit that protects the entire nation from ballistic missile attacks. It’s on permanent active duty, unlike other Guard units.

As governor of Alaska , Palin is briefed on highly classified military issues, homeland security, and counterterrorism. Her exposure to classified material may rival even Biden’s and certainly by far exceeds Obama’s.

She’s also the commander in chief of the Alaska State Defense Force (ASDF), a Federally recognized militia incorporated into Homeland Security’s counterterrorism plans.

Palin is privy to military and intelligence secrets that are vital to the entire country’s defense. Given Alaska ’s proximity to Russia , she may have security clearances we don’t even know about.

According to the Washington Post, she first met with McCain in February, but nobody ever found out. This is a woman used to keeping secrets.

She can be entrusted with our national security, because she already is.

On August 29, 2008, Republican Presidential nominee, John McCain, announced Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska as his

VP running mate. That selection has trumped and checkmated the Obama-Biden ticket.

Coming the day after Obama’s historic acceptance speech at the Democratic convention, which speech and Obama’s earlier pick of Joe Biden as his own VP running mate, were expected to be the top news item leading into the Republican convention the following week, McCain’s pick of Sarah Palin however completely eclipsed those events.

In less than 24 hours, Obama’s day in the sun had been come under a cloud of shadow and was relegated to history being completely upstaged by the Palin choice. The news cycles have talked about nothing else since in terms of the presidential politics.

The choice by McCain has stunningly energized the conservative base of the Republican party, an important segment McCain had his own problems with. But by choosing Palin, a staunch conservative, he has revitalized his commitment and perception in that area. Many conservatives who had relegated themselves to simply voting against Obama, are now more than willing to for “for” Palin.

The choice also reached out directly to independents and disaffected Democratic voters, particularly women, who were so sorely disappointed by Hillary Clinton’s narrow loss and the way they had been treated since Obama sealed the nomination. Particularly in overlooking Hillary Clinton, who won 18 million votes in the primaries, and actually had more votes than Obama, those disaffected women are also excited about Palin, and indicating by the tens of thousands on blogs and disaffected Hillary voter sites on the web that they intend to cross over and vote for her and McCain.

The Obama campaign and DNC, curiously, have already launched all out attacks against the choice and Palin herself, indicating that she does not have enough executive or national experience.

Excuse me? She does not have enough executive experience?

A simple analysis of the relative experience levels of Sarah Palin compared to either Democratic candidate puts this to rest. For over the past decade, Sarah Palin has been involved in executive decision making at increasing levels of elected positions of public trust. Obama has no executive experience, Biden has no executive experience. During that time, Palin left off running an actual private business in Alaska , a commercial fishing business and was elected to her city council and then, in quick order to be Mayor of her home town. She did so well there that she was ultimately elected to be Governor of the State of Alaska , managing 17,000 personnel and a 9 billion dollar budget. Obama and Biden have absolutely no comparable experience at all, neither of them.

Beyond all of this, there is also a part of Sarah Palin that most hard working, patriotic, and committed Americans are coming to adore about her. She is real. She is authentic. Not only has she stood up to corrupt politics and the old networks that have produced so much waste, fraud, and “bridges to nowhere”, she is also a regular person, and authentic all-American girl, wife, mother, and citizen.

She has actually walked the walk of reform and change instead of just talking about it.

She does not come from privilege, did not aspire to it, or become placed in it. She did not attend the Ivy League or prestigious schools. She has gotten to where she is by pure honesty, integrity, and strength of charachter and has been raising five kids and enjoying life while doing so.

All of this drives the leftist and anti-American crowd mad. Sarah Palin is the real deal. Young, refreshing, committed wife, mother, American citizen.. She is the real deal when it comes to the change that is so much needed in American politics, particularly in Washington . John McCain must be congratulated for vetting her, seeing this, and putting her on the national stage.

She represents in fact, and in her own actions, what so many others (including Obama and the entrenched Biden) only talk about, and then go on with business as usual.

Obama, in his own actions and positions as a State Senator (voted merely present so many time in the State Senate, but voted no defending the Born Alive Abortion Protection Act there), in his own actions and positions as a US Senator (spent only 144 days on the job before beginning his campaign for the President, but in those short days was recognized as the Senator with the furthest left record), and particularly in his own willful associations of long standing with hateful, racists individuals like Jeremiah Wright (who preached “Not God bless American, No, No, No, God Damn America!) to Obama and his children, and with the likes of Bill Ayers, the unrepentant, arrogant, and militantly anti-American political connection where Obama kicked off his own political career, who bomber the US Pentagon, the US Capitol, and NY City Polic Headquarters and then claimed in an interview published on 911 that his only regreet was that he had not done enough…no with such actions and such associations (npot to mention TOni Rezco, Pleger, and others), Obama has proven that his change is precisely the type we do not want or need in Washington.

The one for Politicians are largely absent of details and specifics. Loose lips abound in Congress and quite frankly, they are are not well trusted.

Those in the chain of command, making direct decisions like the President, Pentagon and even Governors get to know the real deals. They get the nitty and the gritty.

BOTH Parties are in on this deal, a very short-term solution to get them thru the November elections.

It will cost the Taxpayers Trillions of dollars in the Long-Run.

It’s true because of regulations. One prepares a briefing differently to someone who is not in the chain of command (a congressman) than they do for someone who is in the chain of command and has the need to know.

For your information, governors are not in the chain of command. When the National Guard is called into service of the United States, governor are have no authority over such operations.

And the notion that “loose lips” in Congress can’t be trusted may be George W. Bush’s policy, but it’s not democracy. Produce some evidence that Bush is briefing state governors on classified information on anything to the exclusion of elected national representatives and I might start to take your crap seriously.

But that will, of course, provide yet another compelling reason to impeach Bush and Cheney.

THE AUDACITY OF TRUTH – OBAMA IN HIS & HIS SUPPORTERS OWN WORDS

Barrack Hussein Obama is constantly having to clarify his positions, his associations, and his own words. He veils and hides who he really is behind platitudes, not very well thought out positions, and a media, rock-star blitz.

What follows are a number of youtube vidoes, many of them in Obama’s own words, and those of his close associates for over 20 years, and other supporters, which make clear who Obama is and what he reperesents:

“MSNBC Drops Olbermann, Matthews as News Anchors

    By Howard Kurtz
    Washington Post Staff Writer
    Monday, September 8, 2008; C01

MSNBC is removing Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews as the anchors of live political events, bowing to growing criticism that they are too opinionated to be seen as neutral in the heat of the presidential campaign.

David Gregory, the NBC newsman and White House correspondent who also hosts a program on MSNBC, will take over during such events as this fall’s presidential and vice presidential debates and election night.

The move, confirmed by spokesmen for both networks, follows increasingly loud complaints about Olbermann’s anchor role at the Democratic and Republican conventions. Olbermann, who regularly assails President Bush and GOP nominee John McCain on his “Countdown” program, was effusive in praising the acceptance speech of Democratic nominee Barack Obama. He drew flak Thursday when the Republicans played a video that included a tribute to the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks, saying that if the networks had done that, “we would be rightly eviscerated at all quarters, perhaps by the Republican Party itself, for exploiting the memories of the dead, and perhaps even for trying to evoke that pain again. If you reacted to that videotape the way I did, I apologize.”

Matthews, who has criticized politicians in both parties, drew less criticism for his convention role but became a divisive figure during the primaries when he described how he was inspired by Obama’s speeches and made disparaging remarks about Hillary Clinton, for which he later apologized.

In May, MSNBC President Phil Griffin said in an interview that during live events Olbermann and Matthews “put on different hats. I think the audience gets it. . . . I see zero problem.”

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/08/AR2008090800008_pf.html

Palin hasn’t ordered Alaska National Guard to do anything
    http://www.kansascity.com/445/story/780734.html
“However, the governor has no command authority overseas or anywhere in the United States other than Alaska, said Maj. Gen. Craig Campbell, the service commander of the Alaska National Guard.

“When members of the National Guard are federalized, they work for the president,” Campbell said Wednesday. “It’s not just overseas. They could be federalized to go to other states or they could even be federalized in the state.”

Occasions in which Palin retains command authority over the 4,200-member Alaska National Guard are whenever the Guard responds to in-state natural disasters and civic emergencies, said Campbell, who also serves as the commissioner of the state Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.”

Both the common stock, first, and preferred stock, second, holders are going to be hurt pretty bad, at least to their positions in Fanny and Freddy.

The bondholders, or the “dept”, though are sitting pretty right now. The dept bonds have been secured by the Feds.

Those folks, I’m one, will not only not be hurt, but are now even in a better more secure position because that dept is now backed by the U.S government, not unlike Treasuries. The rate of return on that dept (the bonds) is higher than on Treasuries, and they now have approx. equal risk…supposedly none. That security and higher rate of return makes them nice.

This has to make you think a little bit, if not then keep your blinders on!

George Bush has been in office for 7 1/2 years. The first six the economy was fine.

A little over one year ago:
    1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
    2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
    3) the unemployment rate was 4.5%.
    4) the DOW JONES hit a record high– 14,000 +
    5) American’s were buying new cars, taking cruises, vacations o’seas, living large!…

But American’s wanted ‘CHANGE’! So, in 2006 they voted in a Democratic Congress & yep–we got ‘CHANGE’ all right. In the PAST YEAR:
    1) Consumer confidence has plummeted ;
    2) Gasoline is now over $4 a gallon & climbing!;
    3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase);

    4) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $12 TRILLION DOLLARS & prices still dropping;
    5) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.
    6) as I write, THE DOW is probing another low~~11,100–
$2.5 TRILLION DOLLARS HAS EVAPORATED FROM THEIR STOCKS, BONDS & MUTUAL FUNDS INVESTMENT
    PORTFOLIOS!

YEP , IN 2006 AMERICA VOTED FOR CHANGE!…AND WE SURE AS HELL GOT IT!!!….

NOW OBAMA, the DEM’S CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT–AND THE POLLS SAY HE’S GONNA BE ‘THE MAN’–CLAIMS HE’S GONNA REALLY GIVE US CHANGE!!….

JUST HOW MUCH MORE ‘CHANGE’ DO YA THINK YOU CAN STAND???…..

Embracing Bush’s ideas due to losing appeal? My goodness, if Obama is really that stupid, he does not deserve to be president. I think the point the writer missed here is that Obama said he would delay the resending of tax cuts for the top earners IF we were in a recession. Obama is not saying he will not rescind the cuts at some point.

“We need change, all right. Change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington. We have a prescription for every American who wants change in Washington — throw out the big-government liberals.” — Mitt Romney, Sept. 3, 2008

And then the gorilla run knee socks paint porno on the Cadillac. But school laughed and didn’t we sing hats?

    Ahem.

Maybe you wonder what the preceding gobbledygook means. I would ask which gobbledygook you mean: mine or Mitt Romney’s? If he’s allowed to spew nonsense and people act as if he’s spoken intelligently, why can’t I? If he gets to behave as if words no longer have objective meaning, why can’t I?

I mean, baffle grab on the freak flake. Really.

    And again, ahem.

If you’re a regular here, you’ve heard me rant from time to time about intellectual dishonesty. By this, I mean more than just your garden variety lie. No, to be intellectually dishonest means to argue that which you know to be untrue and to substitute ideology for intellect to the degree that you’ll do violence to language and logic rather than cross the party line.

Yes, we’re all intellectually dishonest on occasion. But no one does it like Republican conservatives. They are to intellectual dishonesty what Michael Jordan was to basketball or the Temptations to harmony: the avatar, the exemplar, the paradigm. They have elevated it beyond hypocrisy and political expedience. They have made it . . . art. Which returns us to the astonishing thing Mitt Romney said while addressing the party faithful in St. Paul. You want to walk around it the way you would Michelangelo’s David, admiring the elegance of the workmanship. You hesitate to touch it, much less pull it apart. To do so seems almost an act of desecration.

Unfortunately, some of us are too plodding and earthbound, too blind to the seductions of art, too stubbornly wedded to some vestigial notion that intellectual honesty matters, to walk past a steaming pile of bovine excreta without calling it a steaming pile of bovine excreta.

So excuse me, beg pardon, so sorry, but I have to ask: what liberal Washington is he talking about? The federal government has three branches. The legislative, i.e., Congress, was under conservative control from 1995 until 2007. The judicial, i.e., the Supreme Court, consists of nine justices, seven of whom were nominated by conservative presidents. The executive, i.e., the president, is George W. Bush. Enough said.

Washington is already what Romney wants to make it. Our current state of affairs, love it or loathe it, is indisputably a product of conservative governance. I wish that mattered more than it does.

That it doesn’t matter much at all you can credit to conservative politicians who have, over the years, trained their followers to respond with Pavlovian faithfulness to certain terms. Say ”conservative,” and they wag their tails. Say ”liberal” and they bare their fangs. More to the point, say either and all thinking ceases, so much so that a representative of the ideology that has controlled most of Washington most of the last 12 years can say with a straight face that his ideology needs to seize control of Washington to fix what is broken there. And people hear this Orwellian doublespeak . . . and cheer. Why not? They have been taught that words mean what you need them to in a given moment.

Sadly, it has proven an easy lesson to impart. Turns out, all it requires is a limitless supply of gall and the inherent belief that people are dumber than a bag of hammers.

And all it costs us is language, the ability to have reasoned and intelligent political discourse, the idea that words do, and should, have weight, dimension and intrinsic meaning. Maybe you disagree. In which case, let me just say this:

Piffle crack eat monkey snow. Really.”

You Can’t Fake Authenticity- Cal Thomas
What is it about Sarah Palin that has gotten the liberal media’s knickers in a twist? Why are they criticizing, even mocking, everything from her hair to her faith?

She is exactly what the feminists claim to want and admire in women: strong, self-assured, a working mom, a political leader. But wait, she is a conservative Republican and because of that they hate her for displaying all of the aforementioned characteristics.

They are appalled that she would keep a Down Syndrome child when she could have aborted him. They are outraged when she speaks of God as if she knows Him, when their only acquaintance with the name is as a curse word, followed by “damn.” They are even disgusted that she has five children, as they think one (or two if you are Obama) is enough.

Sarah Palin is to the left what sunlight is to a vampire. Her high heels have knocked them back on the heels of their comfortable shoes.

She has galvanized and united the social and economic conservatives, when the left thought it saw an unbridgeable divide between the “oil and water” elements of the Republican Party.

The USA Today-Gallup Poll published Monday shows a ten point advantage for McCain-Palin among likely voters — the most important constituency. That is a remarkable turnaround when you consider Obama received an eight-point bounce from the Democratic Convention, which has now been wiped-out.

I think it has something to do with the fact that average people, who live in what the left thinks of as “flyover” country, identify with a woman who has an intact, yet imperfect family. They can visualize her pushing a grocery cart at the supermarket and shopping at Wal-Mart.

You can’t fake genuineness and if this trend continues, Obama and the entire Democratic Party — which thought it had this election in the bag — will be left to wonder over the next four years how they got their pockets picked by someone they arrogantly consider a yahoo from moose country.

The gross national product includes air pollution and advertising for cigarettes and ambulances to clear our highways of carnage. It counts special locks for our doors and jails for the people who break them. GNP includes the destruction of the redwoods and the death of Lake Superior. It grows with the production of napalm, and missiles and nuclear warheads… it does not allow for the health of our families, the quality of their education, or the joy of their play. It is indifferent to the decency of our factories and the safety of our streets alike. It does not include the beauty of our poetry or the strength of our marriages, or the intelligence of our public debate or the integrity of our public officials. It measures everything, in short, except that which makes life worthwhile.

And has risen from the base he helped build in what was formerly one of the most segregated Northern cities to become a U. S. Senator and a presidential candidate. That leap alone is as great and took as much courage as any McCain ever made from an aircraft.

I hope Palin goes to Chicago, and promised to help clean up Chicago, as well.

Pretty damned hilarious: I see the breathtakingly moronic (but deliciously Orwellian!) strategy is still underway.

So we still have the supposed awesome leadership and authority of a corrupt small-town mayor and first-term governor being touted as so much more important and relevant than the experience with budgeting, rulemaking, and auditing of actual federal government. Good point: Senator John Mc–er, Barack Obama is obviously unqualified. Hell, why would anyone trust this country to someone who’s never ever been a mayor, (let alone a governor) like John Mc–er, Barack Obama?

You can’t argue with logic like that.

Bbut of course that same argument means, inescapebly, that Bill Clinton was far more qualified to be president in 1992 than George HW Bush or Bob Dole). Considering the degree of Clinton-bashing we’ve seen from the cons here, that’s a rather amazing revelation.

“There have been more murders, in Chicago, than in Baghdad lately” – WE FH

Prove it. And don’t drag out that tired comparison between American troops and people murdered in Chicago. The troops aren’t being killed because they are hunkered down so they won’t get killed. CNN reported at least a half dozen deaths of Iraqi troops and policemen this morning, and that doesn’t even count the civilians that were killed. Three were found shot to death in Baghdad this morning.

Gosh, Obama cleaned up Chicago! Only an 18% increase in murders this year too! Obama helped PROMOTE MORE WELFARE!!! Socialist!!!

(More Americans have been killed in Obama’s organized community of Chicago, then in Iraq in 2008!)

    Per Wiki:

Community organizing is a process by which disempowered people—most often low- and moderate-income people—are brought together to act in their common self-interest. Community organizers act as area-wide coordinators of programs for different agencies in an attempt to meet community needs for health and welfare services. They also facilitate self-help programs initiated by local common-interest groups, for example, by training local leaders to analyze and solve the problems of a community. Community organizers work actively, as do other types of social workers, in community councils of social agencies and in community-action groups. At times the role of community organizers overlaps that of the social planners.[1]

    Yep. Repeatedly.

But there’s a big difference between a verbal slip (saying the wrong thing), and a rational slip (e.g. not knowing about some of the newer countries in Eastern Europe).

How to Have a Block Party

Residents in neighborhood areas may request permission to temporarily close residential streets for the purpose of holding a Block Party in their neighborhood. Requests to close streets for Block Parties must be coordinated through the City Manager’s Office (268-4351).

    1. Residential streets only may be closed for up to five (5) hours to hold a neighborhood event involving residents in a block or defined area. No major arterial streets may be closed. The Police Station in the area needs to be contacted for advice & support to coordinate a safe event.

    Patrol North – 688-9500 Patrol South – 337-9200
    Patrol East – 688-9331 Patrol West – 337-9400

    2. Signatures & addresses for all properties within the defined area should be obtained. No special form is required. Through acquiring the signatures, each resident in the area is notified and given opportunity to discuss concerns with the organizer about the street closure.

Thanks, but no thanks Kandisue. I really despise all of this petty “gotcha” politics. It is just getting ridiculous.

The Republican ticket has created tremendous positive excitement with the Palin pick. The left is showing it’s true colors with the awful treatment Palin has received. Yes, there is the desire to give it right back to them, lie for lie. But, if we stay positive and quit making stupid allegations (like Obama is a Muslim), we can draw an even clearer line between the left and the right in common sense department.

That is what Americans want. Common sense.

This is hilarious, suck on this wingnuts

    http://www.danielpipes.org/blog/2005/04/is-grover-norquist-an-islamist.html

Paul Sperry, author of the new book, Infiltration, in an interview calls Grover Norquist “an agent of influence for Islamists in Washington.” When asked by FrontPageMag.com why a Republican anti-tax lobbyist should so passionately promote Islamist causes, Sperry implied that Norquist has converted to Islam: “He’s marrying a Muslim, and when I asked Norquist if he himself has converted to Islam, he brushed the question off as too ‘personal.’” As Lawrence Auster comments on this exchange, “Clearly, if Norquist hadn’t converted to Islam, or weren’t in the process of doing so, he would simply have answered no.”

Indeed, Norquist married Samah Alrayyes, a Palestinian Muslim, on April 2, 2005, and Islamic law limits a Muslim woman to marrying a man who is Muslim. This is not an abstract dictum but a very serious imperative, with many “honor” killings having resulted from a woman ignoring her family’s wishes

Oh, here are just TWO of Obama’s votes against the right to use a gun for self-defense IN YOUR OWN HOME!!!!

    Barack Obama’s Slippery Oratory
by Wayne LaPierre, Executive Vice President
    NRA Standing Guard – April 11, 2008

To understand Barack Obama on the Second Amendment, you have to know about the clash of character between the then-Chicago state senator and an ordinary citizen who exercised his right to armed self-defense in violation of a local gun ban.

That citizen was a 52-year-old resident of Wilmette, Illinois, who, on Dec. 28, 2003, woke to find that, during the night, his home had been invaded by a career criminal; a thief who stole household items, keys and the homeowner’s car.

The victim, Hale DeMar, described his fear in a letter to the Chicago Sun- Times: “For me, the seconds until I found my children still safely tucked in their beds were horrifying . . . The police were called and in routine fashion they came, took the report and with little concern left, promising to increase surveillance. Little comfort, since the invader now had keys to our home and our automobiles. The police informed me that this was not an uncommon event in east Wilmette and offered their condolences . . .” Not 24 hours after the first burglary, the thief returned. Using DeMar’s house keys, the man entered the home, this time setting off the alarm system, automatically notifying the security company. Given the previous night’s lackluster response by police, DeMar was prepared, armed with a handgun–legally purchased years before and kept in a safe. But under Wilmette’s gun ban, that firearm in the home was illegal.

DeMar confronted the criminal, and believing his children were in danger, shot the burglar, who then fled the home.

“Until you are shocked by a piercing alarm in the middle of the night and met in your kitchen by a masked invader as your children shudder in their beds, until you confront that very real nightmare, please don’t suggest that some village trustee knows better … “If my actions have spared only one family from the distress and trauma that this habitual criminal has caused hundreds of others, then I have served my civic duty and taken one evil creature off of our streets, something that our impotent criminal justice system had failed to do, despite some thirty odd arrests, plea bargains and suspended sentences.” The burglar, who was arrested after driving DeMar’s stolen SUV to a hospital, had an extensive criminal record.

Cook County prosecutors ultimately declared DeMar’s use of a firearm to be justified. But Wilmette village officials pressed nonetheless to prosecute him for illegal possession of his handgun–a charge punishable by a huge fine and jail time. A town official was quoted in Reason magazine saying, “We need to set the example that we’re trying to protect our citizens.” And he said, DeMar–by possessing a legally purchased handgun–”is endangering innocent civilians.” The outcry of the Illinois public was heard all the way to the state capitol.

As a result, the Illinois House and Senate passed legislation in May 2004 to protect citizens who use handguns in self-defense in their homes or businesses despite local handgun bans.

The House accepted the DeMar selfdefense bill by a vote of 86-25 and the Senate moved the legislation on a 38-20 vote.

And here lies the seminal moment for state Senator Barack Obama. When Obama turned thumbs down on the bill, he voted against the most basic element of the Second Amendment– the right of defense of self and family– the reason that millions of Americans own firearms.

When the governor vetoed the bill, Obama once again voted against a citizen’s right to self-defense.

Despite his vote, the veto override passed the Senate and the House by overwhelming majorities, thereby enacting this bill into law.

Now, fast forward to today’s slippery oratory of U.S. Sen. Barack Obama just three years from being an unknown state senator–now morphed by the media into a spellbinding u.s. senator seeking to be president of the United States.

Using words like “protecting sportsmen,” Obama is now saying that he believes in the Second Amendment … but with almost universal exceptions, all of which he lists under the heading of “common sense gun safety laws.” “Common sense gun safety” and the Second Amendment? Like endorsing the D.C. gun ban, which outlaws armed self-defense in the home–now being challenged before the u.s. Supreme Court. Obama, who as president would be in the position to nominate justices to that high court, has declared that the d.c. ban doesn’t violate the Second Amendment.

“Common sense gun safety” and the Second Amendment? In a “1998 National Political Awareness Test,” he pledged to support a “Ban [on] the sale or transfer of all forms of semi-automatic weapons”–meaning most handguns and many rifles and shotguns that you and I own.

“Common sense gun safety” and the Second Amendment? Like demanding that the federal government preempt the 40 hard-won state laws creating Right-to-Carry.

Here’s how the Chicago Tribune put it: “Obama said he opposed allowing ordinary citizens to carry concealed weapons and that a federal law banning concealed carried weapons except for law enforcement is needed.” “Common sense gun safety” and the Second Amendment? Like the draconian proposals funded to the tune of $18,000,000 by the rabidly anti-gun Joyce Foundation while Obama was an activist member of its board of directors.

Obama’s alleged support of the Second Amendment is utterly cynical and false. Barack Obama is not for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms; he`s out to destroy it.

One Thing Obama did in Chicago:

    http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2008/06/27/grim_proving_ground_for_obamas_housing_policy/?page=full

As a state senator, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee coauthored an Illinois law creating a new pool of tax credits for developers.

As a US senator, he pressed for increased federal subsidies. And as a presidential candidate, he has campaigned on a promise to create an Affordable Housing Trust Fund that could give developers an estimated $500 million a year.

But a Globe review found that thousands of apartments across Chicago that had been built with local, state, and federal subsidies – including several hundred in Obama’s former district – deteriorated so completely that they were no longer habitable.

**Grove Parc and several other prominent failures were developed and managed by Obama’s close friends and political supporters.

**Those people profited from the subsidies even as many of Obama’s constituents suffered. Tenants lost their homes; surrounding neighborhoods were blighted.

Some of the residents of Grove Parc say they are angry that Obama did not notice their plight. The development straddles the boundary of Obama’s state Senate district. Many of the tenants have been his constituents for more than a decade.

“No one should have to live like this, and no one did anything about it,” said Cynthia Ashley, who has lived at Grove Parc since 1994.

Don’t you just love the new McCain ad? He fought Republicans in Washington and Palin fought Republicans in Alaska. So what should you do? Vote for the Republican candidate for President! By all means he is inspiring Republicans and conservatives to vote for the guy and gal whom fight them!
How stupid do they think the American people are?

OKobserver it would be so nice if they were, but to listen to them there is nothing new. I am not kidding, I had great hopes for McCain in the beginning I really did for some time he was the only Republican candidate I could have voted for. But as McCain started showing signs he had turned to the dark side of the Party. I noticed Ron Paul and he turned out to be the only Republican whom was running.

Yes McCain and Palin are neo- Republicans with desires and thoughts that are far and away from the core believes that separated the Republicans and the Democratic. That separated the Republicans from the Socialist ideology. Republicans did not believe that because we were powerful that we should force the world to adopt our believes. They did not believe that we should be using our military like a trained attack dog and ordering them to attack whom ever does not agree with us.

The Republicans do not believe that a deficiency means nothing and as long as you can buy on credit you do not need to keep track of the purse strings. Republicans believe that the best way to cut a loss it to prevent it in the first place. Not to let it happen then hope that not too many fail because of it.

McCain and Palin are a new kind of Republican and God help the Party and this country for them being so!

It’s the Hegalian didactic at work — both sides trying to pull together 2 abstractly related sides against the other 2-3 sides — gives serious consideration of our 2 party systm a review — 2 parties could never possibly represent the cultures, ideals that our republic / democracy embraces \\

or as Richard Bach might say I could be wrong … but it is time for a change on how we allow our government / politic to function — reality is we the electorate have allowed ourselves to be manipulated by both parties ……… with a lot of thought and work we can change that

Fact check? Should include all of them don’t you think?

    http://www.newsweek.com/id/157986/page/1
Palin did not cut funding for special needs education in Alaska by 62 percent. She didn’t cut it at all. In fact, she tripled per-pupil funding over just three years.
According to an April 2008 article in Education Week, Palin signed legislation in March 2008 that would increase public school funding considerably, including special needs funding. It would increase spending on what Alaska calls “intensive needs” students (students with high-cost special requirements) from $26,900 per student in 2008 to $73,840 per student in 2011. That almost triples the per-student spending in three fiscal years. Palin’s original proposal, according to the Anchorage Daily News, would have increased funds slightly more, giving intensive needs students a $77,740 allotment by 2011.

Education Week: A second part of the measure raises spending for students with special needs to $73,840 in fiscal 2011, from the current $26,900 per student in fiscal 2008, according to the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development.
Unlike many other states, Alaska has relatively flush budget coffers, thanks to a rise in oil and gas revenues. Funding for schools will remain fairly level next year, however. Overall per-pupil funding across the state will rise by $100, to $5,480, in fiscal 2009. …

Carl Rose, the executive director of the Association of Alaska School Boards, praised the changes in funding for rural schools and students with special needs as a “historic event,” and said the finance overhaul would bring more stability to district budgets.

According to Eddy Jeans at the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development, funding for special needs and intensive needs students has increased every year since Palin entered office, from a total of $203 million in 2006 to a projected $276 million in 2009.

Those who claim that Palin cut special needs funding by 62 percent are looking in the wrong place and misinterpreting what they find there. They point to an apparent drop in the Department of Education and Early Development budget for special schools. But the special schools budget, despite the similar name, isn’t the special needs budget. “I don’t even consider the special schools component [part of] our special needs funding,” Jeans told FactCheck.org. “The special needs funding is provided through our public school funding formula. The special schools is simply a budget component where we have funding set aside for special projects,” such as the Alaska School for the Deaf and the Alaska Military Youth Academy. A different budget component, the Foundation Program, governs special needs programs in the public school system.

And in any case, the decrease in funding for special schools is illusory. Palin moved the Alaska Military Youth Academy’s ChalleNGe program, a residential military school program that teaches job and life skills to students under 20, out of the budget line for “special schools” and into its own line. This resulted in an apparent drop of more than $5 million in the special schools budget with no actual decrease in funding for the programs.

Kia — I dont care what Letter follows her name… could be XYZ for all I care…. and her attitudes toward SPED dont have anything to do with her religious views… at least not directly…. and as for her daughter, she should be off limits…. SO, we are left with the little stretches of truth…. like the bridge to nowhere…. which she supported, before she changed her mind…. and all the other policy stuff…. THAT is what makes me not like, or trust her…. So, cut the phony crap about her being a poor little ol’ republican, christian evangelical pentecostal, and all of that crap!! THOSE things have no bearing on my opinion of her politics….

SEE… un-like SOME on this Blog, I have NO problem keeping the Church separterd from the State, the way it is supposed to be… Her religion has little bearing on how she might govern…. UNLESS she tries to shove that religion down the throat of the rest of the nation!! THEN she will get me riled up…. So far, I have not seen that….

Your agreement to bogus Web links about Palin the past few days is the only proof I need.

Bogus web links? I’ve posted a link here and there, but I’m not so sure about how bogus they are. I don’t keep a record, and I haven’t posted a whole lot in the past few days. I’ve been working. If I see something interesting, I’ll post it. If you disagree, it’s your job to prove it wrong.

Piling on the bandwagon of false rumor appears to be a strong suit for you and your Lib female buddies.

False rumors, huh? The only thing I can think of at the moment was the rumor that Palin was headed back to Alaska last Thursday night. I saw the video of the network talking heads (don’t remember even who they were) and an article. Obviously, someone received erroneous information or the McCain-Palin team changed plans. Not my fault. I had two sources. How many do I need?

And I’ll also point out that I do try to mention that I don’t always know if something is true or not, but I’m passing it on. Anyone is welcome to dig a little deeper and prove it wrong. One such example I remember had to do with Babygate, and at the time I posted I was NOT convinced. But maybe you only read what you want to read in my posts and skip over the rest. That, my non-friend, is your problem, not mine.

I’ve seen out and out lies posted here by conservatives. I’ve seen smear jobs on liberals done by conservatives. I try really hard not to make politics personal. Maybe YOU and a few others should give that a try.

This entire campaign has been turned into nothing BUT rumors, but maybe keeping the republican VP wrapped in a cloak of mystery has something to do with that?

You wanna talk rumors, talk to Franklin.

If you think calling me a Liberal ranks up there with calling me a bitch, so be it. I take is as a compliment. As a Liberal, I’m very proud of having a strong sense of fair play.
