The suspense about whether Kansas’ governor might be the Democratic running mate is about over, if reports are true that Barack Obama could be announcing his choice as early as Wednesday. Gov. Kathleen Sebelius exhibited her usual discipline today when asked in Michigan about the veepstakes, saying only, “I think a week from tomorrow we will all know” who the candidate will be. (Well, obviously — that’s the running mate’s night at the convention.) RealClearPolitics thinks Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine may be suiting up. At today’s Eagle editorial board meeting, the board members in attendance offered their predictions: Randy Scholfield is sticking with Joe Biden. Richard Crowson said Sebelius. Mark McCormick said Sam Nunn. And I went with Evan Bayh.

Is Richardson out? Damn shame if he is.
Sam Nunn? It’s just bizarre enough to happen. It would remind me of the Progressive Insurance commercial where the girl says “surprise!”
It sure would be a surprise. A bad, bad, BAD surprise.
From ThinkProgress, 1/31/07:
“Note to Biden. Well-spoken black people hate it when white people call them “articulate.” It’s the modern-day version of what white people used to say back in the day when they thought that by saying “He’s a credit to his race” they were saying something that a black person would welcome hearing.
Those dated words, like Biden’s comments, were patronizing at the very least. And they also appeared to carry some pretty negative assumptions about the majority of the race.”
And I predict Obama has sealed his fate in losing the presidency he should have absolutely won.
Heh.
The “articulate” flap was perhaps the silliest case of feigned outrage I’ve ever seen. Where I come from, referring to anyone as “articulate” is a compliment. Only the professional race-baiters could turn it into a patronizing insult.
Whoever the VP is, the one thing we know is that it will NOT be Hillary.
Not going to even ask Senator Clinton?
That’ll cost him.
It may cost him the election. But hey he won the primary! That was as far as his strategy went.
Hey Barack? Go do a debate on Fox in front of the heritage foundation. As long as you are running to lose, do it big.
“And I predict Obama has sealed his fate in losing the presidency he should have absolutely won.”
Just now?
I called this race back in June.
It may cost him the election
The floor vote at the DNC will seal the loss.
Well ya know damn well it wont be Hillary because that is what the BASE wants. And we all know how fast obama is running AWAY from the base of the Democratic Party.
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/08/18/opinion/polls...
(CBS) Senator Hillary Clinton is by far the favorite choice for the number two spot on the Democratic ticket, according to a CBS News/New York Times poll of delegates to the Democratic convention. When asked who they would like Barack Obama to select, 28 percent volunteer her as their top choice for Vice Presidential nominee.
Six percent volunteer Delaware Senator Joe Biden, and four percent mention two other unsuccessful Democratic candidates: New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson and former North Carolina Senator John Edwards. Another 4 percent volunteer Indiana Senator Evan Bayh.
Other people mentioned by at least 2 percent of delegates as possible Obama running mates include retired General Wesley Clark, Virginia Governor Tim Kaine, Virginia Senator Jim Webb, and Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius.
-snip-
Most delegates (61 percent) think Clinton’s selection would help Obama’s chances of winning the general election in November. Nearly all of those originally pledged to Clinton say this. Far fewer of Obama’s pledged delegates see the benefit from naming her. Thirty-five percent of Obama’s pledged delegates think having Clinton’s name on the ticket would help Obama win in November, 23 percent of them say choosing her would hurt.
Nearly half the superdelegates interviewed did not offer a VP pick. Clinton led among those who did – 20 percent named her. But 10 percent selected Biden, four percent named Edwards, five percent chose Bayh and three percent volunteered Richardson.
By more than five to one, superdelegates think putting Clinton on the ticket would help Obama win the election: 56 percent say she would help, 11 percent say she would hurt Obama’s chances. The rest are undecided or don’t think her candidacy would affect his chances of victory in November.
There is little difference between men and women delegates when it comes to a vice presidential choice: 27 percent of men and 30 percent of women volunteer Clinton’s name. There is also little difference by age.”
What kind of a self loathing democrat runs AWAY from his party? That’s not running to the center, that’s running AWAY from “them that brung ya”.
^5 JR.
Not going to even ask Senator Clinton?
Nope. Not for real, anyway. There may be a staged offer and a suitably gracious turndown of the “offer,” but there will not be a real offer.
He doesn’t want her. She doesn’t really help him electorally; plus, he’d have to deal with Bill. No thanks.
Plus, JR, why would she want the job? She’s better off being a player in the Senate than spending 4-8 years attending meaningless events and funerals.
Haven’t you figured that out yet?
I am SURE she doesn’t want the job.
But there are steps to the dance. Obama continues to ignore them.
That’s gonna make HIM a wallflower come November.
This is what we get. When you have a candidate with 2 built in excuses if he loses…
(People didn’t vote for him because he is black! America is still a racist country!)
(It’s all Hillary’s fault!)
same candidate is free to do everything wrong without ever having to second guess.
Sigh….
So… I guess the majority of the delegates at the democratic convention are WRONG about who would be the best veep or help obama the most? Ok.
Maybe the majority of the delegates are wrong about who the nominee should be, if the party wants to win.
I can believe that, too!
Oh and by the way?
Democrats, liberals, progressives?
Friends?
This is by no means anything that I am wishing or hoping for. I HOPE I’m wrong.
I think.
But I haven’t been wrong so far.
But I haven’t been wrong so far.
Ever. About anything. Under any circumstances. Perfect. Batting 1000. On the mark.
He and Chas, in that regard, are soulmates.
Just ask them; they’ll tell ya so. And you can rely on them, oh-boy . . . .
General Colin Powell is the VP candidate.
Too much color you say?
Nope, the Dems are running a white and nerdy guy in the top spot.
My sentiment was notably addressed to friends there GMC.
So I wasn’t addressing you. Float away.
Well ya know damn well it wont be Hillary because that is what the BASE wants.
I think the question (and answer) should be what does Hillary want? Is it possible that she’s already given it a thumbs down? So much goes on behind the scenes, we–the base and everyone–are in the dark. In some respects, that’s good. In others, not so much.
Or maybe it will be a surprise and Hillary WILL be the one.
I agree pre-D. She will have a better power base in the Senate.
JR – We’re not friends? But I love everyone!
Even you. You make that incredibly hard, of course; you nurture your hate, bed it down at night, preen it and wear it on your sleeve as a mark of pride.
But I hold no grudges. It’s all about the love, baby!
Biden, Hillary, or Sebelius. Most likely Biden, to counter any perceived weakness on forein affairs.
Gmc, the only other person I could think of who has nvever made a mistake (or at least believes it) is bush).
I used to think it would be Sebelius, but on further reflection, that wouldn’t fly with Hillary, she wouldn’t want another rising star, especially a woman to contend with next time.
I don’t think Hillary wants #2 slot for herself, and will say that at the convention.
Collin Powell’s star has faded with everyone except the cons. so he wouldn’t be a good fit, but wouldn’t be surprised if he endorsed Obama as a little payback for his compromised integrity.
So that leaves me with Biden, for his foreign affairs expertise, or even Richardson, for the same reason.
Blame it on Russia, or rather Georgia.
Chuck Hegal.
Obama is no pansy–
From his VFW Speech today,
But one of the things that we have to change in this country is the idea that people can’t disagree without challenging each other’s character and patriotism. I have never suggested that Senator McCain picks his positions on national security based on politics or personal ambition. I have not suggested it because I believe that he genuinely wants to serve America’s national interest. Now, it’s time for him to acknowledge that I want to do the same.
Let me be clear: I will let no one question my love of this country. I love America, so do you, and so does John McCain. When I look out at this audience, I see people of different political views. You are Democrats and Republicans and Independents. But you all served together, and fought together, and bled together under the same proud flag. You did not serve a Red America or a Blue America — you served the United States of America.
So let’s have a serious debate, and let’s debate our disagreements on the merits of policy — not personal attacks. And no matter how heated it gets or what kind of campaign he chooses to run, I will honor Senator McCain’s service, just like I honor the service of every veteran in this room, and every American who has worn the uniform of the United States.
Kathy is a good centrist and might balance Obama domestically though Biden is the better choice.
There is always a chance that Hillary will steal the presidency from Obama she has the support of those in control of the Government at the moment. The Neoconservatives have two candidates in the running and they will be happy with either McCain or Clinton. Obama is not their choice and they are working hard to give it to either of their favorites.
Hagel’s name got brought up and he is a good choice but that would be too much change and Obama will have the same problem that McCain will have with Ridge or Lieberman.
I’m really worried that sebelius’ stock is rising. And now Biden says “I’m not the guy”? WTF? I wonder if it’s a head fake or if obama is going down “the list” and notifying people they are not the one? Sebelius seemed pretty smug today.
And no, I dont think Hillary wants the VP slot. I also think she’s better off in the Senate. Word on the underground is she will make that clear at the convention. But I still think it’s funny that the majority of the delegates think she would be the most help.
Anyway… here the current Intrade line.
“Intrade has Biden way way up now – at 50%. Bayh is sinking fast.

So Biden says he isn’t the one. That would have been my number 2 after Clinton. I think you’re right KFG. Obama is an absolute idiot to ignore us.
*gasp*
You don’t think Barack Hussein Obama has consulted this blog before making his final decision?
How utterly FOOLISH of him.
i expect him to listen to our voices in our polls. And he doesn’t.
Oooh, Oooh, let it be Biden! Please, please, please!
Biden, Biden, Biden!
PUHLEEEASE!
I’m sure that he would think it an honor to be the number two man behind the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy!
HEHEHE
Politicians who offer leadership based on polling data….
…are poor leaders.
Please DO let it be Biden.
The ticket needs a fighter who nows how to take on the con trash.
I found this post exceptionally wonderful. I can’t wait to other things you write!!
