Yes, even more science which supports the irrefutable fact of evolution.
‘Armored’ Fish Study Helps Strengthen Darwin’s Natural Selection Theory
ScienceDaily (Aug. 28, 2008) — Shedding some genetically induced excess baggage may have helped a tiny fish thrive in freshwater and outsize its marine ancestors, according to a UBC study published today in Science Express.
Measuring three to 10 centimetres long, stickleback fish originated in the ocean but began populating freshwater lakes and streams following the last ice age. Over the past 20,000 years – a relatively short time span in evolutionary terms – freshwater sticklebacks have lost their bony lateral plates, or “armour,” in these new environments.
“Scientists have identified a mutant form of a gene, or allele, that prohibits the growth of armour,” says UBC Zoology PhD candidate Rowan Barrett. Found in fewer than one per cent of marine sticklebacks, this allele is very common in freshwater populations.

Hank’s post yesterday in the open thread surprised me. I have been saying for some time the power grid in this country is outdated. Electricity is electricity, whether produced by wind, solar, nuclear or coal. Fully 30% of all electricity produced in this country is lost via transmission wire resistance. Adding any kind of new electrical sources chokes the system. So the post of Hank’s points out not just a problem hooking wind into the matrix, but all new energy inputs.
Which is why I think there should be a major push to develop a temperature stable superconductor. With such a grid, a thirty percent increase in power would do wonders. I know I, for one, don’t like paying 30% of my electric bill on heating the outside air.
Point being, Hank, regardless of what produces electricity, the system needs serious fixing. Trying to slam wind adds nothing to either the problem, or the solution.
Now this is playing dirty. Didn’t notice? Right.

A McCain ad aired on Fox News channel with the words “HANG” in the background along with a photograph of Barack Obama has sparked outrage after being noticed by a reporter at a local Fox television affiliate.
The words “HIGHER TAXES” are transposed on an image of Obama standing in front of a crowd. The background is blurred at the edges so that the words from Obama’s signature theme — change — has been cut down to the word “HANG.” The shot appears for about a second. You can watch the ad in its entirety below.
Asked about the image, the McCain camp said, “We’re not even validating such an outrageous and preposterous claim with a comment.”
Strikingly, the image of Obama with the word hang in the background is blurred far more heavily on the side where the C would have been, suggesting the decision was intentional. The company that produced the ad refused to comment when the local Fox affiliate inquired.
Not everyone is buying the claim the transposition is deliberate. Even at the liberal blog Daily Kos, an informal poll indicated 76 percent thought the image was deliberate, with 23 percent saying it was a coincidence.
“Is this a coincidence?” one diarist wrote. “People spend hours and hours editing political ads, I really don’t see how this could go unnoticed by the editors. Maybe they saw it and thought it wasn’t noticeable or maybe they thought it wasn’t important.”

Thirty Years of a Failed Democrat Energy Policy
By Alan Caruba
Millions will tune in to hear Sen. Barack Obama’s acceptance speech as the Democrat Party’s choice to be the next President of the United States. For Americans, the need to pay particular attention to his speech is essential if we are to escape thirty years of a failed Democrat energy policy.
From the days President Jimmy Carter installed solar panels on the roof of the White House and secured a windfall profit taxes on American oil companies, this nation has been made vulnerable to our enemies by emphasizing alternative energy and biofuels as the answer to our growing need for oil and electrical power.
The windfall profits tax led to the decline of the oil industry’s investments in oil exploration and extraction in the United States, and to their understandable reluctance to invest billions in the building of much needed refineries.
Congress, since 2006, has been controlled by Democrats as the majority party. In the Senate, Harry Reid, the Majority Leader, has said that “Oil makes us sick. Coal makes us sick. Global warming makes us sick.” This is such blatant nonsense that, were it spoken by anyone else, it would be easily dismissed. However, Sen. Reid controls the legislative agenda of the U.S. Senate! His counterpart in the House, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, has said that her job is to “save the planet.”
We should consider the total lack of any substantive legislation the Democrat Congress has produced in the two years they have been in control. We should consider the prospects if they are permitted to continue and their candidate should become President. For this reason alone we should listen closely to Sen. Obama.
Fact: Global warming was and is a hoax. Thousands of scientists worldwide have dismissed the false computer models on which it is based, but more importantly at this time is the fact that the Earth has been demonstrably cooling for at least a decade.
Even the venerable Farmer’s Almanac predicts “below average temperatures for most of the U.S.” The 192-year-old publication which claims an accurate rate of 80 to 85 percent for its forecasts, prepared two years in advance, says in its 2009 edition that at least two-thirds of the country can expect “colder-than-average temperatures this winter, with only the Far West and Southeast in line for near-normal readings.” “This is going to be catastrophic for millions of people,” said editor Peter Geiger.
I will tell you what also will be catastrophic: the election of Sen. Barack Obama and a Democrat Congress if their thirty years of attacks on the American oil industry continue, along with their thirty years of support for biofuels, ethanol, and so-called “alternative energy” or “clean energy.” As my friend, Seldon Graham, Jr., with fifty years’ experience as a petroleum engineer and attorney, says, “The U.S. needs to eliminate both ethanol and foreign oil. If it is worth fighting for in the Middle East, it is worth drilling for in the United States.”
You will not hear such straight talk from Sen. Obama and you have not heard it from the leadership of the Democrat Party. Instead you have heard the steady drumbeat of attacks on the American oil industry and the advocacy of failed energy policies that cost Americans millions at the gas pump and leave millions vulnerable to high costs when they heat their homes this winter.
Even Sen. McCain, who still believes the global warming hoax, has called for off-shore drilling. That is a small step in the right direction. A pragmatist, he will no doubt come to see the folly of further legislative programs to address a non-existent global warming threat, but it will be Sen. Obama’s energy policies that hold the greatest threat to the nation’s economy and future.

Oh, my – get a load of this news item:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,412661,00.html
Apparently languishing in his search for the real killers, poor little O.J. has been b–ch-slapped by his own daughter. And, shockeroo of all shockers – the COPS had to be summoned! Wow! Was Mark Furhman among ‘em?
Oh, wait – Fuhrman was disgraced – I forgot. He’s now an ex-cop-turned-crimewriter who actually helped bring the killer of Martha Moxley to justice.
Oh, my goodness – how do I love Orenthal James Simpson? Let me count the ways………
Is it that 1985 video I saw in 1995 – where the has-been NFL running back boasts of “rapin’ Nicole on their first date” while a sycophant giggles in the background? Gee, that might be part of it.
Was it the fact that he butchered two people and got away with it – while large numbers of the African-American commununity looked the other way? That’s a nice, big slice of the pie, too.
Was it the woeful testaments of more than a few jurors from the criminal trial that really, really turned me off? Was it Johnnie Cochran’s grandstanding and obfuscatin’ that curled my flesh? Yeah, that’s part of it, too.
But mostly, I just despise The Juice – a whole, awful lot. Laughin’ about rapin’ ain’t something even the most hardened criminals usually laugh about on camera.
Next time kick his a$$ while you’re at it, Arnelle. You obviously didn’t do a good enough job this time.
Where were the prayed for storms?
Where were the dittoheads that promised to wreak havoc on the Dem Convention?
Where are the McShame’s supporters (even with GIVING tickets away he can’t fill a few thousand seats)?
Good morning Mr Walker,
Grid losses aren’t nearly as high as you state. The grid is old and not up to the job of being able to utilize all of the ‘greenie’ energy sources but then a lot of that is due to problems caused by the ‘greenies’!
Grid losses are less than 10%.

CAPN IS A LIAR.
When he writes:
“I have Raptor on “ignore” these days.
If he wrote something about me, I wouldn’t have seen it.”
he is LYING. There is no “ignore” feature on this blog. Once again, proof positive that capn is nothing but a liar.
He makes outrageous statements, and throws a hissy fit when confronted for facts. Backing off with “I meant to say” etc., etc. Then he comes up with this nonsense. He can dish it out..but he sure canNOT take it.
CAPN IS A LIAR.
I had an interesting experience yesterday…one you occasionally read about online or in the paper, or hear about on TV. I was pumping gas at a local convenience store and realized that the price was set at $.359 per gallon. My question to all of you is this…What would you have done?
My answer later…
Raptor is a Bush whore.
that was really intelligent there, native. can’t handle the truth about your idol? What did I say to indicate any support of Bush whatsoever? I am making a true statement that capn is a liar. And that is all you have?
get a life you pathetic loser.
“KansasNative” asks –
“Where were the prayed for storms?”
I wondered about that for a moment, too.
When it turned out the weather was clear and bright, warm in the afternoon and cooler than lately when the sun went down, I wondered if perhaps God said the Fundies’ prayers for torrents of flood and lightning abomination against the heathen Democrats might be over the top.
God answered the twice-borns’ prayers: He said, “No. I may be omnipotent, but there are limits!”
“Where were the dittoheads that promised to wreak havoc on the Dem Convention?”
I think they comprised the four meth heads who were arrested in Aurora last Monday. Or, as Limbaugh calls ‘em, “My base.”
“Where are the McShame’s supporters (even with GIVING tickets away he can’t fill a few thousand seats)?”
I think it was “Franklin” who declared that it’s no feat to attract an 80,000+ crowd. So I’m expecting similar numbers to show up in Minnesota next week to see
DorfJohn S (for Senile) McCain the Third (for Shrub’s 3rd term) attract millions to his acceptance speech.I’ll even let him salt the act with McC*nt’s favorite rock stars. Maybe ABBA will get back together again. Maybe Ken Greenwood will get back together agains! And consent to sing a medley of his hit!
No CON or Republic Party partisan has anything positive to say about McBush.
i>”What does it say about your judgment if you think George WMD Bush has been right 90% of the time?”
Happy 72nd Birthday, Senator McBush. Just think: when your daddy was your age he’d been dead for a couple of years.
HEHEHEHE
It looks like McCain is going to hit a home run with his pick for VP.
Rumor has it that it will be Sarah Palin, governor of Alaska!
hahahahahah
WOW! Grand slam! Working class background, knowledgeable in oil/energy issues, ability to work with both parties, smart, fiscally responsible. Hope it is true….would be absolutely awesome!

From an email…
Dear Friend,
As it stands now, Bob Barr is the Lone Candidate in the Lone Star State.
As the filing deadline passed this week, Bob Barr was the only presidential candidate legally certified on the ballot in Texas.
The new Texas law is clear:
A political party is entitled to have the names of its nominees for president and vice-president of the United States placed on the ballot in a presidential general election if . . . before 5 p.m. of the 70th day before presidential election day, the party’s state chair signs and delivers to the secretary of state a written certification of the names of the party’s nominees for president and vice-president . . .
Given that the deadline passed on Tuesday, Senator Obama was nominated on Wednesday, and Senator McCain has not even announced his selection for Vice President, the Republican and Democrat parties in Texas were technically unable to certify their candidates by the deadline.
However, I have a sneaking suspicion that the ballot situation in Texas will magically correct itself.
Since we sent out our release yesterday regarding Bob being the only presidential candidate certified in Texas, a spokeswoman for the Texas Secretary of State’s office stated that, “Upon further checking, both parties filed before the deadline. We expect their amended filings after both parties finish their nominating process at the conventions.”
Upon further checking . . .
Hmmm . . .
As it turns out, upon further checking , we were able to collect 10,000 more signatures in West Virginia a few days after that early deadline passed.
Upon further checking, we found that ballot substitution is permitted in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.
Also, upon further checking, we found that Maine stopped accepting our petitions a week earlier than they had done in the past.
Not to mention that, upon further checking, we do object to the state of New Hampshire insisting that two libertarian candidates for president be listed on the ballot.
Finally, upon further checking, we found that the signature thresholds in Oklahoma are a bit too high.
Will our diligence pay off for us in West Virginia, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Maine and Oklahoma where we have active interests?
Do you think that John McCain and Barack Obama’s names will eventually be printed on the ballot in Texas?
I would be willing to make an educated guess and say that we’re going to have to fight our hearts out to get on the ballot in the states above while the Republican and Democrat candidates won’t have to lift a finger to secure their place on the Texas ballot.
This lies in stark contrast to what the media is trying to feed us ! ! !
Your Social Security BUD.
Just in case some of you young whippersnappers (and some older ones) didn’t know this, it’s easy to check out, if you don’t believe it. Be sure to show it to your kids. They need a little history lesson on what’s what.
And it doesn’t matter whether you are Democrat or Republican. Facts are Facts!!!
Our Social Security
Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social
Security (FICA) Program. He promised:
1.) That participation in the program would be completely voluntary
2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into the program
3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year
4.) That the money the participants paid would be put into the ‘Independent Trust Fund’ rather than into the
General Operating Fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security retirement program, and no other government program, and
5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.
Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month — and then find that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the federal government to ‘put away’–you may be interested in the following.
————————————————————-
Q:
Which political party took Social Security from the Independent Trust Fund and put it into the general fund so that Congress could spend it?
A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democrat- controlled House and Senate.
——————————————————– ————
Q:
Which political party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?
A: The Democratic Party.
———————————————————————–
Q:
Which political party started taxing Social Security annuities?
A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the tie-breaking deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the US
——————————————————————-
AND MY FAVORITE:
Q: Which political party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants?
A: That’s right!
Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it!
———————————————— ———————-
Then, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away!
And the worst part about it is–uninformed citizens believe it! If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe changes will evolve. Maybe
not. Some Democrats are awfully sure of what isn’t so.
But it’s worth a try. How many people can YOU send this to?
Actions speak louder than bumper stickers.
AND CONGRESS GIVES THEMSELVES 100% RETIREMENT FOR ONLY SERVING ONE TERM!!!
A government big enough to give you everything you want is strong enough to take everything you have.
Thomas Jefferson
Palin would be an interesting choice.
Had to go to Wiki though, didn’t know much about her.
Details of Palin’s personal life have contributed to her political image. She hunts, eats moose burgers, ice fishes, rides snowmobiles, and owns a float plane.[6][7] Palin holds a lifetime membership with the National Rifle Association
Evidently, she was nicknamed Sarah “Barracuda” because of her intense play as a point guard on her State Champion basketball team.
Good looking too. :D
It’s OK Annie Moose, we’ve got your back and you won’t be made into a burger!
won’t be made into a burger!
LMAO. Good 1

Yes, the Pukes will have to pick a relative unknown, because everyone with experience has too much negative baggage.
Hum, another upstanding liberal commentator.

Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker sentenced Ward to seven years and three months in federal prison, calling the disgraced celebrity a “troubled individual”
Oh. So McCain is going to “pick” Gov. Palin of Alaska? I see.
After last night’s total destruction, the stink of death is all over John McCain. Romney, Pawlenty, and Lieberman–I’d lay money that all of them withdrew their names from consideration. They want to have careers once the Obama landslide buries John McCain.

Yep, the greenies snuck out at night and changed the conductivity of metals. Them greenies.
Funny he picked the Gov of Alaska. More Alaskans voted for Ron Paul than McCain…
Box…say is isn’t so? A LIB is a convicted criminal?? Man, reading the posts here, you would have to assume that is simply NOT POSSIBLE!

I don’t follow. What do you mean?
Sol, he told us he was going to Florida to care for his Dad and I think would return shortly before the election. Probably doing what needs to be done and will return when it’s possible.
BTW, do you have a throw-away email, Sol?
He’s in Florida
Thanx.
There won’t be an Obama landslide. He’s fighting a 15 to 30 percent race penalty among whites.

To gather up the Ron Paul supporters I suppose?
Well, I thought the ‘crats put on a pretty good show. But this process is kind of like a civil trial. The plaintiff goes first and presents their best case. Now they have to set back and watch the other side put on their evidence.
The ‘crats biggest problem is their fluffy, cotton candy candidate. Let’s hope that that can be pounded home.
Still, it was good to see a black family up on that podium last night. That alone, was the greatest statement the Democrats could have possibly made to me about their philosphy. It looks like the Pukes may counter with Annie Oakley. God, I love and hate this country.

To gather up the Ron Paul supporters I suppose?
Couldn’t be farther from the truth. McCain stepped on it by not reaching out to the Paul supporters. Don’t even know if that would have helped.
maybe 1/4 to 1/8 the size of the Clinton supporters, we were thrown under the bus as well. At leaset Obama had the sense to reach out to the Clinton supporters.
First question: Should a VP be qualified to step into the office of President? Then, is a fluffy cotton female candidate not such a problem? After all she does eat moose burgers and hunts and is good lookin’.
“A federal grand jury returned a three-count indictment against U.S. District Court Judge Samuel B. Kent, 59, for abusive sexual contact and attempted aggravated sexual abuse.” — http://abcnews.go.com/TheLaw/FedCrimes/story?id=5681319&page=1
The judge was a Bush appointee. Who’d have thought a Bush appointee would try to force his employees into giving blowjobs?
Just a reminder that sexual offenses are non-partisan.
The VP question is quite valid. McCain is old and worn. The presidency is hard on a body. He could kick off.
You have to see the reality of an Obama assasination. There are people out there just dumb and of kilter enough to do it.
Don’t know much about Biden, but Palin has done a pretty decent job in Alaska and is well liked.
She was over 12 years old…amazing!
The Repugnants should give him a medal!
Oh come on Predestined, you’re just too easy now.
You know that was intended as a joke, especially after the questioning I gave him earlier.
You Dems need to lighten up and laugh more.
It was late when I was able to get back to this, and I admit I’ve forgotten what the first to sentences above are in reference to, but the last?
Laugh more? Hee hee I had been and still am laughing. I love the smell of panic from the right. I love that we on the left have not one, but a plethora of people who can speak the truth and speak it well enough for others to understand it clearly. I love that we don’t have to stoop to throwing around the absurdity that people like Franklin do, just to get a little attention.
In short, laughter is good for the soul, and my soul is doing just fine. :)

Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent “Trust” fund and put it into the General fund so that Congress could spend it?
A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democratically-controlled House and Senate.
Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?
A: The Democratic Party.
Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities?
A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the “tie-breaking” deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the U.S.
Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants?
MY FAVORITE :
A: That’s right! Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive SSI Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it!
Then, after doing all this lying and thieving and violation of the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away!
And the worst part about it is, uninformed citizens believe it!
Perhaps you need to check closer yourself, and stop with the false defense of the Democrats lies.
Cap’N,
Indeed. I’m not much of one for speculating who does and doesn’t pick up new posting nics, but the inability to use the plural form of “leftist” was the tell: welcome back, Joe Williams.

From Capn’s note, you’d have to conclude that high taxes equal prosperity. The ‘crats think like that.
Of course it is recognized idiocy to isolate a couple of facts and conclude that there is a cause and effect relationship.
““But the Rich get richer, because they keep on doing the things that make the rich. The poor get poorer, because they keep on doing the things that make them poor. And the so called, people who are doing okay (gov term, middle class) keep on doing the things that make them okay.”

Sarah Palin evidently leaned on the Alaska Department of Public Safety to fire a state trooper–not just any state trooper, but a former brother-in-law who was involved in a nasty custody fight with Palin’s sister.
“AK Gov. Says Staffer Pressed for Trooper’s Firing
By Kate Klonick – August 13, 2008, 9:53PM
In a press conference this afternoon, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) conceded that someone inside her administration pressured the state’s Department of Public Safety to fire State Trooper Mike Wooten, Palin’s former brother-in-law, who is now embroiled in a bitter custody battle with Palin’s sister.
Palin’s statement is the latest in what has come to be known around Alaska as “Wooten-gate.” The scandal began on July 11, when Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan was fired from his post with little explanation, a move that quickly raised questions in Alaska.
A few days later, Monegan came forward, stating that he had been pressured by those around Palin to fire Wooten — but had refused to do so — a choice that he believes led to his sudden dismissal. Palin denied Monegan’s accusations, and a Legislative Council has appointed a special commission to probe the matter.
In today’s conference, Palin said that state troopers had taped a phone call from Frank Bailey, Palin’s director of boards and commissions whom she appointed last August, in which Bailey inquired about having Wooten fired.
At the press conference today, Palin distanced herself from Bailey’s actions claiming that he acted alone, but the recordings suggest that he was acting at her instigation.”

I think Vice-President Palin’s misuse of her office and the Alaska justice system shows that she’ll fit right in with a Republican Administration.

I think Palin is purdy….But seriously, I think it is a good choice, maybe not the best choice. But we will see.
I wonder if McCain thinks that by picking a female VP he will get the Clinton supporters backing. Kinda doubt they are going to throw their support for the first female they see.

Worthless Computer Models
In his interview, Dyson points out from long experience that models packed with numerous “fudge factors” are worthless.
As a mathematician and physicist, Dyson is known for the unification of three versions of quantum electrodynamics, as well as for contributions to space flight and the development of a safe nuclear reactor used today by hospitals and universities around the world. But today he is known more widely as a scientific heretic for disagreeing with claims of a central human role in global warming.
In his 2005 winter commencement address at the University of Michigan, Dyson said the mathematical computer models on which the alarmist claims are based “do a very poor job of describing the clouds, the dust, the chemistry, and the biology of fields, farms, and forests. They do not begin to describe the real world that we live in.”

Solar Influence Ignored
In Solomon’s interview with Friis-Christensen, the scientist states he was originally optimistic about the work IPCC would do in studying the sun’s influence on climate change. To his surprise, however, IPCC refused to consider the sun’s effect on the Earth’s climate as a topic worthy of investigation. IPCC conceived its task only as investigating potential human causes of climate change.
That is a huge omission, Abdussamatov points out. He notes there has been global warming on other planets and moons in the solar system, and this demonstrates other forces may be at work regarding the Earth’s moderate recent warming. “Mars has global warming, but without a greenhouse and without the participation of Martians,” he observes.
Abdussamatov, at the pinnacle of Russia’s scientific establishment, is one of the world’s most eminent critics of the notion carbon dioxide is driving global warming. He argues these “parallel global-warmings observed simultaneously on Mars and on Earth–can only be a straight line consequence of the effect of the one same factor: a long-time change in solar irradiance.”
http://www.heartland.org/Article.cfm?artId=23701
Cooling Coming Soon
Abdussamatov believes the recent global warming will be short-lived and that we are actually on the brink of a global cooling, and likely a severe one. He argues Earth has hit its temperature ceiling, demonstrated by cooling currently occurring in the upper layers of the world’s oceans.
In addition, Abddussamatov notes, solar irradiance has begun to fall, likely ushering in a protracted cooling period beginning in 2012-2015.
The lowest depth of the solar irradiance reaching Earth will occur around 2041 (plus or minus 11 years), Abdussamatov estimates, and will inevitably lead to a deep freeze around 2055-60. The freeze will last into the twenty-second century before temperatures rise again. For now, he says, “we continue to bask in the remains of heat that the planet accumulated over the twentieth century.”

Palin was a star at a young age in Alaska — a member of the Wasilla basketball team that won the state championship (her aggressive style won her the nickname “Sarah Barracuda”) in 1982 and Miss Wasilla two years later.
Palin’s political career began a decade later when she was elected to the Wasilla City Council and, four years after that, in 1996, she won the mayorship — knocking off the incumbent by just a handful of votes.”

Snowpack Study Shows No Long-Term Climate Change Signal
By Phyllis Fletcher, KUOW News
A new study from the University of Washington indicates that climate change may not be the reason snowpack is shrinking in the Cascade Mountains. The finding is in contrast with science and policy that have dominated the discussion of snowpack, flood, and water resources.
The new study is authored by several atmospheric scientists, including KUOW regular Cliff Mass. Mass says the amount of snowpack has not changed appreciably in the last 30 years. He and his colleagues argue that much of the change in the last century could be attributed to a weather pattern that has nothing to do with global warming caused by human activity.

“Palin is a mother of five — including a newborn with special needs — which led many people to speculate that she would not ultimately be the pick. During an interview with washingtonpost.com earlier this year in Washington, Palin said being picked as the vice president was an “impossibility” but that the idea of serving in national office intrigued her.”
One always needs a Vice President that loves to shoot and hunt.

Weekly Standard wrote: “She resigned in January 2004 as head of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission after complaining to the office of Governor Frank Murkowski and to state Attorney General Gregg Renkes about ethical violations by another commissioner, Randy Ruedrich, who was also Republican state chairman. State law barred Palin from speaking out publicly about ethical violations and corruption. But she was vindicated later in 2004 when Ruedrich, who’d been reconfirmed as state chairman, agreed to pay a $12,000 fine for breaking state ethics laws. She became a hero in the eyes of the public and the press, and the bane of Republican leaders.”

Well, please. I thought Obama sounded a bit too much like Martin Luther King mixed with Lyndon Johnson. I’ll vote for him of course. May my hand be cut off if I ever use it to vote for a Republican. Obama, of course, is a good speaker, but the salient points of his speech were mixed with faux-patriotism and slogans. America didn’t promise me anything, thank you, though I got a hell of a break by being born here.
We don’t know what we will get with Obama. If the public record, and the media glitz contain a kernel of truth, he’ll probably be a leader who places logic and good sense over partisanship. Some of the things he says simply escape notice, though they are revolutionary in concept. Obama plans to make his health care plan work by making us healthy. If you think Big Brother bothers you now, wait for the publically sponsored propaganda under Obama concerning our health choices. But every million he spends on it will reap tens of millions in reduced health care costs.
It’s the same philosophy he has in regard to conservation. The barrel of oil not used is more effective in weaning us from foreign oil, than the barrel locally produced. “Make yourself lean, make yourself efficient,” that’s his message. That’s the way out of the crisis. That’s the change he seeks. Can he do it? Probably not. Can you do it? Probably not. Can I do it? Probably not, but I’m trying.
What he says is so irreducibly true anybody can see it. And the Pukes, what do they have to throw against it? Bullshit about a Weatherman’s activity when Obama was eight. Crap about an imaginary Arab lineage, when his dad was as black as a coal train, and his mom was whiter than Cindy McCain, Horror stories about how he skipped voting for a Republican-sponsored bill which would have allowed employers to euthanize their workers and sell their organs. What they should worry about is government-sponsored health clubs, and vegetable cooking seminars.
Yes, they do have a couple of advantages. The white vote, and the legitimate concern that Obama is not experienced enough to be President.
But we know what McCain would do. More bluster, more bullshit, more braggadocio, designed, it seems, to push us toward some war or another.
I’ll take my chances with the unknown.

A lot of my posts are vain attempts to bring some reality to the ridiculous claims made here without backup/fact or any type of validation. Some of the outright hatred based on political thought is unbelievable.
The people who claim how all people who believe one way are horrid murderers or how all people who vote one way are mindless criminals just do not make any sense. I have stated more than once that I do not believe either party is “better” or commands a higher moral ground than the other, that both schools of political thought have their share of reprehensible and admirable people in them.
I do counter the lib attack mode more often, because it seems to me that the most extreme attacks come from that quarter. Examples abound…how “all CONs follow their master Rush” or the use of juvenile variations, “pukes” to describe a party are simply that, juvenile.
So..my politics? I don’t see anyone worth voting for in November.

Palin, the first Alaskan governor born after statehood, was actually born and raised in Sandpoint, Idaho. She is the mother of five (see family photo below) and is married to a native Alaskan, Todd Palin, who is a seasonal fisherman and an oil field worker offseason. He races snowmobiles on vacation.
The governor is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Assn., an ardent hunter and outdoorswoman (her family has its own float plane) and is a sure bet to please the antiabortion wing of the Republican Party.
When prenatal genetic testing of their fifth child showed he had Down syndrome last spring, the couple went ahead with the birth in May and now talk of him as the joy of their life.

“Simultaneous warming on Earth and Mars suggests that our planet’s recent climate changes have a natural—and not a human-induced—cause, according to one scientist’s controversial theory.
Earth is currently experiencing rapid warming, which the vast majority of climate scientists says is due to humans pumping huge amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. (Get an overview: “Global Warming Fast Facts”.)
…
Abdussamatov’s work, however, has not been well received by other climate scientists.
“His views are completely at odds with the mainstream scientific opinion,” said Colin Wilson, a planetary physicist at England’s Oxford University.
“And they contradict the extensive evidence presented in the most recent IPCC [Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change] report.” (Related: “Global Warming ‘Very Likely’ Caused by Humans, World Climate Experts Say” [February 2, 2007].)
Amato Evan, a climate scientist at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, added that “the idea just isn’t supported by the theory or by the observations.” “

“Conclusion
The empirical evidence isn’t conclusive on whether global warming is happening on Mars.
However, to answer the question on whether the sun is causing Earth’s global warming, there is plentiful data on solar activity and Earth’s climate. Many papers have examined this data, concluding the correlation between sun and climate ended in the 70’s when the modern global warming trend began.”

Now cosmos, do you really want me to drag out all the lies the IPCC put into its last draft report?
Well, it looks like McCain wants to win after all. How it must suck to be a dem right now. You’re stuck with Joe Biden. Can we all say LOSER.
Twelve hours after that awful spectacle in Denver last night, McCain totally blows Obama off the air with his bold awesome pick of Sarah Palin as his VP. Never saw that one coming did you? Good looking, pro life , pro gun, opposes gay marriage, wants to drill ANWAR, brought a law suit against the Feds to block an attempt to declare the polar bear endangered as a way of blocking drilling in Alaska. And contrary to what you said earlier Linda, a lot of women just wanted to vote for a women not necessarily because they loved Hillary. Sarah Palin will do just fine for them.
Palin is a woman who likes to kick the ladder down after women after her.
Any links?
It will be interesting to see what Obama’s numbers do after Mcain’s VP pick. I think it very well could damage his post convention bounce. I think Mcain was very shrewd in announcing his pick the day after the Dem convention.
“When prenatal genetic testing of their fifth child showed he had Down syndrome last spring, the couple went ahead with the birth in May and now talk of him as the joy of their life. ” — Ms. Inks.
Now why do you suppose they had prenatal genetic testing done? Because if they child had turned out to be a hopless genetic sport, or was doomed in the womb to death, she would have had an abortion! Thre’s no other reason to do it.
That would be an interesting statistic. What percentage of pro-lifers have genetic tests prior to birth?
Beber you know this as a fact because?
SolDevVB,
The IPCC did not “ignore” solar activity.
http://www.skepticalscience.com/solar-activity-sunspots-global-warming.htm
“The most commonly cited study by skeptics is a study by scientists from Finland and Germany that finds the sun has been more active in the last 60 years than anytime in the past 1150 years (Usoskin 2005). They also found temperatures closely correlate to solar activity.
However, a crucial finding of the study was the correlation between solar activity and temperature ended around 1975. At that point, temperatures rose while solar activity stayed level. This led them to conclude “during these last 30 years the solar total irradiance, solar UV irradiance and cosmic ray flux has not shown any significant secular trend, so that at least this most recent warming episode must have another source.”
…
Other studies on solar influence on climate
This conclusion is confirmed by many studies quantifying the amount of solar influence in recent global warming:
Solanki 2008 reconstructs 11,400 years of sunspot numbers using radiocarbon concentrations, finding “solar variability is unlikely to have been the dominant cause of the strong warming during the past three decades”.
* Ammann 2007: “Although solar and volcanic effects appear to dominate most of the slow climate variations within the past thousand years, the impacts of greenhouse gases have dominated since the second half of the last century.”
* Lockwood 2007 concludes “the observed rapid rise in global mean temperatures seen after 1985 cannot be ascribed to solar variability, whichever of the mechanism is invoked and no matter how much the solar variation is amplified.”
* Foukal 2006 concludes “The variations measured from spacecraft since 1978 are too small to have contributed appreciably to accelerated global warming over the past 30 years.”
* Scafetta 2006 says “since 1975 global warming has occurred much faster than could be reasonably expected from the sun alone.”
* Usoskin 2005 conclude “during these last 30 years the solar total irradiance, solar UV irradiance and cosmic ray flux has not shown any significant secular trend, so that at least this most recent warming episode must have another source.”
* Haigh 2003 says “Observational data suggest that the Sun has influenced temperatures on decadal, centennial and millennial time-scales, but radiative forcing considerations and the results of energy-balance models and general circulation models suggest that the warming during the latter part of the 20th century cannot be ascribed entirely to solar effects.”
* Stott 2003 increased climate model sensitivity to solar forcing and still found “most warming over the last 50 yr is likely to have been caused by increases in greenhouse gases.”
* Solanki 2003 concludes “the Sun has contributed less than 30% of the global warming since 1970″.
* Lean 1999 concludes “it is unlikely that Sun–climate relationships can account for much of the warming since 1970″.
* Waple 1999 finds “little evidence to suggest that changes in irradiance are having a large impact on the current warming trend.”
* Frolich 1998 concludes “solar radiative output trends contributed little of the 0.2°C increase in the global mean surface temperature in the past decade”
Chris, it might make the race a little more interesting however, do you really think this woman has what it takes to be President? Nobody even knew her. We’re talking about an OLD old man running- so that’s a real possibility.

Did a little research: Perhaps Ms. Palin isn’t a lead pipe cinch to be the poster-child for the right to lifers. Seems there’s a hot debate among them over prenatal genetic testing or even the testing of embryos to be implanted. By even having the testing Ms. Palin may have alienated the pro-life crowd.
And more ironic still, even though she elected to give birth to a Downs Syndrome child, many advocates for the disabled will condemn her for the testing. It seems they feel pre-natal genetic testing is discriminatory.

“To bad they don’t have a space marked none of the above on the ballot.” [Freebird1971]
Actually, I have learned that an independtnt group has applied to have one, Noneof Above, a US Born but family ties to Russian/French parents, placed on the ballot in at least 35 states for November.
The candidate, whose name is pronounced Nonov Abovey, was born in King of Prussia, PA, and raised in Paris, NY….
He has many years of service, having been in print millions of times in his lifetime. He is not affected by age, gender, or national origin; or by religious preference.
The Independent Group, Anonymous–Anonymous, was founded by A. Sy Nonym, long before it was popular to be Independent.

It’s not my fault that you cannot understand basic climate science.
It’s not my fault you are a blind Gore shill worshiping at the feet of the lying IPCC.
Hard to face facts when your religion betrays you.
Your graphs from your ‘many answers’ conveniently stop in 1998, as did global warming.
And you still can’t answer why CO2 is the highest in recorded history and the temperatures are falling. If the CO2 is so massively high, why isn’t every year hotter than the last? In actuality, temps are falling.
very funny, you had me there for a minute.

How does that make her anti-fem?
What worries me is we have one candidate who would be afraid to use our military power and another would be too eager to use it. There has to be a balance somewhere

You got that right. Worshiping at the feet of the lying IPCC and Gore? How much more stupid can you be?
And can’t even explain why CO2 is off the chart and temps are falling? Pretty stupid I’d say.
She’s no feminist because she believes in closing the doors to women’s rights. It makes me sick that she would even try to claim the name ‘feminist’.
She’s a hypocrite.
JUST IN —-
Ind. Candidate Nonov Abovey, has just announced the choice of his running mate for the November elections. This gentleman, while a bit elderly, has been widely traveled, and his presence has been seen in many places.
Some have been so impressed with him that his name has been carved in to walls, and trees, and even spray painted on a variety of structures.
At present, he is in an undisclosed location, but you will know his name (only one name — like numerous other “stars”) for you have no doubt seen it >>>>
The Ind. VP candidate is: KILROY!!
Thank you for your continued interest.

Appears to me, Governor Palin is at the top of the food chain for feminists. She’s independent and can walk the talk, unlike many of the mouths that just talk and can’t walk.
So, before you go describing what a feminist means, perhaps you should re-examine what it means to be a feminist and a woman.
Freebird — My silence indicates nothing of that sort at all… Paranoia is not a part of that Step. Check the book again.
Check the book again.
What a dick!
Yes, Freebird, what Raptor said….
Sorry I’m learning. Character defect you know
Sol, it is important that Freebird understane the meaning of the Step, as well as expressing its intent.
And before you try lecturing me on AA, please be aware that I have worked with AA programs for more than 30 years.
Not a problem, Freebird… and not a character defect… It is a disease… and much of it is between You and your Higher Power. :-)
SolDevVB,
WHY are you unable to understand that CO2 is NOT the only forcing? Are you stupid?
Volcanoes, aerosols (such as from coal-fired power plants), La Ninas, cool phases of the PDO, solar minimums, and other factors cause cooling.
In the other direction, El Ninos can add to the AGW warming trend, like it did in 1998.
Oh yea, and Learning is a life-long adventure!
P-mom:
So she’s no “feminist” because her life choices are different than yours?
Wow. How open of you. How accepting of you. Uh-huh.
Yours party CLAIMS to be the party of tolerance of differences, right? SO you say? Turns out the claim is just that – a claim. When it matters, that claim is just so much caribou-dung.
In fact, it is the usual “tolerance” for everything except what matters: differences of opinion.
Careful. Your hypocricy is showing. Badly.
WHY are you unable to understand that CO2 is NOT the only forcing? Are you stupid?
Stupid? Nah, I don’t blindly follow the lying IPCC and Gore.
I am smart enough to see that CO2 and temps are exponentially out of sync. Ergo, CO2 is far from the boogey man you purport.
Volcanoes
LMFAO. You dense bastard!!! You tried to slam Ron Paul with volcanoes and here is your stupid ass pointing at them.
Too freakin rich. LMFAO.
What a joke shill you are cosmos.

I told you so and here I am again, telling you again.
You’re a Goracle follower cosmos – hopeless and blind to real climate science.
No not just because she is anti-choice. She’s anti woman because of her anti- birth control. Her belief that women belong in the home. Her belief that women should not have their rights written into the constitution.
Women who do this are hypocrites. They want the power and the glory for themselves- but believe that ‘regular’ women should not.
Her belief that women belong in the home.
That is a lie. She is proof of that lie.
She’s anti woman because of her anti- birth control.
Can you post a link where she denounces condums or birth control pills?
Her belief that women should not have their rights written into the constitution.
Do you have a link to this?
No more worries about global warming…Sarah will just start up her snow “machine” and everything will be just fine.
Boxlock posted the following–The Snopes analysis is in italics.
Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised that
1. That participation in the program would be completely voluntary
Snopes says, “there was no provision in the Social Security Act of 1935 nor has there ever been for the payment of social security payroll taxes to be voluntary.”
2. That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into the program
Snopes says, “Social Security taxes were never limited to the first 1,400 of annual income,” and says in fact that the first 3,000 of income were taxed in year one of the program.”
3. That the money the participants elected to put into the program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year
Snopes says that the Social Security Act expressly forbids that payments would be deductible.
4. That the money the participants paid would be put into the ‘Independent Trust Fund’ rather than into the General Operating Fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security retirement program, and no other government program, and
Snopes says that the Social Security Fund was established in 1939 managed by the Dept of Treasury. They have never been part of the “general operating fund.”
5. That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.
Snopes say this was never a promise. Until 1984, the Treasury Dept. determined that SS income would not be taxed for income. In 1983, the Greenspan Commission determined that some SS income should be taxed depending on total income of the recepient. Greenspan was appointed by Reagan. This recommendation was passed by a bi-partisan vote in Congress and signed into law by Reagan.”

Yup, and you’re back to your 1998 graphs. How many times are you going to drag that dead horse out to beat?
Or are you trying to prove that global warming did indeed stop in 1998.
Good on ya cosmos. It is a good thing to get a dose of reality once in a while. Don’t let Gore catch ya though.

You love to hurl ’stupid’ don’t you?
You seem to be too stupid to understand that CO2 levels are exponentially higher than the temp.
DUH!!!
CO2 is a straw man. But it seems to be the only way Gore and the lying IPCC can make a huge transference of wealth. I mean how are you going to tax cow farts?

And it’s really none of my business (but as a 20+ year member of an anonymous fellowship for people who love and are related to alcoholics, I get a free pass; Al-Anons don’t give out chips because we never have made it to 30 days of serenity) I’ve had a bit of concern for “Freebird1971’s” recovery.
“Freebird1971,” congratulations!
But you’re way early in the process and you’re going through the high most newly-recovering drunks tend to experience. You’re feeling good, even euphoric about your recovery.
But this isn’t the time to go out and share your newly re-found on issues that have nothing to do with your recovery.
Politics? WE Blog? They don’t matter a whit. “So she’s [the GILF] no “feminist” because her life choices are different than yours?”
No. It’s because she lives a CON lie.
Like Phylis Schafley who, in practice, is a mainline feminist. She saw an employment opportunity, created a cottage industry based precisely on a lifestyle she rejected for herself.
Schafley’s anti-gay agenda was severely threatened a few years ago when he son came out of the closet. So Schafley rejected her son rather than change her business model.
So we’ve got the former mayor of a town the size of Hoxie who got elected GILF with the endorsement of Ted “InterTubes” Stevens two years ago; a petty politician who got her brother-in-law fired to help her sister’s alimony lawsuit; whose heart flutters when she just thinks about that massive snow machine between his legs…
… and all I want to ask John S (for Senile) McCain the Third (for Shrub’s 3rd term) is: “On what issues do you think your Vice-Presidential pick might be able to change your opinion?”
The GILF is Dan Quayle in a skirt.
Monkey: Securing Alaska is a yawn. Securing the “drill” vote is a yawn. Securing the anti-abortion vote is a yawn.

Russo Marsh and Rogers have been implicated in running known false political ads and are the founders of the organization. Their spokesperson, Howard Kaloogian, did the following:
Kaloogian’s campaign has been plagued with at least four false endorsements and one conflicting endorsement:
* In February 2006, Kaloogian placed an ad in a Washington, D.C. newspaper that falsely claimed the California Pro-Life Council endorsed Kaloogian. They did not endorse any candidate for the race.[9]
* Another claim for endorsement by the conservative Center for Reclaiming America (active in the Terri Schiavo feeding tube petition drive) also proved false — the organization stated they don’t endorse candidates. [10]
* In March, campaign literature and Kaloogian’s website suggested State Senator Tom McClintock endorsed Kaloogian with the two-year old quote “Howard Kaloogian has distinguished himself as one of the most principled, courageous and steadfast conservative leaders in California.”[11] In a statement McClinctock stated “It has come to my attention that a campaign mailing on behalf of Howard Kaloogian includes a picture and quote from me that suggests that I have endorsed his candidacy for U. S. Congress. I have not.”[12].
* State Senator Bill Morrow, who was running against Kaloogian, challenged an implied endorsement by him of Kaloogian on the same webpage.[13][14]
* Endorsements from social conservatives such as James Dobson who was appointed to the Commission on Pornography, 1985-86 during the Reagan administration and Concerned Women for America, a religious conservative women’s political organization, are at odds with an endorsement from Gabrielle Reilly[15] – an adult website model[16] and who also appeared on Kaloogian’s web site. The Reilly endorsement on Kaloogian’s web site was later removed.

Good morning Mr Walker,
Grid losses aren’t nearly as high as you state. The grid is old and not up to the job of being able to utilize all of the ‘greenie’ energy sources but then a lot of that is due to problems caused by the ‘greenies’!
Grid losses are less than 10%.
http://www.energetics.com/gridworks/grid.html
================================================
Hank, that’s more bs. Even at 10%, that is a great loss. Hell, give me a thou, and I’ll hand you back 900. Fair deal, huh?
But it’s not just the “greenies” fighting the network, it’a also all the NIMBY types, which include poor, middle class, and wealthy people of all persuasions, dems, repubs, et al. Want em coming into your back yard and putting up a major electrical transmission line. Could block that great view you got.
And “Green” electricty is the same as any other electricity, only renewable. Once coal is gone, it’s gone, once the wind stops, heck, it just starts again. Same with the sun. Imagine that.
“I’m not the one complaining about Palin’s obvious good looks. I’m sorry that you’re envious, but them’s the facts, ma’am.”
I’m not complaining about her “good” looks…it’s her Christian arrogance, her idea that she wants creationism taught in public schools, and her belief that not everyone is equal and not entitled to the same rights that has my panties in a wad.
She’s Anita Bryant all over again…I thought we got past that BS in the 70s!
Absolutely Mary. If she’s out to prove that women are unqualified, well they sure picked their perfect candidate.
