This morning, Yoder Heritage Days on the road to Hutchinson. Hotcakes and sausage breakfast in the center of town. Lots of people, crafts, horses and mules. Begins about the time the moon sets and the sun rises this morning.
From the back pages, down in a corner of the business section —
Iran has bought more than 1 million tons of Kansas-grown hard red winter wheat directly from the U.S. First time in 27 years we have done business with those folks.
Details at —

But the Republic Party candidate John S (for Senile) McCain the Third (for Shrub’s 3rd term) sings:
“Bomb! Bomb! Bomb!
Bomb-bomb your Customer!”
HEHEHE
Seems that the mainstream, articulate, clean black man has picked Biden for his VP!
Now that’s the change I hoped for!
HEHEHE
Morning Hank!
Yeah, but Biden was ‘agin’ being Vice President, then he was ‘fer’ it.
Morning Regular!
I got a lot of money that says ol’ ‘Ebony and Ivory’ don’t make it to the white house!
Biden will soon say something incredibly stupid and suck all the oxygen out of the messiah’s campaign.
HEHEHE
Interesting that the Stay Red Kansas website is down.
They were the ones who said it was Evan Bayh.
They even stated that if they were wrong they’d close down their lame CON propaganda site.
Typical of CONs commenting on Democratic politics; i.e., wrong. Atypical of CONs to follow up on a promise.
Biden can be a blessing curse, he is smart enough and is more a straight shooter then McCain has become.
But he can be as diplomatic as a Bulldozer, something that is more then likely to offend many in such a superficial country that we have become. No one want to be reminded that their farts smell and Biden has a talent for shouting “OMG who farted?”. he does not seem to be a Neoconservative which we need more whom are not.
Biden was Tracy’s choice for pres waaaay back when we had a couple dozen (seemed like it!) candidates vying for the spot. He used to post about Biden regularly and it seemed good stuff. He is probably a good choice for balance and the foreign policy creds everyone said Obama lacked. Glad it’s over! Wish we could go vote and the whole thing would be decided. I grow weary.
Maybe Biden is a good pick in that he knows how to/he’s used to losing when it comes to presidential campaigns. I look forward to hearing the rat-phucking Hillary dead-enders continue their running hissy fit. Now they’ll really have a reason to whine. They’re easy to identify. They’re the psudo-libs that you can’t trust to cover your back.
In 4 years, they’ll be asking you to support their candidate.
Be sure you don’t forget what they did this election. You can’t trust them; they’re not good people.
“writerdog” gives us –
“…he does not seem to be a Neoconservative which we need more whom are not.”
Thank your lucky stars you never faced an armed Grammar Nazi.
;^)
The more I think about it, Biden’s rep as a verbal loose cannon won’t hurt. He can call out John S (for senile) McCain the Third (for Shrub’s 3rd term) and his many flip-flops. He can be the running-mate who serves as attack dog. He can eat Mittens’ lunch in a debate.
And even if Biden were to come up with a gaffe, Obama is on record as choosing a running-mate who might disagree with him in the course of public policy.
Even the sound bites of Biden saying good things about McC*nt work out. Even Republic Party advocates have noted that the 2000 version of McCain wouldn’t vote for the 2008 version of McBush.
“He doesn’t know who he is anymore!
He doesn’t know Suni from Shi’ite!
He doesn’t even know which house down there (as he flies over it in the family Learjet) is his! There are so many of ‘em. How’s an old man expected to keep track?”
I guess this means we won’t have any more political comments from p.m. She’s out of it now.
Joe Biden’s own words saying he did not want the VP or Sec of State position:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/15/joe-biden-says-he-doesnt_n_96876.html
I was reading around this morning getting others “take” on the choice of Biden. Seems the polls show this choice as neutral — as many think the choice of Biden would make a difference in their vote as don’t. (I personally still find it difficult to believe in this “undecided” voters existence!)
Some are saying he is a Washington insider while others say Obama needs that and he will shorten the learning curve all presidents face.
Many mentions of Biden in vice presidential debates and thosee I read indicated Biden would hold his own against whoever.
I didn’t find anyplace where anyone one is questioning Biden’s experience and neither did I find any “skeletons.”
He could “take over” if needed.
He knows McCain — both the maverick and the one who exists today. He certainly can dispel the myth.

Hallmark now has cards oriented to-wards the same-sex married couple marketplace. Seems that Calif. and Mass. constitute enough to warrant a change in marketing attitudes. Will they be sold in Kansas?

Sure they will.
And I have some nice slogans for them on the ready. :D
“Will they be sold in Kansas?”
Hahahaha! An opportunity for practical jokers everywhere!
So it’s Biden.
Well . . . I’m disappointed. He doesn’t represent “change” to me–he represents all those go-along-to-get-along votes from the Democrats as W eviscertated the constitution and repealed the New Deal.
But, hey, at least he’s not a RepubliCON.
Yep. For all the hype, the world seems non-plussed about the Biden choice. Party because, as Linda noted, many of us grow weary with the cute games. But also because, we expected it. Little difference between Biden and Bahy and Kaine. I’m just glad it’s not governor “leadership”. I never thought it would be Hillary. Getting the hopes up of the Hillary supporters was just a cruel game. They were used to create interest where little interest existed.
It’s gonna be a long, slow Bataan death march to the first Tuesday in November. I predict a lot of folks will stay home. And the killer for obama will be the youth vote that doesnt show up. Mcsame’s folks will be at the polls when they open. Just like they’re clock work for the early bird dinner specials at Dennys. And everyone who wanted change will go “home” to their parties to vote.
And, to quote Led Zepplin, “the song remains the same”.
But hey, look on the bright side. We’re STILL safe from gay marriage.
Dennys???

Ladies and gentleman?
By my prediction early June and through the courtesy and incompetence of the most inept and arrogant canididate in history Barack Obama, he gives you President John McCain.
Coming from an old woman who really has gone beyond weary to not giving a s**t — President McCain could be the best thing that ever happened to the Democratic Party. Also the worst for the entire world.

Obama is gonna lose and in 40 states.
Biden is a good man and a fighter. But Obama thinks he himself is the second coming.
By not even ASKING Senator Clinton, he has thrown away 10 million votes.
It was ours to lose. And ONE man. One very young and arrogant man has tossed us to the wolves.
Hillary will have to make one helluva speech to try and save his sorry ass. But I doubt it’s possible.
I’ll wait to hear from her.
Being as short an attention span the general public has, I’ll wait for the McLame pick, and the debates that follow.
By the way. It seems kind of hypocritical for some on the con side to refer to Obama as Osama, Messiah, and ebony and ivory, considering their man dumped his broke, overweight wife for some rich bimbo, just to improve his pocketbook, and political aspirations.
Obama’s been married to, what, one woman? Now ain’t that a Christian thing to do.
Oh, that’s right: you cons think he’s a Muslim terrorist. The irony!
Junior,
She wants him to lose. Don’t you get that?

Hardly a history like McCain! Facts are:
In 1966, while in law school, Biden married Neilia Hunter. They had three children, Joseph R. “Beau” Biden III, Robert Hunter, and Naomi. His wife and infant daughter died in a car accident shortly after he was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1972. His two young sons, Beau and Hunter, were seriously injured in the accident, but both eventually made full recoveries.
In 1977, Biden married Jill Tracy Jacobs. They have one daughter, Ashley, and are members of the Roman Catholic Church.

Try taking a shower. You’ll feel better for it and so will the rest of us.
Plus, Biden and his children have loving, respectful relationships with one another.
When Biden was sitting at the bedside of his two sons during their recuperation from injuries in that car accident that took his wife and daughter, Biden began the practice of commuting an hour and a half each day on the train from his home in the Wilmington suburbs to Washington, DC, which he continues to do.
So not quite the “insider” he is painted as being!
“Oh, that’s right: you cons think he’s a Muslim terrorist. The irony!” — JM
They don’t think that, JM, at least not those on this blog. To them, a lie is just a tactic, and is meant for the dumb slobs they’ve been preying on, and sending off to war. Given the innate prejudices of the general dumb slob in this country, it will probably work again. But maybe not. Every now and then, the dumb slobs wise up, and then watch out. — just another dumb slob
Well, the upshot is there is no way Obama’s inevitable Wile E Coyote splat coming can be blamed on Senator Clinton.
If she WERE the VP? They could say it was her fault when he loses.
If she had been given a choice? Whatever choice she made she would have been blamed when Obama goes splat.
Now? Obama has the slam bang out chorus all to himself and on his own doing.
How will you feel better, xxx, if I wash off your filth?
You don’t get it, “lindainKS55?”
It’s exactly the same.
McC*nt’s first
bimbowife was injured in a car wreck so he dumped her and their three kids for the Arizona Beer Queen.Biden’s first wife was injured in a car wreck so he dumped her.
Exactly the same.
Except, of course, Carol McCain didn’t die.

Ladies and gentleman?
By my prediction early June and through the courtesy and incompetence of the most inept and arrogant canididate in history Barack Obama, he gives you President John McCain.
Sorry BJ, you miss it by a mile. It’ll be the Hillary dead-enders who give us President John McCain.
This election is “either or”. There’s no gray area; there’s no in between. There’s no 2 ways about it. Hillary dead-enders are prepared to sell us all down the river for spite.
Oh, in my rush to the differences I DID miss the similarities. I’ll try harder. Is the trick that as soon as I find something / anything that might prove a point I want to prove, I GO NO FURTHER?
50% of HIllary dead-enders won’t vote for Obama.
20% of Hillary dead-enders will vote for McCain.
20% will vote for McCain?!?!? That says it all about a certain group of rat-phuckers.
I’ve decided not to listen to, or if I accidently overhear, anything a GOPer has to say about my Democratic party candidates. Most of it will be BS anyway, so why not give my blood pressure a rest.
You Karl Rovers can make fun of me all you want, you’ll be pissing into the wind and I won’t be listening.
Dennis
“YellowdogLiberal” declares –
“… Karl Rovers can make fun of me all you want, you’ll be pissing into the wind and I won’t be listening.”
How can they piss in the wind when they’re all sitting down?
“I GO NO FURTHER?” –Ms. Inks
When rarely I find that a wingnut actually has a point, however, I don’t share it.
I’m afraid you have missed it X.
Barack Obama does not want my vote.
By totally disrespecting Senator Clinton and her supporters, Obama has proclaimed that he can win…because he SAYS he can win. He can defy political reality, turn red states blue!
Well? I’m sorry. I never had the epiphany. Light did not shine down on me and I suddenly realized, “I have to vote for Barack”. I’ll not be bludgeoned or blamed into it either.
Personally? I wish Senator Clinton would make a floor fight of it. If we have to lose when all odds said we should win, I’d rather go down fighting as opposed to faking it.
But, that defies political reality as well.
No, this one is all on Obama. He wanted it, he’s got it. How sad it is that so many will suffer for the sake of one man’s ego.
Can Two monogamous males win, I think not. He should’ve a put a little more colorful character in as v.p. Someone that’s lived in the fast lane and then were born again if he wants to have a ‘character matters’ discussion.
Except he’s not really playing to the rw.
Mccain’s in a dilemma, if he chooses an old codger like himself, neither might live through a term. If he gets a younger running mate, he’ll look like Gramps.
“This election is “either or”. There’s no gray area; there’s no in between.”
Aren’t most general elections an either or event?
In recent history, the last time I heard of more than two candidates was when an independent threatened to pull votes from one candidate or the other. Ross Perot sorta thing.
Unless you are refering to the actual outcome of the election of either McCain or Obama. In which case, they are both going to be business as usual.
“A marriage history like Mccains”
Wrong, but the sexual history of candidates really doesn’t matter to liberals or democrats. A Clinton blowjob in the white house, the definition of “is”, John Edwards sexual affair and his poor wife with cancer, and republicans soliciting sex in mens rooms.
Obviously, sexual history or preference is not a reflection on moral or ethical behavior in America. Both sides should “give it rest” when discussing the candidates. It’s the issues I’m interested in. (This advice doesn’t apply to bloggers with nothing else to offer.)
But neither side can claim the moral high ground, if there still is a high ground.
I think it’s true that the more we learn the greater the potential for effective treatments. So, to me who suffers, I like to see that the scientists are “taking the clock apart to see its inner workings in order to put it back together with the new knowledge of how to keep it working.” Quoted analogy borrowed and paraphrased from a trusted and respected scientist I speak with often!

Hope over ‘early arthritis test’
The weakening and breakdown of cartilage, which cushions the moving parts of joints, is a key factor in the development of osteoarthritis, which is common in the over-40s.
Cartilage is tough and elastic because of its high water content, and existing MRI scans look for lower levels of this as a sign that the disease is developing.
The team is trying to spot the disease even earlier by looking for a substance called glycosaminogycan (GAG), which helps the cartilage hold plenty of water.
The scientists found a way to make the hydrogen atoms attached to GAG emit a signal which can be picked up by the scanner.
Unfortunately at the moment there is no treatment that could be offered that would change the situation.
What it may prove to be is a very sensitive test of drug treatment response as new agents are developed.

Totally disrespecting Senator Clinton? What a steaming pile! Hillary didn’t get treated with kid gloves. WAHHHHH This is American politics. You get hit with whatever stick the opposition can find.
Like I said, it’s “either or”. 20% of Hillary dead-enders will vote for McCain. We’ll have the dead-enders to thank for 4 more years of republican rule. Talk about ego…
For Obama the v.p. will remain a secondary advisory role, unlike current status.
For Mccain, it’s about 50/50 whether he or the v.p. will fininsh the term as prez.
You can bet Hill had an offer but didn’t think it the best career move. She doesn’t want to make history as the first v.p., and I’ll bet she didn’t want sebelius to either.
A Black and woman would’ve been asking just too much change for America simultaneously, it would never have flown.
“By totally disrespecting Senator Clinton and her supporters”
This wasn’t a matter of disrespect. Obama’s decision wasn’t intended as a slap in the face against Hill. No more so than presidential candidates have done so forever. But it was a matter of life and death to avoid a dogfight at the convention!
Obama had to announce before the gathering of delegates – to preempt the Clintons trying to steal the election on the convention floor!
“You get hit with whatever stick the opposition can find. ”
After the fact? I was not aware that Senators Clinton and Obama were still opponents.
Senator Clinton’s talents would be totally wasted in the VP job. But there IS the matter of paying the proper respects.
Obama gave her and her supporters the back of his hand as HE reaches out to the enemy.
He says he can win it without us. Let him.
I think Biden is a mistake. If he was going to select a senator, I think Hillary Clinton would have been the best first choice.
That being said, if the Democratic party fractures over the nomination of Barack Obama. If the Hillary Clinton supporters stay home, vote for McCain, or for Cynthia McKinney or whomever, and McCain wins, they have themselves to blame, not Barack Obama.
“He says he can win it without us. Let him.”
He didn’t say that. You did.
We all choose who we’ll vote for and why.
Seems this year one of the reasons will be, “because the candidate I wanted to support didn’t win.”
Then we’re told the candidate who didn’t win in the primaries, would have won in the general BECAUSE (we’re told vehemently!) where they did win adds up to enough electoral votes to get elected.
Seems also to continue the divisiveness. Boy, am I ready to move beyond that!
I firmly believe Senator Clinton will be very gracious and very convincing in her speech to unite the Democratic Party behind the Obama / Biden ticket. I also don’t think it will work for some who have previously decided how they will vote and why.
Don’t be too certain that Hillary Clinton isn’t happy with Barack Obama’s pick, or maybe even didn’t push for it behind the scenes. I could see Clinton actually being happy about it.
A Biden candidacy, if it were successful, would leave open some real opportunities for a Senator who is a viable presidential aspirant.
ALL he had to do was humble himself just a little. ALL Obama had to do was give Senator Clinton the chance to turn him down. His ego would not allow it.
Senator Clinton and her speech MAY yet save him. But she will have to give a speech of the ages.
Me? I live in Kansas. My vote does not matter anyway. Barack does not want my vote and he will not get it.
“Barack does not want my vote and he will not get it.”
Yep, he made a calculated decision to throw the gay community under the bus and pander to the fundies and the bigots in the black community.
He didnt care then if he got my vote. I intend to give him what he wanted. I hope the folks he pandered to can get him elected.
“Yep, he made a calculated decision to throw the gay community under the bus and pander to the fundies and the bigots in the black community.”
Yeah and with that he was just warming up.
ANYBODY is expendable to the almighty ego of Barack Obama. He WILL be. Because he says so.
Could we call Fay the blue-collar storm or at least the one who won’t quit, just keeps on a workin’?
——-
Fay hits Florida fourth time, heads for New Orleans
Tropical Storm Fay extended her stay in Florida on Saturday making landfall for a record fourth time as she trudged across the state’s northern panhandle and took aim at points west including New Orleans.
At 8 a.m. EDT (1200 GMT) on Saturday the center of the storm was about 20 miles southeast of Panama City in Florida’s Panhandle.
Fay, which threatened to become a hurricane but never became one as it advanced across the Caribbean and the Florida Keys, has already been blamed for eight deaths in Florida.

I’m also willing to bet that it wont be disgruntled Hillary supporters that lose the election for obama. As I mentioned before, it will be the enthusiastic youth, who went all out in the primary but will somehow not make it to the polls in November. I’m willing to bet that exit polls from the general election will prove that to be correct.
And.. isnt it possible, that if obama loses, it will be HIS fault? He played divide and conquer very well. He banked on everyone in his party coming together because, well, he’s NOT mccain.
That was his strategy. If it fails, it’s because he picked the wrong strategy, not because people behaved as could be predicted when they had been thrown under the bus. This false choice crap hasnt worked for the democrats for a very long time. It was wishful thinking it would work this time.
Obama Differed With Biden On Two Key Business Votes
Joe Biden will stiffen Barack Obama’s foreign-policy credentials, but they differ on two measures important to Wall Street, overhaul of bankruptcy laws and limits on class-action lawsuits.
Mr. Biden (D., Del.) was an ardent Democratic supporter of a major bankruptcy overhaul in 2005, much to the dismay of consumer groups and the delight of Delaware’s massive credit-card companies, such as MBNA Corp. That same year, Mr. Biden voted against class-action reform legislation sought by corporations.
In both votes, Mr. Obama (D., Ill.) took the opposite position.
In fact, Mr. Obama continues to make an issue out of the bankruptcy bill Mr. Biden so strongly supported. Mr. Obama cites it when criticizing his Republican rival, Sen. John McCain (R., Ariz.) who voted for it.

Well I was hoping for an…interesting…convention. That seems unlikely.
I DO want to hear Senator Clinton’s speech. How she tries to pull victory from the jaws of defeat for a candidate who should never have even been in the race I don’t know. I want to hear that one.
Obama’s speech? I stopped caring about anything he had to say when he called the Republican party the party of ideas.

Ya know the reason I’m not overly worried if mcsame wins as opposed to obama? I dont believe there will be much of a difference between a mcsame presidency and an obama presidency. Yeah, I know, he’s promising change, but come on. Pelosi and reid promised change if the democrats took over congress. And even if reid had an unworkably slim margin in the Senate, pelosi had a much bigger and more workable majority in the house. And she didnt do squat with it.
I think they are all owned by the same people. If obama can backpedal on FISA, offshore drilling, equal rights for gays, getting the troops out of Iraq, etc… what ELSE will he backpedal on when he is really preznit? (And freebird, you have the correct interpretation of what I believe the “preznit” really is.)
I think Hillary and her wing of the party could have lived with any one of the short listers except sebelius. But sebelius wont even deliver Kansas, with it’s few e.c. votes, so really, in practical terms, what would sebelius have added to the ticket that obama couldnt get, and more, from someone else?
I think Hillary will do what she can for obama, but she cant undo the damage he has done by his choice of strategy. And she already knows she’ll get blamed, no matter what. Yeah, I know she wants to run again, but she has a much better chance of getting the nomination if obama wins. If he loses, the party will never forgive HER!
“Mr. Biden (D., Del.) was an ardent Democratic supporter of a major bankruptcy overhaul in 2005, much to the dismay of consumer groups and the delight of Delaware’s massive credit-card companies, such as MBNA Corp. Obama was correct on this issue. Biden was wrong. We are and will continue to live with the consequences of the imbalanced stupidity of not holding lenders responsible for their irresponsible behavior when they target high risk borrowers (because they are unlikely to pay off loans early).
At least we won’t have a co-president in Biden, so I’m not all that concerned with biden’s stance on bankruptcy, I believe a majority of dem. leaders opposed the shafting the public received in the overhaul.
“Ya know the reason I’m not overly worried if mcsame wins as opposed to obama? I dont believe there will be much of a difference between a mcsame presidency and an obama presidency. I don’t agree with you. I think there will be quite a bit of difference between the two. No, I do not think that the liberal revolution some here seem to want would happen (but it sure as hell wouldn’t have happened under Clinton either), but the interesting thing about Obama, in the non-partisan in depth reports I have read on the man (plus his book, the Audacity of Hope) lead me to think that Obama would represent a serious change, not so much in politics as in governance. Obama is a deliberate and thoughtful man, every biographical detail about him not shaded by one shill or another makes this clear. And that would represent an enormous change from the worst president we have had in over a century (Warren Harding is rolling in his grave over his record being shattered). A president who was bad not because he was “conservative”, but because he was impulsive and incurious and surrounded himself with men who operated on short term objectives related to power/political advantage and who were unconcerned about the long term implications of what they would do.
By the way, those who call McCain “McSame” do this man a disservice. I also think McCain would not be the truly impulsive fool that the previous president was. However, he does not seem to have the deliberate temperment that Obama has. It may not be the revolution that the young Obama supporters are imagining, but it would be a considerable revolution nevertheless.
I truly believe (and I do have some strong differences with the man) that Obama has the potential to be an outstanding president.
Part of the difference between us, ksfarmgrrl, is that you have a depth of cynicism that I do not have (and no, I do not consider myself either naive, or, in comparison to you, non-idealistic). And while I am not a fan of Pelosi nor Reid (particularly the latter, I have actually been pleasantly surprised by Pelosi-which means, by the way, I have very low expectations for her). The malaise of the Democrats comes largely from their being gun shy. Conservatives and Republicans have so succeeded in making “liberals” and “Democrats” the issue that they think defensively even when they shouldn’t be on the defensive. And that allows a stubborn, uncompromising intentional nincompoop the advantage. And even then, the nincompoop eventually overplayed his hand.
Well Agnatha, I really hope you are right. And I’m happy for you that you dont share the depths of my cynicism. Maybe I’ve just seen more ugliness in a more up close way than you have. I wouldnt wish this cynicism on anyone, but once you know, you cant “unknow”. That’s both the beauty and the hell of experience.
I agree that obama will try to do better in terms of governance. But I think he’s up against an almost impossible task of undoing what the cons have done. One of the gists of Frank’s The Wrecking Crew is that the destruction of government by cons and the folks who now own the republican party is that the destruction of governance and the horrible performance of government under their rule is deliberate and carefully calculated. And the destruction is now so firmly entrenched that it will take decades to undo. Doesnt mean we shouldnt start now, but obama wont be ABLE to change things anymore than mcsame would if he actually wanted to do so.
I think bush was a useful tool, er fool, heavy on the fool. But I think the uber cons in the republican party would only have put someone LIKE him in his place. That’s why mcsame didnt get the nomination in 2000. Now? He’s more compliant, and will continue the carefully executed destruction of governmental institutions.
If you were not at the Frank meeting, you should have been. If you have not read The Wrecking Crew, you should. It isnt the writerdogs and Goldwaters of that party that own it anymore. It’s the grover norquists and the jack abramhoffs that own it.
And for that? You should be very afraid. Please excuse the cynicism…. It just looks like an acknowledgment of reality to me.
And really, I hope you are right an I’m wrong.
Why would anyone vote against mass transit? That is one method to BRING BACK a fair amount of federal and state tax dollars back to the city. If Wichita does not reach out some other Kansas community will.
Be Smart bring those tax dollars back home!!
“If you were not at the Frank meeting, you should have been. If you have not read The Wrecking Crew, you should. It isnt the writerdogs and Goldwaters of that party that own it anymore. It’s the grover norquists and the jack abramhoffs that own it.”
Oh how I wish I could have! I had a previous commitment (in retrospect, I know a couple of people who did go and I should have given them money for a book). Was it well attended (of course, it wouldn’t take much to create a standing room only crowd in Watermark Books)?
I have not read The Wrecking Crew yet, but rest assured if I don’t drop dead within the next week or so I will. The last book I read twice was What’s the Matter with Kansas.
I have so much more to say on the subject of Frank, but I really gotta go and don’t know if I will have time to return to this thread anytime soon. Discipline Agnatha, you have some things to do.
I will say this with regards to the writings of Frank. I heard the most important confession in modern American politics sometime in the late ’80’s or early ’90’s. No one else in the media caught it. It was never publicized. I think it may have been on Larry King, but I could be wrong, but I remember where I was when I heard it (the back room of the first house my late first wife and I owned). And the confession was this:
Richard Vigurie admitted that the liberal movement bogeyman that conservatives railed against and still rail against was a fictional creation (intentionally cultivated) that allowed him and the odious Howard Phillips to organize an alliance between old style paleo-cons, evangelical christians, and conservative catholics that persists to this day (and this is what I refer to when I talk about coalition conservatives). The fall of the Dixicrats and discontent in the rural west opened a window of opportunity, and Phillips and Vigurie and their allies took it. With it, they created a revolution that is still doing damage now, and the lie that it was based on is echoed every time someone goes on about the “libs”.
The jawless fish is drinking extra servings of Thomas Frank koolaid.
Agnatha, It was well attended AND it doesn’t take much to create a standing-room-only crowd at Watermark (as you aptly stated). I’d guess they found / made space for at least 75 chairs, there were people standing in each aisle made by bookshelves, in fact every available square inch of space was filled and we didn’t mind being crowded. This was in Wichita, Kansas! Gave me the same breath of fresh air feeling I had when I ventured out on that snowy night last February and found I had to wait in line at a Democratic caucus! Sweeeeet!
I would have loved to meet you!
View of economy somber from Fed mountain retreat
Fed officials say that it will take a prolonged period for the harm done to confidence by the collapse in the U.S. housing market to wash through the system. Bernanke acknowledged that there would no quick fix.
“The financial storm that reached gale force some weeks before our last meeting here in Jackson Hole has not yet subsided, and its effects on the broader economy are becoming apparent,” Bernanke told the conference on Friday.
Lipsky said the U.S. economy might contract slightly in the second half of the year. Even if it skates the generally accepted rule of thumb for a recession — two consecutive quarters of contraction — he warned it will suffer a clear period of sluggish growth, with the IMF forecasting growth of 1.3 percent this year and 0.8 percent in 2009.
Others at the conference had no doubt that the U.S. economy was heading for a nasty knock.

You can bet Hill had an offer but didn’t think it the best career move. She doesn’t want to make history as the first v.p., and I’ll bet she didn’t want sebelius to either.
A Black and woman would’ve been asking just too much change for America simultaneously, it would never have flown.
Yes. I agree 100% with both comments with the addition that Obama and Clinton probably have discussed her taking the V.P. slot, but I, too, believe she would have or did turn it down.
JayBird, you seem to think that the moment Obama won the “nomination” that he and Hillary stayed in their opposite corners of the ring, gloves still held high. I don’t think so. Hillary isn’t the problem. The problem is people like you who only favored one person and now throw a hissy fit multiple times a day over it. All this throwing this group and that person under the bus talk, when it’s you throwing yourself (and this country) under the bus. And yes, I know Hillary wasn’t your first pick, so no need to remind me. :)
LOL And I think it’ll be just the opposite! No offense intended kfg, to you or JR or anyone else here. I just disagree. And because you’re a “leftie”, I disagree respectfully. ;) (It’s a joke, righties.)
OF COURSE Obama took on the “I will win” talk. That’s what positive people do. That’s what all “We Can” is all about.
As for the Biden pick, I don’t see it as a bad thing. He has the experience everyone is saying Obama does not. There’ll be no Dick Cheney clone in the 2nd seat with Biden. He won’t sit quietly by and disappear, only to reappear to tell someone to go F themselves on the Senate floor. Biden will be out there telling others that all the time! LOL
Seriously, Biden is a straight talker. In fact, so much straighter that it seems McCain’s Straight Talk Express runs on two tracks running in opposite directions.
I can live with Biden. I am far from completely disappointed. He seems at least as decent as any other and more so than some. I don’t agree with him 100%, but I don’t expect to find anyone in politics that I do. C’est la vie!
Well Pre, you make a lot of sense, but the youth are notorious for not showing up at the polls.
Sigh. I guess democrats will never suffer any repercussions from throwing some of their most ardent constituencies under the bus. Carrots dont work without sticks in the quiver as well.
Not the youth in my family, kfg! All but the youngest have really gotten into paying attention to politics. And since they were raised as good liberals… he he Their father is a repuke, but since he’s clueless, they listened to Mom. (He’s my ex, I can call him what I want. :) )
It all remains to be seen. Another 2 1/2 months, and it’ll be all over but the shouting. Like Linda, I, too, grow weary of all of it. They needed to shorten the primary season, not make it longer. People tend to grow bored, so the soundbytes get more outrageous, just so their attention is grabbed. Apathy sets in. And then we have trouble.
Now, there is a nut case lawyer from PA, Mr. Phillip Berg, who has filed an injunction law suit, to prevent Obama from being the Democratic Candidate….
Berg claims that Obama isnt a citizen of the US… and he has filed a lawsuit… in a Federal Court…

See Friday Recap Article…
Pre, Same with the youth in my family! I have two grandsons who WILL vote for Obama this fall at their first opportunity to cast a vote. And, of course, my children who like yours paid attention to Mom and not absent Dad. Probably because we are blessed with superior children and grandchildren! I do have a son-in-law (the voting grandsons Dad) who is Republican and so ashamed of what bush is and what he has done, he may vote for Obama. All he has said is he can’t / won’t vote for McCain.

This will be a fatal blow to welfare queens everywhere.
X, that was cheap, untrue, and unnecessary.
Ann Richards, 1988, on CSPAN now.
I have no idea why.
CSPAN is antiseptically nonpartisan. But maybe, by way of explanation, it’s a reminder of what this election is about.
Go listen: to the chilling premonitions of what we’re living today.
Rage, My “guide” tells me this C-Span show is scheduled to be “President’s Weekly Radio Address.” Quite refreshing to hear Ann instead, although she was too right and not enough heeded the warnings!
Ann Richards was more charming and more brilliant than you can even imagine. She surrounded herself with really good people as well. Libs in Texas refer to her as the “last real governor of Texas”!
Pre and Linda, I hope you are right about the youth vote. To use another line, “from your lips to god’s ears”.
Prominent Democrat Philip Berg has filed a lawsuit that claims Obamanations’s eligibility is questionable on several grounds, including the allegation that he was born in Kenya to parents unable to automatically grant him American citizenship, that his Hawaii birth certificate is a forgery, that he was made a citizen of Indonesia as a child and that he retained foreign citizenship into adulthood without recording an oath of allegiance to regain any theoretical American citizenship.
At least there is no worse candidate waiting to step in, if Obamanation’s out.
[Is this a bad thing for McCain’s candidacy? Obamanation was such a terrible left-wing extremist that he was losing already. Some other Democrat might just be tolerable enough to beat maverick McCain. Would Hog Futures Hillary keep attack dog Biden on her ticket?]

Well, maybe cheap.
Sorry Rage, but since I’m not a Democrat, I don’t feel a need to agree with Democrats all of the time. There are a few libs on this blog that I just don’t like or agree with. This statement was directed at one of them.

Truer words were never spoken. When she lost to Bush, I lost my pride about being a Texan.
It was outta line X.
And that “pseudo libs who you can’t trust” or whatever? Who was that for?
The reason I am leary of Obama is BECAUSE I don’t bail on my friends to reach out to enemies.
Good night; Good luck; God bless —-
Whatever you conceive God to be!!
Blessings ALL!!!
So mote it be!!
“Prominent Democrat Philip Berg ”
Promonent? Only in his and parkay’s minds (sic)!
From the same link as the article about Philip Berg – a claimed siting of parkay:
“YouTube user ‘ufological’ has posted a video (of images taken from an original video) purportedly of an alien creeping around a Florida couple’s home.”
“I am fine with going to a con free meet- but I’d like to have one with everyone too.
I like to look my opponents in the eye.”
X?
I don’t know what your beef is with political mama.
She posted that yesterday.
As far as I know, you have never met her. She did not post on this thread today where you attacked her.
I am remembering the first meetup. Hank Price took it over and I was not going to go.
YOU told me it would be chickenshit of me to post the things here that I do and not look that man in the eye.
And you were right. I have since taken the measure of the man, and do not care to see him again.
Like I say? As far as I know, you have not met political mama. And she for whatever reason is not posting today.
I met her briefly. I disagree with her that cons are worthy of meeting and looking in the eye.
Been there, done that, why bother?
“There are a few libs on this blog that I just don’t like or agree with. This statement was directed at one of them.”
What is this based on?
It has been a very nasty primary fight. And I am glad you had other things to do. And you WERE right. It turned friends against friends, but that is working it’s way out.
I really want to know why it is you take such a nasty shot against someone you have never met.
It’s particularly honorable that McCain says he doesn’t like to talk about his POW years. You’d have to be a huge jerk to bring that up during an election.
Yeah It’s derivative. But GMC is derivative of me and KFG.
From an adaptation of “Christmas Carol” This goes out to all the cons.
“Listen to the rythm of the shovel in the gravel
and the murmurs of the spirits that you fear,
dancing in the shadows of the future.
Your future lies here!
Listen to the echoes of the voices in the shadows,
all the people who you never tried to save!
Listen to the people who’ll be dancing on your grave!
Listen to the rythm of the hammer on the coffin
and the murmur of the people drawing near.
Listen to the music of the future. Your future likes here!
Listen to the echoes of the voices of the future
as they curse you for the little that you gave!
Listen to the footsteps of the people who’ll be dancing on your grave!
