As mentioned on the tail end of yesterday’s “OPEN THREAD,” it was interesting to see a lot of our WE Bloggers at the Thomas Frank book signing last night. How many were there … perhaps ten, did anybody count? Perhaps somebody will provide a list of the NICS. Have a good day.

This year so far coolest for at least 5 years: WMO

    http://uk.news.yahoo.com/rtrs/20080820/twl-environment-climate-2008-dc-1202b49.html

LONDON (Reuters) – The first half of 2008 was the coolest for at least five years, the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) said on Wednesday.

Don’t worry, for all of you still clinging to AGW the article continues to say:

“Global temperatures vary annually according to natural cycles. For example, they are driven by shifting ocean currents, and dips do not undermine the case that man-made greenhouse gas emissions are causing long-term global warming, climate scientists say.”

Ah yes… who is in denial now?

So are we seriously going to have to start limiting freedom of speech to ban hate speech like some other countries do? I don’t want that, seriously I don’t. But one should not fear for their life for what they say. And the response to her OpEd was far over the top.

Latest analysis: Global temperature has not increased significantly since 1979!?

Much ado has been made about global warming stopping since 2001, since 1998 or not increasing in the last decade. Here is more grist to the skeptic mill. The analysis below shows the global temperature has not increased significantly since 1979!

Data are from the TLT Sellite measurements of the Earth’s lower troposphere at RSS MSU. When you calculate the global surface temperatures from July to July 1979-2008, the earth has warmed the grand amount of 0.295 degrees C. The standard deviation of temperature changes from each July to July is 0.2522C, putting the change over 30 years at just over a non-significant one standard deviation (actually p=0.13, significant if p<0.05) of the expected change in just one year. Stated another way, temperatures would be expected to change by a similar amount to the increase in the last 30 years, every one out of eight years.

You have to wonder what all the fuss us about. The effect of 30 years of global warming is no greater than the expected change in a single year. The data support low estimates of CO2 doubling as the Spencer climate sensitivity.

The frequency of July-July annual differences with a normal curve is plotted above using R language for the statistics. The temperature difference from July 1979 to July 2008 is marked as a big red dot.

Here is another view of July temperatures over the last 30 years, with the levels of the start and end points marked by red dashed lines.

Great Presentation by Thomas Frank, now back to our regularly scheduled reprograming

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/01/24/AR2007012401807.html?referrer=email

FEDERAL WAY, Wash., Jan. 24 — Frosty E. Hardison

Hardison, a parent of seven here in the southern suburbs of Seattle, has himself roiled the global-warming waters. It happened early this month when he learned that one of his daughters would be watching “An Inconvenient Truth” in her seventh-grade science class.

“No you will not teach or show that propagandist Al Gore video to my child, blaming our nation — the greatest nation ever to exist on this planet — for global warming,” Hardison wrote in an e-mail to the Federal Way School Board. The 43-year-old computer consultant is an evangelical Christian who says he believes that a warming planet is “one of the signs” of Jesus Christ’s imminent return for Judgment Day.

The e-mail also pressured the school board to impose a ban on screenings of the film for the district’s 22,500 students.

The ban, which the school board says was merely a “moratorium,” was lifted Tuesday night, subject to rigorous conditions. Still, the action has appalled the film’s producers and triggered a ferocious national backlash.

Members of the school board say they have been bombarded by thousands of e-mails and phone calls, many of them hurtful and obscene, accusing them of scientific ignorance, pandering to religion and imposing prior restraint on free speech.

Considering the mailed powder and threat. Unlike some, I don’t automatically blame a political ’side’. Compare that to the almost hysterical accusations after the shooting in Arkansas of the Democratic chairman. Instant accusations of “CONS ARE MURDERERS” or things to that affect were rampant.
I prefer to wait for the facts before making up my mind. I don’t believe politics is involved in every single aspect of our lives. For example, an idiot turned left in front of me the other day. I did not immediately blame his politics, just wrote it off to bad driving.

How elitist is that? Talk about snobbery and it’s snobbery that isn’t true or comes from sources that can’t pretend to elevate itself to an higher order just because the elitists say that’s the way it is.

    Arctic thaw opens sea lanes
The Coast Guard opens new stations as oil tankers and cruise ships begin sailing into the formerly frozen seas north of Alaska.

    BY RACHEL D’ORO
    Associated Press

BARROW, Alaska – Rapidly melting ice on Alaska’s Arctic is opening up a new navigable ocean in the extreme north, allowing oil tankers, fishing vessels and even cruise ships to venture into a realm once trolled mostly by indigenous hunters.

The Coast Guard expects so much traffic that it opened two temporary stations on the nation’s northernmost waters, anticipating the day when an ocean the size of the contiguous United States could be ice-free for most of the summer.

“We have to prepare for the world coming to the Arctic,” said Rear Adm. Gene Brooks, commander of the Coast Guard’s Alaska district.

Scientists say global warming has melted the polar sea ice each summer to half the size it was in the 1960s, opening vast stretches of water. Last year, it thawed to its lowest level on record.

The rapid melting has raised speculation that Canada’s Northwest Passage linking the Atlantic and Pacific oceans could one day become a regular shipping lane

The CONs missed a great presentation last night.

The most memorable thing that Frank (note: no “s”) pointed out was that the mid-60’s were the high water mark for modern liberalism, and what did we see?

Very high taxes on the rich and very strong labor unions–the anathama of today’s CONservativism.

Far from the hell on earth that such policies are supposed to produce in CON lore, we saw GDP growth rates of 6.5 percent per annum as opposed to 1/3rd of that now. We had historic high wages as opposed to the continuing fall in wages since Reagan. Wages fell in inflation-adjusted dollars by 1,000/year in Bush’s first term alone.

The political slogan of the Democratic party at that time is almost unutterable today: A growing prosperity, widely shared.

Thomas Frank also touched on the real reason for the housing market speculative bubble and subsequent melt-down–lack of federal regulation.

The Second Glass-Stegall Act prohibited a bank holding company from owning other financial companies. It was done to stop the same “moral hazard” — in which companies that write loans assume no risk — which led to the housing melt-down of The Great Depression.

These provisions were repealed in 1999 by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.

The “free money” loans, the “no money down” mortgages, the “we pay you to take a loan” loans began soon after, and all this bad debt was packaged and sold to big bank holding companies.

The sh!tty economy we are enduring right now is a direct result of de-regulation.

    Cause to effect.

I haven’t read his book, nor Rush’s, nor O’Reillys. I don’t need to have my thinking validated by the conservative of the day as the libs seem to need.

Frank is an author – he wrote a book – he needs to sell that book to make money. That is his income stream. This is a would be major member of the literary community and he had a signing in a small book store. One I actually love and go to often.

Hey capn that is the second time you have asked me about building houses as if I had something to do with that. Wherever you get your info should give you a refund because that couldn’t be further from the truth.

My son is in the process of building a home but that is his project not our business. You really should get a new search engine. The one you have seems to be out of steam. Still waiting for either the name of Rush Limbaughs sister or an ‘I was wrong’ from you.

Outside of Wichita (biggest city), yet more easily accessible. Not that Wellington is a bad place, but what does it have to offer for other entertainment?

    Yeesh.

The only person responsible for those two shootings (and which two would that be, BTW?) are the shooters. Listening go gangsta rap doesn’t make the rapper responsible for drive-bys, though it’s morally reprehensible. Watching a movie with murders in it doesn’t make the moviemaker responsible for a murder.

Responsibility lies with the doer. Period. Your blame game has nothing to do with anything except playing political games. You feel the need to blame someone for everything bad that happens. That reflects on you, P-mom. Not on conservatives.

ok….haven’t you picked up on typical blog tricks? Facts are not necessary, if a lib claims it, it is fact..then repeated enough times it becomes a mantra. Whether it is rush’s imaginary sister or your being in the home building business. Facts aren’t really important to a lot of people here.

It can be frustrating trying to get a straight answer or validation on a claim. When asked, the spin comes back, the obfuscation tricks begin, and then of course the acrimonious insults fly. Any attempt to moderate that results in accusations of “whining” or not being “macho”.

Very predictable….I have seen that pattern repeat itself many times….

The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder Surges to No. 10 on NYTIMES Bestseller List

(from Amazon) Famed Charles Manson prosecutor and three time #1 New York Times bestselling author Vincent Bugliosi has written the most powerful, explosive, and thought-provoking book of his storied career.

In The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder, Bugliosi presents a tight, meticulously researched legal case that puts George W. Bush on trial in an American courtroom for the murder of nearly 4,000 American soldiers fighting the war in Iraq. Bugliosi sets forth the legal architecture and incontrovertible evidence that President Bush took this nation to war in Iraq under false pretenses—a war that has not only caused the deaths of American soldiers but also over 100,000 innocent Iraqi men, women, and children; cost the United States over one trillion dollars thus far with no end in sight; and alienated many American allies in the Western world.

As a prosecutor who is dedicated to seeking justice, Bugliosi, in his inimitable style, delivers a non-partisan argument, free from party lines and instead based upon hard facts and pure objectivity.

A searing indictment of the President and his administration, The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder also outlines a legally credible pathway to holding our highest government officials accountable for their actions, thereby creating a framework for future occupants of the oval office.

Vincent Bugliosi calls for the United States of America to return to the great nation it once was and can be again. He believes the first step to achieving this goal is to bring those responsible for the war in Iraq to justice.

    About the Author

Vincent Bugliosi received his law degree in 1964. In his career at the L.A. County District Attorney’s office, he successfully prosecuted 105 out of 106 felony jury trials, including 21 murder convictions without a single loss. His most famous trial, the Charles Manson case, became the basis of his classic, Helter Skelter, the biggest selling true-crime book in publishing history. Two of Bugliosi’s other books—And the Sea Will Tell and Outrage—also reached #1 on the New York Times hardcover bestseller list. No other American true-crime writer has ever had more than one book that achieved this ranking. His latest book, Reclaiming History: The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy, has been heralded as “epic” and “a book for the ages.”
Bugliosi has uncommonly attained success in two separate and distinct fields, as an author and a lawyer. His excellence as a trial lawyer is best captured in the judgment of his peers. “Bugliosi is as good a prosecutor as there ever was,” Alan Dershowitz says. F. Lee Bailey calls Bugliosi “the quintessential prosecutor.” “There is only one Vince Bugliosi. He’s the best,” says Robert Tanenbaum, for years the top homicide prosecutor in the Manhattan D.A.’s office. Most telling is the comment by Gerry Spence, who squared off against Bugliosi in a twenty-one-hour televised, scriptless “docu-trial” of Lee Harvey Oswald, in which the original key witnesses to the Kennedy assassination testified and were cross-examined. After the Dallas jury returned a guilty verdict in Bugliosi’s favor, Spence said, “No other lawyer in America could have done what Vince did in this case.”

Bugliosi lives with his wife, Gail, in Los Angeles

The Thomas Frank book signing was great last night. Saw many friends there. Took my daughter and she had Frank sign my first edition copy of What’s the Matter with Kansas?. I told her to read it, before she sold it on E-Bay. :) Very sorry I missed Annie Moose.

But let me denigrate the event: It was held at a Independent book store, where those liberal bastards have the gall to charge retail prices! Sarah Bagby brings in all these authors with crazy ideas, some of which manifest in fiction, others in reality – sorry, it is NOT a public service to Wichita to do anything like that!!! Republicans like JWink, those small minded conservatives who have the ability to listen to opposing views (and who actually met Harry S. Truman), were at Watermark last night – it is a bad idea to encourage people like that – check out conservative talking points, number 23. Liberals were smiling and laughing at Watermark last night – also, something that should be avoided at all costs. And, of no small consequence, J. R. was there – taking in all those reactionary ideas – better lock up your stuff conservative folks, he will be out to take them in no time… (will contemplate further, why the whole Frank thing was a bad idea…). :)

So you “open-minded conservatives” can be adequately armed against the painful intrustion of enlightenment, please check out and avoid this store:

Researchers at the government-backed National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology said they created stem cells of the type found in human embryos using the removed wisdom teeth of a 10-year-old girl.”

While not completely opposed to esr, and feel it could possibly be of benefit with tight controls, and the fact the esr is not outlawed, but only kept from federal funding except for the 12 original strains, it seems the mantra, Embryonic stem cell research is the only way, continues to get holes punched in it. If you really want to laugh read the political satire ‘Rick and Bubba for President’. Their plan to cap spending by congress just might work. On the first day of each week each member of congress is given an envelope with the amount of money they are allowed to spend that week inside. When it is gone – no more spending until next week. If they want a big item they have to save until they have enough to pay for it. The best plan I have heard to date.

Seriously nathan, what do we have to do to make you feel better? To make this pain of yours go away?

Do you want all the progressives on the blog to demand that Chas and Linda write ” I will never again Stand the Floor Up” one thousand times on the blackboard?

Would you like us to rap their knuckles with the “Sister Mary Eplains It All To You” commemorative rulers?

Would you like us to make them stay after school and write a note to you saying they are sorry? Using Big Chief tablets and crayons?

I bet you want them to kneel on gravel for twelve hours while they contemplate their sins.

Really, what do we have to say or do to make you feel better?

    KFG,

    The secret is out?

Everytime you liberals get together several of you come on the blog and rub it in the Conservatives faces.

I just think it is rather absurd to both claim that us Conservatives can’t hold an intelligent conversation or be social when we have proven we could do both at nearly every other meet up we have been to.

All of a sudden it is like we are back in grade school where you liberals think you are the cool kids when you get together then you come back here to mock us Conservatives.

Then you say we can’t hold an intelligent conversation?

I think my father has invited many of you out to talk more times than I can count.

Farmie what is it about you and some of the others that makes you feel the need to put others down. Are you so insecure in who you are that this is a pattern you developed for defense?

Nathan merely made an observation. One which others here see also. You are like a bunch of middle schoolers who only have certain ‘friends’ they will be nice to. Can’t sit in the lunch room with anyone ‘outside’ your group.
You feel your strength is in the numbers in your group. Others are treated with contempt if they come to close.

This behavior is distructive in our schools and is discouraged. How did all of you get out of school without learning that.

Steven maybe you all should have a group session and talk about the real

The only thing I ever asked of Chas was for an apology and for him to answer a couple of questions about what he believes in regards to Christ. I never got that and realized I never would so I stopped asking and at the request of several posters as well.

The New York Times reports that the draft U.S.-Iraq deal has U.S. troops pulling out of Iraqi “cities and villages” by June 2009 and combat forces out by 2011. As predicted, the Bush administration is insisting that these timetables are not in fact timetables. Sayeth Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice:

“We have always said that the roles, missions and size of the American forces here, the coalition forces, was based on the conditions on the ground and what is needed.”

And here, the operative “condition on the ground” is Nouri al-Maliki’s desire to retain power, and his mechanism for doing so is to insist on a staggered U.S. withdrawal to undercut his nationalistic rivals. So there’s your consistency right there. In truth, this is a capitulation to reality, the collapse of the main Iraq argument made by George Bush in his second term: timetables for withdrawal will kill you and your grandmother.

  156. Nathaniel

    SolDevVB,

The difference is that the left was demanding timetables before the invasion, during the invasion, and just after the invasion while the circumstances of Iraq where rather uncertain.

Meanwhile, several years later, Iraq has a government, a constitution, voting, a much more capable security force which has assumed control over most of the regions in Iraq, and less violence.

Of course at some point there is going to be a withdrawl and scale back of forces.

That doesn’t inturn mean that the left had it “right” all along.

Half the time I ever say anything to Linda I’ve got Political Mama and a couple of others on my case for “attacking” her.”

No, Nathan, just when you do it day after day and post after post. How many times do you think you have said Chas isn’t a Christian? Altogether?

The Bush administration officially released the new regulations on Thursday protecting pro-life doctors and medical personnel from being forced to participate in abortions, over their religious, ethical, or moral objections. They enforce existing law by putting penalties in place for facilities getting federal funds that subject pro-life doctors to discrimination over abortion.
This would be one of the first regulations obliterated by Obamanation’s administration – if you allow him to be elected.
    - – -

British athlete Tasha Danvers-Smith was one of Britain’s best hopes for gold in the Athens 2004 Summer Olympics, and was castigated by the media and the sports industry when she became pregnant and refused an abortion. She, like Phill Kline, won a Hero at Heart award, and also on August 20 this year, inspired by her three-year-old son, Jaden, won the bronze medal in the Olympic 400 meter hurdles.
We may suppose that the pro-abortion media and sports industry would still rather have had her son dead before he was born.
    - – -

“ . . . essentially adding an additional doctor, who then has to be called in an emergency situation to come in and make these assessments is really designed simply to burden the original decision of the woman and the decision to induce labor and perform an abortion.”
. . . Obamanation, arguing against requiring comfort and medical care for living, breathing, premature babies born alive during abortions
[About 10% to 20% of babies born during induced labor abortions are born alive instead of being crushed to death by contractions, and live anywhere from a few minutes to several hours, if left alone and untouched, as Obamanation still insists should be done.]
    - – -

The only article Obamanation wrote for the Harvard Law Review while he was a law school student, printed in 1990, talked about how fervently believed in legalized abortion. He indicated that government has much more important business that worrying about whether babies are born, that government has an interest instead in “preventing increasing numbers of children from being born in to lives of pain and despair.”
Obviously, Obamanation has been a Judas goat for reducing the black population through a 3-time-higher abortion rate for most of his life.
A new Pew Forum survey shows that abortion is important to the presidential vote of 39% of Americans, which is the main reason that Obamanation is continuing his downward spiral in the polls.

“When you can figure out how to address me properly in regards to my being a Marine, you can lecture me about the improper use of the word “seen.”

    Nope.

I’m right whether or not the Marines have decided they’re better off without you fighting beside them. I’m right whether or not the Marines have decided they’re better off enlisting high school drop-outs and ex-felons than to have you on their side in Iraq or Afghanistan.

“Marines do not refer to themselves as “ex” Marines.”

You mean the Marines who are still fighting for our country? Where are you serving?

The jar-heads who can cut muster are among America’s most valued military assets. They’ve shown good military judgment by choosing to keep you away from the fighting.

You may not like to refer to yourself as an “ex-Marine.” But the Corps seems to think they’re better off without you.

    Sigh….

Nathan? Read your own posts to get a sense of why you are not high on the want to meet or meet again list.

For the record? This was not a “meetup” in the sense that we have had them before. The occasion of a brilliant liberal author visiting Wichita was mentioned some time ago and several liberal posters opined they might like to see the author and one another. Yesterday, kfg mentioned that the day had arrived and that she was coming to town.

Now, I speak only for me here. I DELIBERATELY did not post my intention to attend. I contacted friends off forum and let them know. I did not want to be responsible for you or “Regular” mucking up the works “here” or at the book reading just to get at me. Something which HAS happened before. I WILL say that Hank’s post that he would not attend added positively to my decision. But his presence would not have kept me away. That is the extent of any planning.

So? Don’t flatter yourself or your ilk further, at least at this time, that this was a deliberate snub. Quite honestly? You all just were not much on our minds. We post of the fun we had here for each other and others who we WOULD like to join us in the future. ( Are ya getting me Monkeyhawk) Not to rub it in your face.

All that said? It is FUN to not have to worry about offending you cons. I look forward to helping organize something like that again. We can’t laugh with you. McCain Mail Threat Suspect Charged

ABC News’ Jack Date Reports: Marc Harold Ramsey, the man investigators believe was responsible for mailing a package containing a suspicious powder to the Denver office of Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, will face charges of mailing threatening communications, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court in Denver, earlier today.

The powder was determined to be non-hazardous and non-lethal.

Ramsey allegedly mailed the suspicious package from the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s detention facility, where he has been held since last September on allegations of felony menacing, harassment and felony second degree assault on a peace officer, the complaint says.

According to the complaint, Ramsey admitted to mailing the letter, when interviewed by Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Detective William Gallegos and U.S. Postal Inspector Luis Castrillion, both members of the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force.

The package contained a letter addressed to Senator McCain which said, “IF you are reading this then you are already Dead! Unless of course you can’t or don’t breathe.” The letter closes with “You’re out of time Allahu Akbar,” according to the complaint.

Nebraska ‘Safe-Haven’ Law Permits Parents to Abandon Teens
“Or How Nebraska Develeops the Human equivalent to a Dog Pound”
    Friday, August 22, 2008
    Associated Press

OMAHA, Neb. — Nebraska’s new “safe-haven” law allowing parents to abandon unwanted children at hospitals with no questions asked is unique in a significant way: It goes beyond babies and potentially permits the abandonment of anyone under 19.

While lawmakers may not have intended it, the month-old law raises the possibility that frustrated parents could drop off misbehaving teens or even severely disabled older children with impunity.

“Whether the kid is disabled or unruly or just being a hormonal teenager, the state is saying: ‘Hey, we have a really easy option for you,”‘ said Adam Pertman, executive director of a New York adoption institute and a frequent critic of safe-haven laws.

Nebraska’s approach is surprising because it is the last state in the nation to adopt a safe-haven law.

But instead of following the lead of other states, which focus on the abandonment of newborns, lawmakers here wanted to extend the protection to all minors. And in Nebraska, that goes all the way up to age 19.

“All children deserve our protection,” said Sen. Tom White, who helped broaden the measure. “If we save one child from being abused, it’s well, well worth it.”

White said it doesn’t matter if that child is an infant or three years old or in the care of a parent or baby sitter. As for what constitutes a minor, he refers to common law, which interprets it to be anyone under age 14.

State Sen. Arnie Stuthman, who introduced the original bill dealing only with infants, agreed to the compromise after the bill became stalled in debate.

“The main interest I have is that it gives the mother or a parent another option of what to do with a child before they do something drastic,” he said.

The measure, which took effect July 18, does not absolve people of possible criminal charges — for example, if a child had been beaten.

McCain Campaign Predicts Huge Post-Convention Bump for Obama

John McCain’s presidential campaign, playing an aggressive version of the expectations game, circulated a campaign memo predicting Barack Obama will get a nearly 15-point bump in the opinion polls as a result of next week’s Democratic Convention.

The memo comes as Obama kept the country — and the increasingly frenzied media — in the dark about who he had picked as his vice presidential candidate.

The McCain campaign already is looking at ways to steal some of Obama’s spotlight in the coming week, with a plan for instant responses to speeches by Obama and his supporters.

Even so, McCain aides are predicting that Obama’s short-term success could rival that of Bill Clinton’s, who got a 16-point bump in the polls after he was named the Democrat’s nominee at the 1992 convention in New York.

10 Polar Bears Are Seen Swimming in Open Water

Ten polar bears, an unusually large number, were seen swimming in open water off the northern coast of Alaska recently, some heading for shore and some heading toward the retreating ice in the Chukchi Sea, two federal officials confirmed Friday.

Susanne Miller, the biologist in charge of the polar bear project for the federal Fish and Wildlife Service, said 8 of the 10 bears spotted in the aerial survey had been within 15 miles of shore. One was 35 miles from shore and another one 50, but neither was more than 20 miles from the nearest arctic ice.

Bear sightings in open water were infrequent until about 2004, Ms. Miller said, but rising temperatures have melted much of the ice platform on which they live and hunt for seals. In May, Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne put the United States polar bear population under the protections of the Endangered Species Act, primarily because of the loss of its sea ice habitat.

Illegal Immigrants Returning to Mexico in Record Numbers
    Friday, August 22, 2008

DALLAS — Illegal immigrants are returning home to Mexico in numbers not seen for decades — and the Mexican government may have to deal with a crush on its social services and lower wages once the immigrants arrive.

The Mexican Consulate’s office in Dallas is seeing increasing numbers of Mexican nationals requesting paperwork to go home for good, especially parents who want to know what documentation they’ll need to enroll their children in Mexican schools.

“Those numbers have increased percentage-wise tremendously,” said Enrique Hubbard, the Mexican consul general in Dallas. “In fact, it’s almost 100 percent more this year than it was the previous two years.”

The illegal immigrant population in the U.S. has dropped 11 percent since August of last year, according to the Center for Immigration Studies. Its research shows 1.3 million illegal immigrants have returned to their home countries.

OBAMA’S GLOBAL POVERTY ACT will cost America $70 BILLION per year, to give Americans’ money to “the poor” foreign countries thru that pristine angelic outfit called the UN.

    $70 B I L L I O N ! ! !

That is $223.11 from every man, woman, and child in the USA.

JR, you are a LIB. Just this ONE Lib program will cost you $223.11 x 2 or $446.22 every year to give away to the UN.

R U Paying Your Fair Share??????????

Get out your check book LIBS. Pony up $223.11 x every member of your family, and write it out payable to the U Nited Nations.

What? We don’t have a Progressive Tax System, so what do YOU EXPECT TO PAY for Obama’s plan?

Water Main Break at 15th & Meridian

    Date: August 21, 2008
    Contact: Angela Cato, Water Utilities
    E-mail: ACato@wichita.gov
    Phone: (316) 641-6844

A break in an 8” water main was reported at about 3:30 PM today. The main is located on 15th St., just east of Meridian. The street is closed between Meridian and Sedgwick due to damage from the break and traffic is being diverted. Homes and businesses in the area may experience low-water pressure until the break is repaired. Emerson School at 2330 W. 15th St. is the only location at this time without water.

The cause of the main break is not known. The break should be repaired later tonight, depending on the extent of damage to the pipe.

I said before and I say again. He had no need to deny it anymore that I needed to deny that I beat my employees as you asserted. If politicians defended themselves every time some loon attacked them that is all they would get done.

Look at our blog alone. Bush is accused daily of treason. Should he announce every night that he isn’t guilty of treason?

Do you understand what I was trying to do?
    ———-
You went on to post about me:
“I’m not sure why you suddenly decided to post personal insults to nearly every liberal or non-conservative on this blog today, whether they posted to you or not. Perhaps you overdosed on bitter pills this a.m.? Your nastiness is just as bad as all the rest, right and left, so don’t try to play the poor wounded soul.”

10 things you might not know about Evan Bayh
A 1) What’s his name? His full name is Birch Evans Bayh III. The name originated with his grandfather, Birch Evans Bayh Sr., born in Indiana in 1893.

    2) Family ties: One of his twin sons will keep the family name going. Birch Evans Bayh IV, known as Beau. Evan and Susan Bayh named Beau’s brother Nicholas Harrison Bayh, after distant relative William Henry Harrison. Bayh says he tells his second son: “Nick, you’re named for a president. Beau’s only named for a senator.”

    3) Hoosier roots: Bayh was born Dec. 26, 1955 in Shirkieville, Ind., in Vigo County. In 10 presidential elections from 1960 through 1996, Vigo is one of eight U.S. counties that voted for the winning candidate each time.

    4) Early generations: Bayh’s great-great-grandfather Christopher Bayh emigrated from Germany in 1864, arriving in Indiana knowing no English. He had a tag saying “railroad” on his overalls, so that’s where he went to work.

    5) Inside the White House: As a child Bayh had a sleep-over in the Lincoln Bedroom during the Johnson Administration during which he was awed by the television remote control — rare at the time.

    6) Work history: Encouraged to do physical labor by his parents, who owned a farm in Indiana, he spent three summers during his college years working on the Metro, the Washington, D.C., rail system. He made about $6 an hour and used the money to buy a car. It broke down just blocks from the dealership.

    7) Gubernatorial past: Elected governor of Indiana in 1988, Bayh was the first Democrat in 20 years to hold that office, and — at 32 — became the youngest governor in the U.S. (He took that title from Gov. Bill Clinton of Arkansas.)

    8) Booze ban: His election came during a crackdown on drunken driving, and Bayh banned hard liquor from public events at the governor’s residence, and later banned beer and wine as well.

    9) High on hoops: Also during his first term as Indiana governor, a basketball hoop was installed in the parking lot of the governor’s residence in Indianapolis.

    10) Proven winner: He was re-elected governor November 1992 by more than half a million votes over the No.2 finisher — the largest margin of any governor in modern state history. Running for Senate in 1998, he won with 64 percent of the vote for the largest victory margin by a Democrat in a U.S. Senate race in Indiana.

Unfortunately, he’s about 85 years old now and won’t be around forever, but he has his voice recorded on a couple of his books. Has that mellow, Southern accent that is so pleasant to listen to.

I knew a wonderful man named harold who passed away recently. Irish – and similar to what you describe in your dad.

Hi Hank – I’m sure we would all get along a lot better than many would think …

“How’re the strikers holding up? I’m counting on a long holdout so I can get that boat for cheap. I figure about another 10 days or so – right after labor day.

Gosh they look foolish, standing out there in the heat, losing income each and every hour they are looking foolish.

U.S. Secret Service on Way to Biden’s House; Kaine and Bayh Told Nope on Veep

    August 22, 2008 10:50 PM

The United States Secret Service has dispatched a protective detail to assume the immediate protection of Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del., a source tells ABC News, indicating in all likelihood that Biden has been officially notified that Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, has selected him to be his running mate.

What a stinky ticket that will be if that’s the Obamanation choice.

Maybe they look foolish to you boxlock.

    But that’s just you.

To ME? They look brave and proud and YOU look foolish.

You cling to old prejudices that are going extinct. You are a salesman. The internet will make you extinct. In the meantime? You gotta suck up and meet that quota or you get called to the carpet and chewed out.

See? They have that over you. They don’t get called to the carpet. And when they get abused by management, there is someone like me right there in managements face.

You go sell something while you still can boxy.

    Indie,

I might point out that in the Movie Maverick was cleared of all wrong doing at an official board of inquiry.

Maverick was very egotistical and did take risk, but in the situation where Goose died it was an accident while trying to maneuver into a firing position.

And since we are comparing the two, I do believe that in the end Maverick showed he could be counted on and succesfully destroyed several enemy aircraft.

    “Drill here? Drill now?”

    We’re already doing it.

    And selling there.

Oil exports from the U.S. are currently running at 1.8 million barrels a day – exports that enrich Big Oil but don’t do a thing to reduce prices at the pumps. Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), Chairman of the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming is asking Bush to “keep our oil”.

” …..at the current export rate, by the time the first barrel of oil could be produced from increased offshore drilling, America would have already exported the equivalent of nearly 40 percent of the oil that is projected to lie beneath protected areas offshore.”

And that’s the Big Oil Shuffle, as brought to you by George Bush, John McCain and oil company campaign donations.

Republic Party shit; you’re soaking in it.

“Voters who do not know Rove’s trademark tools of mudslinging, disinformation and innuendo are clueless. The majority fell for the Rove/Bush lies and will fall again, but even lower. Rove’s America has a dark heart, and he will use this darkness to sway the tide. He knows that negative campaigning works and works very well. A positive politician will tell you what he stands for. The negative activist incites hate and division in the guise of patriotism — a form of thin fascism. Do you see the light or darkness?”
