No bounce yet from Biden

Barack Obama hasn’t received any bounce yet from picking Joe Biden as his running mate. Gallup Poll tracking from Aug. 23 to 25 “shows 46 percent of national registered voters backing John McCain and 44 percent supporting Obama, not appreciably different from the previous week’s standing for both candidates. This is the first time since Obama clinched the nomination in early June, though, that McCain has held any kind of advantage over Obama in Gallup Poll Daily tracking.”

Well duh, during the Democrat primaries and caucuses up until he dropped out, Biden consistently polled one to two percent among Democrat voters. He was keeping company in the back of the pack with such illustrious names as Chris (Countryside) Dodd, Mike Gravel, and dare I say, Dennis Kookcinich.
If he couldn’t excite his own party voters, how do you think he would ever excite independents and crossover republican voters?

It had to be a really stupid question if the elder statesman from Delaware was the answer!

Maybe, just maybe, people are getting tired of little barry the messiah. If he doesn’t get a bounce in the polls from the convention, he’s screwed.

There’s talk that McCain may pick Kay Bailey Hutchinson for his VP. She would tear Joe up in the VP debates!

Kay Bailey Hutchinson, from Texas. That would be a good choice! I hadn’t heard that “talk,” but glad to hear it now.

I like Biden and think he adds to the ticket exactly what he needs to add. McCain knows how much Biden knows — about lots of subjects!

McCain should definitely choose a Republican Senator! One from Texas. Since she is only 65 years young she will add youth to the ticket too! That’s the best “talk!” Started my day off perfectly!

Yeah, curiously, Kerry got no post-convention “bounce” at all, even though his VP pick–John Edwards–was the clear second choice among voters, and ran neck-to-neck in the polls against Bush.

So these things are more complicated than we’d like to believe.

I think this nicely lays out the reality of such stats:

Obama shows his inexperience, McCain shows his senility. Neither one worth voting for. Sad situation if that is the best we could do out of 300 million. I was supporting Obaman, still trend a little that way, but more and more he has shown himself to be just another politician. Bending and wafting in the breeze. McCain is certianly no better, most likely worse. Obama is losing my vote, McCain will never get it. sucks.

    A dispatch from the reality-based community –

    McCain qualifications in brief
    by Michael O’Hare
    Category: John McCain

Mark is judging McCain by irrelevant standards; the question is how POW experience qualifies McCain for the White House, not whether it protects against little slips and mistakes. Let’s quickly review, remembering the lessons of history: every bad president in US history lacked POW experience, and not a single one was tortured:

Way underperforms father and grandfather (why do American dynasties almost always turn to weeds in the third generation, like the Bushes?…but that’s another post)
    Really excellent prisoner-of-war
    Near-failing college student
    Distinguished prisoner-of-war
Lousy pilot (OK, more than a third of his five crashes weren’t his fault)
    Competent prisoner-of-war
    Faithless husband and skirt-chaser
    Model prisoner-of-war
    Mediocre to poor senator
    Superb prisoner-of-war
Circulates in a cloud of shady lobbyists
    Wowza prisoner of war
Clueless on too many issues to list
Prisoner of war for a really long time
Admitted econoramus (but has mastered the difference between Shia and Sunni)
Best prisoner-of-war ever; world champion gold medal!

Look at the record above: every one of McCain’s faults is balanced by a (i) much greater accomplishment, that (ii) really matches what a president does.

McCain is hands-down the ex-POW president America has been waiting for.

I think that Senator Hutchinson would be a very good choice.

However, Romney would pretty much garantee Michigan for him. Texas will go for him anyway. Kay would help him a little everywhere, but Michigan is currently a coin toss.

Kay would make Joe look like a ‘mean-ol-white-guy’ in the debates!

McCain is pulling even in the polls for one reason–negative attack ads work.

HW Bush stomped Dukkais with the Willie Horton ad. WorstPresidentEver won re-election thanks to the scurrilous and despicable Swift-Boat Liars.

Obama should be closely examining the small army of servants that the McCain’s hire–you can’t tell me that a guy who doesn’t know exactly how many properties he owns doesn’t have some undocumented workers on the payroll . . .

Besides, we still have the debates in which Grandpa will get to confuse the Shias and Sunnis once again.

“McCain is pulling even in the polls for one reason–negative attack ads work.”
    ——————————————————-
Let me see, there are now a few attack ads against the democrats and they are complaining. They have had attack ads ever since Bush won in 2000 through the mainstream media(NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN), every morning news talk show on the 3 major networks, The View, and even movies and 30 minute sitcoms not to mention even rap songs. That is 8 years of negative attack ads trying to influence the general public. And they are complaining about a few months of attack ads during the actual presidential campaign?! GIVE ME A BREAK!!!

About Obama being down in the polls.
    ——————————————————–
I think we can attribute that to the early start of the campaign kick off. I believe it started early because the democratic party felt that the more time they had the more likely they could convince the public to vote for Hillary. However, it seemed to backfire when they chose Obama for their candidate. Now the extra time is just allowing the public to see what a loser they chose. Not only is he inexperienced but he has a bad rep for his relationships with the radical racist Jeremiah Wright and of course we can’t leave out his wife Michelle Obama. Michelle & Obama act like it was 40 or 50 years ago and say that America doesn’t give black people a chance but they both went to colleges like Princeton & Harvard where a lot of white people don’t even get to go to. And we can’t leave out his relationships with Louis Farakahn and Bill Ayers. If this was a republican candidate, just these two issues alone would have knocked him out of the race. Where is the MSM on this? NOWHERE!

Vietnam vets stirring up a McCain mutiny
    Monday, August 25th 2008, 4:00 AM

Sen. John McCain commands support at many VFW halls across the country. But a squadron of Vietnam vets and POW/MIA advocates is strafing him with decidedly unfriendly fire.

Two-tour Green Beret Ted Sampley, who helped “Swift Boat” Democrat John Kerry in the 2004 presidential race, is now gunning for the GOP White House hopeful.

The organizer of Vietnam Veterans Against John McCain claims the Purple Heart-winning former POW has “never admitted the full extent to which he cooperated with his captors.” Sampley also charges that, in the 1990s, the “unstable” McCain, whom he calls “the Manchurian Candidate,” ignored “credible evidence” that American POWs were still alive in Southeast Asia.

“He wanted to normalize relations with Vietnam,” Sampley tells us. “He took away the only leverage we had for getting those soldiers back. Why? He was paying back the Vietnamese for keeping quiet about him.”

    ******

Expect FOX News to give them hours of airtime like they gave the Swift-boaters last time.

I am an independent voter, and I always thought he should be the VP, if not the President. His foreign policy expertise dwarfs McCain’s inexperience. You know, McCain has served this country, but being a veteran who served time as a POW does not give anyone an entitlement to the Presidency!
