Mobile has different opinion of Boeing

My colleague J.D. Crowe has been sending shots across the bow of Boeing again. Why, er, yes, as a matter of fact, he does happen to be the cartoonist for the Mobile Press-Register, and Mobile is where the Airbus tanker would be assembled. Nevertheless, he’s doing a fine job of defending his local economy. But according to our article last week about the Air Force’s bidding process, the cards are still stacked in Airbus’ favor. And now Boeing is considering not bidding on the new contract.

What is the world coming to? I mean soon we’ll have French-speaking Alabamians speaking such things like “Merci Beau Coup Y’all.”

I’m sure the circulation of the Parisian newspapers will pick up in Alabama and they will take a liking to bree and will be serving up chateau briand instead of barbecue and beans at the local diner.

When the French pull out of Alabama and send all those manufacturing jobs to China, we here in Wichita will just say,

    “C’est la vie”

    (chortles)

That cartoon is innacurate. The Japan Tankers are FAA certified.

Idon’t think the Italian Tanker is as late as the article claims. Although it is late.

On the other hand, none of the British or Australian Tankers have been delivered by Airbus tothe respective customer. And, those were ordered 3-4 years ago. In addition, it was only recently that their refueling boom was certified.

This is definited a viewpoint taken from the Airbus/EADS propaganda point of view.

Oh, and remember, the people that would be assembling the Tanker in Mobile would be former automobile workers.

Alabamans also need to remember that Boeing employs 3,000 Alabamans Huntsville on the space programs there.

If it isn’t about greed, why didn’t they buy both tankers?

Regular – actually, the southern coast of Alabama (Mobile) was founded by the French and they still have a lot of their customs. And I’m sure most of them can spell Brie.

Brie … maybe THAT is the cheese we should give the Boeing people to go with their whine.

PRESS RELEASEE FROM THE DEPT OF DEFENSE!!

SEC GATES Announces TANKER CONTRACT RESULTS!!

“To resolve this long standing dispute about the contractor for this project, we have reached a compromise on a totally new aircraft. The McBoing Tanker , as it is to be known, features the best of both companies design. It is the only aircraft in the world with 4 wings and 2 tails; this aircraft carries so much fuel that it never needs to be refueled! To be fully fair, this aircraft will be manufactured on an oil platform half way between Wichita and Europe.”

Heh! And I thought the WE endorsed tankerless todd because he had so much seniority and power that he could bring home the bacon for doodah.

Thanks for reminding us that he cant do a damn thing to stop the contract from going out of town.

I wonder what reason the WE will have for supporting mr. powerless again in this election?

And boeing is just giving up and not bidding? I guess all their protestations and whining were just sound and fury, signifying nothing.

And patsy roberts cant help? What, no rubber stamp will fix this?

heheheheheheheheheh. Vote republican. It’s easier than thinking…

    And another funny thing…

Wichita, Kansas, and I bet a majority of boeing employees and contractors will STILL vote for mcsame, even though he’s worked against your best interests here.

Thomas Frank is correct. You DO love to vote against your own best interests.

But hey, thank god you are STILL safe from gay marriage….

Mccain even looks kind of French.

I agree that McCain looks French. Obama looks like he could be a French Creole as well. But, race aside, I plan to vote for Obama next election.

The only info on the airbush tanker is preceeded with “will be”, so it hasn’t yet! Better something with a 3 yr. delay than something that ‘will be’.

Isn’t the main point of buy Boeing to keep all the billions in American hands and not the Europeans? (even though I’m sure many Americans have some investment in EADS through their various retirement plans)

Aren’t more American jobs created with a Boeing purchase?

With appropriate intense Congressional and Pentagon (probably a new concept for both of them) oversight many of the concerns based on Boeings recent scandal / product delivery history could be over come ?

With airbus 90 % of the plane will be made outside of the U.S., and the profits will also flow out of the country without taxation.
I bet the numbers would be 90% of the work done in the U.S. with taxes paid on the profits to the U.S.
And, considering that nearly all boeing employees hold boeing stock (not to mention the American people), there just isn’t any financial comparison.
You can bet the number of EADS shares held by Americans is a small percentage compared to those holding boeing.
