The Democrats have suddenly developed a keen sense of morality. John Edwards has been banned from making a speech at the Democratic Convention for having an affair and lying about it.

In his place Bill Clinton will be speaking or perhaps Ted Kennedy.

Brought over from another thread because they are questions that need answering.

How’s this; Colombo–a few questions for Sen. Obama

Excuse me Mr. Obama, I mean Senator Obama, sir. Um . . . know you are busy and important and stuff. I mean running for president is very important and . . . ah . . . I hate to bother you. I will only take a minute ok, sir?

See, I have these missing pieces that are holding me up, and I was wondering sir, if you could take time out of your busy schedule and help me out. You know, no big deal, just some loose ends and things.

Hey, you have a nice place here! The wife sees houses like this on TV all the time and says boy she wishes she had digs like this you know? Is that painting real? Really? Wow. I saw something like that in a museum once!

Oh, sorry sir. I didn’t mean to get off the track. So if you could just help me out a minute and give me some details, I will get right out of your way. I want to close this case and maybe take the wife to Coney Island or something. Ever been to Coney Island ? No, I didn’t think so. . .

Well, listen, anyways, I can’t seem to get some information I need to wrap this up. These things seem to either be locked up or not available. I’m sure it’s just some oversight or glitch or something, so if you could tell me where these things are . . . I . . . I . . . have them written down here somewhere . . . oh wait. Sorry about the smears. It was raining out. I will just read it to you.

Could you help me please find these things, sir?

Oh hey . . . listen! I know you are busy! Is this too much for you now? I mean tell you what. I will come back tomorrow. Give you some time to get these things together, you know? I mean, I know you are busy, so I will just let myself out. I will be back tomorrow. And the day after. . .

Senator Clinton has to make the speech of her life, maybe even the speech of the ages this evening.

She has to be convincing while her heart must be breaking. Next to what Al Gore had to endure in 2000, I don’t know of a politician ever being in such a tough spot.

She has to save Barack Obama and her own political future. She has to be convincing in something she very much does not want to do.

Throw in that it will likely be the most parsed and analyzed speech in history. And by coincidence the most heard and dissected speech by any female politician maybe even ANY politician in history.

    Swing for the fences Hillary!

You are one loyal Hillary supporter. I don’t know how much that helps her but you’ve shown more loyalty than I thought you had in ya.

Sorry for the back handed compliments, I’m just being honest as I think that’s the most honest way to be.
I do respect your loyalty, even though I don’t agree with you on thinking she could do the job.

I can tell you of a politician in a tougher spot — McCain! He not only will not win the presidency but will go back to the Senate marginalized.

Senator Clinton will be in a great position of power! She will use it to improve our lots, our country and when she is ready and the majorities are in place if she wants it she can be

Supreme Court Justice Hillary Rodham Clinton (FOR LIFE!)

Making history for a decade or two!

    What do you think, BlueJay?

Dark pantsuit to hide Hillary’s butt? How would you like to be her tailor? At least Michelle wears a dress. She flaunts it. Michelle is the whole package though. She has a big butt, however, she also has the height to carry it off.

  10. Posted August 26, 2008 at 6:42 pm | Permalink

    I know linda.

I keep reminding myself that Hillary is not going away. I hope she reminds her supporters of that. They need to remember that. They need to hear her say it.

Part of me wants her to make a fight of it. She could take the nomination at this point. And it wouldn’t be stealing anything. She’d be taking something she CAN take within the rules.

I hope that gives her the small comfort it gives me as one of her supporters. Of course, then you have to ask yourself if the prize is worth having.

It really IS taking one for the party maybe against the party’s own best interests. I still worry Obama cannot win.

    But.

    BlueJay sings….

Well yeah he aint in the best place either.

Senator Clinton has the harder job by far.

But consider John McCain. He has to face a room full of people who want him to win the election…

    …and then die.

Not exactly an audience I’D know what to say to!

    Ben,

They can’t look at proof. If they did, they’d be wrong. One refutation is more than enough. Every time they swing that hammer, it swings back on them. They’ll eventually pound themselves into the ground. Most thinking people have caught on to their b.s. by now. The rest aren’t bothering to think. Too easy to follow along and let someone else do the thinking for them.

    Pitiful.

I think you are wrong to sell Hillary short. She is not gone and out. She will be a contributing member of our congress – if not the executive branch for many years.

When Obama makes a mistake, when people realize that he cannot fulfill all the promises for change he has made, when Obama himself realizes we cannot afford all the programs, Hillary will be standing tall and ready to lead.

She may try to unite the party tonight. She may give a moving speech and pledge all of us to Obama. But there are a few of us who will still be behind Hillary, as she still is our best hope.
She has brought minorities and women further than any other leader – we cannot give up the movement now. It is just as important to continue to show our support for Hillary as it is to ensure we have a democrat in the white house.

Obama is a poor second choice to what could have been, and still can be – if we do not give up the fight.

I’ve stated it before, if Republicans had anything positive to run on, why don’t they?

I’ve noticed the Republicans are trying to muddy the waters by all these stupid questions that they know have been answered but they insist on muddying the waters. Why? They have nothing positive to say about their own candidate or their own party.

Could it be because McCain has sold his soul to the devil to get the nomination this time? Even McCain has stated we are worse off than we were 4 years ago. He should know – he was there voting with Bush 95% of the time to bring the policies into place that have brought us to this time and place. If McCain thinks we are worse off than we were 4 years ago, he needs only to look into the mirror and place part of blame on himself.

Republicans only have themselves to blame for this. They had total control of the White House and Congress and they squandered it all, and for what? To make a few fat cats even richer? Hope they’re happy.

As for Hillary Clinton, I think she will be much more powerful in the Senate than the White House. There were too many negatives for her going head to head with McCain. Just being Hillary Clinton had the taste of ‘love her or hate her’.

I find Linda’s idea of Hillary being a Supreme Court Justice intriguing. It would drive the Republicans absolutely crazy and that is exactly what they deserve. Karma has a way of sticking it to people.

I hope Senator Clinton is on top of her oratorical game tonight.

When she’s good, she’s warm and personable and incredibly effective.

When she goes higher in her vocal register and shouts at a microphone three inches a way, not so much.

She has the words and the smarts and the political savvy to know how important she can be in this election. She’s primed to be the Lioness of the Senate; the logical successor of Ted Kennedy’s Senate legacy.

Senator Clinton knows the words; sometimes she doesn’t get the music.

    I betcha it’ll be good.

I betcha it’ll make Cindy McCain fart (albeit only dogs will be able to hear it).

“Israelinsider” is one of the leaders of the tin-foil hat society.

    Check especially the last twosentences:

“We suggest that those who choose to go down that path should first equip themselves with a high-quality tinfoil hat. The evidence is clear: Barack Obama was born in the U.S.A.”"

“You can click on the links to get full-size versions, which haven’t been edited in any way, except that some have been rotated 90 degrees for viewing purposes.

The certificate has all the elements the State Department requires for proving citizenship to obtain a U.S. passport: “your full name, the full name of your parent(s), date and place of birth, sex, date the birth record was filed, and the seal or other certification of the official custodian of such records.” The names, date and place of birth, and filing date are all evident on the scanned version, and you can see the seal above.

The document is a “certification of birth,” also known as a short-form birth certificate. The long form is drawn up by the hospital and includes additional information such as birth weight and parents’ hometowns. The short form is printed by the state and draws from a database with fewer details. The Hawaii Department of Health’s birth record request form does not give the option to request a photocopy of your long-form birth certificate, but their short form has enough information to be acceptable to the State Department.

In fact, the conspiracy would need to be even deeper than our colleagues realized. In late July, a researcher looking to dig up dirt on Obama instead found a birth announcement that had been published in the Honolulu Advertiser on Sunday, Aug. 13, 1961:

    Obama’s birth announcement

The announcement was posted by a pro-Hillary Clinton blogger who grudgingly concluded that Obama “likely” was born Aug. 4, 1961 in Honolulu.

Of course, it’s distantly possible that Obama’s grandparents may have planted the announcement just in case their grandson needed to prove his U.S. citizenship in order to run for president someday. We suggest that those who choose to go down that path should first equip themselves with a high-quality tinfoil hat. The evidence is clear: Barack Obama was born in the U.S.A.”

The part I really liked about that factcheck above is the birth announcement that was in the local paper when Obama was born. Being significantly older than him I have known people who have had trouble getting all their ‘pepers’ together – courthouses burned, records lost etc. BUT – if there was an announcement in the paper by the proud parents, church records, family Bibles etc they are also considered to be records.

So, it is obvious that the Kenyan government was involved right from the beginning. When Obama was born in Kenya they PLANTED a FALSE birth announcement! Man, they REALLY planned ahead!

I dont think there is any way Hillary could let down her supporters. They know she has fought the good fight and is in a “damned if you do, damned if you dont” position.

She has more leadership ability in her little finger than obama will ever develop in his lifetime.

The democrats bought him. Now they have to live with him. If he loses, it will not be Hillary’s fault. No matter HOW hard the obama folks try to spin it. It’s his to lose.

And given the shit hole this country is in, HOW can mcsame be leading in polls and electoral college vote projections? WTF is WRONG with obama? Are Hillary and her supporters really that powerful? I thought he was MORE powerful because he defeated the “clinton machine”.

WTF? The mcsame machine is MORE powerful?

Yeah I know, the only poll that counts is in November. But unless obama gets a whopping and insurmountable bounce from this convention, it’s going to be close at best. For all of paulie’s lying and shilling, he is right about one thing. History has shown democrats need to be FAR ahead at this point if they want to avoid having the election stolen. Mcsame will get his own bounce next week, so any convention bounce for obama will be short lived. I hope it isnt a dead cat bounce.

He better be a better campainger than he has shown us so far. Otherwise?

    “ksfarmgrrl” –

I won’t repost my thoughts about Obama working the rope-a-dope strategy. You can look it up if you want.

Most people were watching the Olympics for the past two weeks, and the ads were overwhelming upbeat from Obama and attack ads from John S (for Senile) McCain the Third. And McC*nt’s positive numbers didn’t raise a bit; he simply nicked at Obama a bit.

I’m listening to Rachel Maddow on MSNBC. I suspect her stirring-the-pot to get the Dems to go after McCain might be a similar rope-a-dope tactic; and I suspect Hillary’s speech might be Ali starting to lay into George Foreman.

    I dunno.

Hillary is setting up for Joe Biden. And I think Biden’s speech tomorrow night might even outshine Barack’s thing on Thursday.

I read your rope a dope comments. And with all due respect, they sounded like whistling past the graveyard. Monkey, if obama shit in the punchbowl you’d LOVE the new flavor. Given that blind devotion to him, I hardly think you are any judge of how obama is doing with the MAJORITY. Look at the polls. Mcsame is leading in enough states to give him a ten point lead if the election were held today.

WTF benefit is there to a rope a dope strategy? It’s an excuse, pure and simple. Obama’s going to back up so grandpa can get a running start and then he’s gonna show off for the crowd and blow grandpa’s doors off?

    heheheheh. Uh huh.

The stakes are pretty high in this election. You seem to think the majority of voters think like you. With all due respect, WHEN TF has that been true? I hold no illusions that the majority of voters think like I do. I think the candidate should fight to win. Obama hasnt shown us that yet. And the clock is ticking.

    We’ll see. Indeed.

No way, no how, NO MCCAIN!

(after a loooong list of our challenges) This will not be easy, progress never is. But it will be IMPOSSIBLE if we don’t do everything necessary to put Barack Obama in the White House.

Government must be about WE THE PEOPLE, not we the favored few. We did it before with President Clinton and the Democrats and if we do our part we’ll do it again with President Obama and the Democrats!

We don’t need four more years of the last eight years!

It makes perfect sense that John McCain and George Bush will be together next week in the TWIN cities because it’s awfully hard to tell them apart!

Captain, with all due respect, I read it on… wait for it… DU yesterday, about mcsame leading in the electoral vote counts. Yeah, I know they are just polls. But it wasnt posted on DU by a concern troll. It was the same guy who always posts the electoral vote map. And you know what I mean. It’s off the greatest page now, and I guess I am not adept enough at DU to search and find it again. But I know I read it, because I had to do a double take and read it again. Mr. C said the same at coffee the other night.

And I’m tellin’ ya, I know your personal stories about your own kids, and I dont doubt it a bit, I mean, hell, they’ve been raised by you all so I would expect nothing less than for them to get to the polls come hell or high water.

But.. all kids are not like yours. And NO candidate for president has EVER had the youth vote actually come through for them on election day. Had they come through for Al Gore, we would have been spared these nightmarish eight years.

    But they didnt.

I hope I am wrong. I hope the youth turn out in droves, that this is a turning point in American politics, and that our election system has integrity and cant be rat phucked. I hope that obama is slyly slacking so he can push with a good kick, like a runner at the finish line. I hope your words go from your fingertips to god’s ears. I hope obama can unify the base he deliberately splintered to win the nomination. I hope mcsame makes some unforgivable gaff and the election isnt close enough to steal.

But… my gut and my thirty plus years of experience and political instincts tell me different. Not because it’s what I want. But because of what I know. If obama wins, you all can rub it in to me for weeks and I’ll try to take it with a smile.

For the sake of this country, I hope I’m wrong. My people, women and gays and rural alike have been thrown under the bus by democrats. Again. I hope it works out for obama. I hope his divisive strategy pays off. I hope he has enough charisma to overcome the lack of substance and the MSM noise from it’s wurlitzer, the republican slime machine and the utter, UTTER stupidity of the American voter.

But what if it doesnt? All the kings horses and all the kings men, wont be able to put America together again.

Like a poker game, the democrats are going all in betting every last chip on obama.

    Do you feel lucky?

If the position isn’t important then why even bother to have it for the #2 slot. Get real.
It is also the last vote in the senate.

Merely pointing out that most people would not pick their vice president with the expectation of getting murdered (with the possible exception of George HW Bush).

It’s assumed that the person chosen for the VP slot should be ready and qualified to be president (duh). I don’t doubt that Biden can handle the job, even though I have my own issues with the man.

Perhaps what you are really saying is that the 2nd choice–particularly from a primary this close–should automatically get the slot.

A defensible idea, I suppose, when they’re in the same party. At the beginning of the republic, the second place winner in the general election became VP. That didn’t work out so good.

    Ok

Can anyone argue that Senator Clinton did not do her very best?

    And still.

Her supporters here. KFG, political mama and myself CAN fight McCain.

    We could ALWAYS fight McCain.

We still need to be made to believe in Obama.

That is on him and on his supporters.

I had a big conversation about this today at the drug store soda fountain in town that is known as politics central :) The fountain, no pun intended, from which much political wisdom flows. The place where I cut my political teeth and learned what REAL democrats believed.

The guy who owns it, my political mentor since I was a little kid, has been an obama supporter, and an avid one, since early in the primary. He asked me what I thought would happen tonight.

I told him I thought Hillary would put all of her soul in convincing her supporters to go to obama’s aid.

And I said with her words, her demeanor, her very BEING, she would make the entire party regret that they had not made her the nominee.

I think I was right on both counts.

Oh yeah, Mr. Hope and Change will give a good’un on Thursday. But tonight? We got a chance to see what presidential looks like. First Teddy and now Hillary have shown the benefits of experience and hard earned wisdom and long term committment to the causes of liberty and justice.

I think barack has his work cut out for him.

PS–Does anyone remember ANYTHING about what was supposedly his greatest speech of his career? The one about race? Yeah. Me neither. I remember he gave one, but I dont remember a damn thing about it.

I hope Thursday night he at least gives a speech that will be remembered for sixty days or so.

    At least.

Heheheheh. And have I mentioned the sign in my office that says “age and treachery will overcome youth and vigor any day”?

Let’s hope that is not true in this election.

Hillary did what she had to do.

It was a trap. Things were set up that if Obama loses, why it was Hillary’s fault!

Well that excuse is gone now.

The fall back excuse that he loses because he is black is still, sadly credible.

I will fight McCain. But I will wait to see what political mama and KFG do. Because I will not leave behind friends to reach out to enemies.

It is game face time Obama. No more pandering. The right has wrecked this country for 20 some years.

18 million of us are ready to fight and hard.

    If only you will.

JR, you should do and support whomever you chose, regardless of Pmom and I. Thanks for the loyalty, god knows how rare that kind of “no friend left behind” loyalty is.

But nothing is going to change for women or gay folks in this election. It’s clear, and it’s too late for us. I think Pmom and I know that. So… do what you will. Your friendship with us is not in question.

Having said that, I have to agree. I’ll fight mcsame, but I cant give obama any more than lukewarm support. It isnt just his treatment of Hillary, his bigoted positions on gay marriage, his pandering to the fundies with mcclurkin, his flip flops on fisa, off shore drilling, and ending the war immediately. No, it isnt any one thing. It is all of the above.

It makes me uneasy that he can divide and conquer with such ease, all the while saying and doing something completely different than what he promised. I dont trust him. But now that the democratic party has made it official, going all in with every chip on obama, I hope they are lucky. I hope he wins.

Because I dont think the US Constitution, or SCOTUS, or any governmental institution can survive four more years of The Wrecking Crew. If we have four more years of bushco, and not four more months as chanted tonight…

Democracy may as well, in concept and practice, take John Prine’s advise to “send my mouth way down south and kiss my ass goodbye”.

Wouldnt it be awful to realize someday that THESE days really were the good ol’ days? ‘Cause that’s what we’re gonna be thinkin’ if grandpa mcsame presides over the final scene, Act Four, of the great freedom experiment.

Oh and nutboy, sorry you wont get your boat for twenty cents on the dollar. Maybe you can find some widow who cant live on a single social security income and whose husband had a cherished boat you can buy at bargain basement prices since the good widow had to liquidate the nonessentials.

That ought to warm your pocketbook and your chrome plated heart as well as stealing some union guy’s boat, no?

Note to union members and strikers alike. Dont sell ANYTHING to ANYONE named Dave. ‘Kay? Dont give him the satisfaction.

In Kansas, I have the curse, and luxury, that my vote does not count anyway.

Senator Clinton has done what she HAD to do for all of us, the party, her future and our future.

I don’t bail on my friends when I do not have to. I don’t bail on my friends even when it seems I have to.

I don’t have to vote for anyone. Hillary Clinton has asked me to vote for Barack Obama.

The rest is up to him.

Back pedal poodle. Back pedal. You would buy a boat if you could get it for twenty cents on the dollar.

Did you get custody of the boat in your divorce? Or did you just buy it afterward?

The Hillary/Obama primary put the Democrats in a difficult position. But can’t you see that if the super-delegates had selected Hillary, the party would crash and burn for all time? Obama won the primaries, and now the Democrats have solidified support among black people for a generation, no matter what happens. Are women really going to vote for a man who opposes birth control? If you do, you deserve exactly what you get.

    Was Flaubert right?
