Well, tonight is Bubba’s night. How long do you think he’ll take to say nothing? He’ll be late then he’ll talk over his allowed time.

Does any one else but me see the irony of allowing Ted (the swimmer) Kennedy and Bill (I didn’t have sex with that woman, Monica Lewinsky) Clinton to have their own night and then hide away John (I ain’t the daddy) Edwards?

    Just wondering,

    hehehehe

I couldnt help thinking about Shirley Chisholm as I watched the vote. I bet she’s a smilin’ down on this convention. On second thought…

She might have supported Hillary! Heheheheh.

God, I miss her, Barbara Jordan, Ann Richards and Stephanie Tubbs Jones. We need these women NOW!

Where will the next generation of fighters come from? Sebelius land? Heheheheheheheheheheheh.

    not

Thank you Hank. Really. And I believe you. It’s not gonna happen though.

I’d be murdered and lying in a ditch before midnight on the day I announced. Somehow, I think I’d be the issue instead of the issues being the issues.

It was a real nice touch that the man who put Obama’s name into nomination is an Iraqi war veteran and a life-long registered Republican. He had some great things to say about our next president!

Wonder if I could find a script of that speech — it was a good one I wouldn’t want anyone to miss!

Yeah MonkeyHawk. Molly would have LOVED this election year. We need her too. Not these jackasses that call themselves pundits. With the exception of Rachel, they arent fit to carry Molly’s shoes.

Except for Dave Barry of course, but that’s a whole different subject…

    Here’s part of it.

    =========

“I’ve seen war up close not as a political slogan or a think tank theory,” said Michael Wilson, an Air Force veteran.

“America needs a president who has the strength and wisdom and courage to talk with our enemies and consult with our allies,” Wilson said to thunderous cheers from an only half-filled Pepsi Center.

“A president who has the judgment to use war as a last resort not as a first resort; a president who can adapt to things that change and a president who will respect our veterans when they come home instead of leaving them without the medical care and benefits they deserve.”

I don’t know, darling. Times they be a-changing. That’s the the problem these days, we seem to be voting for the personality and the charisma instead of the leaders.

We’re getting pollsters instead of statesmen.

You know I could have sworn that someone was trying to tell me something the other night. I am not kidding here- I had a dream that angels came and told me that I had to vote for Obama and I argued with them. I woke up going- ok- I don’t believe in angels. And that very evening I was walking out of the store and I heard choir music- in my head. Really loudly- like some amazing choir song I had never heard before. I felt so stupid because I stopped there with my son- looking around to see if other people could hear it too. Nobody seemed to be stopping. I asked him if he heard music. He said no.

So I’m either going batsheet crazy over this Hillary losing thing- or something. I can’t figure it out. I’m more likely to believe my mind is playing tricks on me.

…and you can’t see the stars at night when they turn on the streetlights.

I’m not sure I’m entirely against political polling. But it is the sociological wah-wah pedal of life in America: a little bit isn’t bad but too much is a bad 80s hair band.

I kinda like it that some politicians (they’re called REPRESENTatives, after all) try to take the pulse of the people they represent. I also think a REPRESENTative sometimes should vote against the whims of partisan rhetoric and represent the best interests of his or her constituents. Personal and political integrity sometimes shows up in the Congress, albeit that’s not the way to bet.

Probably the American politician from my lifetime who I admire the most. I also greatly admire the late, great Paul Tsongas.

But Barbara Jordan…talk about someone who would have had a presidential presence, a mind sharp like few others…

She was born too soon to a country too immature to truly appreciate her.

    “She had an elegant mind.

“A countenance of wisdom, understanding, and wit.”

Not only that (and that is soooo important!), she had PRESENCE, the kind of “don’t f*ck with me” presence that most citizens would want to represent them in the broad, wide world. And it wasn’t something she did, it was simply who she was. She projected not only intelligence but hard earned wisdom.

Truly, when I imagine the most presidential person I can, particularly when I think about politicians from the second half of the 20th century to now….

Barbara Jordan is one of the people I imagine. In fact, she’s pretty much the first person I imagine.

    “Political_mama,” you’re wrong –

I really think President Clinton would be remembered as one of the most successful Presidents in history. If only he’d kept it zipped.

I’m far more liberal than Bill Clinton. And Bill Clinton is far less liberal than the wing-nuts imagined him to be. I didn’t particularly like Clinton’s triangulation strategy. And I think there’s a chance that the flaws from the first term (e.g., DADT, Welfare Reform, even NAFTA) might have been addressed had it not been for Monica Lewinsky.

I think Senator Clinton is a superior policy-tician but not that great a politician. I think she can become the Lioness of the Senate. And I think we’ll all be the better for it.

And that’s a glimpse into just how weird our electoral system is. Hillary gave a better speech, but Bill spoke better.

Some of it is about style.

Funny, isn’t it? How reality keeps getting in the way of fantasy?

The CONs are the fantasists these days.

(An aside: Has anyone else noted that “Franklin,” after about 38 straight hours of manic posting like a crazed weasel, suddenly isn’t around today? Bi-polar? A meth crash and burn? The Rapture? (If so, don’t tell “Nathaniel”. He’ll whine about being left behind.)

I’m pretty sure Franklin is herre under one of his other nics. Its how he makes his living. He needs the money to pay for his house and the x-wife’s house… Maybe he also sells insurance, but can you imagine he does well enough at that to support TWO households?

“Boxlock, the “dems” on this blog have moved waaay beyond Kansas to join the rest of the world!”

Oh yeah, well lets see you vote way beyond Kansas then.

  41. Posted August 27, 2008 at 8:57 pm | Permalink

I suspect that having been found out, my soccer ball, er uh Franklin will lie low for a few days and then emerge in a new nic. This has been his pattern in the past when he gets his foot too far down his throat.

In the capacity he is supposed to operate here, he has to have some level of deniability for posts past.

Bill was good wasn’t he? I never liked Bill that much. But he can turn a phrase and move a room.

    In fact….

Obama is going to have to have a pretty impressive speech to be up to par with those who have gone before. Think he’s up to it?

  42. Posted August 27, 2008 at 8:58 pm | Permalink

“They play Clinton’s campaign song, “Don’t Stop Thinkin’ About Tomorrow,” but the last words are “Yesterday’s gone.”

Damn, Bill looked good, didnt he? I love that man and I would vote for him again, if I could. I wouldnt marry him, but I damn sure would make him president again.

He looked to me like a man at peace. At peace with his legacy, at peace with Hillary’s campaign, at peace with his party. So yeah. I think he’s ok that yesterday is gone, and he will NEVER stop thinking about tomorrow.

Whatever happens with obama, he cant blame it on the Clintons ever again.

And Pmom? I’m feeling the pull myself. I will always be disgusted by obama and his divisive strategy to win the nomination. I will always have a DEEP resentment over the mcclurkin incident, the way he treated Hillary and the way he tried to paint both Clintons as racist. He has one hell of a lot of work to do to EVER make me feel good about him.

But goddamn. Teddy Kennedy makes me proud to be an American. So do Hillary and Bill and Joe Biden. Not proud to be a democrat. Proud to be an American.

We’re stuck with obama. There’s nothing left to do but make sure mcsame and the repukes who have brought this nation to within a hair’s breath of destruction, NEVER get a chance to do it again.

“preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution”.

    What a concept.

And what a concept that we could, once again, awe the world with the power of our example, not the example of our power. Wouldnt it be nice if we set an example of equality and not division?

No, I’m not ditching. I’m just deeply conflicted. Do I hate mcsame or obama more? I dont know. I dont trust obama, or pelosi or reid or sebelius or, well, a hell of a lot of democrats.

But the thought of the repukes and their puppet mcsame completing the shredding of the constitution, the rat phucking of the middle class, the torching of the economy, the destruction of our military, and the wrecking of our government, makes me want to, as the Rude Pundit says, down a fifth of Maker’s Mark with a handful of Xanex…

From barack obama to sebelius all the way down to gail finney, they’ve got to repent for their bigotry and worst and lukewarm acceptance at best, and set a place at the table for the gay community.

And I dont know that ANY of them are big enough to do it. So know, I’m not ditching. I’m still voting for CYNTHIA! At least in Kansas, I can do it without regret that I’m turning over the keys, no pun intended, to the repukes.

    One of my favorite people:
    Garrison Keillor:

Having been called names, one looks back at one’s own angry outbursts over the years, and I recall having once referred to Republicans as “hairy backed swamp developers, fundamentalist bullies, freelance racists, hobby cops, sweatshop tycoons, line jumpers, marsupial moms and aluminum siding salesmen, misanthropic frat boys, ninja dittoheads, shrieking midgets, tax cheats, cheese merchants, cat stranglers, pill pushers, nihilists in golf pants, backed-up Baptists, the grand pooh-bahs of Percodan, mouth breathers, testosterone junkies and brownshirts in pinstripes.” I look at those words now, and “cat stranglers” seems excessive to me.

You and I and political mama still have a role in this.

We will be the voice of the base that Obama thinks he can win without. He has plenty of the faithful. NOW he will pick up many of the go along get along.

We can keep him and his choir conscious of the fact that Obama MUST be answerable to people NOT convinced yet to vote for him.

Obama has been given SO much SO quickly that I fear he may come to see himsel as ABOVE accountability to anyone. That does not serve him, the party, or the country well.

Ya know what I hope? I hope that there are thousands of hecklers (noun, not clones of the poster here) at that stadium tomorrow. Obama NEEDS that. He has had too much unrequited love already.

I really REALLY don’t worry about who might be posting under multiple nyms.

One of the reasons I address other posters with their nyms verbatim is that patent juvenile tone that comes from stuff like “CrapnAmerica” and “MonkeyHock” and the insider-ish references to previous nyms or addressing known first names. I know some guy named “Paul” used to post as “ECON101″ and is now “Franklin.” I know “Nathaniel” used the be “Nathan.” I’m not quite sure whether “ksgrm” became “outlander” or “okobserver” and I don’t really care to keep up.

As I read the archives of this forum I’m astounded by the posters who spew their stuff at six in the morning, all through noon and evening, into the night, overnight. It was like a piecework seamstress spitting out counterfeit Levi’s from a hovel in Honduras.

When do they sleep? Not figuring in the meth, I mean.

I got into a dialog on another thread with “Nathaniel” earlier today. After a while it felt like coaching the Special Olympics synchronized drowning team.

“I shoulda told ‘em to breathe when they had a chance!”

I don’t think “Franklin” is posting under another nym. I suspect “Franklin” might be wallowing in that depressive personal hell that follows a manic episode.

I do find Hillary to be my inspiration- the woman that could- if anyone could- it was her. And she keeps plugging along- no matter how many people call her butt fat- try to get her to iron their shirts.

This has been a dream of mine electing her for …oh my god, when exactly did she start on the healthcare reform? I don’t know, but that is how long. Far longer than anyone even knew of Obama. It wasn’t just about her being a woman, no matter what they say. I truly believe in her- and I just feel kicked in the gut.

But the delegates have voted. Obama makes his acceptance speech tomorrow. It’s a done deal except for dragging Obama back to the base.

    Cont.,
    CAPITAL GAINS TAX

    MCCAIN
0% on home sales up to $500,000 per home (couples). McCain does not propose any change in existing home sales income tax.

    OBAMA
28% on profit from ALL home sales. (How does this affect you? If you sell your home and make a profit, you will pay 28% of your gain on taxes. If you are heading toward retirement and would like to down-size your home or move into a retirement community, 28% of the money you make from your home will go to taxes. This proposal will adversely affect the elderly who are counting on the income from their homes as part of their retirement income.)
    DIVIDEND TAX

    MCCAIN
    15% (no change)

    OBAMA
39.6% – (How will this affect you? If you have any money invested in stock market, IRA, mutual funds, college funds, life insurance, retirement accounts, or anything that pays or reinvests dividends, you will now be paying nearly 40% of the money earned on taxes if Obama becomes president. The experts predict that ‘Higher tax rates on dividends and capital gains would crash the stock market, yet do absolutely nothing to cut the deficit.’)
    INCOME TAX
    MCCAIN

    (no changes)
    Single making 30K – tax $4,500
    Single making 50K – tax $12,500
    Single making 75K – tax $18,750
    Married making 60K- tax $9,000
    Married making 75K – tax $18,750
    Married making 125K – tax $31,250

OBAMA (reversion to pre-Bush tax cuts)
    Single making 30K – tax $8,400
    Single making 50K – tax $14,000
    Single making 75K – tax $23,250
    Married making 60K – tax $16,800
    Married making 75K – tax $21,000
    Married making 125K – tax $38,750
Under Obama, your taxes could almost double!
    INHERITANCE TAX

    MCCAIN
    - 0% (No change, Bush repealed this tax)

    OBAMA
    Restore the inheritance tax
Many families have lost businesses, farms, ranches, and homes that have been in their families for generations because they could not afford the inheritance tax. Those willing their assets to loved ones will only lose them to these taxes.
    NEW TAXES PROPOSED BY OBAMA

New government taxes proposed on homes that are more than 2400 square feet. New gasoline taxes (as if gas weren’t high enough already) New taxes on natural resources consumption (heating gas, water, electricity) New taxes on retirement accounts, and last but not least….New taxes to pay for socialized medicine so we can receive the same level of medical care as other third-world countries!!!

For those that actually produce something Obama and the Dems are a nightmare. I’m glad I just leased a Texas quarter for $175/mineral acre, and got the check today, this year and this years taxes.

Now I’ve got to worry about our 20% split of production if they put a well on. They might not even bother if Obama makes it unprofitable.

Outside of church, Have you ever heard God mentioned as much as it was at the ‘crat convention last night. Opened with a prayer by a rabbi and then it was God bless this and that. May God bless the USA etc.. etc…

Of course, I enjoyed hearing it, sincere of not. It was an acknowledgment of God. But the Democrat party has never been one to play the God card before. So what do you all think, especially you Democrat atheists and agnostics? Sincere, or just a cynical strategy to try to buy a few more votes from the faithful? To try to make themselves more palatable to an America where the majority believe in God.

Personally, I doubt the sincerity. Actions speak much louder.
