Betts isn’t threatening Tiahrt

If state Sen. Donald Betts, D-Wichita, is going to make a serious run at Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, he’d better get running: The 550 likely voters polled early this week by SurveyUSA for KWCH, Channel 12, overwhelmingly favored Tiahrt over Betts, 61 to 30 percent. Even 25 percent of Democrats said they’d vote for Tiahrt. The only bright spot for Betts: 53 percent of those supporting Tiahrt said they could change their mind.

I would SO campaign for Betts! I got to meet him personally in Topeka and wished he was my Senator.

What is stopping you from campaigning for him? In CA, I worked on multiple campaigns in districts other than where I lived. Once they get to the capitol, they affect everyone’s lives, not just those in their district.

yes, it is inconvenient, expensive and time consuming, but I am sure he would appreciate the support.

She really hasn’t the time right now, Rapter. She’s in full denial mode over Hillary’s miserable loss to the messiah.

Miserable? Heck I’m proud as hell of her. She AND Obama made this the most exciting and historic primary ever.

I will give you $50.00 in “gas money” if you promise to stick a bunch of “pro gay marriage” and “legalize pot” and “no blood for oil” bumper stickers on your car.
Also, you have to put a “Betts for Congress” bumper sticker right in the middle of all the other ones! :)

He’d better take off the kid gloves and get down and dirty if he wants to win in kansas. Tiahart has enough of a lead he won’t go negative, unless he has to.

    HEHEHEHE

Last time I saw Tiahrt, he couldn’t remember little Donald’s name!

That’s been a while, I’m sure he’s figured it out by now.

    I’ve NEVER seen Toad Tiahrt.

He doesn’t answer email or letters either.

It’s pretty clear that he is the representative ONLY of the people who can put money in his pockets. It’s really sad that so many people here in the hinterlands don’t get that.

I have met with Tiahrt in his office in DC. He was accomodating, interested in what I had to say, and even followed up (ok, his staff did that part). No donations from me, no big dollars anywhere, and no political favors. Just a constituent with a legislative concern.

Unfortunately, I cannot say that about our two senators. I also had appointments to meet with them, and wound up with staff. Not surprising, but not encouraging, either.

For some reason, Tfart keeps calling me to take part in his “telephone town halls.”

Hoo baby, what a hoot that is!

Ordinary people who know that they’re getting screwed and screwed badly by special interests like Big Oil, and here’s Todd spinning away that we just need “offshore drilling.”

Even the ditto-heads aren’t buying it anymore.

  13. Posted August 22, 2008 at 11:09 am | Permalink

“Even 25 percent of Democrats said they’d vote for Tiahrt.”

Now THAT is sad. Betts would be a fabulous congress critter. He’s a really good man and surrounds himself with really good people.

I guess someone forgot to tell him though that you actually have to CAMPAIGN to win. Especially against an entrenched, big money repuke in a redder than red state.

Donald? PUL-EEEEEEZE get off your fanny and work at this. Seriously dude, we need you in Washington.

    You really are a jerk.
You brag, all the time, about spraying some poor Republican with the garden hose, who came to your house.
You should have gone to jail for that.
However, you get upset when Republicans do not want to talk to YOU????
    You are a degenerate loon.
    Everyone knows it.
That is why everyone avoids you.

I’ve met Donald Betts too. I think he is a very nice man, based on first impressions. I’ve heard nothing but nice things about him.

Pelosi does not need another butt-boy in Washington. Donald is too nice for that.

    BlueJay,

If you are even half as rude in your dealings with Tiahrt as you are with everyone else you disagree with it is no wonder why he doesn’t deal with you.

I have severa friends who have written Tiahrt and have gotten a response.

I know that Tiahrt goes out in town and I have even seen him.

Your characterization of Tiahrt is wrong just like many other things you say.

“That is why everyone avoids you.”

Not true. I must have hugged him ten times last night.

Although, I think he wiped off my kisses with the back of his hand when I wasnt looking…

    hee hee hee heeeeeeeee!

I carry around Congressional Privacy Waiver forms, with me, all the time.
Frequently, my clients are charged penalties that they do not deserve, on their Medicare Part B or Medicare Part D premium.
Tiahrt’s office has responded with excellent speed and efficiency in each and every case, for Democrats, Republicans, Independents or those who do not vote at all.

As much as I hate to say it, every time I have emailed or written Tiahrt, I have received a written response from him. We are on exactly opposite sides of every single issue, so I don’t value his representation much … actually not much at all.

    Farmgrrl?

I am HURT. I would NEVER wipe your kisses away.

Damn that hurts almost as much as when Steven speculated I was going soc.(social, snooty, etc.) because I had gotten a haircut. I did THAT because I was hot.

    I love ya farmgrrl.

Oh and Steven, Capn, kfg, linda, JM, and mrc?

I cite the 11:14 post. Told YA! HehHEH

I’m getting Betts signs for all of my family. It’s not too late for “kick ‘em all out!” to get fat cat rep Toad Tiahrt out.

ANY of the US senators I’ve never gotten a personal reply from any of them, just the usual stock email back- which I appreciate more than wasting a stamp.

    Hmm…

When Bush signed the Transportation Act of 2005, I emailed Brownback, Roberts and Tiahrt asking for a photo of the President signing the bill – I worked for a transportation company at the time – and all three responded.

Brownback was the first and sent me (us – for our customer foyer) a framed copy signed by the President.

Why would anyone support Toad Tiahrt? From taking the tainted money of Jack Abramoff to his failure to keep tanker jobs in Wichita, he’s made it clear he represents Big Corp. Give someone else his job, over and over again he’s proven he’s not working for us.

The Kansas Democrats don’t seem to get it.

Tiarht is the one who is vulnerable to a viable candidate. Betts is a viable candidate if he gets his face and name out there.

Pat Roberts, not so much. He is conservative but he is not an outspoken Christian Right conservative, and unlike Brownback, he is actually senatorial. As a result, he is not vulnerable to the foul weather voter backlash.

Tiahrt is. He’s had some surprisingly close races against some guys who really didn’t really campaign very hard.

But not if the candidate doesn’t campaign, and if the Democratic party decides that Slattery is a better investment than Betts.

If they make that decision (and it appears that they have) then they truly deserve the label that Hank Price would inflict on them anyway.

    Nitwits.

  33. Posted August 23, 2008 at 12:41 pm | Permalink

Agnatha, I totally agree with that post, and thank you for saying it so well.

I also think sebelius is, again, sucking the money, talent and oxygen out of the air in this state’s democratic party, and she’s not even RUNNING this time. Not that she doesnt want Donald to win, but promoting obama and slattery would do more to further her status in the national party.

She’s done with kansas, unless kansas can help her get to the national spotlight.

  34. Posted August 23, 2008 at 12:43 pm | Permalink

“But not if the candidate doesn’t campaign”

God and the democratic party help those who help themselves. I’m wondering if Betts did much to convince them that he would work as hard for himself as he was asking them to work for him.

    He’s a notoriously lazy campaigner.

  35. Posted August 23, 2008 at 12:47 pm | Permalink

Heh JR, I was just kidding about the kisses!

“Betts met with me and I’m not even a constituent. SO please!”

Pmom, I totally agree. I have found Donald Betts to be a FABULOUS office holder. He listens, he’s samrt, he has courage, he does the right thing even when it isnt easy. He’s just not a great campaigner. And todd “goodhair” tfart is.

PLEASE Donald, you can win this. Go do it!

What the Wichita Eagle, KWCH Channel 12 and SurveyUSA failed to mention was that if you are tired of the status quo and want government returned to the people and not special interests you have a third choice and that is Steve Rosile, Libertarian candidate for U.S. House 4th District!
