The name of Gov. Kathleen Sebelius was among those of likely vice presidential picks tossed around the roundtable on “Fox News Sunday.”
Fred Barnes of the Weekly Standard said Sebelius “increasingly makes sense” as Barack Obama’s choice, because she could help at the convention with feminists and Clinton supporters. “If he brings a woman but not Hillary Clinton, who he clearly doesn’t want to be in the West Wing of his White House, then I think that would help.”
Bill Kristol, also of the Weekly Standard, mentioned Sebelius’ Ohio girlhood and father, former Ohio Gov. John Gilligan, as assets. “If you think Ohio is a key state to win, she is as close to being an Ohio politician as anyone can be who is governor of another state.”
Juan Williams of National Public Radio noted that Sebelius has led a heavily Republican state and “has managed to get the Legislature to work with her, so she represents that postpartisan” approach Obama promotes.
But Mara Liasson, also of NPR, countered: “If you’re going to pick a woman, you’d have to really explain why you’re not picking Hillary.”
Said Barnes: “One word: Bill.”

She’s a Bilderberger-biotch (not that anyone knows what that means or knows what The Logan Act is), she’s becoming a great ruinous traitor. She’ll do fine.
Mara Liasson, also of NPR, countered:“If you’re going to pick a woman, you’d have to really explain why you’re not picking Hillary.”

(chortles)
It won’t be an appeasement to Hillary fans. I’m going to tell you that right now.
I like Sebelius just fine, but I want Hillary in the White House and that’s been my position for many years.
Sebelius can go next, and I also want her to be our next Senator.
Faux news would love to stir up a hornets nest for the dems like this.
It’s Hillary or the Highway Obama. And you need our support. That’s a WHOLE lot of Dems you’re basically saying ’screw you’ if you don’t. The Clintons built the party to where it is today.
We will not forget their contribution.
Just great. Sebelius name is tossed around solely because of her gender. I do not care to have the Governor of Kansas boiled down to the ‘Affirmative Action Vice-Presidential Candidate’.
As long as we dont have to re-visit Whitewater, and Vince Foster, and the Secretary of Commerce killed in the plane crash, and Monica…. I could very easily see supporting Hillary for VP…
However, if she does, and they win, then are we guaranteed of replacing Hillary with a Dem. Senator from NY??? If Obama wins POTUS, then we are losing TWO sitting Senators… Can the Party afford to do that??
Those are some of the questions I have… And I dont know if there are really any answers for them at this point…
PMama, I thought Slattery was going to be our next Kansas Senator??
Not to mention Kathleen’s strong foreign policy cred!
Seems to me that anyone as vocal for their nonminority race as political mama is for her gender would be banned from this board. Genderism is ok, as long as female? Anyone advocating for the male species as political mama does for the female would be driven off this board! See her post above for great chauvenistic zeal!
Anyway, yes, Dems, go for the gusto and put together the perfect team to “make a statement” on genderism and race. You will make history. Like in 1984.
1984 — Ahh Yes!!
War is Peace; Freedom is Slavery; Ignorance is Bliss.
Hillary does have some huge balls.
Geez.
Sebelius. The choice of republicans and cons everywhere….
Picking her would be MORE of an insult to the Hillary supporters.
Probably exactly why obama is considering her.
“Hillary does have some huge balls.”
Most women do — we just carry them higher.
Heh heh.
bjb you ignorant twit, your statement had NOTHING to do with my post. I am a true blue Hillary supporter, whether or not she was a woman…just like I am a true blue BILL supporter. Are you saying Bill is a woman now? Moron.
I like Obama, but I don’t like a lot of things about him.
This being one.. he’s stupid to bring this all the way out to convention. My support for him, as much as I WANT to support him is teetering.
And I do very much want to support Obama. He’s making it awfully hard for me to do.
I like Hillary for her leadership, the knocks she took from ignorants like yourself, and the healthcare taht she was SO AHEAD OF THE CURVE ON.
I like Sebelius, don’t get me wrong, I vote for her over and over again. But she’s NOT HILLARY.
Fox News Sunday is telling us what Clinton voters want?
Why not just ask Karl Rove?
This election is increasingly becoming a great big “who cares?” for me.
Sebelius does not help Obama win THIS Hillary Clinton supporter. Though Kathy’s state of the Union “rebuttal” is good bedtime reading.
Here’s the thing, you all complained that we wanted ANY woman- that’s obviously not true. I’m thrilled to have more women yes. I’m thrilled that both Hillary and Sebelius are great women working for our team.
And Sebelius shouldn’t have to be seen as a second fiddle to anyone. What an insult to her.
And ANOTHER THING- (heh, I will stop ranting on my soapbox eventually). I’d had been downright disappointed in Hillary too, had she won and NOT chosen Obama as her VP.
I think I”m done now. At least till someone else posts lol.
I think Obama should offer the VP slot to Hillary. I also think it isn’t a good career move for her, and not the best choice for him. I think she is smart enough to know VP isn’t the path that offers the most opportunity to use her influence.
UNLESS, Obama wants a powerful VP based on the cheney model. I don’t think he does (WHO but a simpleton like bush would??). Obama has stated that he will end the cheney way of doing things come January 2009, that he will not tolerate an unaccountable government operating down the hall from the president. (Did cheney ever decide where he fit? oh, that’s right, he’s too special to fit in a slot or have to follow laws!)
I don’t think Obama wants to outsource the presidency. And I think the voters want that office run by the president. We all know the powerful and corrupt cheney model was disastrous for our country. Maybe Obama will want a VP somewhere in the middle of the traditional weak and the all too powerful.
Why would either Senator Clinton or Gov. Sebelius want the vice presidency? I don’t think it would be the best move for either woman’s career.
It’s interesting — this speculation. Guess everyone has heard by now that Senator Webb removed his name from the guessing game. I’m wondering if Sebelius isn’t more a suggestion of the media than of Obama.
I have been wondering, if he wants a woman, why not the House member from the Houston area… Powerful lady… However, she is black as well… And then, there is that strong, and capable woman from MO, who helped in getting that funding passed to help with the disease like Michael J. Fox has to live with… Cant remember her name off the top of my head… She might do pretty good as VP … IF he wants a woman…
IF he wants a man, I still submit that Gov. Richardson, from New Mexico is the way to go… foreign policy experience… speaks multiple languages… Hispanic (and that could be a great advantage in working through immigration reforms)…
The other Senator who has said NO repeatedly is Joe Biden… Deleware… Says he can better serve in the Senate… I tend to agree with him…
If Hillary is not Obama’s VP choice, he might be smart to look at her as Secretary of State… She could most likely handle that position in good form, and style…
One other female comes to mind… Caroline Kennedy __________…. fill in her last name…
She is extremely politically talented… from what I have seen of her thus far…
she is NOT a consolation prize in fact, as an ardent hillary supporter i would find it INSULTING for obama to chose ANOTHER woman that is not hillary as his VP.
that would be the same as if hillary won and instead of chosing obama to be her running mate she chose harold ford, another black man - to make the black people happy….
I’d suspect Bill Richardson’s high on the short list. A governor, he brings executive experience and his foreign affairs credentials are solid. Not a lot of people associate him as an “Hispanic” candidate (no z in the last name) but he’ll be a powerful campaigner in Florida, Texas, California, Arizona, and his home state.
The really interesting veepstakes faces John Sidney McCain the Third (for Shrub’s 3rd term), and whom will be chosen to be “a heartbeat away” from a doddering septuagenarian.
Mittens Romney has been playing Chester the Terrier to McBush’s Spike the Bulldog (if you remember the old Warner Brothers cartoon). Romney wants it so bad ’cause he thinks McC*nt’s one foot in the grave already.
Huckabee has played it cool. McSame needs the evangelicals and Romney can’t deliver them as effectively as the Huckster.
Former exorcist and current Governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana really makes McCain look old; looks like the houseboy in some Gothic novel whose job it is to follow the patriarch around with a drool cup.
“This being one.. he’s stupid to bring this all the way out to convention.”
Not to be critical, P Mom, but historically the nominee waits until shortly before the convention to make the choice to VP, to get the maximum momentum going into the Party’s convention.
In my view, Hillary will get the VP slot IF she wants it - but I don’t think she does - personally, I think she wants Harry Reid’s job and to inherit the mantle of Ted Kennedy.
I like Governor Sebelius but she would be a poor choice for VP, politically and electorally. It just doesn’t work.
Richardson would be my choice, absent Clinton, and I think that there is a good possibility that Obama will go that way.
Monkey, after an interview I watched last week with Jesse Ventura, McCain might want to give him a good look for VP… Talk about smart as a whip… definitely a Moderate..
BUT, he seems to attract some of the Republican base, even though he was an Independent as MN Governor, and talks like a Libertarian….
Chas, your are speaking of the honorable Sheila Jackson Lee of Houston. I’m pretty sure Texas wants to keep her.
The more time passes, the more obama proves he is just like every other politician in the world. He doesnt give a damn about any position, as long as he follows the polls and gets elected. Then, who knows?
If you are REALLY looking for change, Cynthia McKinney should be your choice.
Or you could listen to the MSM and go with the “Cynthia has no chance” meme. Hey, it keeps the status quo in power that way!
Fox News already blew Jesse Ventura up. Just like they did with Ron Paul. He makes too much sense when he speaks. So Fox doesn’t like him…
Poor mistreated Hillary. Geez, do you suppose Hillary supporters will ever get over it?
Politics is a rough dirty game. I see Hillary as being tough enough to handle it. Too bad her crybaby supporters don’t have near the Moxie that Hillary has.
Let’s sum up. Hillary supporters are mad because they didn’t get their way. They’re in such a snit, they’re prepared to throw the election to the Republicans. I won’t be surprised to see McCain win because of the perfidity of HIllary supporters.
Hillary supporters are the best thing that could have happened for the Republican party.
Some of you Democrats are such patsies.
“Cynthia has no chance” meme. Hey, it keeps the status quo in power that way!
Seems another candidate got shackeled with that as well…
“Chas” –
I kinda like Jesse Ventura’s no-bulls#it style, but I don’t recall him getting much done as Governor of Minnesota. Did it spawn a backlash by the evangelicals and wrestle the state’s GOP to the far right (as in Kansas)?
But “straight talk” is no longer McBush’s brand anymore. I betcha the GOP would be afraid of such a loose cannon that close to the Oval Office.
“If you are REALLY looking for change, Cynthia McKinney should be your choice.”
Moron
“The actual reason why Cynthia McKinney left Congress in 2002 was that, for once, she couldn’t outrun her mouth. She had walked along the cutting edge of progressive politics for years–appearing with Louis Farrakhan, calling globalization a “cruel hoax,” advocating for Zimbabwean dictator Robert Mugabe”
No way this racist hack is ever going to be president. Louis Farrakhan? Robert Mugabe?
Yeah, right…..
heheheheheheheh
Looks like nano had a bowl of whatever peed on cereal granny had….
CYNTHIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do you really think it matters of mcsame or obama gets in the white house?

I’m thinkin’ that falls into the “takes one to know one” catagory.
Hee hee hee heeeeeee….
I see free republic is the source for the mugabe meme.
Why is freeperville so afraid of Cynthia?
That ought to be a good thing right there!
Free republic and the weekly standard.

nano shows true poodle colors.
Hi Butch,
Knew you were coming…I could feel the ground shake.
” And you call Cynthia a nut job?”
Yep
And I call you a perverted flake.
Have a nice day, Butch. Try not to cover your monitor in spittle.
Geez, did nano have another bowl of peed on cereal?
Who knew it was the breakfast of poodle dancers everywhere?
I’m excited for the prospect of Sebelius, but I think Bill Richardson has the weight that he needs for a VP. I won’t vote Hillary into office - she stands for old feminism and has a huge chip on her shoulder. Plus, what to do with Bill?
hee hee hee heeeeee…
just to piss off nano, or whatever the nic du jour is today….

what the hell is wrong with feminism? I don’t see how any sane person could be against feminism unless you just don’t know what it is.
Nano, we’re NOT pansies, which is why we won’t settle you idiot.

Here’s a hint p-momma. Lose the lesbians and adopt a anti-abortion stance. Then not only would you be more accepted, you would be like the original feminists like Susan B. Anthony were.
I read internals of a poll of likely Kansas voters the other day and here’s how it breaks out:
38% say they would “never vote for” a candidate they considered pro-choice. And the number of Kansans say they would “never vote for” a candidate they consider to be anti-abortion was… 38%.
In Kansas, f’er cryin’ out loud!
They’ve had decades shouting “Baby killer” at desperate women and shootin’ at doctors and collecting “love offerings” to finance Randal Terry’s ego, and the best the advocates of illegal abortion can come up with is a wash?!
Chris I’ll take that under advisement but feminists have always been progressive. What is ‘outrageous’ now was ‘outrageous’ back then and I’m glad they didn’t take a more ‘in-line’ view. I’ll always work to ensure more civil rights for those who don’t have them, and equality for all.
So no, I won’t throw my fellow feminists, whether they be lesbian or in need of choice, under the bus.
Equality means equality, period.
I think if feminists would acknowledge that abortion shouldn’t be equated to ordering a Big Mac at McDonalds, that would help PMama. It might shut up these idiotic Bible Thumpers, but I won’t hold my breath.
Choice is one thing. But I won’t fund abortions with my tax dollars anymore than I will fund a Church.
Also, a little equity. If my employer must give mothers time off for a baby, then they should give it to fathers as well. That’s just goose and gander.
Those are the only issues I wish Feminists would look into.
Vet, Feminists NEVER equate abortion as being no big deal…that’s why we work SO HARD on prevention…
SAFE LEGAL RARE…haven’t you ever heard that?
And feminists are not at all against paternity leave. Actually feminists have pushed for family medical leave act. Women need the help at home after having a baby, and the men need to bond just as much as we do.
Remember, equality is laundry, equality is mowing the lawn… and 4 am feedings lol..or at least getting up and bringing the baby to you.
