“The cheap populism is really rich coming from Karl Rove,” columnist Maureen Dowd wrote about Rove’s attempt to label Barack Obama as a “coolly arrogant” elitist. She added: “The absurd spectacle of rich white conservatives trying to paint Obama as a watercress sandwich with the crust cut off seems ugly and fake. Obama can be aloof and dismissive at times, and he’s certainly self-regarding, carrying the aura of the Ivy faculty club. But isn’t that better than the aura of the country clubs that tried to keep out blacks?”

Now that the obamaman is presumptive democratic messiah it looks like she’s going to quit making fun of his big ears.
I find it rather amusing that Rove et.al. will label a man who came from modest beginnings as ‘elitist’ just because he sought and acquired an education. It is especially amusing since they won’t do that to the guy who was born with a rich Poppy and got it all handed to him. As Dowd notes; the Country Club is much more ‘blue-blood’ elitist than the Faculty Club.
Little fat man couldn’t make it on his own — so he tied his fortune to Bush —- and screwed the entire country
“Obama can be aloof and dismissive at times, and he’s certainly self-regarding, carrying the aura of the Ivy faculty club.”
Sounds to me like Ms Dowd agrees with Mr. Rove.
“Obama has to prove to Americans that, despite his exotic background and multicultural looks, he shares or at least respects their values and understands why they would be upset about his associations with the Rev. Wright and an ex-Weatherman.”
Maureen Dowd, April 20, 2008
“But Saint Obama played the politics of character to an absurd extent. For 14 months, his argument for leading the world has been himself — his exquisitely globalized self.”
Maureen Dowd, March 18, 2008
“He seems more like a child prodigy. Those enraptured with his gifts urge him on, like anxious parents, trying to pull that sustained, dazzling performance out of him that they believe he’s capable of; they are willing to put up with the prodigy’s occasional listlessness and crabbiness, his flights of self-regard and self-righteousness.”
Maureen Dowd, December 7, 2007
It would appear that Maureen’s opinion has been evolving since her joke about his big ears. When the ‘messiah’ is all you got, go with him.
What is funniest about the Obamanation is the way he tries to stay above the fray and send his henchmen out to do his dirty work like Wesley Clark did. He then reacts as if he had no idea this was going to happen.
Two things: If he were the man McCain is he would denounce Clark for what he said and insist that he apologize for his statement. Second point if this would be prez is unable to control his henchmen in his run for the office how effective will he be when in the Oval Office?
He is a cheap politician who thinks the general public is dumb and will accept anything he says - he is right about most of the left, the right and part of the left aren’t falling for his bull. That will be his achilles heel.
Karl Rove is a goon. His life course was set when he got beat up by a girl. NOW he wants to play at populism when he has spent his life being a dog for people who gave him money to be a dog?
okob - is this what he should apologize for?
“What General Wesley Clark actually said: “I certainly honor his service as a prisoner of war. He was a hero to me and to hundreds of thousands of millions of others in the Armed Forces as a prisoner of war. He has been a voice on the Senate Armed Services Committee, and he has traveled all over the world.”
mediamatters.org/items/200806300002?f=h_top”
You repukes sure have thin skin!
OKOB, Clark specifically said that he acted on his own. His exact words “Barack Obama didn’t know anything about what I said.’
Was Wesley Clark lying when he said that?
If not, then your Henchman comment is wrong.
You’re correct okobserver,
General Wesley Clark is the former Clinton butt-boy liberal. The dems wheel him out anytime they want to trash the military carreers of a republican.
He is a proven liar. When he retired he sold out to the highest bidder to start his political carreer, the DNC was the only bidder.
What is funniest about the Bush campaign (2000) is the way he tries to stay above the fray and send his henchmen out to do his dirty work like the whisper campaign that McCain had fathered a illegitimate black child. He then reacts as if he had no idea this was going to happen.
Interesting that anyone who strays from the Rove-Bush path is a “proven liar”
By the way - how is that search for all those WMDs coming along? “We know where they are … “
Trashing the careers of veterans….
Hmmm…who was it started in with that tactic?
Why YES it was Karl Rove “the architect” who helped and orchestrated the lies of the Swift Boat liars for bush. That and that mouse voiced little leader of the “swifties”.
And not just Kerry - Murtha and McClelland as well.
butt-boy liberal … He is a proven liar … sold out to the highest bidder
Looks like some more trashing …
I know it’s not fair to categorize people by their appearance, but every time I see Rove he reminds me of a human possum!
gster - how did you come up with that? The human part that is …
And it is amusing how the Prices seem to insist that service to country be taken seriously…except when it shouldn’t.
IOIYAR indeed.
Rove is the master of the dirty trick and the misdirection. I would not be shocked if he was the guy behind Rathergate, and I certainly suspect he was behind the nasty rumor in South Carolina in 2000.
That being said, I was not entirely comfortable with Clark’s comments, and I don’t like the idea of looking through the service record of McCain to attack him. You know, like what was done to the last presidential candidate with the first name of John.
LOL Ben!
When the good general retired he said he would’ve been a republican but Rove wuldn’t return his calls! Of course a search of Rove’s phone records showed no attempt by Clark to ever contact Rove.
Absolutly no connection between the SBVT and Rove, none. No one in the administration has ever bad mouthed McClelland, never. Same for Murtha. Kerry? Doesn’t have any medals, he threw them over the gates at the Whitehouse to get elected.
Not trashing, the truth.
Murtha has no proof for the medals he says he was awarded. McClelland blew his legs off with his own hand grenade while going for a beer.
Ben- I consulted the “animal” possums , and they won’t claim him! I was even threatened.
Heh Gster. I hear the racoons refuse to wear a “rove skin cap” too!
I wonder if his nick name was ” The Snout”?
HLP. Find a connection between Clark and Obama.
NONE
That’s why you have to call Clark a liar. That’s the only way to keep your paradigm alive.
You neocons said the same things in 2000 and 2004. Just because John McCain served in war, doesn’t make him more qualified than Bush. Just because John Kerry served in war, doesn’t make him more qualified than Bush.
Now your words are being used against you. And you are getting mad.
Hey LLVET, John Kerry rejected the War,the United States military and stabbed his fellow soldier in the heart with lies and fabricated stories - threw his medals away and pretty much disassociated himself from the military.
I keep forgetting Regular. Veterans aren’t supposed to challenge a war. They aren’t supposed to show THAT type of Moral Courage.
You can’t be a real veteran unless you support Bush.
You can’t support the troops unless you support Bush.
I keep forgetting all of these cowardly rules you live by.
I keep forgetting that a true patriot won’t challenge some draft dodging C$(K Sucker like Dubya who used his Daddy’s influence to get into the Nasty Girls (National Guard) You are a Vietnam Vet. Where is your honor if that doesn’t bother you?
No, you want to call Kerry a traitor. The guy who spoke of issues like this one that I was told about by Sergeant Major Wolfe:
11th ACR In a firefight, winning, and the G-2 told us to disengage. That was strange. Why? Turned out that Michelin had Rubber Trees in the area. That is why.
It is that type of mentality that is the reason why John McCain had to take almost 3 years to show everyone how much of a goat screw Dubya made of that war.
congratulations.

No, one just can’t speak out of both sides of their mouth and say they support the military, then condemn it in the next instance.
The concept is so simple, even a caveman can understand it.
This is how easy it is Regular. You can condemn Bush and that is HOW you support the military. Because he is a pathetic Commander in Chief. Like many did with Clinton.
So easy a caveman can understand it

Actually, I voted for Clinton the first time and had very little problem with his terms as President with large exception for his weasel and stained dress episode.
So, how shall I put it? Your assumptions are wrong as usual.
oh, so no veterans ever criticized Clinton. Just because you didn’t? Once again, your logic stretches. Many people did. You know they did.
They can also criticize Dubya. The point still stands. But that was a nice try.
VET - you don’t understand. If the CIVILIAN leadership chooses to abuse the military you must support the CIVILIANS in order to claim you are supporting the military. And if the administration wants to curtail veterans benefits you must support those cuts in order to be supporting the military.
So easy even a rightie can understand it.
I see that LLVET and Ben are playing the domino parlor cynical curmudgeons today.
We leave them be with their fresh goat’s milk and anti-acid medications.
?
And I guess Regular is playing his usual head-in-the-sand ignorant rightie role. We leave him with a large supply of “Limbaugh whites”

Gster,
The possums in my neighborhood say they are very offended by the above remark.
Uh, Ben, with all due respect…
I thought “whites” were speed? And I thought rush was addicted to oxy, which is a downer?
But iirc, oxy is white too, so you may be right. Maybe a Limbaugh White is a downer.
I sure know limbaugh is….
My take on the whole “elitism” BS claim:
The rich country club set don’t like it when an ordinary eprson gets “uppity.” I saw that with some of the students at Harvard - the preppie ones - and how they looked down on the “scholarship” kids who had the audacity to challenge their status. Seems they didn’t figure we belonged in their “class”
How about answering my question regular? Are you saying that no veteran ever criticized Clinton?
Are you saying they shouldn’t have?
Or is it that a veteran can criticize Clinton, but not Bush?
Please. I want to hear this one.
Heh Steven, I think George Jones is offended too. Dont they call him The Ol’ Possum?
LOL ksfg
good point ksfg - but I think whites can be either. And Limbaugh whites would be oxy
“and if you give me weed, whites and wine, and you show me a sign, I’ll be willing, to keep moving…”
Little Feat!
Steven- Don’t tell them what I look like– I’ve got enough problems as it is!

Lowell George. Reminds me of the days in Haze, Kansas.
Didn’t they do “Dixie Chicken”?
heh, yeah Steven. It was “hazey” in the seventies.
And gster, they did.
“if you’ll be my dixie chicken, I’ll be your tennessee lamb”
my second faves next to John Prine…
“Grandpa, tell me ’bout the good ol’ days”.
I have over 300 LPs in my basement , and Little Feat is ther with a bunch of Stones, etc. I think it’s time I get cartridge or a new player and re-enjoy them before they or I turn to dust!
