Rage, the blog had “technical difficulties” last night. Had nothing to do with the content of your posts.

But on the subject, I find the court ordering YouTube to turn over info to Viacom at LEAST as disturbing as warrantless wiretapping.

The retroactive immunity is just inexcusable under any circumstance. But then, I think warrantless wiretapping is too.

Phuck you viacom and the court you rode in on!

If I seem very frustrated it’s because the prevailing assumption among the stupid and politicos (I repeat myself) is that, even if this new type of surveillance violates the prohibition against “general warrants” that gave us the Fourth Amendment in the first place, surely the increased security of such measures makes them inevitable.

Yeah, yeah, I know all the arguments of the difficulty of tracing IP addresses to exact locations. It’s mostly crap (in the Western world, it’s a non-issue), but it’s idiotic to presume that dragnet sweeps of international communications from United States will help, in any way.

In fact, many experts agree with what I concluded at the outset: the more data, the more complexity, the false positives—and false negatives. It’s a lazy-and-stupid person’s method for fighting terrorism. And I don’t care if the method is data mining, pattern mining or whatnot. “Garbage in, garbage out” still applies.

The tabloid media–CNN, Fox, MSNBC etc.–sucks. They have no interest at looking at any of the real issues. FISA is not covered, expect in asinine terms of Obama “moving to the center.” Like retroactively approving illegal activities of the Executive Branch is “moving to the center.”

Good luck with that.
Just when I thought I’d made up my mind to support Obama come new reports out of DC that Kevin Martin will resign as FCC chair in late 2009 if Obama becomes president.
If Kyle McSlarrow’s mouthy brags are true, there goes the digital transition… unless the other rumor I’ve heard is true–that Obama is considering replacing Martin with former Pennsylvania congressman Ron Klink.
I’d much rather he replace Adelson, who has become wayyy too chummy with the cable industry for my liking.
