Speaking last week in Missouri, Barack Obama offered effusive praise for Gov. Kathleen Sebelius and, some thought, a veepstakes hint:
“I love Kathleen Sebelius. I think she is as talented a public official as there is right now. Integrity. Competence. She can work with all people of all walks of life, but I promised that I am not going to say anything about my vice president until I actually introduce my vice president.”

I keep trying to guess who Obama will pick as a running mate: Hilary Clinton, Al Gore, Kathleen Sebelius, Colin Powell …? I don’t have a clue. We’ll just have to sit back and wait for an announcement!
Odds are Gov. Sebelius will not get the nod, but it sure sounds like a “Freudian Slip” to me.
WOW! What a statement. I’ve always thought speculation about Gov. Sebelius as VP was overblown, but this sure gives one pause, doesn’t it? I am anxious to hear who both Obama and McCain choose as a running mate.
I think coming off the Cheney era there are more questions than usual. Some speculate that Obama’s lack of experience and McCain’s age make this choice more important. I wonder what role either candidate wants their VP to fill? How much power do they want this person to wield? Will we ever have such an out-sourcing of the powers of the president as we’ve seen in the Cheney era? What will the role of vice president be in the next administration? Do the voters need reassurance in the form of the second in command to fill some lack they see in either candidate?
Obama has spoken out on this subject by telling us his administration will put an end to the Cheney way of doing things. He says he won’t tolerat4e an unaccountable government operating down the hall from the president.
Has McCain said anything?
“She can work with all people of all walks of life,”
In other words, she has no core and no principles.
I fear the same is true of Obama.
MY vote is for Cynthia McKinney.
Aw, jeez, “BlueJay” –
Your response to –
“She can work with all people of all walks of life,””…
with…
“…she has no core and no principles,” is admirable for your idealism but woefully naive vis a vis reality.
Most of us still subscribe to the the philosophy, “Politics is the art of the possible.”
I don’t think Sebelius is the best choice for Obama’s vice-president, mostly because I think she’s better suited to be a great United States senatorial candidate in 2010.
I don’t think she’s got the chops to be an effective national candidate… yet. Not ready for prime time… yet; but with nuts-and-bolts policy matters, there aren’t many better.
Reality, Monkeyhawk, is what it is and what we make of it.
Reality is that Republicans and their ideals have badly failed and damaged America. Reality is that the cons KNOW this and they are scared to the point of night sweats.
Reality is that we do not have to make nice with them anymore.
““I love Kathleen Sebelius. I think she is as talented a public official as there is right now. ”
Oh yeah. That State of the Union rebuttal she gave was one for the ages. Tonight when this thread goes to bed with less than 20 posts, maybe I’ll link her speech here to help people doze off.
I guess my problem with your apporach, “BlueJay,” is this –
Not all traditional Republic Party partisans are as crazy as the wingnuts we deal with here at WE Blog.
I sometimes socialize with some lifelong Republic Party members who are flat out ashamed of what their party has become with its corruption of traditional conservative values.
Compared to most Western democracies, the most liberal politicians in America would be solidly in the conservative camps overseas.
It’s a cryin’ shame, I’ll grant you.
But part of this little constitutional republic is based on, depends on, a certain amount of compromise.
If I acted on my political id I, too, would want to take power and rub every CON’s nose in the s#it their policies have created.
But it wouldn’t accomplish all that much, I suspect. They’re so full of s#it, they wallow in it.
There are a lot of people who ended up voting for Shrub twice who have (finally) seen the errors of their ways. They’re not inclined to vote for Shrub’s 3rd term. Don’t throw ‘em off the bandwagon arbitrarily.
And — forgive me for returning to this thread’s topic — part of Sebelius’ skill as a politician and a leader is that she connected with and worked with traditional Kassebaum Republicans to prevent the crazies from taking over the Kansas Republic Party entirely; or she’s leveraged that craziness into better public policy.
Sebelius as V.P., you read it on Weblog first.
BLUEJAY! That is the most anti-American statement I have seen in a long time!!!
I am shocked at your ignorance of how politics works in a free society. It is about engagement and discussion and even compromise.
Only totalitarian dictators need answer only to themselves… until they get the noose.
Voting in Kathleen will not make nice with the HIllary supporters. If he thinks he can pull that, he’s sorely mistaken.
Sorry I agree with JR on this. They only want to play nice now because their heads are on the chopping block.
I am really starting to think that maybe she is the best choice here. There are lots of good choices but she is somebody who is liked and respected by even some Republicans and her executive experience will help him. At the same time she is not somebody like a Hillary that would over shadow him as the President.
