Not a real Senate race after all?

robertspatSen. Pat Roberts’ feel-good TV ad blitz seems to be working: The Kansas Republican’s latest poll, conducted by TargetPoint Consulting between June 27 and July 1, shows him with 54 percent support, which is 20 points ahead of Democratic challenger Jim Slattery.
Meanwhile, political (and baseball) analyst Nate Silver gives Roberts a 90 percent chance of winning.

Yay, we Kansans are still retarded, after all these years.

54% support, one can only conclude that there is a persistent inbreeding problem in Kansas.

after one internal poll from the Roberts campaign you’re saying the race isn’t as hot as the rest of the polls have suggested…even before Slattery has had a single ad on TV?

    this is objective journalism?

Weak fundraising showing for Slatts this quarter AND the one before.

Maybe the national democrats, Howard Dean and Chuck Schumer, can swoop in and save him with a big cash infusion right at the very end.

Then he could be bought and paid for by the national democrat’s agenda; therefore at their mercy as a freshman in the Senate.

Either way, we know Slatts is not going to come back to KS and stick around. What would he do here anyways, move back to Atchison and “plant potatoes”?

Multi-million dollar special interest Lobbyist as our U.S. Senator – what’s classy and Kansan about that???

Nothing. That’s why many of us are ready for Roberts to be UNelected..

Ya mean, the rising blue tide isn’t sweeping everything before it? Gosh, I thought the self-described “progressives” were unstoppable! And with typical lefty arrogance, they conclude that anyone who dares to disagree with them is “retarded” or “stupid.”

That’s how they justify such self-rightousness, don’t ya know. The left just KNOWS better.

    Heh. Typical.

GMC70, You bring the word stupid to the thread, one mention of retarded prior to your post covered Kansans. But I’m sure it must be only the members of the Democratic Party who are posting partisan comments. They’re also the only people in the world who are arrogant, self righteous or would not be tolerant of disagreements. We’ll look to your post for proof of that.

When did you become one of those self-righteous, lefty arrogant progressives?

No, I claim retardation for Kansan’ in that we will NEVER learn from history.

Sooo, maybe not “retarded”, but possibly a collective insanity?

Try as you may, you will not get me to fight in your “retarded” and “stupid” left/right arguments. This fight of mine deals with historical facts and past performances of these devil’s, regardless of “party affiliation”.

Robetrs will focus heavily on his seniority as an asset. He is also touting his occassional straying from the Bush line such as his support of SCHIP. In red Kansas he will be re-elected easily. However, he and Kansas will find that his seniority will matter little in the new congress.

The paper should be doing one of those ‘truth in advertising’ segments. Comparing the candidates ads. with their voting records. Roberts would probably get a pass on schips, but not on the tanker commercial.
Also, since it looks like a strong dem. congress majority is shaping up, will they endorse the dems. as having more clout for the state, the way they endorsed the Repubs.?

    “bth” asserts –

“Robetrs will focus heavily on his seniority as an asset.”

Which is a joke for two reasons. One, as a member of the minority party every Republic Party Senator ranks lower than the newest Democratic Senator.

But look at where Roberts’ vaunted seniority got him even when the GOP was in the majority: chairman of the Intelligence Committee. Intelligence isn’t a highly-regarded committee assignment in the Senate (largely because there’s no money to speak of involved with it). And Roberts’ tenure as chairman of Intelligence was notable only for his report that was due before the 2006 congressional elections.

Roberts is a not-too-bright, not-well-respected, back-bench partisan hack. In this respect he’s an ideal representative for most Western Kansas voters.

The only time Roberts was concerned about FISA was, when the NYT leaked the illegal activities of the ‘we don’t spy on Americans’ Administration. Slattery needs to play the true side of Roberts record to unseat him.

MH – agreed 100%. But it will still work for him just like it did with Tiahrt. Also, he will have the ‘liberal’ media behind him like Tiahrt did in 2006.

after one internal poll from the slattery campaign that showed roberts down 4% it suddenly became a “competitive race.” Never mind Slattery was also down 4% in his own poll! Now that’s something to be proud of, isn’t it???

This is what you call objective journalism…Slattery’s internal poll makes the print edition of the Topeka, KC, Lawrence and Wichita papers but Roberts spike makes it in the WE blog and a last place mention on PrimeBuzz in the Star.

Quit whining…I know you’re a democrat and good at it, but please try and stop yourself for once and actually look at the facts.

It doesn’t look like Slattery really wants to win. He was all for Boeiing losing the contract so he could blame Roberts. Then Roberts helped get that deal back on track and all Slattery could come up with was “WAAAAA!!!”. Slattery did deliver to Kansans a huge tax increase, but he refuses to brag about it. Go figure.

  21. Posted July 12, 2008 at 9:16 am | Permalink

A higher interest rate will usually cause a stronger currency because it will attract Roberts. His seniority is that you’re not involved in the thread against Roberts. This can be the Bush line, since it means they have money to lose.
