There’s speculation that John McCain may announce his vice presidential pick by the end of this week. The buzz is that it will be either former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney or Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (in photo), who is scheduled to meet with McCain Wednesday.
Meanwhile, McCain is trying to weather Barack Obama’s trip overseas and the news coverage of cheering U.S. soldiers and Iraqi support for Obama’s withdrawal timetable.

Jindal would be an intriguing choice. Young, looks ’squeeky-clean’, could be a good choice.
Actually Ben, he wouldn’t make a bad President.
Phil
You have this backwards.
Obama went on his trip BECAUSE Americans do not think Obama would make a good Commander in Chief.
Obama is now, obviously, one of the worst opportunists in history, trying to take credit for our success in Iraq.
Obama is a stuttering, clueless empty suit.
On the running mate issue, Obama is the one with the huge problem.
Obama has so MANY weaknesses, what weakness will Obama have to ignore?
McCain? McCain picks a conservative running mate, either Romney or Jindall, and McCain has not dissed anyone in the Republican base.
Obama? Obama’s choice is far more tricky.
Obama is very, very weak on defense. Obama is weak on crime. Obama will have trouble with Hillary supporters if he does not pick Hillary.
Obama will have huge trouble, of a different type, if he does pick Hillary.
McCain’s pick will NOT hurt McCain.
It is more than likely that Obama’s pick will hurt Obama.

10 Things You Didn’t Know About Bobby Jindal
Bobby Jindal is the governor of Louisiana and a former congressman and is thought to be a possible running mate for McCain.
1. The son of immigrants from India’s Punjab state, Jindal made history when he became the first U.S. governor with roots in India.
2. Born Piyush Jindal in Baton Rouge in 1971, he gave himself the nickname Bobby—after the youngest son on The Brady Bunch—when he was 4.
3. Raised a Hindu, Jindal converted to Catholicism as a teenager. As a young convert, he wrote of the emotional and intellectual struggles of his spiritual journey in several articles that were published in the New Oxford Review, a Catholic magazine.
4. Jindal graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1987. He attended Brown University, graduating with honors in biology and public policy. He turned down admissions to medical and law schools at Harvard and Yale to attend Oxford University as a Rhodes scholar.
5. While attending Oxford, Jindal contemplated joining the priesthood. He ultimately decided that it was not for him.
6. In 2006, Jindal and his wife, Supriya, delivered their third child at home. Barely able to call 911 before the delivery, Jindal received a nurse’s coaching by phone. Just as he was completing the umbilical cord procedure with a shoestring, paramedics arrived. The Jindals have a daughter and two sons.
7. Before he turned 30, Jindal headed Louisiana’s Department of Health and Hospitals and became president of the University of Louisiana System. He served in the Department of Health and Human Services under President George W. Bush and was executive director of the National Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare in the late ’90s. Prior to public service, Jindal worked for the consulting firm McKinsey & Co.
8. In 2003, Gov. Mike Foster, who was finishing his second consecutive term and therefore could not run again, encouraged Jindal to run for governor. Defeated by Democrat Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, Jindal’s first bid for governor was unsuccessful.
9. In 2004, he sought the congressional seat from Louisiana’s First District. He won with a whopping 78 percent of the vote and was re-elected in 2006 with almost 90 percent.
10. In 2007, Jindal ran for governor again and won. The victory was largely attributed to old-fashioned politicking, which included Jindal “giving testimony” in Pentecostal and Baptist churches in rural and remote sections of Louisiana.

I guess your right Linda. Too many idiots won’t vote for him because they think he is a Muslim. Oops, I mean Hindu.
Jindal? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!
he’s a homophobic wingnut who communes with snake handlers in the republican swamps of loooosiana.
I hope mcsame picks him and ends that little phucker’s “career” before it gets too far.
And that has NOTHING to do with him being from India.
A wingnut is a wingnut is a wingnut, no matter their ethnicity
Wow, “Franklin” –
Do you get dizzy from all that spinning?
If John Sidney McCain the Third (for Shrub’s 3rd term) picks Jindall, he loses all the “Obama is too young and inexperienced” rhetoric you cling to. It’s even more treacherous because Bayou Bobby hasn’t been through the trial of fire that is the primary system. He’s a gaffe waiting to happen. And just standing next to McC*nt, he reminds everyone of just how old the Republic Party nominee is. And how likely it is he’ll take the beeg Dirt Nap before his first term would be over.
Mittens proved himself to be a Ken Doll candidate (with the same, ahem, crotchal equipment), and there are hours of debate footage of McBush sliming Romney. Between the two, McSame and Mittens have taken a “firm principled stance” on just about every side of every issue that’s come up this election year.
And, even though he’s in his 60s (Grecian Formula is his friend), Romney makes McCain look like an extra from “Dawn of the Dead.”
There’s a story on the web I read this morning about how McSame showed up for a campaign appearance last night in New Hampshire and there were two people who showed up: a reporter from the (right-wing) Manchester Union-Leader newspaper… and his photographer.
Meanwhile, our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq are giving Obama standing ovations and heads of state around the world are welcoming him as if he were already President.
The CONs will have to come up with some pretty incredible lies to prevent Obama’s election. I’m sure you’ll try to come up with them.
Who cares?
News coverage? What is that?
http://media.newsbusters.org/stories/andrea-obama-trip-what-some-would-call-fake-interviews.html?q=blogs/mark-finkelstein/2008/07/21/andrea-obama-trip-what-some-would-call-fake-interviews
Plus this barrel of surprise; a truly shocking(!) development:
The belief that reporters are trying to help Barack Obama win the fall campaign has grown by five percentage points over the past month. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey found that 49% of voters believe most reporters will try to help Obama with their coverage, up from 44% a month ago.
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/belief_growing_that_reporters_are_trying_to_help_obama_win
No sh**.
So – I say again. What “news coverage?”
Leave Wichita’s baseball team out of this!
Lets all hope Sidney picks Mittens as running mate.
Ya mean Bobby “I’m an Exorcist” Jindal?
Mebbe he’s McCain’s answer to healthcare. “The power of Christ compels you, the power of Christ compels you” instead of expensive antibiotics.

Oh, I’m LMAO at this! Sucks to be you guys, doesn’t it?
The power of the MSM. We saw it in 2000 & 2004. Now it’s gonna backfire on ya. Sweet justice!
“We saw it in 2000 & 2004.”
You must be living in an alternate history from the rest of the real world. The MSM is always in the tank for the democrat.
What else is new>
“The MSM is always in the tank for the democrat.”
BS. The MSM repeated every lie about Gore (internet – Love Canal – Love Story) and Kerry (Swiftboaters) in 2000 and 2004, while giving Bush a pass (cocaine – DUI’s – TANG) the whole time.
The pendulum has swung.
I believe the name, Bobby Jindal, is about to be introduced to the World in blazing headlines as John McCain’s selection to be his vice-presidential running mate. Earlier today, I thought this would be a ludicrous pick by John McCain but now have done a complete turn around.
Thanks to WE Blogger, Lindainks55’s exhaustive biographical summary above and a little research myself AND SOME REFLECTIVE THINKING … I think Bobby Jindal will be the choice and a good one. As a moderate Republican, I support this decision.
Of course, I hope at some point in his life, Jindal didn’t run a prostitution ring or stolen car operation. But it appears he has been on the up and up all his life and a strong political producer.
His resume of education and political accomplishments certainly eclipses by far Barack Obama’s sub-professional work as a community organizer in west Chicago and sweetheart time as a first term U.S. Senator from Illinois.
So let’s get this show on the road … quickly.
Thanks Linda for the great research piece. McCain looks on target for a winning ticket with either pick. Knew Mitt didn’t know Jindal. Now I would be comfortable with either choice.
“McCain looks on target for a winning ticket with either pick.”
McCain could pick Jesus Himself as a VP candidate and he would still lose in November.
The time has passed for the conservatives.
But thanks for playing the game.
Not really, but it sounded good.
The time has passed for the conservatives.

Lesser Democrat, NOT a Conservative.
Oh please, please, please pick Jindal, the jokes would be never ending. This guy’s idea of a health care plan would involve exorcisms. The nutter believes in creationism proving that he slept through his entire college education. He only got into office as a result of a protest vote, he can only hurt McCain by scaring off level headed Christians like Kline has done in Kansas.
I would have a very hard time voting for John McCain but still do feel some sorrow for him.
There is a old saying about someone could not even be arrested. McCain went to Manchester NH and was greeted by… ONE reporter!
As for his VP pick, Romney is as likeable as Rudy and seems as sincere tp me. Plastic and more an actor answering a Hollywood casting call for a TV President than a real one.
I was very excited when I read the field of potential running mates had been narrowed down to either Romney or Jindal. Both are excellent choices!

BS yourself. Bush never denied having a drinking problem when younger, and the cocaine story has no evidence behind it. The Air National Guard stint was what many did in that day; Rather’s rather sloppy forgery killed whatever legs that story had. And cost Rather his career – good riddance.
The MSM is what it is – generally tilting liberal, and democratic. I can live with it. I just don’t lie to myself about it.
“The Air National Guard stint was what many did in that day;”
IF they had a daddy with the right connections.

Maggot doesn’t it just frost you that someone could draw a different conclusion than you do on evolution or creationism? To each his own I say.
Gee, I don’t know: should McCain really pick a muslim as his running mate? /sarcasm off
Other things aside, putting this guy a heartbeat away from the presidency when you’re the second-oldest candidate in history would kinda torpedo all that talk about Obama’s inexperience on the national stage.

There is no “different conclusion” on “evolution or creationism”. Sceince is science, creationism is religion.
Read the “Establishment Clause” in the Constitution.
Kitzmiller v. Dover established that whatever you call it, it’s still creationism, hence religion.
Get over it.

Damn right. If you’d been in those shoes, and had the connections, so would you.
One thing that has always troubled me about what our politics has become, with the 24 hour constant news cycle and the need to drive ratings on it, is the constant need for scandal to drive ratings. It’s the modern version of “if it bleeds, it leads.” There was a time that a man’s (or woman’s) past was accepted as OK (barring a major crime or some such, of course). You didn’t need to be a saint to get into politics.
Frankly, I don’t want saints. I want people who have, at times, gotten their hands dirty, done things, and from time to time, made mistakes.
That’s why, I think, Bush’s drinking past didn’t hurt him. We’ve all done things when young that when we got older seem incredibly dumb. What matters is not whether we do them, but whether we learn from them.
The young think that gov’t can fix stuff. The old, who’ve seen all this before, understand that gov’t generally F***’s stuff up; in many cases, the best thing that gov’t can do is nothing. It’s why “I’m from the gov’t, and I’m here to help” is one of the scariest phrases in the language.
That’s what troubles me about Obama. He’s wet behind the ears, a suit without a resume, a pretty voice with very little substance. Judgement comes from experience, and he has little. Just who is the prop-up man behind his meteoric rise? Coming out of the cesspool that is the Chicago Democratic/Daley machine, I shudder to think. I suspect the Tony Rezkos of the world is the least of our worries.
WHats surprising is that McCain didn’t pick a french man —– or one of his
EADS lobbyists friends ,……………
“You must be living in an alternate history from the rest of the real world. The MSM is always in the tank for the democrat.”
This from someone who uncritically links to Bozo Bozelle’s website.
Point of reality, counselor. To the likes of Brent Bozelle, any media source that does not automatically take the viewpoint of coalition conservatives is by definition biased against them (because they are right).
“Maggot doesn’t it just frost you that someone could draw a different conclusion than you do on evolution or creationism? To each his own I say.”
There’s scientific conclusion based upon the evidence which proves the fact of evolution. Then there is assumption based upon wishful thinking and scientific ignorance, and that is creationism.
Being that this is farm country the knowledge of evolution is instrumental in explaining why farmers need different varieties of insecticide. Having a scientific ignoramus like Jindal in office can only bring harm to society.
Wait, let me get this straight. The MSM spends 20+ years building McCain into the Straight Talk Express, and because McCain can’t get a reporter to show up in New Hampshire for a week suddenly the MSM is biased?!?
How many times has McCain been on Meet the Press? I bet McCain’s been on MtP at least 10 times more than Obama. Who turned McCain into the “maverick” Republic if not the MSM? Thanks to the MSM over the past 20 years, I doubt there’s a sentient American voter today who doesn’t know he’s famous for being a “maverick.”
Hell, the only reason the Republics nominated McCain is because he has through at least 20 years of constant exposure in the MSM accumulated rock solid credentials as a guy who will buck the party line (ie, compromise anything).
The MSM made McCain into the only damn Republic who stands a snowball’s chance of winning in November!
And now, all of a sudden, based on a couple weeks’ worth of stories, the MSM is biased against McCain?!?
The GOP ca2008: as kfg might say, it’s now a party that insists you believe 10 lines of BS before breakfast.
What a bunch of whiners!
I honestly and truly think the media — ALL of them — need to keep the cameras and microphones on McCain every minute of every day. If he isn’t inside his own home a camera should be on him and a microphone at his mouth so nothing is missed. I think it’s quite unfair that he is given a pass!
I would have liked to hear what he had to say after ONE person showed up at his town hall meeting. Another opportunity missed!
“GMC70″ –
(The Big) Dick Cheney has all sorts of experience. Where’s that got us?
You claim, “Judgement comes from experience…”, but you know better. Judgment comes from wisdom and intelligence and vision.
McC*nt’s “judgment” is based on his ability to get shot out of the sky and live to tell about it. McBush’s “judgment” includes “highly principled” opinions on every side of every issue that’s come up. McSame is another kid who, by an accident of birth, found himself accepted to and just barely eking out a diploma from an elite institution of higher education. John Sidney McCain the Third (for Shrub’s 3rd term) thinks Iraq borders Afghanistan, doesn’t know the difference between Sunnis and Shi’ites, and admits he doesn’t know squat about the economy (except from the advice he gets from his principal economic adviser who thinks $4-a-gallon gasoline is a figment of our imaginations).
McC*nt cites his crazy-cat-lady 98-year-old mother as proof he’s not gonna die soon. But when his father was his age, John Sidney McCain Jr. had been dead for three years.
“Judgement comes from experience…”
Funny that McCain is saying that. He’s been in office 30 years, and Obama, in just a few years has taken control of OPEC and the oil companies in order to dictate prices. Well, that’s what McCain claims he has done. If Obama can dominate the largest traded commodity in the world and McCain couldn’t do anything in 30 years then we’ll have to vote for Obama’s competence and effectiveness.
GMC70,
A couple of friends (also female) and I were discussing the fall of politics and other interesting topics last night. (That three-way phone conversation option is great!) One is in southern IL, one in Waco, TX, and me in Red State Kansas. At the same time, we all said that what sells is SENSATIONALISM. We’ve become a nation of sound bytes, much like the tabloids use. Nobody reads the articles, just the headlines. I admit that I’ll continue on to read an article if the headline grabs me, although not necessarily a sensationalized story, just one that piques my interest. It’s the same as grabbing a book reader with the first sentence or paragraph.
That’s why, I think, Bush’s drinking past didn’t hurt him.
It’s not his drinking past, but how he handles his drinking or non-drinking present. Anyone with half a brain has to notice the difference between the George W. who ran for governor of Texas and the George W. living in the WH today. If not, please check out this link. It’s so obvious, it’s sad.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pw4Bhmm22xo&feature=related
As for Dan Rather’s “forgery”, the WH never denied the accuracy of the content, only the FONT that was used. Get real.
Oh please PLEASE let it be Mittens Romney!
Then I get to talk about how his church goes out of its way to baptize dead people into it AGAINST their long dead wishes.
I thought that George WMD Bush was already McCain’s running mate – seems to me that they are joined at the hip.
Bluejay and I agree! Blind sow, stopped clock etc…

Dan Rather’s BS was PROVEN wrong.
Just because you want it to be true, does not make it true.
By the way, Rather recently called Obama “Osama” — it was pretty funny.
George W. Bush volunteered for duty in Vietnam. The model of airplane W. flew was considered obsolete, for Vietnam duty, at that time, and the government did not want to spend the money to retrain him in another aircraft.
Jindal might well PERSONALLY accept the theory of evolution.
As a Catholic, Jindal is free to believe in BOTH Creationism and Evolution, at the same time.
They are NOT mutually exclusive.
What Jindal has done is promote academic freedom, making clear that his state will not censor politically incorrect questions and theories.
Heheheheh. We’ll know a lot more when the trial regarding Rather’s civil suit is over.
What is done in the darkness will eventually come to light. Sadly, it wont happen until the damage done by bushco and their merry band of enablers is complete.
“George W. Bush volunteered for duty in Vietnam.”
Wrong. Republican lie. No matter how many times you repeat it, it is still a lie.
Bush specifically noted on his TANG application that he wanted stateside assignments only.
Even tho he is new to politics, he seems to be fitting “right” in!

Jindal receives $2,500 fine in ethics case
The state Board of Ethics approved a $2,500 fine Thursday to settle a finance reporting violation by Gov. Bobby Jindal’s 2007 gubernatorial campaign.
The agreement means that the governor will not be called to a July 10 public hearing on the charges and the board needs no further action on the matter.

“George W. Bush volunteered for duty in Vietnam.”
No way Paul. He could have done that at any US Army recruiting station in the country and been in Nam in months. The whole purpose of the well-connected going into the NG back then was to AVOID Nam. That is why those of us without connections could NOT get in.
I want to see Bobby Jindall talk about his belief in exorcism on “Meet the Press.”
Paul is correct that Catholics can believe in evolution without any problem – at least many Catholics.
Remember – the guy who wrote the creation story was not there. And, according to at least one analysis of the writings in the Torah the time period was billions of years.
When did Jindal become a member of the Catholic clergy in order to perform an exorcism? Will the Church excommunicate him for heresy?
Linda when the major donation bundlers (hundred of thousands)for both Obama and Clinton are now in jail on felony charges I find it hard to believe you would even mention a simple thing like failure to report mail expense from the national party.
Rezko, Shu and you say this is fitting ‘right’ in. It looks more like ‘left’ in. Typical near sightedness by the libs.
boring, average and fine
