In Congress, sex scandals trump corruption

stevensted2.jpgSen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., and others in Congress are uncomfortable enough with the seven felony counts against Sen. Ted Stevens (in photo), R-Alaska, to return political contributions they got from Stevens. But columnist Margaret Carlson notes how differently Congress reacted to Stevens’ scandal and that of Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho: “A full ranking of congressional sins would put gay sex at the top (Craig and former Florida Rep. Mark Foley, both quickly abandoned); heterosexual sex next (bad but not fatal, with Republican Sen. David Vitter of Louisiana surviving his extensive dealings with the ‘D.C. Madam’); and way, way down, corruption. You can practically be caught with a bag of cash, as Rep. William Jefferson was (in his freezer) and continue serving.”

Remember, if Republicans do it then it’s okay. Prostitutes, BJs in pubic restrooms, child sex slaves, it’s all okay if you have the letter R after your name.

Actually, the main difference between Democrats and Republicans is that according to Republicans, Sex is sin, Money is not. According to Democrats, Money is sin, and Sex is not.

Pmom you are smarter than Maggot. You can’t believe that corruption and vileness stays behind party lines. Please tell me you don’t think like Bluejay.

Actually, sex is quite accepted in the halls of Congress. They’ve been f*cking us for years. . .

    JM,
No, most true Independents are fairly lonely people, being few and far between, and although intelligent, they’re seldom well-connected enough to get rich.

    Rage,
That’s not sex, that’s abuse of power, which is quite respectable to Republicans.

What about John Edwards, Elliott Spitzer, and Paul Morrison? Let’s add these names to the list.
Women don’t seem to get caught up in this stuff.

Affairs aren’t the same. Have you seen the numbers on how many people actually cheat in America? And yet, we expect puritanicalness from our elected leaders? How about we stop being such hypocrites.

No I know corruption goes both ways outie. However I’m not a hypocrite about it.

And I don’t defend it when it is really bad stuff. If its personal, unless it is HURTING someone else, then so what.

I think that Repubs and Democrats probably have the same number of affairs and the same number of vices.

The differences is that Republicans push their morals on the country, preaching the wrongness and sin of those affairs and vices. Then they turn around and do those things they rail against as often as the Democrats who do not preach against them (as much)

The hypocracy of the Republican party is what turns me off to them the most.

The important development today was that Miers and bolton both defyied congress when they refused to testify according to a ruling of the judge appointed by none other than poppa bush.
Dems. here missed out on another ‘I Told You So!’
