President Bush is right about attending the opening ceremony at the Olympics in Beijing next month: “I happen to believe that not going to the opening ceremony for the games would be an affront to the Chinese people, which may make it more difficult to be able to speak frankly with the Chinese leadership.” Refusing to attend likely would have no impact on China’s bad behavior in Tibet or otherwise, as it suggested a lack of support for U.S. athletes. But Bush should use every opportunity on his trip to make China squirm about its human rights record.

The Olympics are supposed to be apolitical right?
(cough, spew, hack)
Bush could make any country squirm about their human rights record? You just may have that exactly backwards, Rhonda.
Has anyone heard about this?
Wait on tanker
It would be wise to postpone the discussion of Boeing’s bid on the Air Force tanker until a judgment has been reached on whether to reinstate the lawsuit against its subsidiary Jeppesen Dataplan. That company is alleged to have provided flight and logistical support to the CIA for transporting terror suspects to countries where our government knew they would be tortured.

It is wrong to go to the Chinese Olympics PERIOD. We should withdraw completely.
He’s right, refusing to attend the opening ceremony sends the most hypocritical message yet. Staying home would be much more effective.
Bush has never been right about anything.
… hmm let’s see the Chinese premier / president has attended how many Olympics in the US? How many heads of state attend? Putin?
Wasting time and money —- my money
“Bush should use every opportunity on his trip to make China squirm about its human rights record.”
Yeah.
Like that’s gonna happen.
Shrub’s gonna sit in a VIP box and lecture the Chinks about human rights.
More likely he’s gonna knock back some bourbon and branch waters and say something like, “Take a look at our gymnasts! Tiny girls! Hardly any tits! (heh-heh-heh)”
And the low-level Chinese official in his suite will say something like, “Heh-heh. We’re Chinese! Even our weight-lifters have tiny tits!”
And an international disaster will ensue.
Shrub’s still got six months to fuc# up the world. He’s up to the challenge.
Bush was right, that Iraq was importing yellow cake uranium:

Bush was right, to take the war to Iraq, as that gave us a chance to kill Al-Queda in Iraq, rather than wait for the terrorists to come to America.

By the way, lefties, China is the fastest growing country in the world. China, more than any other country, is responsible for the huge increase in demand for gasoline and other fuels. China is heavily involved in joint ventures, to develop energy, with many of our enemies around the world, including Cuba.
Amazing that the lefties see China as an enemy on some issues, and not our enemy, on other issues! The truth is, China was rather helpful with North Korea. Yes, China is Communist, but China understands that North Korea is run by a nut-case.
It would be wise for Bush to use the Olympics to highlight the economic growth of China. Actually, economic advances will FORCE political changes in China.
But, as China and India REFUSE to buy into the “Global Warming” religion, a TRUE protest against China, and the Middle East would be:
Drill HERE, Drill NOW!!!
And, it is time to understand that China’s refusal to buy into the Global Warming hype will actually keep fuel prices lower, for all of us, in the long run. This will happen due to China’s huge investments in energy development and energy exploration.
Every drop of oil produced, world wide, helps keep world wide prices down.
China should not be forced to starve its population in order to please leftist greens, in America. In the short run, China’s energy demands will force prices up. In the long run, China is determined to discover oil to meet its own needs.
America should learn from the example of China, where energy exploration is concerned.
China should learn from America, were “clean coal” technology and modern oil drilling techniques are concerned.

“Bush was right, that Iraq was importing yellow cake uranium.

econ101 seems to be trying to win the BDP award.
Iraq imported it PRIOR to 1991.
The IAEA had sealed it in 1991. And looters dumped it out in 2003.

“The only people who need to “worry” about that yellow cake are the looters at Tuwaitha after the 2003 U.S. invasion, who dumped it out of the barrels.
And probably the people who bought those barrels for $2 each, to hold drinking water, or to wash clothes.
And their families, and offspring. . .”
You know Franklin, bringing that kind of MISinformation to the board when we’ve already had the discussion and everyone else totally understands the truth (guess you were too busy for news!) is going to cost you credibility. Enough of that MISinformation and you’ll be held in as low regard as bush. bush has already lost credibility, respect and many of us (around 77% of Americans!) are suspect when he opens his mouth as we know he has an ulterior motive. Not such a great example to emulate!
Linda
Saddam violated the “no fly zone” by shooting at American helicopters and aircraft.
Saddam violated the terms of the cease fire, by continuing to support terrorists in Israel.
What was to keep Saddam from taking control of this uranium, from the toothless United Nations, any time he wanted to?
Do you remember the “oil for food” program that the United Nations ran, in Iraq? That corrupt “oil for food” program did not do what it was designed to do, and it was run by: The UNITED NATIONS!
Just like the IAEA!
Yes, I know, they CLAIM to be “independent” but they have NO army, no enforcement powers outside of the United Nations, and they REPORT to the General Secretary of the UN!

By the way Linda — speaking of “credibility” —
Arent you supposed to be “scrolling over” right now?????
Linda
You never voted for Bush in the first place.
So, what you think does not really count much!
You are a partisan Democrat, and you would vote for Obama even if Obama was caught on tape taking a bribe from a terrorist. For the record, I doubt that Obama would accept such a bribe. Now, a dirty deal from Rezco or the dirty Chicago political machine? We shall see. Still, you will vote for Obama no matter what. Therefore, YOU have no credibility. Scroll Linda, SCROLL!! LOL)
The public at large is not nearly as liberal as you are.
econ101,
Thank you for proving (again) that you have no credibilty, with your very inaccurate yellow cake post.
Here’s an article showcasing China’s wonderful stewardship of the environment.

Is anyone else convinced the Paul’s eyes have to be brown? He is full of sh*t what other color could they be?
Apologies to you rational people with brown eyes.
Bush will poodle dance for the Chinese…what’s new?
George W. Bush will go to the opening event for the Olympics and will sit and schmooze with China for all the world to see. But yet he will still hold on to the misleading fable of the US had to take Saddam Hussein out because of his being such a ruthless dictator. And, pray tell, is China being run by a nice dictator? What about the ruthlessness of the Chinese against their own people?
I think the real reason Bush has to attend the Olympics event is because the US is in debt to China up past our eyeballs and we no longer have the high road when it comes to China.
The Olympics?
bush is, as ever, WRONG.
The US should boycott the Olympics.
I know I will. What’s to watch? The US doesn’t send amateur athletes anymore anyway.
I am not surprised to find Paul F Rosell in the pro Chinese camp.
THAT country makes use of slave labor to make junk that they sell here, undercutting American wages and stealing American jobs.
A perfect fit for a union sell out like paulie who has here advocated that some jobs just are not worth a minimum wage.
Really paulie, you are the lowest form of life it has been my misfortune to encounter.
Blue Jay,
“Really paulie, you are the lowest form of life it has been my misfortune to encounter.”
HA HA HA HA! Good one.
Hold on, STOP THE PRESSES! Someone wrote that Bush is “right” about something?!
Who held a gun to the writer’s head?
On another note…
Thank you President Bush for the SCOTUS nominees that are now on the in place.
