A word to parents thinking about taking younger kids to see the latest “Batman” blockbuster, “The Dark Knight”: Don’t.
This isn’t campy comic book fare. It’s the most serious, scary and adult big-screen treatment yet of superhero material. Heath Ledger’s Joker is a sick, twisted, sadistic killer who makes Jack Nicholson’s Joker look like Ronald McDonald.
As this blog points out, many reviewers are urging caution: The movie is “potentially terrifying for children,” writes Jeffrey Weiss of the Dallas Morning News. “The PG-13 rating should offer some warning, yes. But this film dances just south of an R in my book.”
My 14-year-old son and I really liked the movie. But it’s pretty dark stuff.

Haven’t seen it, don’t plan to see it.
Am I missing anything?
Probably not.
But it’s pretty dark stuff.
All the Batman movies are dark, both in storyline and setting. I’ve never been a fan because of that reason. I don’t like watching movies where I can’t see what’s happening without a flashlight. A far cry from the old campy TV series.
It does make one wonder if Heath Ledger’s sleeping and drug problems weren’t exacerbated because of the role he had played. Method actors often have to be watchful. Of course his death has elevated the movie in the eyes of his fans, much the same as Brandon Lee’s death did with The Crow.
I won’t be seeing or buying the movie. I’d rather spend my money on the first season of Mork and Mindy. :)
You know, if the Dark Knight contains as many anti-god metaphors as Batman Returns did then I may give it a look.

nanu nanu…
Heath Ledger’s Joker is a sick, twisted, sadistic killer…
I believe the kid’s are quite used to it now, we have Bushco.
There are some graphic parts in this movie — but is great cinema. Definitely almost an R rating — don’t think kids under 13 should go see it.
But if you’re over 13 … it’s a must see. Incredible. Ledger is frightening. Bale is a great leading man. Oh, and your supporting cast isn’t bad, either; Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhall, Aaron Eckhart, Gary Oldman … and Eric Roberts!

Yes, exposing our teenagers to more sick, twisted, sadistic violence is just what they need.
And we wonder why our kids are becoming so anti-social.
Hi fellows! Did you think it’s true 2
